  • What do you do two weeks after buying a brand new Honda CB1000R?
    Take it on the Green Hell of the Nürburgring of course!!
    This wasn’t supposed to be the fastest lap ever it a speed test of the CB1000R. It was more of a chance to experience the Green Hell in it’s entirety. Mostly because I was conscious of not smashing up my new toy! Plus you have to pay for damages, recovery and stoppages if you have an accident! No thanks!! I was also receiving constant cornering commentary from our team Nordschleife expert Matt, on the MT-10 in front. Thanks Matt!
    A lap on the Nordschleife will run you about 30€ and is legally classed as a part of the German Autobahn. So no overtaking on the right allowed!
    This was a great deal of fun and I'll certainly be back to do it all a little bit quicker!
    Many thanks to Patreon Supporters Mike & Matt for making this happen!

    Clearly I missed the bit that said "you couldn't overtake the MT10"
    Looked to me like a waste of your riding skills to me.

    • @AndyManCam

      It wasn't so much about not being able to overtake, but he was giving us turn by turn commentary of the track over the intercom. It was supposed to be in the audio, but the Sena didn't record it. 🤦🏻‍♂️ In any case, I reckon that without him, the lap would have been a lot more erratic as I barrelled too fast into blind corner after blind corner!! Next time we'll put the hammer down for sure.

      Fair shout Andy, other comments on this subject also explain the reasons why I may have thought negative about the lap.

      Hahaha! This was a case of leaving the ego at home so as to avoid certain death! (Or an expensive bill!). I was surprised when the Yaris went past us, but just had to tell myself that he obviously had top flight suspension and a 3 litre V8 shoehorned into it!! 😂

    Excellent video. That rear facing camera gives a very good idea at how fast those 'Ring regulars are bearing down on you to improve their own "lap time". Your channel is rare in so much that you have documented your effort and development from a smaller, less powered machine to your current Honda, also whenever possible showed your "hands on" approach to dealing with mechanical/electrical issues on the way with an upbeat view. You also get massive points and respect for riding the 'Ring on your new bike, but the biggest slap on the back is for not being a Vlogger on a GS with three boxes and 100% road tyres ! Jesus you have no idea how refreshing that is. I hope more people come on board your channel and you have continued success. Lastly I don't know how difficult it would be for you to show in the info section what editing software you use, but it would be much appreciated if you could. Merry Christmas.

      Many, many thanks indeed Frank! I'm very happy that the format is working for you mate. It'll be a long time before you see a GS on here! I use Davinci Resolve for my editing. It's a bit complicated to learn, but it's free and VERY good!

  • @stephenspiteri_zunkus
    @stephenspiteri_zunkus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Pretty daunting having all those fast cars sharing the same track. Nice to see you kept your heads and formation knowing you didn’t know the track, chancing a surprise dip or sharp bend with a local lad in his Porsche behind you. Top job!

    • @mattmutane5502
      @mattmutane5502 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The guy in front knew the track! ;) (but was attempting to keep everybody together! :) )

    • @stephenspiteri_zunkus
      @stephenspiteri_zunkus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matt, that’s a good thing. Safer. That’s always been a debatable thing though, should the more experienced ride up front or at the rear? If he ran the rear he could have watched the back better and instructed the others about oncoming bends and the like and also alerting against traffic; the cons of running the rear is that the guy up front may feel pressured on holding the other guys up and so may ride beyond his skill level. As I said, not quite sure what’s best.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very much so! I think that was the biggest fear mate. So many sudden bends after a dip or a crest, so I imagine it's easy to come unstuck pretty fast. Luckily Matt in front is on several thousand laps and kept us in check! Next time we'll give it some welly!

    • @AndyManCam

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Eric! I was a little apprehensive, has to be said! But it was OK once out there. I think the experience on the german autobahn helps with not cacking one's pants as a porsche screams by at 250km/h!

    I knew when you were replying to all my comments it meant a video was on its' way! I did unfortunately miss the premiere. Really like the sound of your bike especially when it picks up. Sounds like a spaceship. You know the kind, the type of space ship where the hero has to make a daring escape from a bunch of football hooligans so flies to a conveniently dense asteroid belt using his superior flying skill.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha! Am I THAT obvious! 😜 I know exactly what you mean! ALthough it is missing the balls out roar that the FZ1 had, I really like the different, tighter character of the CB's noise. Like a jet turbine, blasting forth into the future... or something.

    Damn, the Green Hell has always been a dream of mine.
    Despite the bloke on the MT-10 not pushing too hard, there were about 2 instances where he opened up the Yam and the acceleration of that beast looked amazing!

  • @andresousaism

    I get it, you were being courteous not overtaking the MT-10 but that guy was afraid to lean his bike - looking at your speed, someone on a CB500 would do it faster than him... Where's Schaaf?

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think that first time out, even the mighty @Schaaf would be equally as cautious! He's seen first hand the consequences of pushing it with too many unknowns. Matt is a qualified Advanced rider and long time veteran of the Ring. He was just trying to ride to the pace of the group he was in, rather than blasting off at his own speed. Very selfless, considering he'd ridden all the way from the UK just to ride the RIng once with us!

    • @andresousaism

      I have no doubt that out of the bends the MT-10 has the edge over the CB. Plus I'd have then careened straight off the track as I overshot the next bend horrifically! It may look like he was slowing us down, but Matt was actually keeping us alive with his extensive knowledge of the track! Sure it would have been nice to barrel out of all of the bends at full chat, but we were trying to keep the group together. After all, it was a 'tourist lap' so more about seeing the track than smashing it! Next time though, now that seal is broken! We'll see how the MT and the CB (and maybe the Tuono) really fare against each other!

    I’m currently shopping for a new bike looking to trade in my gsxr 1000 and get something more comfortable but still sporting. So I’m loving these new naked bikes and all they have to offer because my 36 year old body is not so fond of outright sports bikes as it once was. I love this video the only thing I wish was just you and the MT 10 going all out on the straightaway just to see the difference in the two bikes full throttle when they both can find their stride I do know the MT 10 is a torque monster but I have heard that the CB 1000 or has a ton of top and pull compared to all of the low end torque nakeds like the MT10 and mt09. Really torn between Honda and Yamaha they both make such nice naked bikes but they are so different it’s like comparing apples to oranges. Hard to say one is clearly better than the other. The CB1000-R is drop dead gorgeous and the best looking Japanese bike currently in my eyes especially this new black edition. But that cross plane crank on the MT-10 is intoxicating. I’m going to try my best to be patient and see what 2022 brings possibly a facelift for the MT 10 or maybe some added features like cruise control for the Honda I guess some of these things could make a difference in having to choose one because right now it really is kind of a tossup between you two for me. I adore the build quality of the Honda it’s more like a European bike than the cheap plastic Japanese bikes in its build quality. Then again you have the empty 10 which is basically like an hour one with that shirt unbuttoned in its feet kicked up and a cocktail and it’s hand ready to party. Such different bikes yet both so appealing.

Especially the when you put your bike on the train and picked it up in Vienna. Your parents were just behind watching from behind on a lot of those bike adventures. 👍🏼👍🏼 How was the CB on track compared to the FZ?

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the straights (so up in the higher revs) the two are practically identical. But thanks to the increased low end torque and far smoother fuelling of the CB, threading the power on through the tight twisty bits was a joy. Whereas on the FZ it was often a bit of a jerky, sometimes hit-and-miss affair. Also the CB feels lighter in the low speed stuff, possibly due to better weight distribution. Awesome that a bike can look so much more 'classic' but at the same time cut it better than a far more sporty looking machine. Still, 14 years of development counts for a lot! Overall, despite utterly loving the FZ1, I wouldn't go back to it now.

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a toll road, not a trackday as such

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's as Hippo-Drones says. Not so much a track day. It's classed as a toll motorway and is governed by all the same rules as the public Autobahn. That's why I could have my tankbag on and at one point a couple went by two up on a motorbike!

    A 'Threesome' is rarely a good idea in my limited experience. :-) If it had been just the two of you Matt would have been able to up the pace when he saw you were 'on his tail'. Three is an 'odd number' in more ways than one! (Sorry I'm late, must have missed this one due to the new YT way of notification.) Hat's off to you for replying to all the comments.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      While backpacking, I'd say that 3 is the perfect number, as you always get a majority in every vote! But with biking I perhaps agree that 2 is the magic number! As long as your're closely matched, otherwise one of you is going to be very frustrated! 😜

      It did do pretty well TBH. I had 2 or 3 extra clicks of rear preload, a bit more rear rebound, a touch more front preload, 2 turns more front rebound and 3 turns less front compression. Seems to be doing the trick so far.
