I liked it a lot before the fractures/veins were added. I like fractures/veins, as they make it look more authentic, but to me, there were too many added. But I'm new to this process, so I could be off base. I think you guys do beautiful work, and would LOVE to have your countertops in my new kitchen! That's a whole big story there. Anywho, keep up the awesomeness!

Looks BEAUTIFUL! My opinion: I would have not added the cracks. They take away from the overall kick-ass-ness. Too straight, too wide, too many.

After watching this video, I’ve learned that a palette of a billion shades of the same color family plus a few contrasting colors makes an extremely authentic stone look. The mass produced countertop kits at the big box store have maybe 3 colors in one kit. I’ve seen the results at two friends’ houses. It does NOT look like stone or marble. It looks like paint.
The countertop y’all created in this video looks so vivid, so authentic, and so natural. Adding so many colors to the pour gives so many layers. This is what separates a custom product from a mass produced kit.
I hope to recreate this effect in white, copper, beige, tan, and cream with hints of pink, yellow, and terra-cotta. I’ve known I wanted stone coat brand for a while, but I could not decide on a color.

At first I thought the veins were way too thick and shouldn't have been added until I looked up rainforest granite and saw that what you did was spot on. You're opening up my creative eye to the possibilities of what's possible should I ever begin working with epoxy. I really enjoy your videos.

Also, an idea for fracturing would be to overlap your fracture papers and cut a swiggly line and then when you spray paint lines they wouldn't just be straight lines.

  • @rob379lqz
    @rob379lqz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank-you. Very impressive.
    1. In low humidity environments, consider adding more drop-sheet and taping. Ie. Lay/hang plastic drop shert over TV screen, and more of the windows. Reason is: very small specks of airborne spraypaint can adhere to unintended surfaces.
    2. What your thoughts on using the pistol-grip triggers on your spraypaints? Is there enough precision, or is the index finger better? One other option is using your thumb, as it is less fatigued than index finger. With Nitrile or Latex glove, and thumb on top of the nosel, wrap a few rounds of masking tape around your hand to assist in a un-fatigued and more relaxed-hand hold. The disadvantage is that until you find the best position for your wrist/arm, it will feel a bit awkward.
    3. This is purely a subjective comment (and I understand that there were several people involved): I merely see a bit of over-processing in quantity of cracks/cuts/fissures/imperfections. I do understand this was a tutorial, yet may I respectfully mention that “more is not always better”.
    Thank-you again, and impressive collaboration.

I watched the video of epoxy on concrete floor first, and it discussed how using the torch and/or alcohol helps remove air bubbles. As I'm watching this video, if I hadn't seen the other one first I would have thought the torch was to help the curing process. This seems like an extremely important and helpful tip. So as someone new to your videos, this tip/explanation would be helpful to verbalize in more videos in case a person didn't see the other ones. Just a thought :) I'm loving these projects so far!

One thing I might want to add when doing the prep is that the Bondo dries really fast 5-6 minutes and unless you're familiar with using it, it would probably be best to mix it up on something else besides the counter top, I like using a paper plate. Then sand it before it completely hardens otherwise you'll be spending a lot of time sanding it smooth.

Well Mike, just finished a desk for my daughter xmas gift, first time epoxy, could be better. Although most messups will be fixed with top coat maybe, seems i should of used more then 3oz per sq ft for my dirty pour. Many lessons learned tho!

I love the colors but I didn’t like the fracture lines. Some of the interlinked lines don’t look natural.

it's a rain forest with vines hanging down and things like that. It takes us away deep into a rain forest like in Brazil. It's really amazing if you allow yourself to imagine something like Avatar's deep jungle scenes.

Love it 😀! If it was meant to look like stones, some of the lines probably should stop where the main lines crossed.

This is beautiful ! I have never seen actual rainforest granite but I think I would like it more without such heavy fractures. Your location looks like where I live in Florida in the woods.

Beautiful work!!! Just a quick question. Did you just do a color coat then UTC?? or was a clear coat added after putting in the veins, off camera.

Oooo you could put another layer on it and build up the layers and shades.. Softening up the lines and add more . 👍 Such gorgeous colors.

Looks great. What thickness is the ply. Does it have to be marine ply? Can you use any seal paint/primer?

At first I was going to say that I didn't like the fatter veins and there were way too many, but then I looked up rainforest granite...and you all NAILED IT!! Beautifully done!
I really like how you hand painted some of the lines. I'm going to incorporate this into my art pieces. Thank you
