      Awesome, it always makes my day to hear comments like this. Are you using a Garmin Striker 4 by chance? If so, here is a little trick...use the flasher as a portion of your screen on the right hand side, and look in the lower corner...it tells you about how big your cone is.

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, make sure you have the flasher on the side enabled, and then look in the lower right corner, you should see a number and that number should be your cone diameter. The Garmin will tell you your cone angle, but many others do not. Hope you enjoy your Striker 4 I know I love mine, also be sure to check out my other Garmin Striker videos and as always if you have a questions feel free to ask, I will do my best to answer them

    I have 2 questions:
    1. Does the 15 degrees and the 45 degrees are fixed by garmin transducer?
    2. Are those degrees related to the transducer parallel to the water surface?
    3. Does the garmin transducer broadcast the two frequencies simultanusely?

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see 3 questions :)
      1. Yes they are fixed angles
      2. Yes the transducer must be parallel to the surface to function properly
      3. Yes you can select Split Frequency Sonar mode.

    Your content is really useful. Thanks for sharing. I’d like to use a striker 4 mounted on the transom of my 23ft sailboat as a marine electronics budget option. As an old boat, I don’t have electronic depth sounder. Will I’ll be able to know the structures like rocks ahead or it’s only able to see the bottom straight under the transducer?

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It will only see what is under the transducer...If you want a better option for what's up ahead, I would buy a higher end Echomap model and add a updated mapping card. The mapping card will have local water depths and most hazards marked.

    Hi there. I have the 5cv. This frequency I understand, I fish in a lake where the deepest is 120 ft deep, but I use CHIRP 77 khz for a bigger cone, but it’s the sensibility I have more trouble with. I usually set it to auto medium, but we get some parasites (lot a algae and weed in that lake)

    Thanks again Paul for these awesome tips. Which transducer would you recommend for the striker 4cv unit,I plan to fish at 1500ft max at sea. I don't have the resources to do a full upgrade but it would be nice to get a transducer that can go the depth or close to that dept.

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So I always want to be as honest as possible with my opinions on questions like this.
      I personally would use the GT20 that comes with the 4CV, it is a upgrade over the standard transducer already. The truth is, even though the transducer may say a max depth of 1500ft, that is perfect conditions...that never really exist. Normally transducers are functional to about 1/2 to 3/4 of the advertised Max Depth. Sure they will go deeper, but I think performance starts to suffer. As for a new transducer, you will spend 200+ on a higher end transducer, more than the fish finder itself. I would save for a larger unit with a bigger screen for those depths over a new transducer. The bigger screen will help much more IMO for seeing targets, especially at those depths.

    Love the video. And now I will show my ignorance: is 'tan' a constant value? If not, how do you determine the value tan. You need it to solved the formula Diameter = Depth x 2TAN (Angle/2). Depth and Angle are obvious...But you still need the TAN variable...How do you figure that? Sorry...I forgot my 10th grade math! Thanks to anyone who can clarify for me. Again, great video!

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Look on the calculator on your phone for Tan....you may have to hold it sideways to get more calculator functions, but it should be there. It is just a geometrical thing to help calculate.

    (1) As sonar is running right to left, which is right side of boat and which is left -- top or bottom? (2) Is there a way to determine about how far behind the transducer the fish is after leaving the cone?

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the major downfall of only 2d sonar...these things are very hard to determine. Now with the new side imaging, down imaging, and 360 imaging, you can answer all these questions.

    I'm new to this technology for ice fishing, so how do I determine the definition of shallow vs deep when I'm fishing on a lake? Or should I use duel screen to determine which mhz is right for me?

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tend to call 50-75ft deep. You can also use both and see which works for you best. The good news is that on the ice there are less variables such as boat or wave motion to fight as well

    I have a question regarding deep and shallow water which you often talk about . What depth range would refer to when talking about deep or shallow water ? I often fish in waters from 3m-9m max . I assume that would be referred to as shallow . What cone angle would you suggest for this using the striker 4 vivid ?

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My definition of deep varies by body of water, but in general I consider anything 50ft or deeper to be deep. I almost always use the wider cones for more coverage

    Great video! A quick question...does it matter which way the transducer is facing? Also, what's the recommended depth for the it? Thanks in advance.

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With 2D sonar, nor so much, but when you get into down or side imaging transducers, then yes it will. I have my depth set to auto, so the it will follow the bottom.

    Great videos! I finished installing a Striker 4 on my kayak and I'm taking it out for the first test run tomorrow. I've reviewed all your videos and it's going to save me a lot of time, so thank you very much. This is my first time with a sonar fish finder, but I have over 35 years of radar experience so trying to understand the commonalities. The arch symbols and the time for the return in distance from outer edge of the cone to directly underneath, I understand. My problem is where is the outer edge? Let's say you are stationary. Is there anyway to tell if fish are approaching bow to stern or port to starboard? Thanks again, real good work to help us rookies.

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That part is much harder with standard 2d sonar...if you are using more advanced units with side imaging and down imaging it is much easier to tell

    nice info sir..may i know..if i spot fish in the screen..which side should i cast my lure..front, back, left or right?..how to decide which angle to cast..thanks in advance sir! 👍

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hard part of 2d sonar is that you don't know where the fish is...just that it is somewhere within the transducer cone. The only real way to know where the fish are is with a 360 imaging....side scan will also help a ton.

    I just bought the Plus(my first and I'm a newbie ) I have been looking at videos for a couple of weeks and am still having trouble comprehending that most agree that when a fish enters the screen, it is behind the boat.(transom mount) It seems to me that in 30 ft of water and set on 77(24 diameter of cone at the bottom), that fish entering the screen would not have cleared the back of the boat unless it is very close to the boat. Also, how can you tell if the fish is below the boat or 8' right or left at a 30' depth? Like I said, I'm new....lol By the way, the video is full of good info. Thanks

    I primarily fish in a kayak small ponds, lakes, and rivers less than 20' deep with a garmin CV5. What settings on the traditional sonar and clearVu do you recommend?

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say that one set of settings does not fit all circumstances...I would recommend watching my tutorial classes and learning about each setting and option, that way you can changes based on your needs at the time.

    Do you recommend this use for a PWC? / the only feature I would use is GPS & Waypoints. Fish finding etc is not necessary. / Will the GPS work it’s just plug and play meaning I don’t have to hook up the transducer?

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the GPS will work without the transducer. The GPS is in the unit itself.
