Yup agreed, she can used 1 whole room to keep all her shoes and yet to mentioned there’s no storage, using the common bathroom as one, omg”’ I think likely she doesn’t like guests to be in her house that’s why common toilet becomes storage purposes😂😂
$120,000/year available in the budge for rent but still outacontrol/random boxes and cases in piles plus a shoe-room... it's kind of endearing... nope, we don't have it together.
8000 a month was the best. but the last apartment was well designed and cosy. The guy was great. i used to live in HK and when I rented a place on Pokfulam road opposite HKU where i was studying, we preferred an old apartment rather than the brand new ones as it was so much bigger

I’m craving this aesthetic, it inspire me so fucking much I’m a painter but now I want to do interior design ALSO that place would make an amazing decor for a movie or something
I don't know why, because it goes against all logic, but I liked the smallest apartment the most. Even though It's way too small for me, it felt the most homely. The big apartments felt cold and impersonal to me If I could have the final apartment, but magically make it triple the size, I think it would definitely be perfectly liveable for me.
@AndoCommando1000 I think the same way as you. It was cozy and the two others were not. The first apartment was a nightmare for me, too much white and no life in it. The second was okay inside with a great view outside but the third was amazing although it was too small. 🤩
I actually know HK and it would be useful if Caleb had also shown where the first 2 apartments were. For that rental cost, my guess is that both apartments 1 and 2 are outside the urban area. Otherwise, the rent would be much higher for the size of those 2 apartments Also, all 3 apartments are set up for single people, not families. I guess this is the demographic of Caleb's audience? But it means that the apartments that are shown are not typical for HK
I love the last apartment the most because it was really cozy although it really is a bit too small. The first apartment was too white for me. The woman was dressed in white, the furniture were white, the bathroom white, that is too much white for me and not cozy. The second apartment was a bit too big for me but I loved the view outside. I like smaller rooms and more rooms in an apartment, not one or two big rooms.
Native Hongkonger here, don’t think this video gave the fair view of living environment in Hong Kong . You only cherry-picked the luxe ($8000-10000) of flat 1&2 then jump down all the way to lower end to flat 3 ($900)? Whilst there are lots middle class or upper middle class in between living in private housing / buildings. To give an idea average rent is between usd 4-6 per square foot and from our government report the average rent is usd$1686 per month. I pay $2100 a month for a 550sq ft flat, 40 mins by metro to the city centre and my friend has the same size flat in the very city centre paying $3200.
If he rents it for $8,000 a month how is he able to revamp the entire place? I was just wondering how that worked it is allowed to do that kind of construction or if he owns the apartment but it says $8,000 month
I want to see more NYC studio apartments. I need some ideas when it comes to division of space. Because I've been living in one for almost a year and I still can't figure out how to properly design this space.
I like the sound mixing here where Caleb was largely placed in the left channel and the person being interviewed was on the right. The 3rd guy is hilarious - how else do I wash the bed? 😂
i think the last apartment is around the average of space each person has in hong kong as the average is like 150, 160sq. foot per person. But i think a lot of lower class people has way smaller space. That definitely looks like a 2 person flat to me. I like how he still makes the space cozy. Not sure if the bed was his or was the owners'. Would prefer a single person bed so that there could be a gap between the shower and the bed or else it sounds pretty bad to get the bed wet especially in such a humid weather like now (and also with laundry hanging indoor). The sink looks super small, especially for a caucasian man that tall >
I guess you can do whatever you want with your own apartment, but using a $10,000/month apartment like that feels almost insulting to people who can barely afford more regular priced rent 😢 Like please better utilize this expensive thing you have instead of just throwing your luggage in the extra bathroom.
I guess over 90% of the HK citizens won’t able to afford the rent of apartment 1 and 2, for me, only apartment 3 can catch my attention and showing the reality of local HK ppl living environment 😢
usually this kind of flats have shared machines and dryers. even not there are plenty of washing areas for very cheap prices. also its so humid and hard dry clothes by hanging.
9:48 - “you can take a shower, and use the bathroom, and sleep all at the same time” 😂😂 this reminds me of my friends cracking on my studio space years ago.
J'ai aucune idée comment c'est à Paris - peut-être que tu peux m'apprendre un truc :) J'assume les appartements et les studios sont bien chers là-bas aussi ? Salutations d'Allemagne ;D
So, looking at the first people and their expensive apartments, then looking at the guy in the $900 hole, you actually get a sense as to why he's living there and others are living where they are.
First of your videos I found after reading about your videos in the Washington Post today. I have rented many apartments. First In Bloomington, IN 1985 600 Sq feet/1 bedroom $200. 1988 in Artington VA 400 SQ FT studio $400 was sticker shock (less space, twice as much $ as Indiana). Then 600 Sq feet/1 bed in Falls Church, VA 1990-97 went from $450-$520. Then rented a 900 Sq ft (3 small bedsrooms) house back in Arlington 1997-2000 $800-$850/month. Then I bought a house. Lived there 15 years. Went back to renting in 2015 and sticker shock again. Ended up with 1000sq ft condo (2 bedrooms +bonus loft) for $1400/month. That was actually larger for less $ than other places I'd looked at. 2022 bought the condo from my landlady.
Lol, the last guy. "So how big is your bed?" Um, I dunno. I just measured it like this and went to Ikea...I think its a king"...made me literally bust a gut! My man, that is a super single ...multiply by 3 and you have yourself a king bed :)

Hey Caleb, just watched this vid this morning, very interesting & a bit worrisome about Hong Kong just how tiny people are willing to live. As to your question where I would love to see you explore where people live I have a couple of requests, with one being here in the U.S. I have a request for down in my birth state of Florida Keys, mainly because I’ve noticed on some websites that as their is naturally less land and because of rising sea levels the Florida Keys have literally started building condo communities literally as docks (I’d love to see how that is working out especially during Hurricane season is coming soon). I have two future summer Olympic cities I’d wish you’d explore not only housing but also apartments, one would be for 2024, Paris, France, the for 2032, Brisbane, Australia. I’m also very curious about the following cities: Cape Town, South Africa, Casablanca and Marrakech, Morocco, Barcelona, Spain, Sofia, Bulgaria, Budapest, Hungary, Prague, Czech Republic, Antwerp and Brussels, Belgium, and Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland. Thank you.
The first one kinda made me mad😂 no storage? The entire place is wide open. Fills a whole bathroom with clothes and has an empty room of shoes😂😓
I was thinkin same exact thing.. entire room not being used lol

She has storage for her shoes thank Jeebus
“yeah we’re using our shower for storage because there’s not a lot of storage space”
“anyway so here’s my room dedicated entirely to shoes”
Ya I’m still mulling over that one. Lol.
Yeah that's pretty unhinged not gonna lie.
Office space? Nah. Guest bedroom? Nah. Shoe room... Oh yeah.

Yeah, some people have pretty skewed priorities.
I honestly love the tiny apartments the most because it really brings out the creativity in people
😂 Loved the last apartment! That guy was adorable. The shower scene was hilarious. I LOL’d for real.
Will you shower with that adorable guy in that apartment?
Love the teeny apartment with the occupant with a huge sense of humor. Really efficient use of space.
The 3rd one should be what every tiny New York apartment should look like. that wasn't bad and it looked actually pretty nice and modern and clean.
That sliding door is really neat and inspirational
