Beautiful quilt Penny and lovely project bags. Something my son used to say when his brother was getting on his nerves 9when he was young) “mummy! Christopher is making my bones tingle!”

I love the quilt for Mila, all the different pictures and embroideries. She's never going to sleep when she gets it, she'll be too busy looking at it! As a child I would have loved your quilt, it is gorgeous . Standen House looks fascinating I would like to see it and linger there all day long taking in all of the patterns fabric and embroidery work. I did giggle when you and Mum wore the tea cosy, I have one identical to yours and it certainly does keep the contents hot. How lovely to watch the children waiting for the waves to cover them with the sea water. Thank you. Hi to Pete. 😊

Oh Pene these chinwags are a joy. It’s so lovely hearing about your family’s sayings - “I’m concentrating Nan”! My Granny (who died before I was born) always used to say, when there was heavy rain, “it’s as well there’s nobody out in it”, she meant of course nobody from her family. My mother always said the same. Standen brought tears to my eyes (I’m feel a bit emotional today anyway), that beautiful embroidery still surviving and still bringing pleasure. Thankyou Pene, as always. Love to Pete. And you! Xx

What a thoroughly enjoyable video Pene,I kept interrupting my husband George to “look at the squirrels “and “look at this beetle”😂We both love wildlife.Family sayings we have so many I think it’s the glue that binds us over the years and they keep coming of course. The fish and chip shop is known as the chipchop in our family. And vimto is mimto. Can you guess,we are from the northwest of England 😊.Seeing your mum was so lovely I’m now caring for my mum who is 92.Thinking about past videos I think she will love watching your mums reminiscences as of course she was a young girl during the war and a young mum in the fifties and sixties. You and Pete are leaving such an archive for your family Pene what a precious gift.Talking about quilts my very talented friend an ex teacher has made “story quilts” similar to the eye spy quilts and has gifted them to her grandchildren’s nursery schools to make a cozy place to sit in the book corner.I thought that was a lovely idea. You are a star ⭐️

I'm glad you though as when I'm knitting or sewing I'm thinking, "can't let Pene down". Anyone would think you are going to call and inspect it! Wouldn't that be lovely? Standen is beautiful, well worth a visit, and it's a reminder of very different times. Thanks for the great videos you take on your travels, they really do bring joy. Such a fun video Pene, I love Pete’s socks! Your project bags are so beautifully finished too, as is everything you do. Thank you for sharing your visit to Standen, I remember the rocking horse next to the billiard table as it seemed as if the children were welcome in there, but the morning room is particularly special. I do miss seeing the Trust's houses looking “lived in “, they have taken furniture out of the one closest to me and made it more of a political statement. Now I want a Glory Tree 😊

Hi Joy, It's true, Standen felt 'lived in' and also there are two apartments where long term tenants live. Lovely to know it is loved. I love the 'smaller' more intimate trust houses.
You won't be disappointed with a Glory Tree. A friend gave us a few twigs and it has grown into a lovely tree, I will show you next time. It also has babies but we have to dig them up as one tree is enough! Its beautiful and so unusual. 😊

There were so many times during this episode that I had to chuckle, so thanks for the fun! Your great-granddaughter’s quilt is so adorable and will keep her busy finding all the precious details. She will treasure it forever. Pete’s socks are really spectacular! Maybe he’ll have to create a new style of cuffing up his pants to show off his socks 😂 We also have some family sayings that have stuck around over the years. Some from our immigrant relatives who were still learning English (think Mrs. Malaprop) as well as my kids when they were young. The tea cozy segment was hilarious! You really did look like the Statue of Liberty 🗽 Your mum was so cute as she was deciding which tea cozy look she was going for. She looked a lot like my mom who also was pretty game for a good time. Hi Pene. I've waited all day to watch. Really cheered me up.
The quilt is beautiful, and there are lots of bedtime stories in the fabric. There is no need for a book.
It was lovely to see your mum again. She looked very regal in the tea cosy. The thought of lockdown gives me the shivers.
It's been a week since my dental surgery, and I'm doing ok. It didn't quite go to plan, upsetting at the time, but feeling more positive now. I had some teeth out, and my grandson recommended I put them under my pillow. Apparently, the tooth fairy would give me loads money for all those teeth!

Hello from Washington State! Replayed your post for my husband Keith and he loved the lockdown segment. Loved Pete's reaction to your headdress. Too funny! 😂 Your great granddaughter is a very lucky girl. Such fun fabrics in her quilt. And that hare fabric is perfection! Lovely project bags (especially the memory one from last episode), lovely socks, amazing beetle facts, all such fun and interesting today (as always)! Our family saying is "Was it a Buffalo jump?" or "It was a Buffalo jump." My dad would never stop for touristy spots on road trips back to North Dakota, where my parents are from originally. It was always a straight 1120 mile journey with maybe occasionally a motel stay but mostly driving 18hrs through. As little kids we would watch billboard after billboard pass, advertising one attraction after another, and never did we stop. Until one trip when I was a teenager. For whatever reason, Dad agreed to take a side trip to a Buffalo jump. We were amazed! Wow! We get to see part of Montana (for that is where it was) other than the highway! Whoohoo! We turned off and started following signage to the Buffalo jump. Several miles in the road went from paved to gravel. The sign said it was just ahead. Ten miles on, the next sign said it was just ahead. The road started to have deep ruts and Prarie grasses in the middle that scraped the bottom of our car. Another sign said it was just ahead. And then it was. We were in the middle of nowhere, nothing to hear but the wind in the grasses. A small outcrop was in front of us. There wasn't any other signage. No other people. No pile of old bones. Nothing to see. Needless to say my dad wasn't very happy!
Thank you for making our day that much brighter with your post today! Take care. Hello to Pete, too.

Oh my word Ronna, driving for a straight 1120 mile journey, I can't imagine it as a child, nor as an adult either. I can imagine saying 'It was a buffalo jump' now to sum things up! It's hardly Disney! Pete and I have had a long conversation about what a buffalo jump is. I didn't have a clue. He knew straight away as his hobby and love is the lives of Native American tribes. He said they used to use every single bit of the buffalo so there wouldn't be anything to see, just the place where they were driven. Fun 😂!
Thanks for that lovely comment, the quilt is nearly finished and I do love it. Oh yes, another saying of Kay and myself is 'turned out better than expected' as we'd always have a go at any craft, and my quilt has turned out better than expected as it lies flat and feels just like a quilt should. I was apprehensive about the QAYG. Anyway, I'll do a film on it when finished. Bye, say hello to your hubby too. xx

Oh how I wish you could visit! We have such interesting Native American sites here in Washington. The plains tribes interacted with the coast tribes and both historically were here. Our state is divided by the Cascade mountain range so we have plains on the east side, and the Salish Sea on the west side. We even have a rain forest! In any case, the history of the Native Americans from here is so varied and interesting. The Maryhill Art museum we visited last week has an excellent exhibit of their artifacts from all over North America. Has Pete read The Girl with the Blue Tattoo? It is a factual account of a white girl kidnapped into a tribe and later "rescued." Interesting read about day to day life. I have another recommendation I will send later as we are at our lake lot now and I cannot remember the exact title. It's another factual account of a Native American who traveled to Europe in the 1800's. He was a most intelligent young man. Excellent book. Tragic story. As are most of them, sadly. I've been thinking of you for another reason.....our lake lot is in a forest. Our site has 100ft plus fir trees on it. We woke very early our first morning to the sound of wood being chopped, which echoed through the trees. As we sipped our camp coffee and grumbled about the lack of courtesy regarding chopping wood so early, with a burn ban on no less, we were just about beaned by a pine cone. And then another! And then one hit the tin roof of a storage shed. And it sounded like wood being chopped. Peering up into the branches we saw the reason. The squirrels were harvesting pinecones! They dropped the cones, then came down and munched away on them. Let me tell you, a pinecone falling from that high hits hard! We have PILES of shredded cones. Middens i think they are called?I can't watch them without thinking of you and your squirrels. These are quite dark with thin tails, Douglas squirrels. They chatter ALOT. Such fun! Wish you were here. 😊

Sorry. Shouldn't rely on memory anymore. The book is The Blue Tattoo: the life of Olive Oatman. Considered to be a more accurate accounting. Regarding your newest I spy quilt, what is the backing fabric you use? You mentioned it is linen-like, and on screen it glimmers, like silk almost. It looks just lovely.

Thanks, I'll tell Pete. The fabric is Makower Linen Texture. I love it. It is so smooth, and beautiful to work with. I had all the bits and bobs of colours left from other projects. I did Tommy's bird one with the green. You'll love working with it. xx

I had to laugh - you were a different sort on that little video clip (where you were only talking to friends) compared to how you are on your TH-cam videos now! I guess I would say you were more relaxed! But I liked it very much! Take care.

PS As I wrote the note below, I let the video start over, and therefore noticed that your sweater is not yet complete (thought gorgeous) and that made me wonder what else I missed. During the first watching I was distracted with trying to repair a dropped stitch, so...I watched the whole thing again! Your I spy quilt is so wonderful. I too love the ladder stitch, so am curious about your video to come. Also, it is so nice seeing Pete looking so well, and you had me calling out "Statue of Liberty" as soon as you lifted the bag of lavender. I laughed out loud with the microwave story, so was very glad I watched again, and more knitting was completed. 🙂

Pete’s socks are lovely and your quilt is going to be a treasured gift. I love family sayings and we have so many. My grandfather was from Manchester and he had short little jingles he would sing in his beautiful accent and so animated so we often burst out in song 😂

    Dear Pene!
Oh what a joy and many giggles this episode was for me! First of all, stunning quilt you're making! Absolutely stunning!
And the family sayings and stories, the little film from 2020, all of it is filled with such warmth and love, really enjoyed it.
Thank you so much for sharing all of that!
Your squirrels look so cute, have you made a squirrel yet? I've dyed some yarn specially to make a squirrel and I can't wait to start on it! I'd love to see more of the toys that you've made.
    Have a lovely weekend,

Family sayings! My brother had a friend round to play, thus is about 60 yrs ago. My mum said to the little lad would you like a cup of tea, he replied oh and a bit of bleeding cake 😂. So when you shout you want a cuppa tea, you reply yup and a bit of bleeding cake😂

Hi Penelope. The quilt-as-you-go quilt is so pretty and I am sure will be loved for many years. Your videos during lockdown must have been a great way to keep in touch. We kept in touch with the family with WhatsApp. Unfortunately in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, we were the most locked down place in the world. Thank you for sharing your trip to Standen House. I loved seeing all the beautiful textiles. A real treat. Thanks Penelope for another very entertaining chinwag. xx

Thanks Jacqueline, I'm looking forward to finishing the quilt. I must say I thought it would take me a lot longer. It's been good to look back at how I started. Hard to keep writing messages, I think I found it easier to have a chat and am so glad I did as it worked out well, especially for friends who were on their own.
Standen was beautiful with all the William Morris textiles and I couldn't believe the beautiful embroidery the family did, wonderful.
Thanks for putting my mind at rest - I worried the look back was too silly, but it was of its time and real!
      See you soon. xx

Thanks for sharing all that you do. When you do your video could you please show how you joined the squares in the final peicing; I know you said it was not a ladder stitch, but I have not grasped how you actually achieved that flat look seam. Thanks

Hi Kathy, I am going to do a video this week, not too long, just showing the technique I have found the best for me from start to finish. It has been a journey but I am so pleased with the finished result of the quilt. It feels like a traditional quilt, well I'll talk more next week hopefully, but I will show you. thanks for sharing. xx

Another enjoyable video. I just love the " I Spy " quilt, such wonderful fabrics. The socks are amazing. I knit a lot but have never been interested in making socks. I had to laugh at the " with confidence and balance " comment ! It was interesting to hear about how you began with youtube videos. From small acorns.....

      @penelopeschinwag  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi Marty It's true from small acorns, who would have believed it! I'm so pleased with the socks as they are quite grown up because of the wool and colour, just something different. Pete only wears knitted socks and I must say have helped his ankles since he was in hospital.
Confidence and balance is one of my favourites as well as 'I'm concentrating' now. Thanks for commenting, it makes a difference.

Hi penny, this is my second attempt,i must have pressed a wrong button,so if you get a second one from me,you’ll know why,I love your video on the COVID time, your mum looked great in the tea cosy as well as you,my family used a tea cosy, and we sat around drinking cup after cup,at morning tea time.I don’t even own one now. Your grandkids say wonderful things don’t they, I do remember my daughter saying, when she was about 2,she was “all gone sinished” I thought that was so cute. She is about to become a grandmother for the first time. The quilt that you are making for your great grandaughter is so beautiful, lucky little girl. The socks were amazing,I am in awe of anyone that can knit, those things. I laughed at when you couldn’t remember the Statue of Liberty, and when your mum had the tea cosy on, she did look like Ann Boleyn, another enjoyable video penny, thank you pamela hall.

Thanks Pamela, I have had kittens this morning wondering if it is was the right thing to share so I'm pleased you enjoyed it. I'm still using the tea cosy, we make a pot every morning, not tea bags either.
Glad it brought the memory back of your daughter's saying, takes us right back there doesn't it. You'll soon be a great grandmother how lovely.
So pleased you had a chuckle this morning. See you soon.
