Oh no, I didn’t do this pre hard mode. But I can still do my best. Edit: I am almost at moon lord now I died to him once but once I am done with him I will cleanse the world with the cleantaminator ( although my wallet will suffer a LOT)
Love how you often bring up multiple options on how you can tackle the same objective. I usually just dig hellevators mindlessly with a pickaxe, but having just tried it with bombs. That was fun, albeit a little destructive lol. I got tons of information out of watching this! Thanks for the help!
Honestly, that's one of the things I love about Terraria. There no one "right" way to do much of anything, but you have creative freedom to try all sorts of different options. I like options!!
I just made my first ever pair of Terraspark boots! Just started playing terraria about a week ago and without your videos I probably would've just blindly started hardmode asap, but instead I've got great gear, and a much deeper understanding of the game! Now I've just got to build my pylon villages and off to hardmode, thanks!

This has been the best beginners guide series I've found, I always send it to my friends and/or everyone who's struggling with the game, I really hope you finish it, I love your content!
Was going through the series as a new Terrarian playing a FTW MM mediumcore world, and I assumed this was very popular due to it's extremely high quality and consistency, but I just checked the views and only 15k??? Holy hell this man deserves millions for the work he has done here. All the best of wishes for the channel, thank you for the help with my Terraria journey, and I will be sure to continue watching and supporting the channel! (I love DST as well)
Thank you so much for making this series! i only started playing for the first time a few weeks ago and it gets so confusing and overwhelming sometimes, now i have a rough idea of how to progress through the game. i literally just beat eye of cthulu yesterday so i’m still very far away from needing to get ready for for hard mode but it’s good to have a reference for what to do later! these videos are so well-made and helpful.
Glad I could help! Chances are you'll probably pass up what the guides have covered before too much longer, but I'm hoping to increase my rate of making this videos over the next several months. Feel free to let me know if you have any specific questions!
Been revisiting Terraria after quite a while to check out all these new updates I've missed (really like that new pylon & npc happiness mechanic), so it's nice to have good, concise videos like this, that also explain their reasoning to refresh all the memories & what to do. Thanks a lot!
Thanks so much for this, I was checking every possible thing I could find to make sure I was ready to fight the wall of flesh. And then this popped up. Love these videos!
Thanks for the video! I'd like to add three small improvments : - Try to build the upgrade of architect gizmo pack instead, Hand of creation - While marking biome chest in the dungeon, remove water candle for lower spawn rate in the dungeon - Use the water candle to have higher spawn in the cavern mob farm
I'm pretty sure the hand of creation didn't exist when I made the video, but yeah - it's really ice too. And yes - definitely gather up those water candles in areas you don't want the extra mob spawns, and put them places where you do!
Man, you are always helping me! I defeated the wall of flesh one day before this video and it was hard and since then…it has been hard too hahaha. But keep posting these videos as they are amazingly awesome. Cheers man and thanks
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS GUIDE! I have been looking everywhere with the full explanation and logic behind hardmode biome spread, and what to prepare, and you have answered all my thoughts and doubts. I'll start preparing.
thanks for the video. Even though ive have several 100 hours i still get confused or forget certain things up to date like the npc pylons. Thanks for your time and effort for making this video.
Oh, I still check the wiki regularly whenever I'm playing. There's just SOOOO much to learn and try to remember, I can't even begin to keep it all straight!
I’ve been playing terraria periodically since it’s release, all I gotta say is “huh?” I knew corruption was an issue but damn. Well made video and expert advice. Brilliant.. just feel like my IQ might be a bit low to understand this all in one watch. Definitely will be coming back. Thanks for sharing your insight.

Used this last year for when I started Terraria ever since I wanted it when I was younger, and still very useful for a second play through this year! Thanks a lot
Thank u for this guide man, I just started playing terraria again after quite a while. Started a new world and everything. Came here to check if there was anything else to do before I take on hard mode and boy is there a lot more. Cheers again.
How are you liking PC compared to console? I've only ever played on PC, but have a hard time imagining that I would enjoy the game on any other platform.
Hey man, thanks for doing this series, very helpful even for a vet like me. Actually finished the game pre 1.4 with a classic char and Expert world and just getting back to the game this time Mediumcore char and Master world, will be tackling Hardcore-Master after getting the feel of the game again and it's newer mechanics. Your tutorials greatly helps me getting to know the newer mechanics and some things I didn't know before. Keep up with the good work.
Nice!! Also, way to go on the medium-core with plans for Hardcore! I've never cared for those much myself, as I generally play a bit fast and loose...and die a LOT - LOL But I've seen footage of people pulling off For the Worthy Hardcore Master Mode - and man that's gotta take some serious commitment and planning to do!!
@@salendrak Yea, dying is a pain, but mediumcore-master does make me more careful in exploring and getting ready/overprepared for boss fights, even developed a habit of preparing random houses with beds in case I die and be near my dropped loot lol, Your detailed explanation on the pylons and npc happiness is a godsend and some tips like the dungeon chest marking which I never thought off really helps a lot.
Honestly this is going to help a lot, I have finished all the bosses and am itching to go into hard mode but im enjoying building homes and such as well. This vid has given me a lot to work on
Just started terreria only a few days ago and have been speeding through progression and bosses I guess since I'm right before having to go into hard mode for the first time i have to start taking it slow and doing most of these things for my first playthrough. This video really helps and for the past few days of grinding terreria solo I've been binging your channel and let me just say I love your videos you've definitely earned my sub and i hope you keep making video because as long as I keep playing terreria then you'll probably be my main channel for tips and tricks on everything in the game. Thanks dude 👍
@@salendrak yeah 😂 I'm taking it slow for a bit though until i can do most or even all the things on this list. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and i usually over prepare in games like terraria so i want everything to be perfect when I enter hard mode lol
@@quackx3958 You should put that perfect in air quotes LOL I would recommend doing at least most or maybe all of the basics I go over on this video, but in the future feel free to do more or even none and see what happens. Mix things up to keep it interesting!
@@salendrakyeah that is true i do like the look of the hallow and honestly as long as I don't lose out on anything too important i really don't care that much if one of the biomes overtakes my world since I can just decontaminate it later.
thank you for the detailed guide. i wish terraria included a toggle for turning off evil biome spread in all game modes. in 1.4, it's only an option in jorney mode. there's an "evil begone" mode in tmodloader that stops evil biome spread, but that only works for the 1.3 versions. i like to take my sweet time playing pre-HM, so by time i'm ready to kill the WoF, my map is already obliterated by corruption. and of course it gets exponentially worse in HM. of course some players suggest "just mine out a protective border", but that is absurdly tedious, destroys the map, and a single unmined block or or broken alter can undo all your work. if i've spent dozens of hours building and progressing in my map, i shouldn't have to spend dozens more maintaining evil biome spread.
Wait - I'm confused. How is your map "obliterated by corruption" in pre-Hardmode? The only thing that spreads is surface level dirt - stone, ice, and sand types of blocks don't get infected, and evil grass is easily stopped with a single sunflower!
i agree. i generally just play journey mode to disable it and then not use any other journey mode features. that way it wont spread but my game is still as vanilla as possible
Something I've done during past playthroughs was to line sufficiently-widened trenches with rope; keeps plants from spreading their biomes across, and helps make traversing the areas near the trenches easier.
That V comes from the location of the death of the first WoF you take down. Just trace back from the loot square. It is stated that as you defeat the WoF, you release the 2 spirits of light and dark to 2 separate paths, which is that V
Mmmmm I don't think that's accurate. I've started my runways from the edge of the world plenty of times, killed the wall out there, and the V started in the middle.
Big but optional! Some people go WAY bigger than what I recommend, and others do almost nothing and just roll the dice, let come what may. It all comes down with what you're comfortable with and how you like to play the game! Have fun in Hard Mode!!
Honestly, it can be much more work trying to seek out all corruption and purify the world if it spreads too much. It depends really on whether you’re planning on keeping your world of just using it for resources. At the very least you want to protect your jungle, you need it for items and progression. Though it’s almost been two weeks now so you’re probably past this point now.
I’m about to go into hard mode but I’ve learn the hard way from previous worlds that preparing is VERY important thanks for the amazing video it helps a lot
Another recommendation is to create a burner world for Hardmode, it'll make certain things much easier to do. I'm currently on my main world, which I've left in pre-hardmode, and a Hardmode world that I use to export crafting materials and crafting stations, so I can summon all of the mechanical bosses in as short a time as possible and then fight planters as quickly as possible, as defeating planters slows down evil biome spread by 50% of its base Hardmode rate
Yup - a perfectly valid strategy that I know a lot of players use! I personally like to restrict my character to the world they were made for, and only "borrow" items from other worlds when they just aren't showing up in my current one. But that's just me - play how you like!
That’s what I did! Currently on my first playthrough and I made a second world, immediately dug down to hell and dunked the guide in Lava, and killed the wall of flesh. Now I’m running around this burner world collecting as much stuff as I can to prepare my main world. It’s nice seeing the evil spread wildly and not have to worry about doing anything about it while I collect stuff. I think the first thing I’m gonna acquire from the burner world is a full set of Titanium armor and pickaxe. EDIT: I… Ended up beating the game on my burner world. Main world has my base village and all my stuff but it’s still pre hard mode. Lol
I did something similar on accident I made a main world but it turned into my burner because cleaning it up the biomes now is a nightmare made so I beat the game, got zenith, started a master world and now I’m making it pretty😂
i started playing terraria a couple days ago, having no idea what i was doing. watching your videos really helped me understand the game and beat my first couple of bosses. thank u salendrak!
This is such a good guide! Coming to terraria from Minecraft is night and day! There are just sooooooooo many things that aren’t even mentioned when first picking the game up.
Right?! Terraria really does very little to steer you in the right direction or teach you much of anything, though I suppose Minecraft is also like that in most aspects.
Looks like I have a lot more work to do before Hardmode. Oh well I was planning on having one world set as a hardmode world, and still have my main world for puttering around in. Great Vid. I just wish i could get the Pylons to work.
I just got back into terraria (it was on sale on the ps store so I had to get it) and i forgot how fun it was and any time I got stuck you’ve always helped as of now I’m digging so the crimson doesn’t spread then I’ll be good for hard mode thank you so much man
Thank you so much for this tutorial it was really comprehensive and entertaining :) I recently picked up terraria again, started a fresh world + character and now I’m determined to finally beat the game! I’ve already built the life fruit farm now I’m working on the underground cavern farm
Too little to late ig. We just entered hard mode and realized we can't stop the crimson or hallow, our world will soon be a mess lol. Well you live and you learn.
You pronounced Nazar just fine. It's a traditional charm of protection in several cultures in real life, so it does have a proper pronunciation. I had no idea this was in the game, so thats pretty cool. Sometimes it looks just like that, like an actual eye, but other times it's just a blue bead.
The timing was super perfect since I accidentaly entered hardmode by killing the wall of flesh and I could have watched this before killing the wall of flesh.
Well, good news is that all of this stuff, especially protecting your pylon villages, can be done after you enter Hardmode too! And in fact, if you get some quick Hardmode ore pick-axe upgrades, the work can be even faster!!
@@salendrak Thanks for the info, I decided to turn the crimson into hallow since at least its habitable. I had a hard time starting hard mode but now I got some hardmode weapons like the Golden shower and Storm bow. Thank you again.
I did most of the stuff you suggested unconsciously because I knew it would be helpful later. There’s two things that flew under my radar though, and it’s that damn builder and fishing accessories. I have never made those ever in all my years of playing, and I’m about to change that.
Thanks man you’re the best I’m probably to lazy to do all of these things. Even tho I’ve stopped playing terraria for a couple of years I just got back into it and you helped me so much.
Nice!! And good news - pretty much everything I mentioned in the video can be done in both pre-Hardmode as well as Hardmode too! For example, the dungeon doesn't actually get its hard-mode enemies until after Plantera is defeated, so if you wanted to farm the Nazar and have a REALLY easy time killing everything, you can do that before Plantera!
I like to take advantage of the cavern railways and connect them across the world, it worked for transport before pylons and helps prevent biome spread
Well, in my first world I accually underestimated my new corruption biome, went to do some other accivities and went back, finding it was kinda too late. It went really far and deep, I couldnt do much about it.
Yeah, I still remember my first world and getting a LOT of my cavern level turned to Crimson. I spent a fair bit of time mining out buffer zones to contain the spread, and overall it still turned out fine. But even a few preventative measures ahead of time certainly would have helped!!
15:30 _plant jungle grass seeds on each row_ Technically all you need is 1 jungle grass seed and connect all the mud rows with 1 (or more) columns if you are having trouble getting jungle grass seeds since they have a paltry 1/100 (1%) chance to drop from plants. 15:40 _Flower boots_ As mentioned Flower Boots can also help regrow plants on jungle grass to get more seeds. The boots can be fished up in Jungle/Bramble crates if you can’t find them in an Ivy chest.
Technically true, but I'm not patient enough for the whole area to grow the grass from a single seed. 😆 Usually it doesn't take very long to farm up seeds, especially if you're using flower boots.
@@salendrak I recently started playing on hardcore master difficulty where patience is key and minimizing risks will keep you alive which is why I mentioned only needing one seed to kickstart the farm. But yeah, if you are playing on journey / soft core / medium core then farming more jungle grass seeds is worth it. (On Journey mode you only need to research 25 seeds to unlock cloning it.) When you don't have to worry about death you can easily collect more seeds. =P
@@salendrak Really well actually! The start was a very rough since: 1. I have Carpal Tunnel so using the short sword is painful. Switched over to using the pickaxe for damage. 2. You are severely bottlenecked on walls at the start. 3. Not having a chest to place items is rough for Inventory Tetris. I have a few projects: * Was lucky to find lava at the bottom of a living wood tree nearby! A bucket of lava is so OP on the second or third day! * A spear is SO OP for knock back and CC (crowd control). * Made a surface level split-pyramid design “AFK type” farm using one bucket of lava for _easy_money. (Note: NEVER afk in hardcore!) * Been stockpiling up _every_ type of bait possible with a bug net. * Made an “===“ type tunnel at the surface with one block above me, one block below me, and filled in the tunnel with stone walls. This lets me travel safely West to the snow biome, and East to the desert and jungle biomes. Trivial to collect mana stars too which needed for making Enchanted Nightcrawlers (35% bait.) * I have fishing farms completed in snow, surface, desert. Manually filling a 20x10 pool with 2 iron buckets isn’t fun. Jungle fish farm is in progress. Ironically I HATE fishing in Real Life TM - it is boring as frack, but in Terraria fishing is a nice zen moment and even dopamine events when you get normal and biome crates! * First 6 wide hellevator down to the Caverns is done. * I have seed farms setup (dirt, sand, snow, and mud) - just need more seeds. Blinkroot and Shiverthorn have been started. * I finished completing mining out the top half 170x96 area for my Caverns AFK farm and got the split-pyramid lava AFK farm done. Still mining out and placing walls on the bottom half. Need to be careful spamming torches so I don’t accidentally trigger the Torch God like I did in my pre-hardcore test world. :-) * Fishing is _extremely_ OP. The bottleneck is what I call getting over the “stockpiling bait” hurdle. I’m making my way to the Angler since fishing quests rewards greatly help with this. Stuck using worms, butterflies, scorpions, fireflies in the meantime. * With my seed farm I’ve been stockpiling worms. * Already fished up a dozen+ crates even have 1 golden and 1 Oasis crate. Sailfish boots from iron crates are OP. :-) * Fishing at 4:30 am to maximize returns on bait helps too. * Intentionally kept my life at 100 (!) so as not to trigger any events. IIRC the trigger is 120 life. * Due to my two AFK farms I have easy gold. * I bought 999 ultra bright torches from the traveling merchant which are a game changer! * With all the excess gold I have every “essential” accessory from the traveling merchant: Ammo Box, Brick Layer, DPS meter, Extendo Grip, Lifeform analyzer, Portable Cement Mixer, and Stopwatch. I’m actually finally broke now buying the last few items but will start buying extras the next “gold run” when I’m waiting for night to pass. :-) * Finally stockpiled mining 4K of stone so I’m good for bricks and walls for the moment. I haven’t triggered any bosses yet since there is SO much prep work to do. (I did beat the Eye of Cthulhu on my hardcore test world but using a bow absolutely _kills_ my Carpal Tunnel with no auto shooting.) The next phase is to build a sky tunnel (with walls) and build 3 more hellevators. Hardcore requires patience and planning, more so with the way mobs cheat in the game. Let me explain: _Terraria_ is easily one of the *top 10 greatest modern games of all time.* It is no accident _Diablo 2_ and _Terraria_ have amazing itemization. Absolutely love it! However as a professional game developer (since 1995) I noticed the game “cheats”: 1. The smarter mobs _always_ know where you regardless of how many blocks there are between you or if their LoS (Line of Sight) is blocked. One of the reasons I stopped playing in 1.2. To be fair you can see the entire map but it kind of annoying. 2. Mobs don’t take fall damage. :-/ 3. Can’t skin or cook rabbits. 4. As a ghost you can’t see undiscovered blocks. I understand why from a balance POV but this doesn’t stop anyone from just recreating the world with the same seed if they wanted. For those reasons I don’t mind cheesing the game in 2 ways: 1. Manually creating a gold / item farm is OK since there is a time investment. Plus I refuse to jeopardizing making my Carpal Tunnel worse with this PITA hassle of having to spam click combat. Looking forward to getting an auto swing weapon such as fishing up an Enchanted Sword. 2. Every time my hardcore character dies I make a new one but I re-use the same world so I’m not completely starting from scratch. I’m on “True Death” 5 ATM. :-) I could _abuse_ Save and Quit but that seems like taking things TOO far so reusing the world seems like a balanced compromise. I’m going to write up two docs: 1. _Crafting Quick Start cheat sheet_ which has the 20 common crafting items you are constantly making in your mini-bases in HC. 2. _HOWTO Cheese Terraria Hardcore Master Difficulty_ guide I’ll throw them up on my GitHub account and probably post them to reddit since _My Diablo 2 Cheet Sheet_ was very well received and others may like a Terraria focused one. HC is definitely not for everyone! I usually play on Journey mode which is absolutely amazing with the research and clone functionality if you have Carpal Tunnel like I do but there is something rewarding about playing hardcore master difficulty. If you like long term planning, building, and have the patience playing HC can be extremely rewarding. I _really_ love Journey mode as it gets rid of the mindless grind and strip-mining spare resources worlds.
For anyone already in HM and you need a bunch of jungle seeds, put your dryad in a mushroom biome and buy mushrooms seeds, kill a mech boss, get the clentaminator, buy a bunch of green solution, make a mushroom biome and spray it to turn it into a jungle one
Plantera shoots out little grabby-hand vine things that can attach to background walls, creating obstacles you'll have to avoid. If there are no background walls, there's nothing for them to attach to, which makes the fight against her a little easier 👍
To make it more clear and simple: Required for mentally stable playthrough: 3:03 7:17 10:40 Would be nice to do: 9:56 15:03 14:36 13:10 Optional: Basically everything else, but things above I find required for a less harsh and chaotic hardmode.
This video is a good help but be careful, if the jungle gets infected plantera will be in rage mode when you summon it, and it will probably beat you in 5 sec. So be aware
Heh - I once built a plantera fighting arena that straddled the surface, and was really confused when she kept going ballistic and one-shotting me. Eventually I figured it out LOL
I tried avoiding guide videos for my first proper playthrough because I wanted to experience it on my own, the problem was I got lucky and got pretty good loot and weapons that I can breeze trough pre-hardmode boss easily not realising I was severely underpowered and unprepared for hardmode, now almost half my npc is ded without places to respawn lol and I died a lot as well. I'm eager to try again and following your guide, thanks!
Yeah, I can't even imagine trying to go through this game as a new player without any guides or information from outside the game. Would be hella difficult, to say the least!!
I'm low-key thinking about taking my goodies to a new world and starting over there because quite frankly, I wasn't ready. Everything is spreading, the biomes are aggressively mixing with each other, and it's a problem ... Edit: we went into hardmode on my server after thorough preparation, and I'm totally dead inside because for the first time--I've never seen it do this before --it's spreading from hidden patches of crimson walls. I got rid of the grass, got rid of the crinstone, and it just keeps spreading... So I did exactly what I never wanted to do: I dug millions of horrible, unattractive tunnels everywhere before realizing it wasn't going to stop the spread, so my new idea is to move the NPCs higher (not too high so wyverns can't harass them and me) and create artificial biomes in bubbles, dig very far out, mine up all the walls (if I have a friend or two helping with the walls that would be fantastic), and once it's deep enough so it won't matter, I might put the dirt and other various biome blocks back and protect it with a layer of wood. The idea of getting rid of my world I worked so damn hard on is just.... Not happening. Absolutely not. I literally refuse. Then again we start on a medium world and it wouldn't suck so bad to go to a large one and prep better this time... Hmm...
Yeah, if things get too out of control, starting over may be a good option! And if you take your goodies with you, you'll be back to where you were in no time!
18:08 I'm building my first ever cavern farming area as you've described, making it plently big enough. I was wondering if there is a more detailed guide for the other platforms that are in yours (spawning areas to the side and above?) Thank you for all your videos, really enjoying my first playthrough
I just throw things around wherever. You basically just want a place to stand and sometimes recover that's a bit up and out of the action, while still keeping you in the centralized location so that stuff will continue to spawn just beyond the edges of your screen.
nice video, i started a world a few days ago, planned to play with a friend but he kinda bailed so im goin through master mode alone rn, every other world I have had, the biome spread has been a little issue but im trying to make sure this time its all under control. thanks again :)
You really dont need to go this in depth about preventing biome spread for something thats aimed at beginners. All you need to do is bomb out a big hole to quarantine the evil biome without even digging underneeth it. The evil biomes spread fast on the surface but very slowly underground so if you just make a big crater on each side of the evil biome it will take an unbelievably long time to spread to the surface in that time you will have already beaten the game 3 times.
And honestly, post Labor of Love update I'm not sure it's even worth protecting villages before entering hardmode, so long as you check the V right away once it has formed.
Yes, but the V can and will form going across those helevators, and can then proceed to spread up and down from there. Vertical spread usually isn't too much of a concern near the surface, but if you have any villages in the underground or cavern layer, it can be an issue.
Already did *most* of these in my first playthrough, specifically the cavern arena but I never thought to put it near the edge of the world. Surprise surprise it ended up getting hallowed since I put it directly below my spawn, haha. Very helpful tips and just in time for the 1.4.4 update tomorrow when I start a new Expert mode playthrough after finding Classic a bit easy for my tastes. Thanks for your tips!
I think you'll like expert! The new accessories for bosses are nice, the extra accessory slot in hardmode is very nice, and the added challenge is a great change of pace and a lot more fun!
Thanks for this guide im about to enter hardmode but luckily this video pops up i already finished my pylon village but didnt contain it properly thanks for this guide imma take my time deserves an sub!❤
I find it cool how you reply to every comment, that’s a lot of work!! I’m doubtful of going into hard mode since I have a small world from before 1.4 and think that it’d get infected too quickly. Good work 👍😁
It's a labor of love responding to all these comments 💖 If your world was generated pre 1.4 I would definitely just go ahead and make a new one, and definitely go medium if not large!
@@salendrak I was planning on that but I have everything on that one world. I’ve built a pylon network and explored practically the entire world. I’ve made four gap wide tunnels on each side of the crimsons, so that shouldn’t spread, but the hard mode V wouldn’t be blocked
This is helpful. I'm new to this game, and now I'm in hard mode without making any preparations. Maybe I will make another world and keep my character and all of the items I have.
Starting a new world is a great way to put into practice everything you learned in the first world. I'm pretty sure I started over pretty early on after my first world. So long as you're having fun - it's all good!
3:00 How low should I dig to protect my pylon towns? Should I dig to the underworld maybe? Also are you sure it’s okay to just use stone blocks to line said tunnels?
Yup on the stone - the reason being is that 3-wide tunnels work perfectly fine in any location where thorns can't grow to cross the gap. And since thorns can't grow from stone blocks, that's why it works! As for depth - you only need to go like a full screen's worth below, so two half-screens for easier measuring.
Really appreciate this, recently picked up the game again after like 3 years away and decided to play it modded with calamity and a few other difficilty adjusters. Prehardmode (I also have a deathcounter... obviously in a second) I have 48 deaths and have taken down each boss besides the perferator hive (i hate that crimson little shitter) but man its rough and ive already done so much prep for the bosses I have fought im terrified of hard mode...
Guessing ur already in hardmode but anyways... Calamity makes early hardmode a lot easier. They nerfed a lot of enemies and made it to where they spawn after the mechanical bosses.

Spider caverns are very easy to find by using Dangersense potions, since they outline spiderwebs in red.
Yup!! Those potions are also great for just general exploration as well, as they make it easy to find other open cave areas.
Spewlunker potions also highlight webs… crazy
If you want to easily find a spider cavern, just dig a hellevator at the original spawnpoint. There's somehow always one there.
They are more common in the cold biome

This has been the best beginners guide series I've found, I always send it to my friends and/or everyone who's struggling with the game, I really hope you finish it, I love your content!
Thanks! Sharing is caring!! 😁
This guide helped a ton! Now that I’ve gotten the WoF down I managed to grind my way up to post-Golem. Another banger, Salen :)
Thanks!!
yeah.
(I love DST as well)
Wow - thanks!! One of these days I'll be favored by the powers that be and my views will explode! That's my hope at least!!
And here I am in the future seeing total views at 888k. Congrats!
Welcome back to Terraria, and happy to be of service!!
Thanks so much for this, I was checking every possible thing I could find to make sure I was ready to fight the wall of flesh. And then this popped up. Love these videos!
Awesome - glad I could help!!
Your timing is impeccable, fr! This was an extremely good and informative watch as usual! Merci beaucoup!
Awesome!! I love it when I have good timing!! 😁
i would have never made it through pre hardmode if it wasn’t for you, tysm 😁
Awwww thanks!!
glad to see this series back. the video was spot on as well!
Thanks!! Next up is Deerclops, and after that the Wall of Flesh!!
@@salendrak sounds good 👍
Thanks for the video! I'd like to add three small improvments :
- Try to build the upgrade of architect gizmo pack instead, Hand of creation
- While marking biome chest in the dungeon, remove water candle for lower spawn rate in the dungeon
- Use the water candle to have higher spawn in the cavern mob farm
I'm pretty sure the hand of creation didn't exist when I made the video, but yeah - it's really ice too. And yes - definitely gather up those water candles in areas you don't want the extra mob spawns, and put them places where you do!
Man, you are always helping me! I defeated the wall of flesh one day before this video and it was hard and since then…it has been hard too hahaha. But keep posting these videos as they are amazingly awesome. Cheers man and thanks
More is on the way!!
More than a thousand hours into the game and I still learn from you! Great stuff
I still learn something new with every video I make!!
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS GUIDE! I have been looking everywhere with the full explanation and logic behind hardmode biome spread, and what to prepare, and you have answered all my thoughts and doubts. I'll start preparing.
Yay! Glad it helped!!
thanks for the video.
The good news is that the biome spread issues are a LOT less now that smashing altars doesn't cause random blocks to sometimes get converted.
@@salendrak is this true? ive had confirmation that this is true and false
@@anaveragekiwi Totally true IF you have the 1.4.4 update. Copy from the altar wiki page:

Thank u for this guide man, I just started playing terraria again after quite a while. Started a new world and everything. Came here to check if there was anything else to do before I take on hard mode and boy is there a lot more. Cheers again.
Awesome - happy to have helped!!
I've beat the game with friends on console, but now I'm playing solo on PC.
Needed some reminders and this vid helped!
I've never cared for those much myself, as I generally play a bit fast and loose...and die a LOT - LOL
But I've seen footage of people pulling off For the Worthy Hardcore Master Mode - and man that's gotta take some serious commitment and planning to do!!

Don't be scared to take the plunge into hardmode though - that's where LOTS of the fun begins!!
@@salendrak yeah 😂 I'm taking it slow for a bit though until i can do most or even all the things on this list. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and i usually over prepare in games like terraria so i want everything to be perfect when I enter hard mode lol
@@quackx3958 You should put that perfect in air quotes LOL
I would recommend doing at least most or maybe all of the basics I go over on this video, but in the future feel free to do more or even none and see what happens.
I always come back here and check out what to do, this video helps me out a lot , thanks! :)
Nice!!
Thanks a lot for your work on this video. It will surely make a lot of difference and entering hardmode more fun being properly prepared.
Have fun in hardmode!!
Something I've done during past playthroughs was to line sufficiently-widened trenches with rope; keeps plants from spreading their biomes across, and helps make traversing the areas near the trenches easier.
Ooooooh that's a great idea! And compared to putting blocks along the walls, dropping ropes down is super convenient and fast!!
This is genius. Thank you

That V comes from the location of the death of the first WoF you take down. Just trace back from the loot square. It is stated that as you defeat the WoF, you release the 2 spirits of light and dark to 2 separate paths, which is that V
Mmmmm I don't think that's accurate. I've started my runways from the edge of the world plenty of times, killed the wall out there, and the V started in the middle.

ive owned terraria for over 10 years but only recently started actually playing it for the first time. thank you for the tips!
It's a great game that ages surprisingly well!
this is my first time entering hardmode, and I have to say that these preparations are really big, but anyway, the video really helped me, thanks
Such a great channel!
You've by far got the most clear cut while also super informational videos about terraria on TH-cam which is sooo helpful!! :)
I try to make them into action packed infotainment!!
What are those summoned minions at 00:55 that shoot fireballz?
Imps from the Imp Staff! Crafted from Hellstone bars.
I’m about to go into hard mode but I’ve learn the hard way from previous worlds that preparing is VERY important thanks for the amazing video it helps a lot
Happy to help!!

Looks like I have a lot more work to do before Hardmode. Oh well I was planning on having one world set as a hardmode world, and still have my main world for puttering around in. Great Vid. I just wish i could get the Pylons to work.
Pylons not working? I've got a video on that too!
I just got back into terraria (it was on sale on the ps store so I had to get it) and i forgot how fun it was and any time I got stuck you’ve always helped as of now I’m digging so the crimson doesn’t spread then I’ll be good for hard mode thank you so much man

Too little to late ig. We just entered hard mode and realized we can't stop the crimson or hallow, our world will soon be a mess lol. Well you live and you learn.
I like that attitude! Chances are there's nothing that can't be salvaged though. It just might be more work!
I just started my world and am trying to figure out the game. This was a great help. Thank you!
Happy to be of service!!
This video helps me out so much. This is exactly where im at right now in my world.
I had good timing - yay!!
You pronounced Nazar just fine. It's a traditional charm of protection in several cultures in real life, so it does have a proper pronunciation. I had no idea this was in the game, so thats pretty cool. Sometimes it looks just like that, like an actual eye, but other times it's just a blue bead.
I'm pretty sure I looked up the pronunciations of that on several websites before recording the audio 😆
They come in rather handy!
Thanks man you’re the best I’m probably to lazy to do all of these things. Even tho I’ve stopped playing terraria for a couple of years I just got back into it and you helped me so much.
Good news - you can do as many or as few of these as you like, and it will all (probably) still work out just fine!!

I learn new things with every video I make!!
i’m a bit ahead, i’ve beaten the Destroyer, but am just watching this for fun
ps: currently preparing for the Twins
Yeah - those make great natural breaks in the terrain for containing biome spread!
Well, in my first world I accually underestimated my new corruption biome, went to do some other accivities and went back, finding it was kinda too late. It went really far and deep, I couldnt do much about it.
@VaderxG I couldn't say it better
Yeah, I still remember my first world and getting a LOT of my cavern level turned to Crimson. I spent a fair bit of time mining out buffer zones to contain the spread, and overall it still turned out fine. But even a few preventative measures ahead of time certainly would have helped!!
@@salendrak Well, now I know.
By the way, thanks to YOUR videos, i went that far in that world. Thanks for all your content, it's very helpful.

15:30 _plant jungle grass seeds on each row_
Technically all you need is 1 jungle grass seed and connect all the mud rows with 1 (or more) columns if you are having trouble getting jungle grass seeds since they have a paltry 1/100 (1%) chance to drop from plants.
15:40 _Flower boots_
As mentioned Flower Boots can also help regrow plants on jungle grass to get more seeds. The boots can be fished up in Jungle/Bramble crates if you can’t find them in an Ivy chest.
Technically true, but I'm not patient enough for the whole area to grow the grass from a single seed. 😆
Usually it doesn't take very long to farm up seeds, especially if you're using flower boots.
@@MichaelPohoreski hardcore master mode?! How's that going? I definitely have neither the patience nor risk aversion for that! 🤣
@@salendrak Really well actually! The start was a very rough since:
1. I have Carpal Tunnel so using the short sword is painful. Switched over to using the pickaxe for damage.
2. You are severely bottlenecked on walls at the start.
3. Not having a chest to place items is rough for Inventory Tetris.
I have a few projects:
* Was lucky to find lava at the bottom of a living wood tree nearby! A bucket of lava is so OP on the second or third day!
* A spear is SO OP for knock back and CC (crowd control).
* Made a surface level split-pyramid design “AFK type” farm using one bucket of lava for _easy_money. (Note: NEVER afk in hardcore!)
* Been stockpiling up _every_ type of bait possible with a bug net.
* Made an “===“ type tunnel at the surface with one block above me, one block below me, and filled in the tunnel with stone walls. This lets me travel safely West to the snow biome, and East to the desert and jungle biomes. Trivial to collect mana stars too which needed for making Enchanted Nightcrawlers (35% bait.)
* I have fishing farms completed in snow, surface, desert.
Need to be careful spamming torches so I don’t accidentally trigger the Torch God like I did in
my pre-hardcore test world. :-)
* Fishing is _extremely_ OP.
* Fishing at 4:30 am to maximize returns on bait helps too.
* Finally stockpiled mining 4K of stone so I’m good for bricks and walls for the moment.
Let me explain:
_Terraria_ is easily one of the *top 10 greatest modern games of all time.* It is no accident _Diablo 2_ and _Terraria_ have amazing itemization. Absolutely love it!
However as a professional game developer (since 1995) I noticed the game “cheats”:
3. Can’t skin or cook rabbits.
4. As a ghost you can’t see undiscovered blocks. I understand why from a balance POV but this doesn’t stop anyone from just recreating the world with the same seed if they wanted.
For those reasons I don’t mind cheesing the game in 2 ways:
I could _abuse_ Save and Quit but that seems like taking things TOO far so reusing the world seems like a balanced compromise.
I’m going to write up two docs:
1. _Crafting Quick Start cheat sheet_ which has the 20 common crafting items you are constantly making in your mini-bases in HC.
2. _HOWTO Cheese Terraria Hardcore Master Difficulty_ guide
I’ll throw them up on my GitHub account and probably post them to reddit since _My Diablo 2 Cheet Sheet_ was very well received and others may like a Terraria focused one.
@@MichaelPohoreski Wow - sounds like you've really done your homework and put a lot of thought into the project!
Just listening that the evil biome spreads faster makes me hesitant to progress to game
Nah, it's really not that bad - especially if you properly prepare for it! And besides, all the really fun content is in Hardmode anyways!!
I've quit that world long ago, but im working on a new one that is pre-hardmode, im just getting some accessories before transitioning
Great video! Just wondering why you should remove the background in the Life Fruit/Plantera Arena. What are the benefits of doing so? 15:56
Makes the Plantera fight a bit easier, since her grabby vine things won't be able to latch onto the background walls since you've removed them!
For anyone already in HM and you need a bunch of jungle seeds, put your dryad in a mushroom biome and buy mushrooms seeds, kill a mech boss, get the clentaminator, buy a bunch of green solution, make a mushroom biome and spray it to turn it into a jungle one
Yup - that's one way to make jungle grass covered areas!
Thanks for the amazing videos man, I like to know everything before playing a game and your video guides are just perfect.
Happy to be of service!!
Curious about the remove background tip on the jungle seed farm. Anyone able to further explain that?
Plantera shoots out little grabby-hand vine things that can attach to background walls, creating obstacles you'll have to avoid. If there are no background walls, there's nothing for them to attach to, which makes the fight against her a little easier 👍
@@salendrak thanks so much for the explanation- and the helpful vids!

7:17
10:40
Would be nice to do:
9:56
15:03
14:36
13:10

So when mining, I came across these crimson grass looking things on the stone blocks, do these spread the crimson as well?
Crimson Grass only grows on dirt blocks, so if you saw something red growing on stone blocks it was maybe some moss perhaps?
Glad i found this episode right away after going to hardmode instead of way after
Nice!
@@salendrak Same my first plantera bulb spawnet at the raly top of the jungle, and i got fcked XD
That’s why I don’t spend much time on building before I get the clentaminator
Followed all steps except the keep your pylons safe part and omg the evil spreads so damn fast!
Yup! It certainly can do that!!
if you want to complete the bestiary you should look out for pre-hardmode rare creatures
Ooooooh good point, I forgot to mention that! But then, I almost never even open the bestiary soooooo...😆

I'm building my first ever cavern farming area as you've described, making it plently big enough. I was wondering if there is a more detailed guide for the other platforms that are in yours (spawning areas to the side and above?)
Thank you for all your videos, really enjoying my first playthrough
I just throw things around wherever. You basically just want a place to stand and sometimes recover that's a bit up and out of the action, while still keeping you in the centralized location so that stuff will continue to spawn just beyond the edges of your screen.
0:46 say that again...
Eh?
???
How brain rotted are u dude 😱
nice video, i started a world a few days ago, planned to play with a friend but he kinda bailed so im goin through master mode alone rn, every other world I have had, the biome spread has been a little issue but im trying to make sure this time its all under control. thanks again :)
I firmly believe that when it comes to preparing for hardmode, the proverbial ounce of prevention is worth the pound of cure!
And honestly, post Labor of Love update I'm not sure it's even worth protecting villages before entering hardmode, so long as you check the V right away once it has formed.
ive been playing terraria for years and this still helped a lot haha
Awesome!!
Bro so we can just make elevator to protect our biomes?
basicly yes
See I am Turkish and they are real nazar s here. Though they are called nazar gems and it’s believed that it protects you from karma
You pronounced it right
Yeah, I remember reading something about them when I made the video. They're a real-world thing!
Thanks for this guide im about to enter hardmode but luckily this video pops up i already finished my pylon village but didnt contain it properly thanks for this guide imma take my time deserves an sub!❤
Glad I could help!!
i only had like snow jungle and forest pylon
I may or may not have dug 30+ hellevators in pre-hardmode to control biome spread.
That's a lot of hellevators - I think you'll be good!! 😆
I find it cool how you reply to every comment, that’s a lot of work!! I’m doubtful of going into hard mode since I have a small world from before 1.4 and think that it’d get infected too quickly. Good work 👍😁
It's a labor of love responding to all these comments 💖
If your world was generated pre 1.4 I would definitely just go ahead and make a new one, and definitely go medium if not large!
@@salendrak I was planning on that but I have everything on that one world. I’ve built a pylon network and explored practically the entire world. I’ve made four gap wide tunnels on each side of the crimsons, so that shouldn’t spread, but the hard mode V wouldn’t be blocked
Im to late My whole world become crimson
Doh!!
Woah, because of how good quality your video is,i thought you have 200k+ subs, wow, only 35k+??
Ok I’ll definitely sub.
Thanks! Someday I'll crack that 100k mark 😆
Ngl this video really demotivated me from playing..
How so? All this stuff is optional, so if it sounds like a lot of work, feel free to just dive in to Hardmode!
I am about to start playing again and this is exactly what i need, tanks mate 👌🏼very good video
Glad I could help!
Year later and this legend is STILL answering questions
I have keeping my in-box clean OCD issues 😆
This guide really helped me notice what i should do before hardmode! Thanks.
Glad I could help!
Started playing terria about a week ago and this video helped me out a lot and what to prepare for 👍
Awesome! I hope you're having a blast learning the game!!
@@salendrakjust asking, does the dirt wall continues the spread of evil biomes? Cause in my world it shows signs of dirt block being corrupted
This is an absolute gem of a video, nicely done friend
Thanks!! 😁
Oh okay!
And would lining the vertical parts of the tunnels with non-dirt blocks still protect it?
@@thesockstealeriscomingforyou Yup!!
This is the best guide I have seen so far, it really helped out a lot
Thanks!!
One of these days I really need to play that mod! One of these days....
Guessing ur already in hardmode but anyways... Calamity makes early hardmode a lot easier. They nerfed a lot of enemies and made it to where they spawn after the mechanical bosses.
