I know first hand how gorgeous these counters are as they are my mothers. To say we love them is a an UNDERSTATEMENT! I also know first hand the emotional and financial toll it was taking on my mom to rehab this home in pieces, and the stress she was under not knowing how she was going to finish the kitchen on her budget after unexpected construction costs on other projects. These counters not only added TREMENDOUS value to the home (per her realtor) but more importantly made my mom so happy and PROUD! Only problem- we love them so much it might be hard to sell this place now!! Guess we need to start getting excited for our next project since I know we will only have SCC counters from here out. Thank you Mitch and the SCC team!!!
Bonnie. Your mom is incredible. That place looks like a high end general contractor was building it from ground up. . she must be very pleased with herself after all done. It came out beautifully in my opinion. And Realtors know it takes granite countertops and stainless steel appliances to sell houses. This is more striking than any I've granite I've ever seen. . For my two cents , I would go with high quality brushed stainless steel switch plates in the kitchen with brown switches .or plugs . All decora style like are used on the gfi receptacles. Might end up on the cover of Better Homes and gardens magazine.
I have some questions/comments below: I heard your comments regarding mdf vs plywood and outside edges and I can see that now, tu. I never thought that mdf was suitable for moist areas. On the kitchen backsplash or countertop you can use a blowdryer to spread the epoxy lightly to get the desired effect. What type of roller NAPare u using for the wet/dry applications? I always thought a smooth sponge was better because it didn't leave roller marks. DO YOU HAVE FRANCHISES AVAILABLE IN RALEIGH, NC???? LOVE YOUR WORK, BEST EVER!!!
I went to look at laminate counter tops to find one i liked and I didnt order it that day. I wanted to give myself time to make sure it was what I wanted. I also did not have the money for a slab of granite or marble. I loved the epoxy counter tops i had seen. These were all done with kits to cover existing counter tops. My kitchen is in a newly gutted and remodeled home so there is no counter top already there. I had dreams of how i wanted my first and only kitchen done entirely by me a single woman. I wanted those beautiful epoxy counter tops. I could not afford to hire someone to give me what I dreamed my kitchen would look like. Tonight I found you. I had already seen other videos by stone coat epoxy. Every single one I have watched I have been amazed and loved your projects. You my friend have given me back my dream. After watching this entire video, i feel confident I can do this. I can make my own counter tops and pour them myself ( with my daughters help.) I have done all my own plumbing . Laid tile. Installed 2 bathrooms. Installed my kitchen cabinetry. So yes I can do this. I just have to do some research or shoot some questions to stone coat so I have answers and more knowledge before I do the job. I think I feel in love with you today. Your video was very knowledgeable. Very informative. Very well done to give your customers confidence to do the job themselves. You guys rock at stone coat. Love Love Llove you all. May God bless you and yours.
This is one video I want to watch and re-watch until my eyes fall out. It's so much like your remodeling my own kitchen and I believe I can do this on my own as a sixty-year-old woman. You have ramped Up Genius to another level
Best comment of the video! Thanks for letting us know how much you enjoyed the video. Let me know if you have any questions before you get that project started!
I’m 62 and I’m confident enough after watching this video. Like you, I will watch it and others until my eyes fall out. We can’t find a soul around here to work. I’m glad I’m artsy enough and a DIYer !..
You and Mike are amazing teachers. Very informative without Being condescending. You teach in a very easy to learn manner easy to understand and make it seem like anyone can do this you instill confidence in every step.
Very personable, kept me engaged. I actually was surprised at how “quick” the time went. One question, the sink cut out, can that be used as a cutting board?
Hey Davel, this is Mitch! Brilliant idea, and that's exactly what I'm doing for the customer. I'll bondo the seam where I laminated the two pieces together then I was going to paint the edge black and do a gold paint pen design and cover the whole thing one more time with clear epoxy! I used to do this for every customer when I installed granite! They loved the stinkin cutting board more than the 100 square foot kitchen I just installed!!! Thanks so much for watching
One of the things that I really appreciate about your videos is that when I'm watching them, I feel like I'm actually learning something that I can eventually do. Too many home improvement or woodworking videos I realize that I'm not learning. The person's skills might be amazing, but in the end, watching them is just killing time. I never feel like I'm just killing time watching your videos.
One of my favorite videos to watch. Demonstrates so many different techniques in one video. I have been intimidated to try this in my kitchen but after watching countless hours of Mitch sharing knowledge and showing how fun and easy it is I am about ready to give it a go as I begin my Kitchen make over.
You sir are a master of your craft. As a journeywoman cabinetmaker and onetime schoolteacher I am deeply appreciative of your technical skill and your ability to completely and concisely explain each step of the process. This is a rare combination of talents, thank you for sharing them in this video. Also hats off to the videographer and editor.
Tilebond III has shorter shelf life. It's has longer open/work time. It's made for areas subject to water prone/moisture exposure areas( sinks surrounds) Titebond II is for cutterboards and outdoor projects. Products that weren't consistently in water.
Track saws are fantastic, especially when working with MDF. You wont use it all the time but when you do have a project you can use it on they are awesome. Theres nothing better than having a lazer straight cut
@@rdmj64 you're correct. The saw is a makita (worm drive). I purchased the cordless version with two 18V. The SCC track saw system is made up of three aluminum guides that are approximately 4 ft. and a plastic base plate for your saw (that you will have to mount). You will need some plywood and screws in addition to the track saw kit. There's an instructional video on the SCC website on how to assemble it.
This is a wonderful comment! How did you like working with the epoxy? How many videos did you watch before feeling ready to try it out? Thanks for letting us know you tried out our product - You Got This!
Tight bond2 isn’t waterproof and tight bond3 is waterproof. I only buy TB3. I will be doing the 2nd side of my sister & brother in law’s duplex. I did the other sides kitchen two years ago and everyone loves it! I live in this side so I have been updating everything. I’ve been making new bottom shelves on all the windows with using StoneCoat Epoxy to give them the look of marble. You guys rock and I’m so grateful that I found you and you give us all the training videos and your just a call away if we have a question! I met your staff about 4 years ago when I drove down to get my order! They are/were amazing and so kind I got my picture with them before I left! I’m your customer for life! Thank you.
My husband and i did our kitchen, we didnt torch well the second layer causing bubbles but its fixableand even that happen i still love the results! Now we are prepping to do our pantry counter.
Thank you so much you actually one of the best teacher I seen online so far, you are very good at telling important tricky points that people fail when they try themselves, you are very best content on educating people about topic, thanks a lot
After watching this before I was going to drop $5,000. on stone counter tops and I am goin to give this a shot I have worked with stuff like this before and I love the out come of it . Thank you for the instruction video
you are just great in the way you teach.... you stick to the subject, dont jump around, and show exactly what is needed in each step. THANK YOU I should have watched it prior to working on my project.....
Thank you ☺️ I appreciate this level of training because it very important to make sure we are creating accurate math, artwork comes natural so having the opportunity to learn more math, I’m grateful 😇
Thanks to you and your brother i can finally finish my kitchen, well basically my whole house. I was told just for my kitchen i was going to pay almost 7K without the island. The island was going to be another 5k. I said nope and your videos showed up like a god send. I am also a DYIerI seriously wanted to cry when i found out how easy (you make it seem, thx for the confidence) and cheaper. Now i can go ahead and get the ctual color i wanted without having to sell my liver or having to get a loan from the bank. Again thank you soooooooooooooo much! Now i can focuse on the flooring and getting the extra ac i need.
I'm a wood guy. Have been since I was a kid. I've been looking at butcher block to replace my horrible tile counter tops, lusting over the exotic butcher block tops which have become a lot more accessible in the last few years and a lot cheaper. They are cheaper, not cheap. On the up-scale side, I've always loved the random natural grain of stone. But it's never been in my price range even though I have a brother who sells and installs real stone counters. Watching these guys... I can do exotic stone counter tops to EXACTLY match the colors my picky wife wants, and even cheaper than butcher block. (Don't question a picky wife...she picked you) This method is so versatile, I can even put a big butcher block insert where I always chop the BOOM (and fries) for my cooking. The more I watch this method, the more I think I can add some CRAZY value and flash to my kitchen. And less work for me!!
Ya know, I was gonna comment on how well your videos are done and so easy to understand, but Tracey Graham beat me to it. I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos and told my wife that she and I can do this and she's all in. Looking forward to creating magic with my wife and viewing more of ya'll's videos. Keep up the GREAT work !!!
Mitch, You are a great teacher. I’ve done out bathroom countertops and our kitchen countertops and backsplash, but continue to learn more techniques from you and Mike. I need more practice with the silicone techniques and the hint to use as little as possible was a great take-away. Thank you!
As a contractor something that is an important consideration is evaluation of the job site itself, having available space to build your pieces and work, especially in less than favorable weather conditions is something that is often overlooked but is vital for optimal and productive outcome, this aspect is greatly affected if the property is occupied or not, Mitch gives a lot of important tips in this video, layout, measuring and cutting are where a majority of mistakes are made so don't rush those steps.
I liked you using the speed square for making sure you cut straight with the skill saw. Each one of these videos I watch gives more confidence. I will be ordering my supplies soon.
Awesome job. There are many epoxy guys out there you guys are still the best. I used your epoxy in the past. I would not use any other brand. Great product and great videos!!!!

This is a great example of different approaches to achieve master results!! ❤️ it!!! You guys know how to teach people in layman’s terms. You made that look so easy and such a beautiful colour pallet of dyes and powders. it looks stunning and its a one of a kind look. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and knowledge. Great, no fantastic job.
Extremely helpful video! You are a great teacher! Very encouraging and very well done. I just did countertops in my new kitchen with your products and it has turned out beautifully. I think I watched this video three times and you answered every question I had! Keep up the great work.
I love watching you guys work. The only thing is that you guys are so good that I realize how little I know, although you do keep it simple and explain the whys behind each of your steps.
Thank you so much for watching! Our goal is to help give everyone the best tips and tricks to create their dream projects. Let us know if you have any questions.
Thickness of the MDF. Assuming 3/4".... I'm sorry if i missed it. LOVE LOVE learning from your videos.... Materials should be here this week! WHOOOOHOOO!
I have watched several of your videos & subscribed to all. Love them, love them, & love them!!! Thank you for being so informative and helpful to all instead of just doing the project and leaving the important details out.
I hardly ever watch a vidio all the way through but, Mitch, you got my attention. I'd purchased a fixer upper but kitchen and bathroom needs lots of work and purchasing granite counter top is not in my budget. However, you videos are so informative to the T that I'm encouraged give it try. I can't wait to order one of your kits to make my dream countertops. Thanks for sharing your wonderful vidios.
I've used a piping bag to fill deeper cracks and nail holes with bondo. It puts the product exactly where I need it, minimizes waste, and amount of sanding needed. I use a needle nose glue bottle, condiment bottle, and syringes.
Hey Mitch great video. About the glue. Stick with Titebond II. Titebond I or Original is good but not waterproof. 2 and 3 are but 3 is supposed to be water resistant and cost a lot more. 2 works great everywhere.
Type 3 is waterproof and recommended for outdoor use. Type 2 is water resistant and can be disassembled with water or steam. I believe type 2 is food safe as well. Not sure about the other two.
Excellent job on the counter tops and the teaching on the how to ! I was surprised you didn't wear safety glasses especially with the grinder 😮 I use 40 grit disks nearly every day and when those little grit pieces fly off and hit you in the face it hurts and if that was eye oh damn ! Love the video and thank you for a great toutourial love your work and we plan on doing our counters soon as well . God bless and take care ...don't forget those glasses folks !
You aint lieing! I should be wearing eye protection!!! I only have vison in one eye too, that'd be a real bad day! Thanks for watching, let me know if you have any questions
Brilliant video I watched from start to finish, amazing enthusiasm Mitch.Always a pleasure to watch you and Mike, and incorporating the woodwork side of it too made it more enjoyable."62 inches and 2 little lines past the half"😂that's how I measure.great content guys, much respect from UK.
I am doing this exact same thing next weekend. Never done one before. I feel confident that I can do it, but I have seen a few things here that I hadn't yet thought about that now I will be looking for. Before during and after pics coming soon. (fingerscrossed)
Outstanding video...Adding the build was excellent. You mentioned you were going to show how to "scroll" the back edges for a nice snug fit. I watch again to see if I missed it. Great video...tool discussion...stressing the prep....It's all in the prep ididnit?
I believe word is"scribe" to the wall, if the wall is un-even. These walls were fairly straight and allowed for for 1/4 inch or less gap, which was easily filled with painters caulk. Keeps the epoxy from dripping down the back of cabinets.👍
Great work Mitch...you are a great teacher. Step by step is always helpful to ur followers. This video I know is done in an empty house, but it could sure be a challenge to do this work in an occupied home.. alot more coverage with plastic and tape is required...
Awesome Mitch. Once again, You are not afraid of hard work. I know you say it's easy but that was a pretty tough week. The results were as good as I was expecting from you. :)
The toughest day was prep, the rest wasn't too bad at all. Pour day I was working about 2.5 hours is all!!!! Thanks for taking the time to let me know you enjoyed the video!
Someone may have already said this but TiteBond 2 is water resistant, 3 is waterproof. I also use 3 for cutting boards, outdoor projects and anything that is going to be near water.
Fantastic job! It's absolutely stunning. You have an amazing talent and should be quite proud of yourself. Thank you for all the tips and for sharing this job with us.
How much cost are you saving going with Epoxy and labor vs Granite vs Solid Surface? What is the price for the kitchen that you just did? I am looking for something a little more neutral. I don't think color selection would be a problem. Also how tough is this top against hot pans or heat? Good job btw.
Thanks for this. It gives me tons of confidence knowing that if I have questions, I can watch some videos and learn what I need to know. I've got a lot of projects coming up and I'm super excited for it.
Gordon, Their sales reps know their stuff and mine was extremely helpful. When you place your order, start a rapport. When I was doing my first project, I got the epoxy a little too hot with the propane torch and it caught on fire. Sigh! I called Mike, the sales rep, in a panic and he calmed me down “Don’t worry. It will sand out and when you put your clear coat on, it will look fine.” I’d does. Punch perfection on the face. Since then I did my kitchen countertops and a 20” backsplash. OMGOSH! Everyone who sees it freaks out on how amazingly awesome it is. You got this!
Me habéis despertado, un fuerte interés, por el EPOXY, y no tardaré en hacer alguna cosita, eso si de primerizo, y sin experiencia, pero con vuestros conocimientos compartidos. GRACIAS
Great job! Awesome work. I’d have personally gone with another color scheme, but you’re doing what your customer asked for. Hope they are enjoying it ask much as I enjoyed watching it be done.
☆☆☆☆☆ I love the fearless nature of your instructions. Makes me confident that I can rip out my old countertops and design them the way I had only dreamed of in the past. My dear Daddy left me an abundance of great tools and taught me how to use them. It is my goal to completely remodel my kitchen in the days ahead. Thank you again for an excellent video.

WHOOOOHOOO!

I like and appreciate the soft tone of your voice
I have watched several of your videos & subscribed to all.
Love them, love them, & love them!!!
Thank you for being so informative and helpful to all instead of just doing the project and leaving the important details out.
i just installed my kitchen yesterday... definitely will have to epoxy in place... im going to try it..
Beautiful!! You are an artist and awesome instructor. Nice video production too.
Thank you Mary for the great feedback! Have you worked with epoxy yet for a project?
@@mitchquist No, and wish I had seen this before getting granite!!
Thank you so much 😀
I have to brag, Mitch is my youngest son and he feels so good when he knows his hard work helps people learn!
I have watched this yesterday and today! I will probably be back tomorrow 😊
They also make an epoxy filler that works really well and is easy to just smooth off with a damp sponge, eliminating sanding. Dust is the enemy.
You are a very good teacher. Evudent in your explanation of each step in the process. Thanks

I have your product at home but I never have the time to do it but I love watching your videos From South Texas
I'll come do it next whitetail season if we can trade me filling my freezer with a whitetail with my bow!
I love your neatness, you could definitely work in my home,❤❤ that I love to watch people work with their hands ,very skilful.
Outstanding video...Adding the build was excellent. You mentioned you were going to show how to "scroll" the back edges for a nice snug fit. I watch again to see if I missed it. Great video...tool discussion...stressing the prep....It's all in the prep ididnit?
Great feedback JP! Thanks for taking the time to drop such a wonderful comment! Have you worked with epoxy yet for a project?
I believe word is"scribe" to the wall, if the wall is un-even. These walls were fairly straight and allowed for for 1/4 inch or less gap, which was easily filled with painters caulk. Keeps the epoxy from dripping down the back of cabinets.👍
You’re not fat and you do BEAUTIFUL WORK 😊
Really like your tips and tricks, you make me think I could actually pull it off.
Great work Mitch...you are a great teacher. Step by step is always helpful to ur followers. This video I know is done in an empty house, but it could sure be a challenge to do this work in an occupied home.. alot more coverage with plastic and tape is required...
Absolutely amazing! The exotic mix is so beautiful and the pour is so satisfying to watch.
Wow that is simply beautiful. you are so talented and gifted!! thanks for sharing

P
Dude, you are an artist! Excellent work
Wow, best how to/DIY vid ever!
Good job. Enjoyed the process. You have charisma. Great take away. Quality video.
Cheers
Someone may have already said this but TiteBond 2 is water resistant, 3 is waterproof. I also use 3 for cutting boards, outdoor projects and anything that is going to be near water.
Absolutely beautiful

WOW

Me & hubby are going to make an epoxy table

We can not wait to see your work! Please let us know if you have any questions.
Put 2 dowels in the holes on your orbital sander and you can put the paper on perfectly aligned with your dust vents in seconds
Watched till the end and its amazing.
Amazing job. That was so interesting.
Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions
Thank you for being willing to share your knowledge.

GRACIAS
I can feel my brain growing every time I watch one of your videos
Love this video. Well put together and informative. It actually convince me to expand my flooring business to also epoxy countertops. Thank you!
I absolutely love the color scheme! Very informative video! Thank you for your time!
Titebond 1 is for interior use tiitebond 2 has water resistance in the glue.
Great job! Awesome work.
I’d have personally gone with another color scheme, but you’re doing what your customer asked for. Hope they are enjoying it ask much as I enjoyed watching it be done.
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!!!
Awsome!! Easy learning, well explained.... Enjoying ur job! Hugs from Chile!!

I love the fearless nature of your instructions. Makes me confident that I can rip out my old countertops and design them the way I had only dreamed of in the past. My dear Daddy left me an abundance of great tools and taught me how to use them. It is my goal to completely remodel my kitchen in the days ahead. Thank you again for an excellent video.
Wow, I came for the epoxy countertops, stay for the hundreds of construction tips. All for free!! Keep up the great work SCC!
