  • This video shows an easy method of preparing Sambar powder. In South Indian cuisine Sambar Powder is used for making sambar as well as other dishes. This can be prepared in large quantities and stored for months.
    Ingredients
    Chilli Powder 2 Cups
    Daniya (coriander Seed) Powder 2 Cups
    Tubar Dal 2 Tbsp
    Channa Dal 2 Tbsp
    Black Pepper 1 Tbsp
    Jeera 1 Tbsp
    Methi Seeds 1 Tbsp
    Haldi powder 2 Tsp

    Mam it is baydgi mirchi(dark color and less spicy) or regular spicy chilly

    Excellent Gita. I just used coriander & red chili powder with Jeera powder . It was awful. You saved me . I live in US ..normally I visit India & take my supply. Now with Covid 19...

    Madam, can you please give the measure of chilli and coriander powder in number of tablespoons
    Or in ounces /mgms rather than cup measure.. it will be more precise

      Usually 1 cup is 250ml, so it's about 16 tbsp.

    Hi geeta madam thank you for this receip i made the Sambhar masala my daughter likedits aroma so much so she asked me to do the samvhar immeciately so i made the sambhar with this masala and drumsticks potato and cooked toor dal by using your sambhar receip she just loved it she first time ate drumsticks on her own enjoyed with steamed rice thank you so much we both loved it we see your videos every day thanks

    In case I want to use while red chillies n corriander seeds...how much should I use? Also tell me for what other recipe I can use sambhar powder

      you can take 1 kg coriander seeds and 3/4 kg red chillies. You can use it for kootu(gravy type sabji) and Vattal Kuzhambu. also for dry roast curries with potatoes

    Mam super. But I make one cup mirchi powder and add 2 to 3 cup Dania powder so that it will not much spicy

    Very nice idea i am in abrod sambar podi is not avalible here .i also made like this .but the last step is nice i will follow that mixing.the yr vidio when you r working yr glass bangles r making clink clink sound very nice i like it .even i also wear glass bangles at home .i buy it from india .tkq

    Do we need to wash the dals and dry them before roasting? Also in case we are using whole chillies and coriander grains, what quantity should we use, please Ma'am. For the powders what is the capacity of the cups.

      You can just wipe all the dals with a cloth .I have given all the measurements in the description box

      One standard measuring cup= 240 ml

      We can add it while making the tadka/seasoning for sambar. It will have a good flavour
