    Just starting to learn Houdini and wondering if this is still the best workflow? It helped me out on a current project! Thanks !

    Very cool workflow! How did you get the windy grass that we see in the beginning?

      Thank you! Well its just the basic motion setting that you get with the quixel scattering node! :)

    What if I want a character to interact with these quixel grasses?Is there any suggestion? thanks!!!!

    The part where you turned on the instance option on the upper level of the scatter node in your subnet, was for me, the piece of gold in your tutorial.
    I went from stalling out on my pc with 26000 instances to rendering 1 million+ instances.
    I don't know what the upper limit will be, but I haven't crashed yet...

      That is exactly why I made that tutorial! Glad it helped you out! :)

      Yeah, I was using Instance OBJ level node to not max out ram, but yeah that checkbox was GOLD. Thank you @PascalWiemers

    Great stuff works really well! Was wondering if you did any optimisations to the scene render settings, your preview seems to clean up very quickly even with 10,000 instances - I've got it working with instanced geo but the preview is still very laggy, and a frame test just took 10mins+ on my machine (which is normally pretty quick). Might be the particular plant I chose, a fairly detailed fern - or maybe something else?

    • @PascalWiemers
      @PascalWiemers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That were the default render settings. My machine is pretty beefy tho (2x2080 + threadripper 3970 32 core). My redshift version is also v.3.019 if that helps.

      @@PascalWiemers Thanks Pascal - that must be it, I just need an upgrade ;-) I'll do some digging and report back if I get any more info in case anyone else is having the same problem.

      Ah another thing if it really needed you can also save out RS proxy files! You would have to save out each plant individually and than instance those on the points. It is a little bit more complicated and adds extra steps which I am not willing to do if not absolutely necessary but if that could give you the ability to render such scene it might be your only choice.

    Super helpful, I set this up and it was working fine. Opened the file later and the scattered assets won't show up unless I untick "pack sop level packed primitives". This slows things down a ton, have you encountered this or have any idea for how I would fix it?

    • @PascalWiemers
      @PascalWiemers  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      if u have a lot of assets they will be shown as bounding boxes. If u zoom in closer they should pop up again. If that is not the case I don't know what is going on with your scene

    Thanks a lot, nice and straight to the point.
    Just one thing ... I think you are recording your videos in a wide screen ratio format .... so even the full screen shows a bit small, and it becomes harder to read the attribute wrangles (for example).
    Just wanted to add that ... maybe if you stick to the regular 1920x1080 .
    and by the way, for some reason, a lot of people having problems with the quixle plugin if they are running it on a higher version than 18.0.348 .... I noticed you are running it on 416 .... did u have a fix for it? ... cuz when I and other users who have raised the issue as well, run it on anything other 348 ... the plugin screen is blank!!
    Thanks ...

    • @PascalWiemers
      @PascalWiemers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the feedback! I will use 1920x1080 than in the future even tho I like the aesthetic but from a practical standpoint it makes way more sense! :)
      And yeah I have the same issue with the newest release of Houdini but this version seems to be working fine.
      My env. path name for quixel is:
      HOUDINI_PATH;X:
      essources\quixel\support\plugins\houdini\4.4\MSLiveLink;
      Maybe this helps. So probably just update that file path to the newest version and that should fix it! :)

  • @nathanbayne3576
    @nathanbayne3576 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is great but i don't get how to attach it to geometry and keep the underlying geometry visible. I can get it to scatter along the surface but the initial object doesn't appear

    • @PascalWiemers
      @PascalWiemers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just Object merge that to a separate geo container

      Oh yeah i had that same problem as well. Officially 18.5 is still not yet supported. There are still a few bugs present even after fixing that issue (atlases and missing bump node with triplaner texture projection)

    Can you do the same scattering tutorial but with Renderman? Thanks

    • @PascalWiemers

      Everything should be basically the same and easy to apply after you completed some basic renderman tutorials

  • @louismelancon79
    @louismelancon79 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    would be more useful to show the scatter setup on an actual surface though... :) not very realistic scenario to have plants floating in the air with no ground (other than the grid to scatter points)

    • @PascalWiemers
      @PascalWiemers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The technique does not change. Just plugin any other geometry and enable that for rendering.
