  • TCL TV Screen Blinking Flicker Issue Fixed!
By taping the ribbon pins 12 and 13 on the ribbon connector the flicker issue on the TCL TV screen can be fixed as shown in this video.
This fix addresses the issue where the tcl tv backlight flickers. No more black screen.

This worked on my nearly 4 year old TCL 55". It started doing the same thing on the right side of the panel yesterday. One thing that's not mentioned is there's A LOT of screws to remove. Best to mark the pins on the ribbon cable with a fine point Sharpie first. This will give you a better idea of the width of tape to cut. I used electrical tape and believe me it's NOT easy. I didn't get it perfect the first try but using the tip of an Exacto blade to slighlty shift the tape left/right I managed to finally get 12 and 13 covered. Thank you very much for the video, you saved me $ and aggravation!

THIS WORKED FOR ME ALSO. Like @johndate1776 commented above, my TCL (model 55R615) has two ribbons at the bottom of the screen near the IR sensor. Each ribbon has 80 pins. My flashing was on the left half of my screen, so I taped off pins 12 and 13 on that ribbon with simple black electrical tape. Using a reading magnifier, after about 10 cutting attempts, I got sliver of tape just the right size to cover 2 pins. I reassembled, and the flickering is gone.
This video should win an award for the BEST fix-it video on TH-cam!! It is 1) very technical but easy 2) it's free 3) it SAVES the TV from going into the trash, and 4) IT WORKS! Great job. Thank you!

It worked for me. My issue was on the left side of the screen. I used masking tape and the pins where the 69th and 68th(from right to left), if you count the pins from left to right those will be the 12th and the 13th. No flickering after this!! Thanks a lot man, I'm sure this saved me a lot money and weeks without a TV!

Wow, thank you so much. Quite possibly the best 4 minute video on YT I have ever seen. I was prepared to purchase a new TV, chalking it up to burn-in or just a cheap TV. A tip for when I was straining my eyes looking for the 12 & 13th pin - I took a 2x picture on my Iphone and then zoomed in when viewing the picture to blow it up, luckily my cable had blue markings every 5-6 pins that i could use as reference and the 12th pin happen to sit right below one of the blue dots. I used standard scotch tape and cut it with sharp kitchen shears. Thank you!

Omg. I couldn't believe it at first but this worked for my TCL55PUS too... Thank you so much sir for sharing your knowledge with us. My issue was with the left side so I had to do it with the other ribbon like what others said.
It was really hard for me to carry this whole TV by myself as a petite girl and I almost cried trying to unmount then remount it back on the wall cause it was so heavy and it was so hard to position it in place without seeing the wall. Not to mention the difficulty of actually unscrewing everything and doing the fix. By the time I got to the taping part I was sooo exhausted and hopeless I just did what I could and prayed to God it would work and thank God it did. Honestly it may sound pathetic but this is one of the hardest things I've done in my life. But I managed to do it thanks to this awesome awesome video and even more awesome uploader. Omg I could cry. 😭😭😭Thank you so much dear Mr uploader. You saved me!!! It actually works.. thanks bro! Successful after 3 attempts switching on and off the tv to check. First 2 attempts of using overlapping scotch tapes didn't work. Finally works when I used a masking tape over the 2 layers of tape to fully block the connection. Easier to cut the tapes using penknife and cutting board. I just did this fix 20 minutes ago. I fixed a Canadian 55R617 (55 inch series 5 I bought in 2020). The ribbon in question was on the T Con board which is located at the bottom middle of the unit when you get the back off. Same idea, count in from the left on the cable until you hit 12/13 and lay down the tape. Took a few tries to get the position right, but it works!

Based on the comments, this looks like a wide spread issue for TCL . Fixed with tape like a charm. Used phone camera to put the tap on 12 and 13 pins. Difficult part was removing so many screws on the back of the TV and putting them back.

Thanks for the video! Here are a few tips that worked for me.
    1. Left side of the tv flickered so had to pull out the opposite ribbon to the one in this video. Then tape pins 68 and 69 (like others have said)
    2. Counted the pins by listening to an exacto blade go over each one. Was much easier to count the clicking sound and feel than counting just with eyes.
    3. I put blue marker on the tape so I could see the tape better and make sure I covered correct pins.
Really happy I found this video. Now just have to wait and see if the right side fails too. Not a good sign there have been so many people with this problem. TCL👎

Alright I managed to fix it for those TVs with only 1 ribbon cable when opening the main plastic compartment.
You HAVE to open the bottom plastic cover to be able to see those 2 ribbon cables because the main plastic cover doesn't show the 2 cables, only one!
Managed to fix it first try using the video shown here. Same method, you have to put tape on Pin 12 and 13 with the black isolation tape that came all over the TV.

Great job. I had to do something similar. It’s usually a blown pixel messing with the clock signal. Blocking off one the pins bypasses this. If you look closely at your screen you may notice one pixel line greyed out, but the rest of the screen works perfectly well. TCL panels seem to have this issue, BOE and AU Optronics panels seem spared. Good job making this content accessible.

I have a TCL 55DC748. For a while it showed the same small icon, your screen shows in the bottom left corner. A white square with three slashes and a red box in the top right corner of the white box. It flashes. Initially I got rid of it by unplugging the tv for 10 minutes and plugging it back in. This would be ok for a week and then it would return. Now my screen has started flicking, then it had a complete scrambled screen. Again, I turned off, left it for a while and turned back on. The screen had stabilised but every other day the problem returns. The icon in the bottom left corner remains until I turn it off for 10 minutes or so. How did you get ride of the icon in the bottom left corner?

Hello, glad to know that your TV display issue is now fixed. Thanks for sharing your experience. With regards to the pins, each pin controls a different function of the display and the flicker issue is related to malfunctioning of the automatic backlight control and by taping the pins that control this feature we are in a way disabling the feature that is malfunctioning. You will still be able to control the backlight through settings.
