  • This is a review / Preview of a load of a new photo etch set from Maritime Models. This is a complete set of Marconi telegraph lines, for fitment to the Trumpeter 1:200 model Titanic.
    Over the video I compare this to the telegraph lines I made, and feedback on the suggestions I made to Neil to improve this set before it goes to general manufacture.
    Sincerely thank you to Neil over at Maritime Models for sending me this stuff, it's an absolute pleasure to look over such beautiful work.
    At present this is a prototype, so isn't available to the general public, but it will be soon! So keep your eyes peeled at:

    It really is the little details that make such a diffrence. Thank you for sharing, your model is a museum piece, no, it's a masterpiece. 🙂

    Excellent Rob, just magnificent. Looks that tad bit more perfect than it was originally, needless to say.. it was stunning enough as it was before. You've done a truly magnificent and stunning job indeed. In the glass case it looks utterly bewildering and enough to blow hearts out of the water. Well done again, well done mate 👏 👍

      Thank you! The Marconi certainly made a big difference to the overall look. We live in a good age for models with all these good production systems for custom parts!

      @@TheModelBoatGuy They certainly have, and you did a truly magnificent job. If ever you plan to do the HMHS Britannic or even the RMS Olympic, you'll have us all on our knees and bowing. Thanks a lot, your an inspiration to all model builders, your tactics have helped me out with my own large scale project, the 1/200 KMS Gneisenau.. not finished yet but for my first 1/200 warship, I think I'm doing fair enough. Again thanks so much and again.. congratulations 🎊 👍

    A much-needed and long-awaited upgrade. You are right for the final product, a complete ready-to-install kit of this quality is desired.
    I can't wait for it to go on sale! 😃

      Yeah it’s a bit of a game changer. Especially since it’s such an obvious part of the model that can be seen really easily!

    I actually brought up the lines into the Marconi room when he announced this in the Facebook group. He said he was hesitant just because, while the distance between the masts will stay consistent from model to model, the distance to the Marconi room may differ slightly. So going down, it wouldn't be a one size fits all solution.
    I do agree, looking at how it hangs, it is definitely way too low. It should be almost taut above the funnels, IMO.

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the height of the Marconi lines is a bit of a personal preference. I don’t think they should be as low as shown here, but they would naturally have expanded and contracted with heat during the seasons. I reckon there would probably have been a method for the crew to tighten or slacken them depending on the conditions.
      As for the drop downs. I suggested the best way forward may be to cut a hole in the roof of the officers quarters and allow the lines to free fall into it, that way you can have a bit of a variance in wire length and get away with it

    • @TheModelGamer
      @TheModelGamer ปีที่แล้ว

      @TheModelBoatGuy that would likely work. Basically create a set of drop downs that will work for most, and then add maybe, say, 5-6cm to it for variances. Then one could either do like you suggest or cut them to size.

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheModelGamer yep exactly, that accounts for people having subtly different mast heights and angles.
      Also, it stops the drop down wires pushing up on the main telegraph lines which spoils the drooping effect somewhat!

    I have the RC 1/200 scale Titanic by Bancroft. Although it's a stunner I have added my own bits of detailing and can't wait for this to be made available. The lines aren't bad, just taught. This is a remarkable solution! 🤘

    I'm currently creating a model of the RMS Olympic in 1/200 scale. I would love to get my hands on some cables like these rather than printing them.

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I think they are the best method I’ve currently seen.
      Printing is a novel idea though, 3D I assume? What material?

    Hi Robbie, well this set looks like a nice addition! Quite a surprise but having said that Neil made a good job of the funnel stays too. I may well get this excellent addition, I need only 2 aerials for my model but I can adapt it quite easily. Currently plodding on with fibre optics in the hull, going well though! Regards JH ⚓😉

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John,
      Hope all is well, yes you shouldn’t have too many issues chopping two of the cables off. It’s just a bit tricky to make the cut without introducing bends into the metal. But I reckon you’ll do it fine.
      Good to hear you are onto the fibres. That will be a long process!
      Keep well,
      Robbie

    Gorgeous piece. A do agree that it's too long making it droop too much. I don't think it's a matter of millimeters though, I think its a matter of 2 -2.5 cms. Looks great though!

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s amazing how little change in length creates a major reduction in the sag, but yeah, we’ll have a play. In some ways it is a modellers choice. I am confident these cables would have expanded and contracted in different temperatures anyway

    Don't know if you get this but on TV they are showing raise the Titanic, I saw the bit of titanic leaving sea bed and am sure the props were the three blade type .I know it's a stupid film but I just thought you would fine it amusing.

    Wonderful ship! I loved your last vid, as she was going sailing at night! It felt so real, but I was sad that you said it will just stay inside the case, which I think you should do more vids sailing! Also can I suggest if you want to recreate the titanic orchestra playing inside the ship! I know there is in TH-cam a channel with original titanic music played, and I know there are RC, modellers building a small speaker making either engine sounds or in your case maybe an orchestra playing! 😅 yes can you do that?

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there, thank you for the comment!
      She won’t be in the case for all time. But she is so delicate it is a bit of an operation to get her to and from the lake in one piece, so it’s something I only want to do occasionally.
      One the orchestra thing, I have a sort of onboard speaker that you can load with sounds, engines, horns etc. and of course you can add the band. The challenge is to mix the sounds correctly. I doubt anything except the horn would have been very audible from 100 meters away. So trying to just get the violins floating across the water in a realistic way is a challenge, and sadly audio mixing is not my strong suit! But I am trying to work on that for a future sailing vid!

      @TheModelBoatGuy  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, well worth it! It’s not bad when disconnecting, but it’s still delicate for sure, so you need a very steady hand! But that’s just because at this scale it will always be a delicate part!
