In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

hi iam thinking of buying a Garmin Striker Plus 7cv fishfinder/GPS but everyone seems to be buying them for kayaks are they any good for bigger boats or to small
This is a great video and good information. I just got my striker 4 plus and when I have it on traditional. I see the colored lines horizontal and I don’t see hills and valleys like you have. So I only see the moving screen, kinda like the heart rate on screen. Not pointy hills and valleys. Not sure if I need to fix something
Thank you! This was very helpful, as I'm a first-time sonar owner having recently purchased this model. I did also want to comment that the downscan works very well for me at slow speeds. "Slow" as in: 6hp at idle speed. I get very decent detail of the bottom and structure.
Yes, downscan will show you the contours. I was talking about fish. When the boat isnt moving, fish will appear as bright yellow and orange trails on the sonar, but there maynot be anything showing up on the downscan.
@@MaineManBassing It's actually comical and entertaining with my slow motor. If the fish are swimming fast enough in the direction of my boat, they appear as monsters on downscan. Ha!
I actually have the 4cv plus and the 44cv plus both on kayaks lol and I've never really learned to use either will the stuff you talk about work with the 44 I can't find ANY videos about that one specifically, echomap plus 44cv + transducer is what I want to learn about
I can't figure out how to backup my contour maps because it doesn't have a wi-fi or microSD card to connect to Active Captain. Did anyone figure out how to back up the contours maps?
my unit doesn't show clear vu does anyone know what is wrong if I need to go to a setting to get it or have something on that doesn't let me get it I am using the ice fishing transducer
I cannot for the life of me locate an option to change the clearvu frequency from 455 to 800 like it shows on the image on the box od the striker plus 4cv!!?? When i choose the clear vu screen then menu key frequency does not appear. Can you help me find where to change this? It does not show these cv frequency options on the 2d choices either.
I have a 20' Sun Tracker Pontoon in Las Vegas, NV . I am a trash fisherman. My objective is to find trash left by boat owners, fisherman, all over Lake Mead and all my surrounding lakes. Any suggestions?
Dak Dur the Harmon strike plus is just the 2d sonar. The farming striker plus cv is 2d sonar and downscan. You ordered the Harmon striker plus. This video is about the Harmon striker plus cv.
@@MaineManBassing No, it doesn't. It just means it has two different 2D frequencies. It still has CHIRP but it is a much more limited range of CHIRP than on the much more expensive solutions.

Haha. "Gain is basically colour contrast". No it's not colour contrast. Gain is the strength of your signal. You reduce the gain to reduce interference noise and stuff you don't need to see like crap floating through the water. If you don't set it right, you'll be thinking you're looking at fish when you're just looking at interference or weed floating in the water. Your video should say, I don't really know what I'm talking about, that's why I just run everything on auto. Haha
@@jonboatmorava9115 not sure what you're talking about but if it's song that then you have interference. Maybe from your electrical or something creating bubbles.

It will store your plotted maps then will continue to update as you scan.

1st time set up do you have to download maps and do you have to get updates, also any tutorials on here how to fit on to sot kayak thanks
no downloading of maps on this Garmin. You make your own. Just turn on quickdraw

Hey mate just got one similar to yours but my yellow colours and stuff are on the top half of map not bottom like yours appears how did I fix that
TVG is a feature to eliminate noise in shallow water. As you know, there can be a lot of shallow water noise, so this can be a useful feature.
thanks.

Do you use fish alarm? My first time bought it can’t use yet not summer yet and do you think fish alarm work?
Havent tried it, but I doubt it is accurate. Let me know if it works.

look at sunken trees. There's always lures stuck on them. It's the one thing I hate about fishing is all the plastic we are depositing in the lakes.
Hard to find a good tutorial video. Just bought the Stryker 5 Ice Fishing Bundle. Thanks?
had my eye on that, maybe this winter.
If you turn on A scope you will see a dimension at the very bottom. This is the diameter of your cone angle at that depth.
Hey whats up
Im new to my Garmin Striker plus 4
My question is can i save the fishing spot on my map? Thanks!
Click map icon button on bottem left of Garmin
Can you manually type in a GPS coordinate you want to go to?
I don’t know. I would think so because it is referred to as a chart plotter.
You can always call lowrance and ask them.
@@MaineManBassing Did you mean Garmin?
Can you increase te size of your overlay numbers?
I just bought one on fb yard sale for $50. They will work on any boat.
I ordered one of these but I don’t have the ClearVu thing 😑 idk why, it just says dual beam
Dak Dur clear view means it has downscan as well as 2d sonar. I’m pretty sure dual beam means downscan.
Maine Man Bassing
I don’t have a ClearVu option that shows up just a 220 and 77 HZ or whatever

Do a factory reset
How do you ad area maps?
Can you change it from feet to fathom

you want it so that the ducer is parallel to the ground as much as possible.
So you would want that transducer sitting horizontal on the mount then correct
