Was the brake holding it if so u can release some tension from the rear to access the tensioner. Made it easy. My axle nut was 30 mm on and 07. I am dealing with the snap ring popping followed new install. Snug the new nut. Spun the NEW drum counter clockwise 10 times while torque to 174ft lbs. The next day noise. Pulled tire 1/2 inch gap took off nut and drum looked inside the snap ring that was factory installed was popped out and the bearing moved in that eztra 1/2 in. I rest the bearing installed the snap ring. Used my other new nut. Same procedure. Next day same thing happened. Not sure if this China made drum is defective from Autozone DuraLast or theres an issue with the hub. I dont see anything like burs or damage but this is odd to happen. I did the other side with a AC delco and no issue in 5 years. This Dura last is a replacement under warranty and its not working. I just dont know how to know if defective or not. But ive already had 2 failures in 2 days with proper torque and installation. Anyone have a thought. If defective ill remove and take back i hope they honor it again becasue nuts are 16 bucks where i am for 1 already went through 2 in 2 days as you can reuse them.
Did you compare old with new? Sometimes there can be slight difference s.
@@GarageMahalStuff they have Autozone here so its a Duralast under warranty the 1st one last less than a year bearing seized. This time goes on flush tighten then spin cc 10x then torque to spec. Doesnt hold. 3 locking nuts later this last time the tire came off. Tonight. The drivers side is an Ac Delco and I put that on and no issue 5yrs already.
Had car towed taking the wheel off drum and returning the drum as defective 3x and something isnt right. Maybe the axle. Ill inspect it in the daylight further. I clean it and chdcked for any noticeable damage but im not an expert just diy. I may even skip return and just get another Ac delco drum. Thx.
Update went with another AC Delco drum w bearing. Its been a few days since install no issues so far. Now onto the front suspension. Someone hit vehicle while parked bent tierod and control arm and snapped the swaybar link. Thats tomorrow's project.
What kind of grease to put on the spindle?
I like using this stuff amzn.to/3r9ToWr long lasting
Can you replace the bearing on it's own?
I mean, you can... but I would replace it all.
Then you’ll have to pay someone to use their press, makes sense to use that money and invest in a new drum
