5:25 !!! U SAVED MY LIFE, DIDN'T REALIZE I COULD SET ALL this UP IN MY GARAGE. WHILE POWERED UP and CONNECTED TO TRANSDUCER. I THOUGHT ALL this HAD TO BE DONE WHILE ON the WATER !!! In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens th-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

I use a Scotty transducer arm which is attached to the Kayak on a track. My depth finder is on a mount which attaches to the top of the scotty transducer arm. The mount lets me adjust (turn and angle) the depth finder, The track lets me adjust how close or far away everything is. The transducer arm can extend or collapse allowing for adjustments. Additionally, the transducer arm discs let me adjust the angle in the water or quickly pull out of the water in case I am in some vegetation.
Ive been contemplating buying one for a while now. I have a $10 rebate for menards and with then doing the 11% rebate now, ill get another $11 back. My problem is that if i don't pull the trigger right now, i wont do it. $119 on amazon with next day shipping or $90ish at menards!!!??? Maybe ill stop by before work tomorrow! Thanks for the video! I bought it on Menard's Web site for $90 and a $9.90 rebate. There was shipping and handling, but still way cheaper than anywhere else I've seen. Can't wait to get it installed and get on the water!
Mark Boyd hey be careful with the one from Menards. It doesn't come with the transducer or the CHIRP HD technology upgrade. Those are extra purchased separately, that's why it's so cheap. I was gonna buy mine from there too until I realized.

This is one the best reviews I have seen for this Garmin. I have a question. My dad has a bass boat with fish finders. I can never figure out which way anything is pointing. The screen does not put the location of structure into relationship with the boat or the direction. Maybe it is me.
For the most part what you are seeing is directly below you with this type of fishfinder. If you are in 20' of water and have the finder set at 200 mhz the cone is only about 7' wide at the bottom, so almost directly under the boat. At 83 mhz the cone is about 20' wide, but again it doesn't go very far to either side.

Thanks for subbing. If the Garmin doesn't work out, check the review I did on the Hawkeye fish finder. It uses AAA batteries, and the transducer has a floatie so you can just let it float by the boat or kayak. That's what I used last year for my small 2 man bass boat.
Just get a battery for a fire alarm they are about 15 bucks on line you can then use a piece of steel plate on the bottom bracket and a good strong magnet in the hull work great and lets it pull off if you hit something in shallow water. best of luck

Thanks for the video. I am looking into one of these or similar. Do you think they would be able to locate a small boat motor in about 40 feet of water. I dropped mine off the back of the boat and would love to find it again. Do they pick up metal/aluminum? I am looking at one it says it has " CHIRP ClearVu scanning sonar" do you think it would work?

turdsandwicher try useing a magnet they have a bunch on Amazon I use a 405lbs pulling power one I have pulled in boat anchors be sure to get a rope to match your magnet hope this helps

It runs on 12 volt so any 12 volt battery will power it.

The transducer that goes in the water is not very big. It's square, and maybe slightly larger then an ice cube. It should have about 20' of cord attached to it. There should also be a bracket that attaches to it where a person can attach it to a trolling motor, which you probably won't be using with a kayak. Perhaps your box is missing some parts. Hope that helps.
Do you know how to do a hard reset? My unit flashes the name GARMIN but won't turn on... Ordered it on amazon, so now I can't go back into a store. :/

The lower cost Striker 4 does not do down view scan, but I've been told there is a higher priced Striker 4 that will do down view.

This works great for me on my kayak. Bought it at Bass Pro with a military discount. Was going to use an transducer arm until I watched a video on a magnetic transducer mount. I like it a lot. A fish finder that doesn't show fish. My Garmin240 showed fish and depth and size. I cant figure this new Stricker out for the life of me. Sending it back to amazon with a poor report
it can be configured to show fish icons rather than sonar, but it is imperfect and you should learn to read the sonar...not that difficult
