    just so you know CGC does NOT disclose if a comic has been cleaned or pressed, (they offer the service before you submit the book, and as long as the book doesn't have any color touches, trimmed, or paper added, it will get a blue label). If the comic has had color touches, paper added, edges trimmed etc it will get a purple label and if the comic is missing a page or if a coupon has been clipped, it will receive a green label.

    • @collectapaul
      @collectapaul 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Water and solvent use, if detected can also trigger a purple label. CGC have it listed as ‘Some cover or interior cleaning (water or solvent)’ and there are examples out there of this happening. They’re inconsistent at best though like you’d expect with most of the grading companies.

    do people realize the paper made over 70 years ago is not same as today, so adding chemicals to the card can be doing more harm than good! same with chrome cards, do people know what chemical these card companies used to make them and now your adding chemicals not knowing the effect down the road to the card. any collector who has been collecting over period of time have seen chrome cards start to break down as the color runs and that doing nothing to them.

    The next problem here goes back to pre-controversy as nobody should be trusting any grading made after those kits went to sale. Of course the trading companies are the ones that need to provide a certificate that the cards were not altered but this is extremely difficult because certain chemicals I have used to remove discoloring in prints and papers restoration (art) either evaporate or leave no traces. It is going to be difficult for PSA to provide a certificate. Then the next issue becomes what does PSA do with pre certs slabs? Do they regrade them for free? Kurt's cream has done irreparable damage to the business.

    They would need every little bit of info on how the cards are made and how the layers are printed including the micron depth of the top layer of card as well which would vary anyways. There will probably never be a 100% way of catching people who polish cards.

  • @G0ATMANJAR0
    @G0ATMANJAR0 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I’m sure that if they soak or polish these cards with chemicals there has to be some sort of infrared light system that can pick up under a specific spectrum. Kind of like how forensic teams find blood stains after they’ve been wiped clean from surfaces or how you can shine a black light on bedsheets to see if someone has Kurt creamed their bed.🤣🤣🤣

  • @le_med
    @le_med 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The only thing I sometimes do to my cards (MTG) is to humidify them a bit to flatten them if they have a slight bent...and that s it. Never had to alter any pokemon cards. Also I instantly perfect fit any card I pull out of a pack even if they are commons printed in the billions so I never have to manipulate the look of a card. When I buy bulk sometimes there are surface stains on the foil that can be removed with deionized water and a special cloth but that s it.
    This controversy also exists in coins collecting. You never ever polish a coin to make it shinny you leave the crap on it as that gives it more value.

The only disclosure comes from those against the practices that have to find this stuff after the fact. Until the pro-cleaning/restoration crowd gets grading companies on board with what they are doing is deception plain and simple.

    I come from the car world where we are always wet sanding and polishing paint to remove scratches and swirls. It's the same theory for the process but I do understand that you can never add the material back to the card like where you can re-paint a car. I am not sure how to feel about this honestly. If someone told me tomorrow that one or some of my cards were polished, my main concern would be like ok is this stuff going to yellow over time or wrinkle the card if it gets too hot or something. It's possible that the intensions change my opinion. Taking one of my old childhood cards and polishing it a little to reverse the 8 year old me scratches and put on the shelf, eh. Someone buying a semi damaged card for $50 from a kid to polish it and flip a profit, a bit worse but again, that's exactly what people do with cars. For reference I've never bought the product, never thought about buying the product and I don't know which side of this I stand on.

    Alright so you get the cards cleaned for yourself, the corners, the surface, the holo..You plan on keeping these in your collection forever. Your collection your rules, very fair. I firmly believe in the inevitability of chaos - someone passes away, you almost die in a car accident, you loose your job...Something shit is bound to happen in your life. Your strapped for cash and then what do you do? You may have to sell off some of your collection - which have been cleaned and altered. Do you inform the individual or individuals your selling to that you have done this? Truthfully we just don't know - I think that is the issue here. If everyone was honest, then great! For the most part people are not - especially those that want to turn a hefty profit. Personally I would never want a card that is altered and it's TERRIFYING to me that I could be purchasing ones that are and may have already done so without knowing. Also, this dude really rubbed me the wrong way when he started talking about how this is cancel culture - As someone who experienced cancel culture and how it literally effected my entire life for something I didn't even do. To use that as a way to say what you're doing isn't an issue (and having such a lack of clarity) really shows a lot about their character. Now, the actions of people online can be extremely toxic and don't get me wrong there is a lot of idiots out there but I definitely think that when it comes to transparency it is imperative for others to be informed so they can make a decision on what is best for their own collection and what they want to purchase. When you eliminate this - and don't provide that option then you're part of the problem. Good on PSA for putting their foot down, I hope other grading companies do the same - and there is something in place for this.

    • @JediMasterT
      @JediMasterT 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I pretty much agree with what you said...which is why I'm not commenting myself.
      The issue we have honestly is that I just got back into the hobby a couple years ago and I just found out about this card care stuff maybe 5-6 months ago...CGC/PSA/BGS have all been grading cards that have been altered. They have even graded trimmed cards, let's not be naive to the fact that they are grading all forms of alteration.
      I've come to accept that this is just the nature of the beast that is collecting TCG cardboard. People have been, and will continue to buy banged up cards, grease them up and sell them as higher amounts in PSA/CGC/BGS cases. The tech isn't implemented to stop it from happening. That's just the reality of the situation. It was a big bummer for me when I first realized this stuff existed because at the end of the day it diminishes a lot of the collector allure around having these cards in high grades...it will always be present in my mind if I bought a high graded vintage card ( was this one altered ).
      There has been a lot of stuff released by Rattle himself that diminishes the collecting appeal of Pokémon cards. CGC cases easily cracked and replaced with lesser cards. Alterations removing scratches on the holo. Theft of the top hits from the factory. All these things make me not want to collect anymore. So we either just accept that it's the ugly side of collecting or we leave the hobby.

    • @BillieandRubixPokemon
      @BillieandRubixPokemon 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JediMasterT I think it's imperative to have knowledge available so we can make an informed decision on what we are comfortable with - which is exactly what rattle does. His videos are the most detailed and informative content you can find specifically for pokemon. It's also not meant to be easily absorbed but rather truthful and what you do with this information is up to your person. Also, buying the card and not the grade really plays a role here. More often then not if you have the experience you can tell when something has been miss-graded or trimmed. This is especially important as you evolve as a collector and are looking at higher end items. Now, with these specific alterations happening, it's a lot harder to spot- which is the biggest issue. We also don't know the long term effects this will have on the card itself. I personally prefer knowing this information - then not knowing.
