    I disagree that these bottles have no value; these types of bottles routinely sell for $5 to $15 in flea markets.

    They are all valuable to whomever is interested in and willing to pay for. Maybe just for a memory is enough. Depends on the area you live some people won't have certain bottles where they live.

      Mauri Wade Don't get discouraged with this video. The auction houses don't want cheaper bottles because they aren't going to make a lot of commission on a $5 Ball mason jar. Collect what appeals to you, regardless of how much it's worth . Happy collecting!!!

    I've been collecting bottles in Australia for 40 years and most of the ones you've shown are just not to be found over here. Some are, of course. I could prepare a similar list of rejectables for our country, which goes to show that where you live is an important factor in considering rarity. That being said, don't send me any Lea and Perrins, or 3 in 1 oils. They made it here by the shipload.

    remember to collect the bottles you like!! they may not be worth much money, but they can have personal value. this video was just made to show what auctioneers are looking for, because these bottles are more common. :)

    one thing to mention is that there were local companies and makers that were only able to make and distribute their product, or "the thangs" inside the bottle, locally. old hutch sodas and pharmacy medicines are pretty well known for this. i can probably find a bottle here that would be absolutely impossible to find anywhere else

    Hello, I just joined your channel. I would like to ask you a few questions I live in a old farm house and in the cellar I have a window that looks under the porch I believe anyway I saw a bunch of bottles sticking up so I had my grandson climb in there and I got 5 1 gl bottles but 1 is what I would like to ask about it a 1 gl basket weave but on the front there’s a clear square good size almost the whole front any idea what that would be? I also found the biggest Atlas mason jar with top but the metal piece that holds the top has rotted away and quite a few others one of the 5 gl has the round lip oh I didn’t state there jugs. What I did love was one of the wine bottles has a green and amber color on it looks like a mistake but I love it and oh a quart size clear Newport root beer have you heard of that? Now this house was built in 1912 so I believe they may be 100 years old some of them there are two milk of magnesium blue which I read are from the 50’s not sure about that I’ve looked at the line that runs up and they all go to the top except for one wine bottle also is there anything to do for the glass sickness? I’m actually still cleaning the inside with the degreaser soaks inside. Sorry so long just got excited because I love bottles have a bunch of little ones I’ve had for years ink wells colics and so on. I also do crafts in bottles but I don’t know if anyone would be interested in buying these so I don’t know if I should use them for that can you lmk what you think of that as well. But I’m really curious about the weaved one. Ty for any replies.

    I think the Hires Root Beer is the best of these cheapies, for appeal, and as a conversation piece.. Not much value as he says, because they are common. But at least they do have embossing, can date to 1890's or so, and are part of American soda history, as far as Root Beer goes. . Sounds like it would be worth a couple bucks to me just for those reasons..

      RJ Walker In Oregon there are highly sought after. All the damn yuppies from California moved up here an buy from detectorists an diggers.They pay better then antique shops an ebay .

    • @rjwalker6677
      @rjwalker6677 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's interesting, but I can understand it. To the casual collector, that embossed Hires bottle from 1890's would seem to have value. I was surprised myself it was so cheap. I'm a casual collector in the sense that I mainly collect only 2 names of bottles, but for those 2 names I am expert, and probably more knowledgeable than anyone else in the world on them. (Schweickert and Baas bottles). I collect them because of a family connection with both names. My great great grandfather started the Schweickert bottling company in 1876 and after 1916 another relative of mine named Baas took it over. It's the only reason I am into bottle collecting at all. Digging for bottles looks like hard and dirty work to me, but I guess it must be fun too, because you never know what you might find !

    I like some of the Lea & Perrins knockoffs, Holbrook, Stephens Son. Some are probably rare. I dug a San Francisco pickle jar, listed as around ten known-in 1980 or so. I think some rare stuff is not so valuable too. Auction for $50-? If is a prize in my collection regardless. Elko, Nevada Cokes are way good, dug a base once, My only Christmas Coke is a Reno from that site. As collectibles, bottles can be inflated by publicity-magazine articles &c. Some really common bottles have a pretty set medium value, as everybody wants at least one. Localism is a factor too, especially in pharmacies and sodas.
