I am wondering if in the future we see a spherical controller. This means the two joysticks with be 2 pads and the triggers may be planted . 😮 So you will carry a ball with a diameter 10-12 cm.
For those saying this is a good alternative to the steam controller... lolno. From people who have used it, I've heard that the ShotPad: - has a low quality trackpad - has no gyro - emulates kbm only; the stick is 8 way wasd, not an actual analog movement stick - no binding customization Its always funny to see companies/individuals see the steam controller, think its cool, try to make an alternative, but they completely miss the mark on why the steam controller is cool to begin with so their alternative product is really lackluster. The only upside to the ShotPad is that you can use it consoles... but only on games that support kbm on consoles, which isnt all of them.
You can also use Joy2Key for mapping keyboard inputs to a controller. I'm using it to play old DOS games on my Steam Deck and now the GPD Win 2. The latter also having a mouse sensor (might work even better than the SD touch pads, but still can't compare to a proper mouse and its location is worse than the SD touchpads) plus a physical keyboard opens even more possibilities. This controller in the video might be nice to play PC games on the couch, but I would need a different tool (don't think Joy2Key works with mapping to something that is recognised as keyboard and mouse instead of as a controller) to be able to remap keys for older games that don't offer key remapping. Something I was sad about discovering with the Steam controller is that when using it ingame as a _controller_ the track pad worked _almost_ like a mouse. (Unlike when using the controller as a _keyboard_ which made the touch pad work as expected. But when using it as a controller, you could mess with the steam settings to make the track pad have mouse-like movements, but ultimately it was still limited by the game's parameters for movement scaling on a thumb stick. Meaning, the motions between slow to fast were too narrow and limited. It sort of felt like a deadzone where dragging your thumb really slowly or slightly slowly resulted in the same ingame turn speed. It makes sense, since your using a touch pad within the limits of a thumb stick. (Again, only when you set steam to recognize the steam controller as a _console controller_ ) But its still sad. I was hoping I'd be able to use the steam controller to get Halo's aim assist buffs on a track pad. XD More to the point of this vid, I feel like this DarkWalker Shotpad controller would result in more or less the same issue if you tried to get the game to recognize it as a controller and not a keyboard.
Dude, the key to the steam controller is the gyroscope. Use the trackpad at high sensitivity for larger looking around movements, but do most of your actual aim with the gyroscope. You can even have two different gyro sensitivities if you use trigger dampening. For example, I use a pretty high base gyro sensitivity, then right trigger soft pull dampens it 50%, one allows for close range response, and the other allows for long range precision. Then the full pull is bound to fire. You can configure this how it works best for you, but don't sleep on the gyro. It's probably the best controller input option for shooters. We shouldn't want aim assist, we should want good inputs.
Your first issue is that you’re using the trackpad for aiming. It’s meant for quick swiping if you need to change directions quickly. If you’ve ever played Kid Icarus Uprising on the 3DS it’s sorta like that where you swipe quickly across the screen to move the camera. What you should be aiming with is gyro, like Splatoon or Doom on Switch. The other thing is, this should be recognized as a keyboard+mouse by pretty much any software. As such, I can’t imagine a situation like the one you’re describing. The CoD example he showed seemed just unlucky
and that was still pretty old tech, trackpads have gotten extremely advanced and what valve can do with it would be a sight to see, as long as they don't make them tiny like the idiotic series controller dimensions
I guess you don't know much about anything if you're talking about trying to use a trackpad for better control and also talking about aim assist. The whole reason to aim assist exists is because controllers are not accurate compared to a trackpad or mouse. Having aim assist on while using the trackpad will just mess up your control

Has anyone used this with a docked Steam Deck? Maybe the wireless version would be useful for games that would normally require M+K like RTS games or if you can get used to the wonky FPS controls. Plus, the Steam Deck has remapping in-built regardless of game. I'm using a Chinese knock-off PS4 controller currently but I'd be down to try it if it didn't cost $60 for the wireless version.
Mobile gamers will love this controller for sure. It's literally bringing mobile fps controls to PC (but you get physical buttons and left analog). This is pretty cool- and since I already own a Xim apex: if I got this I could remap all those garbage presets to make the thing waaaaaay more intuitive. :)
Since my experience with the Steam Deck (I didn't have the Steam Controller and just bought one recently), I'm always enthusiastic about new gamepad paradigms.
But a *wired* controller (instead of wireless + USB cable) and no gyroscope? Nah, maybe next time.
EDIT: I saw another version of this gamepad that has gyroscope and is wireless. Now we're talking.
The main reason for this in my opinion is playing pc games that aren't designed for using a controller
This is something I’m def interested in
It's pretty nice
Hope Openjkdf2 controls good with this
(Jedi knight dark forces 2)
This seems neat but I wouldn’t personally use it in any kind of “competitive” environment. I also don’t game competitively often so maybe someone who owns this and plays more competitively can chime in
To me that looks like a controller and a phone mix
Thank you man for providing this classy and wonderful content
TOUCHPAD GAMING
I love controllers so I might just give this a try
Does it have bluetooth version?
So there is no button remapping?
Hold Fn & Then Press Esc For Enter Input.
The new keyboard for PC and keyboard users
how is the responsiveness on touch pad compared to gaming mobile screen?!
I reckon this controller might be better for platformers or RPGs. Or for probably for people who don't do mouse and keyboard well due to mobility . But I don't think it's ideal for shooters where keyboard and mouse are the top.
