    Extremely helpful! I appreciate the way you broke down the components into categories based on user types. People need to figure out what type of user they are so that they can make informed decisions -- these devices aren't cheap!

    • @johnstuart2070
      @johnstuart2070 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      There really isn't any need: the same principles apply in 2019 and they will in 2022 as well. The numbers have moved up, like 2-4GB RAM being sufficient is now 8GB, i3 processor is now i5, etc. The numbers have upgraded, but the fundamentals are the same. Identify what kind of user you'll be and Dave tells you what to look for depending on that, get your budget, and look at the laptops available.

    C2D 2007/2008 business laptop a la Dell Latitude/Thinkpad/HP Probook/Elitebook can mostly be found for sub $150 in near mint condition used on eBay, 4GB RAM and all that, 256GB SSDs can be found for less than a hundred dollars nowadays so just having that in mind gets you a pretty good daily for school/video playback/image editing/browsing for $250. Best thing about it is you can sell the HDD already in it so you fund the purchase of the SSD, and the fact there's a lot of parts if something ever screws up with the laptop, considering they're enterprise grade. Sad to see how the industry hasn't really advanced all that much since the C2D days.

    For software engineering, I'd definitely recommend >= 8gb ram. One example, if you have a couple of instances of android studio with large projects and chrome with a few tabs. This can get very close to using 8gb of ram :)

    • @Dave2D
      @Dave2D  9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Danny Fleming Ya, with larger projects Android studio was pretty memory hungry with v1.1 and earlier. But with v1.2 even REALLY heavy code feels very manageable at 4 gigs. Although Chrome ..uggh DAT MEMORY USAGE kills me hah.

    Hi , my name is shubh and i want to say. Is there any laptop which has i5 or i7 CPU with 8GB of RAM managment along with 2GB of high performance graphic card. Actually , i want a sleek and stylish design it doesn't matter how mant ports are present. But internet port and two usb ports is must , if there is no two ports So, at least one port of USB is must. In addition , i want at least 1TB Hard drive. As well as , i want a 13 inch screen size because i don't want big size screen such as 15 inches. Is there any laptop with these kind of features because i must for me and price range in between $1500 -$2000 and if it possible in that brands like Dell , Acer , Apple , HP etcetera.
    Thank you for read , i hope you got it and you will make a video on that kind list of laptop very soon...... 😀👍🏻

    I really want to help everyone out over here, to be honest i bought the Lenovo y50 the highest spec for 1699$ then after a month the battery broke down. It literally stopped working with 1 hour of document use, so i got another new Lenovo y50 for free. The after 3 weeks the hard drive broke down it wouldn't work or boot up. So i went ahead and bought a macbook pro 2015 13 inch 256 flash storage for about the same price but i had to pay a bit more and it has been working flawlessly with no issues and i have super happy with editing and it battery life is amazing with 11 hours from what i got in normal use. And the only issue with the Lenovo Y50 is the battery it uses at all time. So I would highly recommend the MacBook Pro 13 inch for light editing and normal daily use and it can handle games really well. Hope this had helped you.

    Hi! Love your videos. Please do a review on the HP Spectre x360! I'm debating between that and the Dell XPS 13.

    Great video! May I add a tip? Always watch video reviews on TH-cam before buying any specific laptop (you can simplify search process by installing Shopping Owl Chrome extension - it will add video reviews straight to Amazon pages). Usually in reviews you can discover all that small details that are important for you.

    Wow great video. You really know what you're talking about. I'm trying to find a all-around good specced laptop for maybe gaming and adobe stuff. You gave me some things to help decide. Thanks alot~

    Great video and great work, especially love the animations - I find they illustrate your points really well! :)
    I notice all the notebooks you mention have screens over 13" and even the 13" one is an Alienware beast. There must be some people for whom portability is a factor and might be looking for something a bit smaller and lighter. Do you have any recommendations for them?

    There is no doubt that it's really useful for me! I'm a senior colleges students as electronic and computer engineering! Planning get a new notebook for senior design and master program! There will have a lot heavily program work and I like games as well. So is that MacBook a good choice or a windows one is a better choice for me? I saw a lot of classmates use MacBook. But I'm not sure is that ok with program stuff? Thanks for the effort for this video. Keep going! Good luck Dave.

    This was one good video on notebook buying I have watched for a long time. People also come to me asking for advice. I personally use MBP for scientific research and stability of the OSX. Otherwise, I also advise Ubuntu notebooks for the same purpose: scientific computing.
