@@StoneCoatCountertops THANKS! I will for sure, Im going to start by making desks. I already have my Stone Coat Epoxy i ordered 6 months ago LOL, and got the MDF and ordered the legs. Thanks You for your Enthusiasm and Guidance in the ART of EPOXY!!
I was taught when installing benchtops to only ever screw them down from underneath. That way, when you decide to change them, you can unscrew them and lift them out easily. If you screw down from on top and then put your finish coat on top of your screwheads, you're kind of screwed later.
I love doing this kind of stuff!!! I wish I was 15 years younger to start a business doing this. It's great all the creative things around the house you can do with epoxy!!! I love it!

Really loved the idea to make a mold to create your own tile for the backsplash considering the supply chain issues these days. The company I work for is doing a lot of the same kind of things. Basically manufacturing things we are having trouble getting but are necessary in construction to keep projects moving forward.
what a great video! I'm 68 next month and building a home out of a steel building (small), doing a lot myself. I just love projects and watching this has given me more ideas. thank you thank you thank. next up I want to learn how to do molds, it's got to be easy. I'll be doing live edge counter tops and furniture along with epoxy in the shower and perhaps even the floors. Go old ladies! KrazyKate

I like how you speak to your employees. You don't get disrespectful and raise your voice. That's one thing I hate about a lot of contractors is they forget that they had to learn at one time and they get really disrespectful to their employees. I have my own business and I never get disrespectful or yell at any of them. I may get aggravated but I don't let that out. Especially in front of a customer like some people I know.
This kitchen video is what I needed. I'm going to use the 3/4 inch plywood and 3/4 inch mdf for my new countertop vs using the old particle board laminate ctop! Thanks Mike and the team at Stone Coat Countertops! You're producing the vids almost as I need them! Your Texas customer!
Just recently started watching your channel. Closed my Countertop shop owner after 911. Doing a raised 42” pass through and excited to do one of these instead of hiring a fabricator for granite. I have one suggestion watching this video but sure not criticizing, ✅. When you layup the full sheets scribe the back wall (if needed) and make your cut BEFORE you trace the front of the cabinet to get your overhang. Perfect fit front and back every time.
I completely remodelled our last home of 13 years due to a major water leak. Went through 3 sub par (to say it nice) sub contractors and fired the contractor too. Ended up doing the rest myself and sold the house. Went from a completely remodelled beauty to a very well built home straight out of 1995. Great video...only one thing I have to comment on. The electric outlet covers should have been removed before measuring for cut outs. They needed to be extended to the outside of the backsplash. By code they cannot be recessed into the backsplash the way you did it. Hope you see this...FYI
I am loving how you did your molds for the backsplash. So glad you show all your tips of the trade. I made a countertop a year ago in my house that I sold and it was such an awesome focal point in my kitchen. Love you all
The little yellow miter box works great with a Japanese pull saw. It is quick, clean and gives a longer stroke length. I told myself I would never use one either, but sometimes for a few quick cuts - beats pulling out the power tools. Pro-Tip! Love the videos, y’all are amazing!!
I obviously love your work and all the detail you go into explaining the reasons for every step. Also, Great video footage! I could watch you guys all day.. Thank you for schooling us all!
Fantastic work on making those concrete slabs for the backsplash! One thing I would do differently is to add thinset to the mix. It makes the material a lot more rigid and dense. That picture frame looking piece looks perfect! Good job overall
I am using the old cupboard doors from the kitchen I tore out to practice different color schemes/applications. I ordered lots of different colors to have a good supply to choose from
Fascinating! Who would've thought you could get such a beautiful marble-like effect with epoxy poured in-place? It was very thoughtful of you to document your process so thoroughly, too, answering potential questions as you went along. The only thing I found a bit dubious was the frame effect over the range. (Framing some countertop? I agree, there's a certain artistic element to the work-but is it really necessary to shout "Hey, this is art!" like that? LOL) These are just matters of taste, though. Everything else looks top-class IMHO. Thanks!
Sitting here watching this on a cold rainy Sunday afternoon, and was so happy you put the super hero looking locust back splash right side up! Great job all around!
Amazing work! As a tiler though, i'd definitely try to find a way to flush mount those wall sockets. I'm pretty sure you can lift them out and use a black bracket around them plus a bit of dark grey silicone and they would be totally flush and natural.

The last induction cooktop I put in from Bosch was so low profile that instead of trimming out with two fake half panels, I was able to put an actual drawer on the right after trimming 3/4" off the sides. Great for holding utensils.
I’ve been watching you all day man I love the Contant thanks for not being a gatekeeper and trying to keep your pro tips to yourself!! Going to give it a try!
As a tile installation professional, I can find only one critique and that is that there should have been box extensions and covers over the stone backsplash for a cleaner look. The rough texture could be overcome or router the plates into the surface. It would allow a smaller opening to be cut and more material so breaking the pieces when cutting is not as likely. It also would allow for easier access to the plates in the future.

It's amazing having seen your first videos in your house and original shop to where you are now. God has truly blessed your efforts and talent. Good job you guys are a great inspiration.
This was an excellent video! I've watched it now a few times and learned a lot. Ive been having trouble with lap lines no matter what I do, but I think I've got it now! I love the natural finish you get with the ultimate top coat. Great job guys!
I can't believe I sat through all that, I'm a twenty-minute man usually. It was very entertaining and most enjoyable. Five or six years ago I did my kitchen benchtops, Epoxy Glue, sprayed with stone chips, Sanded back and coated with an epoxy coat. It came out just drop dead amazing, but, I have often wondered how it has worn.
I noticed when using silicone on the sink, there was a pulling motion instead of a pushing motion. I have heard it is better to push the silicone bead forward to help get better penetration and to help prevent it from shrinking back.
@@joerichmar6041 While your statement is somewhat true, pulling the silicone bead will drag the bulk of the bead horizontally along the seam and not allow as much penetration into the crack. Pushing the silicone bead forward while using the caulk gun will allow deeper penetration into the seam. While it may be a little messier to apply, it is easily wiped clean.
What a TERRIFIC video! Fabulous project with an absolutely beautiful finished product. I think maybe the BEST "how to" video I've seen. GREAT GREAT JOB!!!! Thank you.
I thought the same until I have lived with the top coat for almost a year. I love that I don't care what gets set on or scraped across the counter. The top coat is tough they aren't kidding about the screw test. You do get used to it
Man! You’re a Master, it is a joy watching you make such a beauty I wish I could meet you in person it would be an honor. Thank you for bringing joy to my life
Question- since you were building the counters in place would it not have been easier to staple the plastic to the top of cabinet frames before installing the plywood tops? this way you save time and taping. Just cut it loose after you're done with expoxy.
Would love to see a high sheen or clear topcoat. I also use resin over my artwork to add a glass like finish. Sometimes, despite my best efforts a hair drops in that I don’t catch till dry. Would be great to be able to sand and do some touch up rather than having to do a second flood coat.
@@StoneCoatCountertops So, I thought I would LOVE the UTC Natural. But I found it too matte. (But woah, dang, that top coat is tough as nails! Epoxy is not an option without a protective coat IMO.) But lookie here!! You guys have got a gloss coat. I really like the gloss UTC. I think the sheen is more like a polished natural stone. But of course, the chemistry causes much more texture. Other companies that use a similar product have the exact same problem. If you guys could somehow solve the texture issue (I know it ain't easy) but you really would have the most unique product on the market. The forums are all chit chatty on how to reduce the texture, which percentage of water to use, how many dry rollers to use. So, the problem clearly isn't quite solved. I hope you guys continue to push the product chemistry to help solve the problem. You all are folks for the job! Keep pushing it so epoxy can get better and better at substituting for stone. Thanks for what you do!
Fantastic! You guys are so professional, your work is art and perfection. I love the molded rock look on the back wall, that was ingenious. I also love the use of the cooktop cutout on the back wall. Framing the cutout piece was also a cool idea, though I think personally I wouldn’t have framed it. My only criticism is not really a criticism, but a personal taste. I would’ve made the back wall a lighter color, but to still match the countertops lighter areas. Wow! An awesome job and the customer is very happy. Good job!
I would suggest taking the drawers out, and doors off before taping up the cabinets. Very cool products and very informative video.. love the background tunes.
I Still have to watch the other two, but the countertop one was awesome and so I am going to watch the other two and I want to say thank you for all that good teaching and knowledge. CB
I absolutely love that rock backsplash. Im gonna have to go back and watch that part of the video where you made those molds Ive looked for them online after seeing a video on Russian molds. They had powdered pigments you could use innthe mold prior to pouring the cement and it was crazy realistic when done They were using them for the lower part of the house walls. I really really really want that look on my house but cant swing the $24,000 to do it. Pouring my own pieces is the only way i could pull that off. Id love a link if you have a product video showing how to use whatever product made those backsplash molds.
@@MikeQuist- by afordable can you give me a guage? That large mold you created with multiple sections of the pre-bought sections...how much did that cost to make? Also do you have videos on the product's use? Or a link to the page to purchase it? I have several things i want to cast

With the economy the way it is, anyway for a homeowner to cut corners on a remodel is a really good thing! I love these videos and though I'm well aware that things are never as easy as they look, a friend of mine suggested I do a few small, practice pieces before jumping in with both feet. Practice makes perfect and a little trial and error on a smaller scale will help you achieve the look in this video. Thanks!

I'm 16 minutes into this and the question that comes to mind is...what if this entire countertop ever has to come off for a new design look? The first layer of plywood screwed in place then the second layer glues and screwed. I don't see how it could ever come off without causing major damage to the cabinets. And MDF and water around the sink...source of moisture. It is beautiful to the eye.
And I thought I was the only Carpenter that uses his worm drive for everything !! Since I retired, sure miss the days of: "Nail guns a Blazin' and Sawdust a Flyin"
Keep up the good work and the great videos. “I have two layers of tape which is probably unnecessary” and then I said to myself “until it is” and that’s basically what you said lol. Better be more protective!

Congratulations on the million mark!!!! Well Done!!
I lost you great guys for a while... now I found you and are even more amazed!
Great team effort , clear instructions . Way to go Mike !!! SUPER
Thank you for all the support! Have you done any projects with StoneCoat epoxy? We would love to see pictures if you have!
I used Bondo in the 90’s when someone wanted their damaged trim repaired versus the cost of replacing it. Columns went great with it!
Great project video from start to finish! I appreciate the pro tips too. the concrete mold was genius!
You are a true Craftsman who builds with pride. That kitchen came out beautiful..
Thank you so much for your kind words! Have you tried StoneCoat epoxy? Remember You Got This!😃
This was an excellent video! I've watched it now a few times and learned a lot. Ive been having trouble with lap lines no matter what I do, but I think I've got it now! I love the natural finish you get with the ultimate top coat. Great job guys!
Thank you so much Vaghn! Do you have more project lined up? Remember You Got This!
@@StoneCoatCountertops yes I do! I’ll be placing some orders this week. A custom bathroom vanity and table.
What is pushing if not just pulling from the opposite direction? Seriously, Im asking.
@Hello Charles how are you doing
What a TERRIFIC video! Fabulous project with an absolutely beautiful finished product. I think maybe the BEST "how to" video I've seen. GREAT GREAT JOB!!!! Thank you.
I feel like the glossy look is more appealing than the matte for countertops.
I thought the same until I have lived with the top coat for almost a year. I love that I don't care what gets set on or scraped across the counter. The top coat is tough they aren't kidding about the screw test. You do get used to it
I'm actually the exact opposite xD
@@jonsaircond8520 thanks for the review!
As a mom who has to keep a gloss counter glossy. It's too much work. Wipe and walk away matte for me.
Agreed! I like the glossy finish. Otherwise, awesome job!!!
THE MOLD AND CONCRETE WAS WORTH THE YIME WATCHING!!
THBIG THX FOR THE INFO!!
POTENTIAL FOR SAVINGS,GIGANTIC!!
I love learning from watching you guys! Xo, thanks so much for sharing all you put into your DIY projects! Melissa
Thank you so much for your support Melissa! We would love to see some of your work my friend. You Got This!
Did this in the kitchen of my prior house a few years back - completely surprised how well it turned out.
I love your videos. You almost have me convinced I can do this by myself.
:)
I am taking notes on all the holes and screws you do. I am doing my kitchen and bar and bathroom. I love your techniques. Just Beautiful.
Beautiful job, you guys. Just like everything you do. Came out great. The gloss gives it a really high class finish. Love it!
Thank you so much! What projects have you done? We would love to see! Remember You Got This!😇😊
What is the material used for the mold?
That is possible. Peeling tape is faster than potentially leaving little bits of plastic hanging out at the joint in the end though
@Hello Don how are you doing
I love the way you think. The information about the backsplash is priceless. What a amazing kitchen.
Would love to see a high sheen or clear topcoat. I also use resin over my artwork to add a glass like finish. Sometimes, despite my best efforts a hair drops in that I don’t catch till dry. Would be great to be able to sand and do some touch up rather than having to do a second flood coat.
We can do a video on that. Have you google searched Stone Coat Art on TH-cam?

Just love it, can't wait to be able to do my own countertops soon.
Whats holding you back?
@@MikeQuist- waiting to close and get into the house.
@@MikeQuist- did you get to see the nightstand that I did though?
I Still have to watch the other two, but the countertop one was awesome and so I am going to watch the other two and I want to say thank you for all that good teaching and knowledge. CB
Thank you kindly for your support Calvin! Please let us know if you have any questions, You Got This!
I absolutely love that rock backsplash. Im gonna have to go back and watch that part of the video where you made those molds
Ive looked for them online after seeing a video on Russian molds. They had powdered pigments you could use innthe mold prior to pouring the cement and it was crazy realistic when done
They were using them for the lower part of the house walls. I really really really want that look on my house but cant swing the $24,000 to do it. Pouring my own pieces is the only way i could pull that off.
Id love a link if you have a product video showing how to use whatever product made those backsplash molds.
It's really affordable to pour your own!
@@MikeQuist- by afordable can you give me a guage? That large mold you created with multiple sections of the pre-bought sections...how much did that cost to make?
Also do you have videos on the product's use? Or a link to the page to purchase it? I have several things i want to cast
@@MikeQuist- I came to the comments to get this same info if its available. What product made those molds? Have you done a video on that yet?
If you find out could you link I have been searching the site no luck yet
The countertop is absolutely pressed taking ! Very talented and excellent craftsmanship 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Brandy thank you so much for your kind words🙌 Do you have any projects coming up?
Nice video but one thing i can't avoid is investing!
Job will pay your bills, business will make you rich but investment makes and keep you wealthy, the future is inevitable
My life has totally changed since I started with $7,000 and now I make $ 29,450 every 14 days.
I'm new to investing, how do i do it?
@@jacksonwilder8486 I started investment in cryptocurrency late July 2019 with the help of a well-known professional sir Charles Schwab who thought me great strategies on how to trade and accumulate profits

That mold was incredible!!
Hi, Mike! Love this video!!! Thank you once again! You are the best teacher! Just one question? Why didn’t you do the cutouts ahead of the epoxy? Seems like that would have been easier? What am I missing?
I love these dark and light contrast counter tops. I have been in a quandry whether to do light or dark.... i have found the answer! Thank you!
You remind me of Bob Ross. He would make me believe that I could paint a beautiful picture with happy trees. Sadly, I still struggle with stick figures. Now I’m 50 and you would have me believe that I could paint (epoxy) a beautiful stone countertop. Here we go again…
Thank you for your content and your wonderful inspiration.
This is one of the most thorough and detailed instructional videos I have ever seen.
Gentlemen you did a wonderful job! I would just as not have your artistic job as the granite I now have! What a difference in cost!!
Your videos and you work is very inspiring, I exopy everything now, thanks for all the tips helps alot
@Hello James how are you doing
You are an artist.
hey guys template and build a plaque for your plugs, remove the faceplate, go tight to box and faceplate over the plaque...looks great and is way easier with no cutting. pretty amazing work fellas
I love the counter the lady did, it all flows together.
Been watching for a couple of years. Made my own kitchen countertop and island top with MDF. The countertop came out very good. With the experience of the countertop I was able to improve the island top and am waiting for my next project.
Hey John ! How long did it take you to get where your at. How did you get started. Thanks Kevin
WOW 🤩 I am constantly learning new tricks from watching your videos plus I save them, thank you ☺️ beautiful work!

Awesome Totally awesome job. Great instructional video. Not only can you talk the talk, you can walk the walk !
Thanks!
u open my eyes&mind..how a lot of thngs can do from epoxy.. just need the ideas.. creativity & some trick& efforts n offcoz talent.! I just spent few thousand last year for my new xtended 14ft..kitchn cabinet. same like yrs.. black shinny.. but using concreted cement as foundation &8pcs@ 2x2' x1/2" shinny tiles. OK MIKE Q, YOUR ENERGY, YOUR DOWN TO EARTH PERSONALITY. IT'S MAGNIFYING, I'M WITH YOU AND THE CREW, JUST SUBSCRIBED 02-22 2022, TAKE ME 2 SCHOOL. DETROIT MICHIGAN, SALUTES !!!
You killed it man! Great video I just finished watching the entire video from beginning to end. Great job. Love your energy. Keep it up
I'm 16 minutes into this and the question that comes to mind is...what if this entire countertop ever has to come off for a new design look? The first layer of plywood screwed in place then the second layer glues and screwed. I don't see how it could ever come off without causing major damage to the cabinets. And MDF and water around the sink...source of moisture. It is beautiful to the eye.
Great job I really like that u show how things are
In the real world ( when the back splash cracked when
cutting out the electric plug )
And I thought I was the only Carpenter that uses his worm drive for everything !!
Since I retired, sure miss the days of:
"Nail guns a Blazin' and Sawdust a Flyin"
Keep up the good work and the great videos. “I have two layers of tape which is probably unnecessary” and then I said to myself “until it is” and that’s basically what you said lol. Better be more protective!
