    Caution on the POL kit. I got mine after watching this video - came damaged and it has been a long process working to get some help. The guy who answered the phone was a jerk then you email pictures to thier email and wait. Still waiting for a response. Decent kit as long as you get it undamaged, the customer service is sub par.

    I have worked on similar conditions. I do exactly what you did, bypass all the wiring, just hook up the CDI, check spark, spray WD40 or LPS in the plug hole and turn the engine over a few times and install plug. Remove carb and squirt some mixed gas, heavy on the oil mix 30 to 1, in the intake and crank it over to see if it lights off. You can leave the carb on if you want and just spray the gas in the carb throat. If it has ok compression and spark, they usually run. If the crank seals and bearing are good it will run. I would like to have one of these engines mounted into a full suspension mountain bike with really low gears for creeping up the trail.

  • @POCarton
    @POCarton 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Poor thing looks like it was run over. I have 6 of these, 1 very good, 1 good, 2 nice, 2 parts bikes, but one of the parts bikes runs pretty good but needs crank bearings. Yamaha put a lot of engineering into this bike. Shaft drive, oil injection, cdi ignition, full size handlebar controls and decent breaks. They are durable and last a long time. Thanks for your time and video

    • @BrokenWrenches
      @BrokenWrenches 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      these are great bikes, well engineered for the most part. a lot simpler and more robust than a lot of similar sized bikes. starting system is way better than the honda express. ive got a good running example that i plan on restoring on the channel.

    would it be possible to use paint like a guide coat on smaller clear runs? I understand the concept of protecting the flat clear under the bondo, It seems to me that some sags or runs would not have to go quite extream as covering with bondo, Or would you just do the cut and buff as you would if there wasn't a sag or small run in this instance?

    • @BrokenWrenches
      @BrokenWrenches 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      that would depend on the severity of the run, generally speaking finer grit paper (1k) or higher will tend to float over imperfections like runs or dust and debris. I always get rid of these imperfections first before doing a cut and buff on a whole panel. on real small dust nibs or super small sags/runs i use a short piece of paint stick wrapped in sandpaper, usually 1k grit and hit the dust specks. the bondo method is usually for more severe runs, the bondo essentially protects the good areas around the runs and prevents these surrounding areas from being sanding to thin in reference to the clearcoat. thanks for watching.

    Where does the water go in.

    • @BrokenWrenches
      @BrokenWrenches หลายเดือนก่อน

      it goes into those slots on the sides of the lower unit forward of the prop. best way to test run it would be to just back it into the water at the boat dock and leave it strapped to the trailer with the bottom of the motor in the water.

    • @roberto.gallegos

  • @roberto.gallegos
    @roberto.gallegos หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have this exact motor. It’s a boat that was given to me. I have no idea how to check if the motor works because I don’t know where the water goes in to cool the engine. And I know that you can’t start the engine without the water going through the cooling system.

    • @ezHiker35
      @ezHiker35 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You need to get a thing called “flush muffs”, Walmart sells them. There’s a water intake on the lower unit down near the propeller. To feed cooling water to the motor, place the flush muffs over the intake, connect a water hose to it and turn on the water. Then you should be able to safely run the motor.

    When you overlayed the flex plates, how is a sharpie marking accurate enough?

    • @BrokenWrenches
      @BrokenWrenches หลายเดือนก่อน

      both parts are super rigid, you can spin the the torque converter up against the flexplate and it will usually make little scuff marks to help center the drilled holes. you drill the holes a little oversized just like the factory holes and when your putting it together permanently you just gradually snug each bolt a little at a time while rotating the engine and wiggling the converter a little… as long as the bolts draw down equally and your drill holes are reasonably close your good to go.
