For all other lazy cooks out there: Pressing the tofu isn't necessary. I did it at first when I started as a vegan but I don't bother anymore. It might take a bit longer to fry but if you use good quality firm tofu, you don't need to press it: just drain off excess liquid by squeezing with your hands. That being said, many say the texture is better when pressed so you do you :).
Also, when freezed and thawed, all the water comes out from tofu super easily just by squeezing in hands. And it's a great option if you want to buy more tofu on offer and keep it in the freezer.
I've been vegetarian over a decade now. I started with pressing it too, now I just cut it and cook it and it's pretty much the exact same thing so I 100% stand by this for people who are in a pinch or a lazy cook like me
Well done! Great attention to detail and I enjoyed your voice over and different camera angles. I purchased your cookbook and have tabbed 99% of your delicious recipes. Excited to try them all! 💚
Your ‘Make It Vegan’ cookbook has changed my life!!! Absolutely love it, cooking vegan is no longer daunting or complicated. Best cookbook I own. Thank you so much x
I made the tofu stir fry tonight and it was so good! I added shredded carrot and diced zucchini just to bump up the veg, and we loved it. I ended up ordering a tofu press online after dinner aswell. Thanks for the recipe Maddy 😊
I love the production in this video. What a fun way to shake it up. 😄 I got your cookbook in pre-order and so far everything I've tried, I've loved. I appreciate how accessible and realistic the recipes are. Despite loving cooking, I don't always have the time and energy (and products) to spend an hour or more on elaborate meals. I actually cook out of your cookbook even when I'm in rush and that's so nice.
I didn’t have bread, but did have a pizza crust and just happened to have the topping ingredients for your pizza toasty. So I made the pizza version of your recipe and it was so yummy! Great ideas! Thank you! ❤️
I've never really been a fan of tofu, however after being a vegetarian for 39 years, from I was 11, I've decided to go vegan and I know tofu is a good staple. I've been watching vegan cookery videos for not just meal ideas but also to increase the various spices & condiments that are regularly used in vegan cookery. I think the tofu nuggets look delicious and I hope they taste as good as they look.
I didn't initially come to this channel for the food. Mostly for the renovations, but omg this is one of my favourite videos. Not sure I will ever go fully vegan but have recently substituted mushrooms for meat and also been shopping at local farmers markets. The toastie is amazing and great tip with adding the water made such a difference. Will need to try the fried tofu nuggets next. ❤
Next lvl! I love these beginner videos! So easy, approachable and a great way to incorporate more meatless meals in the weekly menu even if you aren't vegan! I love a nice veg refresh
I made the pancakes from your cookbook this morning and they are hands down the BEST vegan pancakes (and just pancakes in general tbh) I have tasted! Super fluffy and flavourful. This will definitely become a brunch classic🥞
My cookbook delivery keeps getting pushed back (US based) and seeing all these recipes is killingggg me 😭 I can’t wait for my cookbook to finally arrive! 🥰
I just got your cookbook. Can't wait to make every recipe in there! It all looks so delicious and very interesting read in the beginning. So happy for you. And the billboard!! That was awesome!!❤❤❤❤❤
Loving that you’re cooking from your new cookbook! I’ve done the stir fry noodles before and it’s one of my go to meals. I’m looking forward to trying the pizza sandwich.
Oh my gosh! Those recipes look freaking delicious! I can't wait to get your cookbook. In the US and am on the waiting list! Congratulations on being on the Amazon Billboard in NYC, that's Awesome!🥰
Hello from Canada! ❤🇨🇦 I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your channel. I'm also "mostly" plant based and live in a cabin in the woods in northern Ontario. Most of your recipes I'm already fairly familiar with, either way, I wanted to purchase your book just to be supportive. When I went to Amazon to purchase your book, it was $53 Canadian. 😳 That's absolutely Ludacris!!! Especially when your queen (soon to be king) is printed in our bills! Lol 😂 All kidding aside, I'm sorry, but I'll have to wait until I'm able to buy your book used. Thanks again for great content, and Happy New Year! Tiina 😊❤️🎉
All of this looks so delicious! Comfort food for sure 🥰I'll try the noodle recipe because I absolutely love noodles and I can't live without them hahah
Exceptional ASMR in this one 😉 I’m not a vegan, but my Catholic upbringing of no meat on Friday’s has stuck with me my entire adult life and a few times a year I also like to do a full week of meatless meals. I think it’s just good to go without anything you regularly have in your life for a time … hmm now that I think of it, that’s also probably due to my Catholic upbringing (lent and what not) hahah. You just appreciate things more when it’s been absent for a time. I also just love good food, love to cook, and I’m always looking for recipes I can easily slip into my rotation that are different and refreshing to our palette. These all look SCRUMPTIOUS. I’m literally sat here drooling and I’ve just eaten so it’s not because I’m hungry even. How have I been alive this long and never heard of a tofu press????!! I enjoy tofu by my other half decidedly does not …. That breaded recipe is absolutely coming to my kitchen and soon! He wont’ be able to resist it 😃 It will be the gateway tofu 😂 Congratulations on the early success of the book, Maddie. You’ve worked so hard on it and it’s obvious your heart and soul imbues every page. I grinned ear to ear when you shared that the advert had been up in the bright lights of Times Square. I’m so happy for you and your whole team. It’s such a joy to be able to witness someone’s success. It’s like a contact high of good feeling hormones 😂 ❤

I'm incredible sad Amazon pushed back the delivery date for my preordered book to end of January :( But I love to see how much you love the recipes, love your happy dances and how much you shine during this video.
Freezing then thawing tofu is the best way to get the texture and to make it super easy to press oit water. I just use my hands and the Freezing changes texture so it doesn't fall apart. Also I only use the air fryer to cook tofu now 1 or 2 minutes on 400 Fahrenheit is perfect
Hi Madeleine! I'm French and I follow your channel for some years. Thank you very much for your work, your videos, recipes, routines and tips give me inspiration every day. Congratulations for your book! I have a question about it: will it be publish in French and in France? I hope so very much because, even if I understand English, it's easier in my language to follow a recipe :) Have a nice evening, Mathilde
I know we can have it on Amazon (we, because i’m in France too). Did you check there? And for the translation i doubt, but we’ll never know. Maybe a pdf version later 😉 like that we can translate automatically. Bye 👋🏻
All of these look amazing! Your book isn’t out here in Canada yet, but every time I see you make something from it, I want it more and more…and we are no longer vegan (but still love vegan food and appreciate the benefits and reasons)
*Slowly* transitioning to a more vegetarian/vegan diet after learning more and more about the food out there. This is a great video and it’s so overwhelming at first when it comes to starting. Went to a vegan restaurant for the first time today and it changed my perspective finally trying it out first-hand. You made these look so easy that I want to take a trip to the grocery store. Quick question: can I air fry the firecracker tofu nuggets? I’m trying not to use oil a lot and I prefer air frying.
Congrats for your book, great sounds 🤤 and looks… that sandwich or panini (in France) with a bowl of soup … miam. I just want to have time to do my bread (it’s been hard lately). And Alex is not trolling this time 🤭🤣
Hi made Alex’s bread today and the berry crumble cereal bars! I loved the chia jam with mixed berries gorgeous , would never think of using chia! Please how do you keep the bread fresh? X
I’m not speaking for Alex and Maddie, but I have been making my own breads for years. The best way I personally have found is to, first off, not have more than you can eat in a few days out at one time. If you don’t eat as much as you’ve baked in about that time, portion it and put the other portion in the freezer. Get a bread box. It helps to keep the moisture in the bread. Also, for some of my breads, depending on the moisture content of them, I use linen cloths (they also sell linen bread bags) and loosely wrap the loaf in those. Just be sure to clean out the crumbs in the box as they will mold fairly rapidly.
I agree with all of what is said in the precedent post. I slice it directly and use cooking paper to put the slides separated in a frozen bag and shove it in the freezer. (Not ideal the cooking paper but i didn’t find anything better and it’s possible to re-use it). Like that i can take the amount i need for the day, the night before in the bread box it goes. The next morning it will be unfrozen and ready to be eaten.
Is alex vegan? Or just at home? Also i have a soya allergy. How the heck do i get protein in? We tried going veggie before but i felt like everything was so processed and we were eating more oils and emulsifiers
Yeah Alex is vegan! For maybe 7 or 8 years now! Honestly getting enough protein is a myth. I just try and consciously have beans, tofu, legumes, nuts, seeds etc with every meal and if I am working out have a protein shake and I’m all good! You really don’t need anything processed
i can't tell if you're being sarcastic or you're just deciding to be rude, but, shrimp and scallops are not vegan, which slightly defeats the whole point of the video
