    I got scammed by my repair guy, he replaced the break switch and the new one he put in still was doing the same thing. I found your video and did the fix and it worked perfectly, From now on I'm doing my own work

    You are a "god send" sir.
    On vacation, girlfriend found your channel, after I noticed our lights still on, after coming out from the grocery store. Thankfully we went shopping, probably wouldn't have noticed, otherwise. She decided to look it up, thankfully. 😅
    Got it jerryrigged, for the night, too try to make it to the store, in the morning. ALL before the eclipse, tomorrow, would've sucked, to have been stranded, on vacation. You're a life saver, I hope that you are doing well, since having made this video. Thank you! 😊

    YES! I watched your video and sure enough that was my problem. As my boyfriend took it out it broke completely. He put your temporary fix in right as I found the extended warranty recall notice in my glove box for this exact issue. 2012-2014 should be able to get this replaced this for free. I can for sure with the papers I kept, but worth looking into for others.

    The grommet is plastic on a 2002 Sonata. My grommet head broke off from the insert and I was able to put a screw in w/an aviator nut for the fix. Thanks for the info.

    In my travels over the road trucking I see many cars with brake lights staying on. Seems to be a common issue. I bet almost all of those switches are set up similar to that one. Nice easy fix.

    There are several problems with this for a permanent fix. One is the metal will quickly wear on the brake light switch pin. Then you'll have to replace the whole switch. Second, is with no give in the limiter pad, the switch will not activate till the pedal is depressed some distance. The brake lights should light up at the least touch of the brake. That is why they made the limiter of flexible material in the first place. Still, this workaround is a good stop gap until you can replace the limiter pad. They are so cheap you have to buy a dozen; but it's only about 5 bucks.

    My brake lights stay on, but it's because the brake does not come up to it's original position. I have to lift up on the brake with my toe to bring it home. Then the brake light goes off. Thoughts?

    • @BrokenWrenches
      @BrokenWrenches  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      if you have resistance bringing the pedal all the way up you may have a problem developing in the master cylinder/booster assembly. could also be in desperate need of a brake job. a combination of hydraulic back pressure and engine vacuum in the booster is what is primarily responsible for pushing the pedal back up. a super easy fix is putting a low tension spring somewhere on the pedal under the dash to keep slight rear/up pressure on the pedal.

    Also, if you don't have a properly-sized bolt-head screw and nut on hand, you can just super glue two pennies together, then super glue them to the top of the metal piece that the rubber pad used to go through. They're about the same height/width as the original pad.
