Thanks Pene. I love the idea of an “I Spy” quilt! I think I would like to make one for my little granddaughter. I enjoy listening to your story. Glad you escaped without injury when the shelf fell. Lovely video.
That was an enormously heavy cabinet put above my head! How I missed it I don't know but thankfully I did and lived to tell the tale! I think mum and dad were naive, probably the only place for it in a very small bedroom shared with my brother. My I Spy quilt is coming along nicely and Mila loves the one I made for her during lockdown. xx
I’m speechless with the wonderful quality of your work - everything you make to me looks so complicated yet you sail through it and it turns out wonderfully - first class - and loved the video - the hotel Looks lovely x
The quilts are all so beautiful you always do an amazing job, I never could knit really well, was always afraid of making a mistake and never could fix it. I do try and make something easy. You enjoy your day, and I will be watching for the next video. Take care. ❤❤🥰
You never cease to amaze me with your craft work. I love the idea of an eye spy quilt. I remember the jar of malt which came out every Friday evening the three of us lined up Mum ready with a spoon to feed us the horrid tasting us ‘medicine”. Thank you for sharing with us 😊
I love your story xx It brings sweet memories back to me of my childhood, I was born in 1956 and as soon as you mentioned the orange juice I could taste it! Keep them up, can't wait for the next instalment. Much love to you and Pete' Mandy xx
Your eye spy blocks are beautiful! You must have such a pretty fabric stash😍. I love the linen look fabric, nice colors that seem to.compliment the fabrics so well. Thanks for.sharing. the end clips are so relaxing, love the music selection.
Thanks Karen, I think my fabric stash blends well together because I always choose fabric I like and that always seems to be the same fabric palette, handy! So pleased you enjoyed the end clips and found time to relax with me. xx
Love the fabrics that you are using for the " I Spy Quilt ", lots of fun for you great grandson. Turns out we were born in the same year ! I too remember going to the clinic with mum & my 2 younger siblings.
Another great vlog Pen…..I can so relate to everything about your childhood, being the same age…especially Smiths crisps with the little blue salt bag!!!…thanks again for a trip down memory lane, and a look at all you wips….and your short breaks...thanks again x x x 🥰
Hi Penelope 👋 lovely to see you I do love all the crafts you make an I love the jumper you are knitting an looking forward to seeing when finished I also love your stories will look forward to your next vlog ❤x
I think the I-spy quilts could equally become story quilts because I’m sure that the imaginations of young children are very able to come up with little stories about the pictures - absolutely beautiful! I love Gilbert and Sullivan operettas - at secondary school I was in The Mikado and The Pirates of Penzance and loved every minute! Sullivan wrote some beautiful piano music, too. How wonderful to take us to the Arts and Crafts house! Thank you Pene. x
You're right Helen, lovely thought about the quilt. What fun to have been in the operettas at school. In the house you can imagine what fun they all had too. I wish there were more productions of them produced now. Glad you enjoyed the trip to the house. xx
What a delightful video, thankyou so much Pene. Your socks (well Pete’s!) and sweater are beautiful and I love those children’s quilts. Gilbert and Sullivan are great, the Mikado is my favourite, but I didn’t know about their history or the house. Thankyou for taking us along. Love to Pete. Xx
A wonderful video Pene. Loved all your various 'makes' and wish I could be as disciplined as you and keep my on going crafts to my craft table....that usually contains things I've dumped there to put away and my current sewing projects are in a row of bags in the living room 😕. It was lovely to hear that your grand children like to name all the items on the quilts. A great end to the video for me too, as I mentioned last week I love Coleton Fishacre, you were right to say it has a beautiful peaceful feeling to it. Just to finish with I have to say that the colour of the dress you were wearing today really suits you. Hope Pete is keeping well.
That made me laugh Lin, a table with things to put away. Happy to share Coleton with you. I love the dress too, it's a wee bit tight as I bought it a good few years ago and I'm so sad about it. Looking for a yellow dress, well I've never seen another one since. Pete is doing so well, getting out in the sunshine is smashing. Take care. xx
Hi Pene. I've waited all day to watch. I settled down with my epp project. I always called it a scrappy quilt. Now I'm going to call it my eye spy quilt. A perfect name for all the different hexagons. It's been on the go for about 4 years. I can only work on it for short periods as it soon hurts my hands. As soon as you mentioned Gilbert and Sullivan Andy's ears pricked up. He loves the operas and often listens in the car. The children grew up knowing lots of words. I hope you are both well and enjoying the sunshine. Take care. Xx
I love long term projects, like spending time with an old friend. So pleased Andy likes the operas, my girls likewise grew up hearing them. We're both fine and enjoying time with friends this week, the sunshine makes all the difference. Take care. xx
Pene another lovely video! What a beautiful idea, an I spy quilt! Can you show us one block as a tutorial please? The bunny socks are adorable and your sweater is gorgeous! Thank you for bringing joy to my Sunday evening💕
Wow! What a relaxing video, full of interesting & beautiful places. I’m so glad I found your channel a few weeks ago! As I was listening to you, I said to myself that “when I grow up, I want to be like Penelope”. Thank you for sharing the wonderful things you do, places you’re visiting and snippets of your personal story.❤ 🥰🥰🥰 Take care. Hugs from the 🇺🇸. 🌸tess
Hi Tess, thanks for joining me and enjoying my chatter. I do have a playlist of all the films that I make for the end of each episode and a playlist of the episodes if you would like to catch up with 'my life'. See you soon.xx
I love the sweater...just beautiful!!! Your decision to complete the sleeves was a good one. Your idea for an I Spy quilt is making me want to do the same. Your country is so beautiful and calls to my DNA that I was meant to be there. I have often wondered why the country lanes were so narrow. My first trip to England was with a genealogy tour and we traveled Kent by bus on those lanes which also included brick walls in places. I felt safe being in such a large vehicle, but am sure the locals hate those big vehicles and having to yield and even back up at times. Anyway...loved the whole episode once again.
Hi Marcia yes the sleeves are good. I have friends staying this week so the next sleeve will have to wait. Interesting about the country lanes wasn't it, makes sense. I remember you said your first trip was about the genealogy tour. Do it again and we could meet up!! Thanks for being there again. xx
Thank you Penny for coming into my home & reminding me of malt & cod liver oil, the thick orange juice which had such a weird taste, did it have iron in it I wonder oh & the rose hip syrup loved that. Smiths crisps yes the blue twirly wrapped salt packets loved those too. Nothing like crunching into a crisp sandwich! Hope to see you again soon. Dianne 🧶
Hi Diane, I wonder if that taste was iron, it was certainly an unusual flavour. Mum always diluted it with. hot water, so a long warm orange juice with brown sugar was enjoyed. Oh that rose hip syrup I'd buy bottles of it if I could. We laughed at the memory of a crisp sandwich, we had them too, yup happy days. xx
Love your story I was born in 1951 and your description of NHS cod liver oil reminded me of us having a spoonful of cod liver oil and malt off a desert spoon 😣
Pene it’s like a visit to a quilt show just lovely to see them all. I’m doing EPP in the garden beautiful weather currently in the SE 🙏🏻. Another wonderful episode 😊
Hello there, What memories you have brought back! I was born in 1951 but I clearly remember the orange juice in the blue topped bottle and the malt extract with Mum winding it around and around on the spoon, delicious. But I have another memory and I can still taste it, when I bit into a cod liver oil capsule...... disgusting. My brother was 4 years younger than I was and it must have been around 1960 when we were first taken to the Gilbert and Sullivan comic operas. My parents had a friend who was usually the comic figure in the performance and we would be amazed at how he could remember all his words and sing them so quickly. I remember them so clearly and so fondly. Thank you for all the memories. Ruth x
Hi Ruth, yes I remember winding and winding to try and get it all on the spoon, it was delicious. Yuk, cod liver oil, I never had that but can imagine. So pleased to have brought back memories of Gilbert and Sullivan. I'm amazed at how anyone can remember the words and then sing so quickly, what fun for you. xx
Love seeing all your quilts. Your family is very lucky to have a mom, grand mom, and great grand mom who shows her love with her skills in making. Your story, as always, is a privilege to hear, and learned something new about Gilbert and Sullivan.
Hello Pene, I love your bidets do much and especially your stories. I could listen to you for hours! The new quilt you're working on is my favorite. I think. I also enjoy hand embroidery and that small block you made is wonderful! I'm just a year younger than you and I think it's wonderful that you make so many beautiful things. I can crochet but never learned how to knit. Hugs to you and Pete. Phyllis
Oh my gosh, so much talent! Just happened to stumble upon your channel and am amazed at all you have done. What I would give to knit like you do. The socks and sweater are amazing. I am working on a quilt as you go 2 1/2 x 5 brick pattern but was taught a different way to finish the corners. They aren’t mitered as yours are and don’t have a clean look as do yours. Would there be any chance to show your viewers how you do that? It leaves such a nice and tidy look.so glad I found you.
Well welcome and you're in luck because the last episode is 120 and I do just that, show you how I do the corners etc. Enjoy. There is a playlist of my life over the last three years if you fancy it! Welcome again. xx

I am now inspired to start knitting socks. I have purchased some WYS owl yarn. I haven’t started them yet. How do you split your yarn so that the stripes match?
Hello Mary, How lovely you have been inspired to knit animals, what fun. With the stripey yarn I start one sock at the beginning of a colour, even if it means cutting a length of yarn off. Then when I start the second sock I know to start with the same colour, cutting a length of yarn off to make them even. I haven't made owl. -- yet! Thanks for sharing. xx
