One of the greatest and smoothest saxophone players ever. I remember buying this album on cassette in 1985 because CD’s had not came out yet. It is regretful that he passed away at the young age of 42
Yes, George was one of soprano sax greats, If i had not heard of George Howard, I myself would not have picked up the soprano sax. Thanks George for your sound, and God bless George Family
The ultimate saxophone greats George Howard, Najee, Ronnie Laws and cannot forget Kenny G (his old stuff) . Nostalgic, my friends....brings back good memories. Thank U George for being a part of it.....God Bless and miss U much, bro.
Man do I miss him. That smooth, sultry sax took me through some tough times. Helped me make it through. I loved his recorded version of this song. I love you George. I miss you so much. Your greatest fan.
Great player, unique sound, unique style, warm vibe..... Followed his career from the very first album, and still miss not having more new ones from him.....
George Howard could play the hell out of his horns...but has anyone heard him sing?..Cross your mind is the best jazz song to date....sexy smooth and timeless you were and always my favorite jazz artist George Howard...wish you were still with us....
He could sing also. He did vocals on 'Let's Live In Harmony', 'No No, and 'If You Were Mine'. Also if we were still blessed by his physical presence 🙌🏿he would've also been a good actor/ comedian. Gone wayyy too soon😥💔💔💔
Didnt really check this out but just how it started best ever miss him nice band wow the sound who he picked to play with him the change ups in the song most redones are not not as good but a horn thats smart
BEAUTIFUL, FUNKY, GROOVY JA'AAM in a George Howardian fashion. Perhaps the first new '80s soprano saxophone specialist, George Howard roughs up the soprano saxophone in like manner as does Herbie Mann on Flute. These two artists, along with Rahsaan Roland Kirk before them, have concerned themselves first and foremost with creativity and innovation. They have personalized and individualized their sound voices on their respective instruments with a uniqueness which defies standard orthodoxy. George's take on Sade's standards is as surrealistic as it is phenomenal. His treatment of Hugh Masakela's "Grazing In The Grass" is meritorious of an Oscar Award; and so also are many of his sopranophonic oeuvres. Grusin & Rosenberg Productions (GRP) has been honored to produced George Howard into becoming a well-known and -appreciated household favorite. But it has been prophesied, manifested and exemplied time and time again that "(They) whom the gods love die young." Thus, so it has been with George Howard. Death has stilled his actual voice, but not before he has bequeathed to us an everlasting library of literary effervescence in songs that have afforded us lots of joy, laughter and happiness. GH:39Anno Domini; RIP!
@cocobass yes i remember when the world was happier in the 80`s and things seemed so slick but now is just so plain and grey in comparison .... yes, what happened ???????/
@StevenCharlesJazz Steven, I wish I could tell you what time of the year is was. If I had to guess the concert was in the fall and the broadcast shortly after.
@cocobass Man, I sure don't know, a lot of things, actually, none of them good for music. But these days, people will pay more money, to go "see" a DJ play music real musicians recorded, than to see real musicians play live! SMH... Hey adburger, when in '85 was this concert? Sam, the bass player on this, worked with me in Atlanta, a lot during '85, so I was curious what time of year this was, I'm figuring Fall or Winter, do you know?
Missing George Howard in 2023...RIP

George Howard and Branford Marsalis: They redefined the soprano sax sound in jazz. Slinky, sexy, and total technical mastery.

I like this, don't get me wrong, but without Sade's sumptuous voice, it's just lacking something. Still, this is a nice song.

Would that be Myungo Jackson on percussion?
