  • I had a wonderful time visiting the Festival of Quilts a couple of weeks ago, here is a little look at the some of the quilts and the people I met. Chris English was really interesting and I was delighted to hear him talk about his work. Brandon Mably and Kaffe Fassett very generously talked to me about their work, how they design together and what they love about their fabrics. I met so many friendly people who enjoy this channel and I loved saying hello to so many of you! The Lime Green Sofa was there is spirit!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who enjoyed this video! I'm so pleased that you loved Chris English's quilts as much as I did. There is another taste of his wonderful brand of quilting over on Patreon on Friday. The Interviews with him and Kaffe and Brando were the highlight of my visit! Thank you to everyone who left a comment, I am overwhelmed by the response from you all! Much love, Kate xxx

WOW! What a wonderful video. So many beautiful creative quilts. I really am speechless. I do love hearing Kaffe and Brandon talk about their creative process. I just love Kaffe’s fabrics. And I love the fabrics you bought, Kate. They actually remind me of Kaffe’s colors. Can’t wait to see what you make with them. For SURE, you should put a quilt in the festival next year. The one you’ve made for your granddaughter is very beautiful…. Thank you, thank you Kate for your channel. xxx

Well first of all you open a quilt show with that absolutely fabulous Kitty I believe that's Rita so that's totally appropriate. The quilts, the quilts, the quilts!!! Colors and design and line imagination and then your interview at the end what a perfect video cake this is just been a delight.. if I didn't have $8,742 million projects going I would take up quilting.. but I'm 76 and I think that's about enough. Thank you again this was just an absolute delight and thank you Rita

I think I would have spent half the day just looking at the absolutely fantastic 'Girl with the Pearl Earring' That just blew me away. I love Kaffe Fassett's fabrics, but I couldn't live with them, if that makes sense. I can only have 'calmer' colours in my home. Chris was so interesting to listen to - back to the original concept of quilting. Oh please, please, take the lime green sofa to the next Festival. What a wonderful idea. Thanks for sharing your visit to the Festival of Quilts with us xx

There are quilts so perfect or so spikey they must be on the wall not the bed. Can't sleep under some of those. The personal ones that can't be reproduced, hand stitched and hand quilted... made to be slept under. Those are the ones made to be a loving hug. Chris's are full of sweet dreams, no pretention, enough to make a cat purr. Thanks, Kate, for bringing us with you. )))

Kate, I would like to let you know that you have given me freedom, or maybe more you have given my mind and emotions freedom. I just made a little gift for my granddaughter and I made it little bits at a time. I didn’t demand that I chug threw the project in one setting but rather I gave myself the ‘ok’ to do a bit here and a bit there. And guess what, I actually got it done almost 2 weeks ahead of my deadline, lol, and I am a horrible procrastinator. So thank you for sharing how you do a similar thing of a bit here, a bit there.
When you said here that you were going to make a quilt for ‘yourself’ I had to smile because I am doing the same. I am crocheting an Afghan throw for ‘myself’. I haven’t made something for me in quite a while and it is quite fun.
Thanks for sharing the quilt show, so many lovely things. 💕

Thank you so much yet again to a lovely Monday breakfast time here in South Australia. I have been doing a huge organising of my sewing room and found a bag with a thimble berry fabric block of the month, it was part of left over from a clearance sale of a quilting shop. There were 12 packets of pattern and fabric but not each month some repeated in different colour ways but had started it as a hand piecing project that came to a break several years ago with only 2months done when we had a beautiful grandaughter and I said I would have it made for her 21st but she is now 14 so must get moving. Whenever we visit our son I always take hand sewing, usually binding but yesterday restarted sewing this quilt, its call 3' Company copyright 2008. All those on TLGS hope you have your hand sewing and pass the apricot delights along. Blessings.

Kate, this was a BRILLIANT video. I must say that I truly enjoyed Chris English's interview. I know that Kaffe and Brando are famous for their textiles and I enjoyed their interview, but Chris' work was so organic and unplanned and well executed that it spoke to me more. Many of the fabrics in his quilt had a story, much like your quilted curtains. To me, that is what I would like my quilt to be like - a story waiting to be told. I love ❤️ your videos and your work. I purchased, for the first time, beautiful Liberty fabric (because of you) for my bedroom curtains that I want to make like the one that hangs in your home. Thank you for all the hard work you put into your videos for us. Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos that I'm behind in watching. I do that so I can binge-watch your videos, lol. ❤️

Sallee, I agree totally, as a newbie I am a little overwhelmed by some quilters and the rules etc., but also the cost of fabric, when he said he uses overalls and thrifted materials it made my day as that is what I want to do and I have a stack of fabric but was wary of using charity shop finds, now I can merrily stitch away both by hand and machine as the fancy takes me, and the randomness of some of his designs inspire me that I can maybe just maybe achieve something similar. I don’t think that those who like order and rigidity and repeat and new and designer fabric would be happy to buy one of his quilts or to even copy his style, but me, I am a fan, and as I can get designer fabric in clothes or duvet covers to add into the mix from charity shops I feel vindicated!

    • @loriar1027
      @loriar1027 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@debbie1_b I think his style of quilting is sort of the equivalent of modern art versus traditional or realistic art. There is value in the instinctive, semi-random way his were put together, and it definitely has a strong connection to the utilitarian roots of quilting. But I can also see why it might not appeal to everyone. Personally I’m more drawn to softer colors and more symmetrical patterns, but I imagine the quilts Chris made would be lovely and warm and comforting to snuggle up with.

I really enjoyed tagging along with you at the Festival. I especially enjoyed the segment with Chris English. His quilts are beautiful, and his process or free-form style of building a quilt was interesting.

What a great video. I was so pleased to see you and say hello. You are a very inspirational quilter. Can't wait to see what you do with your new fabric. Thank-you Kate.

Thanks for sharing your visit, Kate. Although I’m a traditionalist with color and patterns I was open minded enough to appreciate the showcase of the vibrant quilts that were featured here. I think you should enter next year! I was fortunate to receive a blue ribbon at our local fair for a mariner’s compass wall hanging I made. You never know…So glad I found you through Arne and Carlos. Cheers ☕️.

Kate, I got so excited to see you talk to Kaffe 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥰!!!!
Those quilts you showed with his fabric were simply exquisite and beautiful! I think the lime couch 🛋 at the quilt festival will be a big hit 👍🏼🫶🙋🏽‍♀️

The delightful idea of an LGS at the Festival of Quilts made me laugh out loud. If that should happen I'd be sorely tempted to fly from Canada with a pan-full of homemade brownies to pass along the LGS! Especially Kate, if you have a quilt or two entered into the festival. Please let us know far enough in advance so we can book our flight and hotel reservations!! 🙂 I'd love to have a chat with you!
Great episode, too! Wonderful interviews with Chris and KF & BM 🌞

What I liked best from a marvellously interesting video was how the bystanders face lit up when she realised whom she was talking to. I think that is how we all feel, all of us sitters on the lime green sofa. Interesting comment too about the simplicity of the design making the most of the pattern and colour of the materials, thanks Kate
