*Labor of Love Changes* The 1.4.4 update changed when you can get the Leaf Wings, and they are now only sold after Plantera has been defeated. Best options now are to farm Souls of Light or Night, Feathers from Harpies, and Souls of Flight from high-altitude Wyverns, and craft the Angel Wings or Demon Wings. Another option is to farm Pixies in the surface Hallow and craft the Fairy Wings. Also, smashing altars no longer has a chance to cause a random block to convert to evil / hallow, so feel free to smash as many altars as you want. Ore yield from crates has also been decreased, but since you can freely smash altars, there's no reason to fish up crates to get ore. And there are now Crimson and Corruption versions of jungle grass, so the evil biomes will no longer destroy the jungle by converting the mud into dirt, making it MUCH less important to protect the jungle.

Something worth noting is that in 1.4.4, evil biome blocks will NOT convert mud to dirt, and evil grass will directly grow on mud instead, making jungle restoration a heck of a lot easier
Seeing you be so chill with your base being corrupted or crimsonified (as I like to call it) just makes me know that having the your very base get corrupted isn't really that bad
It's really just a temporary minor inconvenience. I've heard of people starting over with a new world when something like that happens, but the way I see it, it's just a curve-ball that gives you a little bit of added challenge!

Somehow the wall of flesh spawned spontaneously while I was in the underworld farming for the obsidian rose and now I'm accidentally in hard mode without being prepared at all 😅 I'm a first time player, your guide is the only guide I've found to be help- and useful for complete beginners! Thank you for the hard work!! :)
I frequently turn off summoned minions for exactly that reason when I'm in the underworld. You never know when they might kill a voodoo demon over the lava!
Im weird and I like the drills/chainsaws. Slightly faster is nice, and I like the feeling of progressing from primitive tools to higher tech things like drills. And I’m not going to lie, I like the noise too lol.
This has been a massive help I broke my ankle and was bored out of my mind until I found this, I'm now a little over 20 hours in and loving the game even though I'm getting wrecked in hardmode. Thanks for all the help so far :)

Terraria is like Skyrim for me.. in that I find I like the idea of finishing Terraria more than I like actually finishing Terraria. I always start a new game, all excited and ready to finish it.. build my starter house, kill the first four bosses, gear up and get ready for Wall or Flesh, get anxiety about hardmode, watch some TH-cam videos about it, and then stop playing. I’ve done this cycle like 8 times and I’m doing it again right now.
I just want to thank you because you helped me out so much when I first started playing a few months ago. I have gone so far, I almost got the angler achievements I think I have about 167 done or something close. But it’s crazy how little I knew while now I am fighting the hardest bosses in calamity.
What did you do about the corruption or crimson? I didn’t prepare tunnels because I beat the wall of flesh super early lol now a lot of my jungle is corrupted

I want to add something that was neither suggested in your pre-hardmode or early hardmode prep. In addition to making arenas for bosses and farms, those who are new to Terraria should know that crafting Holy Arrows in a great thing to do before even thinking about fighting any mechanical bosses in hardmode. Either before starting hardmode or as you start in hardmode, you should set up some areas above ground for artifical biomes. One in particular is an artifical Hallowed Biome, dirt can be used but make sure you grab some hallowed seeds from the Dryad before you lay down your dirt for your artifical Biome. You will need this so that you can start spawning in Unicorns and Pixies so that you can farm the Pixie Dust and Unicorn horns (respectively) you need 3 pixie dust and a unicorn horn along with 200 arrows to craft Holy Arrows. Holy Arrows, along with the Daedalus Stormbow (Unreal modification) should allow you to melt through the mechanical bosses
Oh, Holy Arrows along with Daedalus Stormbow will most definitely be getting covered in the mech boss guides! I've always just used my naturally spawned hallow areas, unless the V misses the surface forest, in which case I'll just plant some hallow blocks somewhere else to convert a new area. I've never found it necessary to make a specific artificial biome for farming stuff, but if you like terraforming, then go for it!
@@salendrak question. I entered hard mode a little too early. I'm only now setting up pylons. I'm trying to navigate the world but am dying very easily. My problem is I did not explore underground enough and can't figure out where my V is. But when I explore underground I get destroyed. But I'm really paranoid that if I destroy an alter I'll lose my world to corruption. Should my order of progress be: Set pylons up in each biom Quarantine pylons Destroy alerts Mine/figure out where V is? If I naturally let the V go will I be doomed?
Yeah, the spread of the Corruption/Crimson is definitely a problem. In my most recent playthrough, I've tried to isolate the Corruption, but my Ice Biome still ended up getting corrupted, probably from the underground up. Cleaning that shit up will take some time and I think the Clentaminator is also quite expensive.
By the time you can buy it, the Clentaminator isn't too hard to afford. Unless the Goblin Tinkerer has been stingy with good mods lol Overall though biome spread isn't as big of a problem as it was before the Labor of Love update. The lack of random blocks converting when altars are smashed will really decrease the amount of biome spread, especially if you contain the evil areas that are present when the world is created.
After accidentally summoning the wall of flesh and being woefully unprepared for hardmode (including a crimson diagonal that has wrecked my cavern pylon and threatens my forest one.) this is a huge help. Thanks for making an easy to follow guide.
Happy to be of service! And your experience is why I usually put my main base in the very center of the world, with the cavern pylon directly below it. MUCH less likely to have any V issues that way!
I picked up Terraria about two weeks ago and have put +/- 40 hours into the game already 😂 I had no idea what I was doing for the first day or two but then I came across your guide and it saved my life! I spent three days in other worlds because when I defeated the wof I couldn't get pwn hammer I just got it and smashed 2 altars now I am watching ur vids to learn what to do
When I enter hard mode I almost always do a suicide rush for the altars. There are plenty of things I could do to prepare, but I enjoy breaking a dozen altars in a row before getting swarmed by wraiths and either dying or just coming close. It’s not practical, but it’s like a tradition for me.

not gonna lie when i entered hardmode for the first time i quit almost instantly, because the biome spread seemed to be really fast and most of my npcs kept dying in blood moons. Thanks for the tutorial! I'll try to play hardmode again but with all the things you recommended.
These videos are my bible, I recently started playing terraria after having it for a while and not playing due to being overwhelmed by the amount of content early game. I was able to get help from a friend for starting and figured the rest out myself, I'm now past the Wall of Flesh and he's acting like a proud dad lmao. When he's busy these videos are a huge help. It's so nice to have things explained to me like I'm a child just learning a new skill, can't wait to beat classic so I can try my hand at master mode!

Thanks!! I do try to put as much value as I can into these videos, but that does tend to make them a bit dense. If you're newer to the game though, re-watching is definitely a good idea, as sometimes topics that don't make a lot of sense the first time you hear them suddenly click once you have a bit more experience playing the game. As for mech bosses - hopefully in the next month or so! I had been meaning to get to them a while ago, but keep getting sidetracked with other stuff 😉

Timeframe is usually pretty variable depending on how busy I am and what other projects I might be working on. I'll hopefully have another one out sometime in December though.

I was having a rough time with it, just barely running out of runway. Lost like 3 or 4 times. Then I remembered the star cannon was a thing *first time beating it
The Uzi is a pain to get. But once you get it, it will carry you all the way till pre plantera. Even then it can be used as a secondary weapon. Grinding for it is worth it.
Tip: if you want a specific type of kre to be blessed, like you want palladium and not cobalt, save your game before smashing altar and if you get cobalt just close without saving and smash again. That way, you can get any ore you want
How do you do that? Close without saving? I've never tried to savescum in this game lol, but then I also don't care which variant of ore I ever get soooo 😆
legit smashed 12 altars without even knowing this first. crazy to think nothing too bad actually happen, despite the fact that i was bracing myself to face the consequences later on.

This helps a lot since i went in mostly blind with terraria and got killed 52 times by jungle enimies (those dang turtles), but right now im mining for platinum.

Well good news - all this stuff I talk about here can also be done in early hardmode, though you'll want to act fast to protect areas from the V and other evil areas spreading. But at least you don't have to worry about altars converting random blocks anymore!

I find hard mode so much harder on expert mode compared to my normal difficulty playtrough. Im stuck defeating any of the mechanical bosses. But i will get them soon i hope! This guide helps a lot !
Love how the surface Crimson side of the V hit only my jungle and leads right through my hellevator at the bottom reaching the other side of it but left my villages alone
I remember that on my second playthrough I took up on fishing in early hardmode and a Toxicarp got into my hands really quickly. I did not quite grasp the rarity and strength of that drop, nonetheless I appreciated it for cheesing early hardmode
Whats really sad about my world is that when I defeated the jungle, my entire jungle was filled with crimson and my pylon village was corrupted, there is no jungle left, and since I just got into hardmore I can’t do anything. Can probably get fixed with cletaminator
That shouldn't be a problem now that they changed it so that the evil biomes don't destroy the jungle - it just changes it into an evil version of jungle. But yeah, to restore it you'll just need to use the clentaminator, and all should be fine!

@@salendrakim good now, i beat all mech bosses by getting frost armor and using excaliber, daedalus stormbow, mega shark, and onyx blaster. Even plantera, i just made the terra blade and I already cleared most of the crimson on my jungle, there is still crimson under the jungle but It doesn’t effect my town.
Man, I wish the infection spread option from journey mode was on world gen settings, or as a perma buff item. I genuinely only play on the journey version of expert/master just because of it
I've never really been much bothered by biome spread, but from what I've heard, there are plenty of players who really don't like it. I bet there are mods to remove biome spread in non-journey worlds though, but those are only available on PC...
Bro your villages are insane. I just basically made a large underground hotel for all my NPCs at my spawn point. Guess I need to look into side villages instead.
While there's certainly nothing wrong with underground hotels (so long as you don't care about vendor discounts), having multiple pylon villages so you can warp around the world sure comes in handy!

Queen slime is something we should get next, because even with titanium armor, legendary titanium sword, dark lance, titanium spear, murderous night's edge, weak sunfury, hel-fire yoyo spectre boots, cloud in a bottle, angel wings, stinger necklace, and charm of myths. I seem to be having difficulty with hard mode bosses overall. I have been able to get queen slime down to 1000 hp and spasmatism into his second phase! Do you have any recommendations to improve my gear using hard mode ingredients (eg. Cloud in a bottle turned into sandstorm in a bottle using a forbidden fragment, something I am looking out for) or anything I could do without (Like swapping out the charm of myth for an emblem)
Having a class emblem (that you later upgrade) is pretty standard once you're in Hardmode. I'll do a guide on the different mech bosses eventually, but generally speaking you want a BIG arena to fight them in, and want as much movement speed as you can so you can keep your distance from them while using ranged weapons to whittle them down. Common first boss is Destroyer with Daedalus Stormbow and Holy Arrows. That combo got nerfed a while back, but is still pretty effective. Just not as ridiculously OP as it was before.
early hardmode always felt like a chore to me...i always felt underleveled for anything and farming and getting the dawn ores it was just so...annoying and boring...i dropped the game several times at this point of the game...the only thing i defeated was queen slime...i am planning on going back to it, hopefully your tips will help me

Nope! I've had the V directly hit my base before. I just moved the pylon to a nearby forest area and kept some NPCs there until I downed a mech boss, got the Clentaminator, and cleaned everything up. Inconvenient, but definitely not catastrophic!
I just bet wall of flesh, went to check on my dryad in the jungle and realised the the corruption is in the middle of the jungle really close to my village
Doh! Yeah, that can happen. You'll probably need to set up a new jungle village somewhere else for the time being. But at least the corruption no longer destroys the jungle anymore!
If you actually fish prehardmode and have either the golden fishing rod or sitting ducks fishing pole along with most of the fishing gear and journeyman/master bait I think it's 100% worth farming for biome weapons. It took me one well fed buff and fishing potion to farm the crystal serpent and toxicarp each. If you don't have any gear, then yeah it's not worth it to farm. But most people probably have some of the gear already if they use buff potions and fish for crates
As soon as hardmode starts get cobolt or mythral to make a drill THEN clean the corruption spreading. Drills have a waaaay faster speed at that point Rip sharkaxe😢
I’m a little bit of a new player and I just started a hard mode world by complete accident and this world was relatively new so it was not ready for the new world horrors I real-leased upon the world. I died a lot.
My Hallow spawned in my Jungle biome. Which is good because Hallow can't take over the jungle, but on the other hand... my Hallow is in the hardmode Jungle.

Terraria is like Skyrim for me.. in that I find I like the idea of finishing Terraria more than I like actually finishing Terraria. I always start a new game, all excited and ready to finish it.. build my starter house, kill the first four bosses, gear up and get ready for Wall or Flesh, get anxiety about hardmode, watch some TH-cam videos about it, and then stop playing. I’ve done this cycle like 8 times and I’m doing it again right now.
Heh - I never played Skyrim, but I did play Oblivion, and did the exact same thing!
I just want to thank you because you helped me out so much when I first started playing a few months ago. I have gone so far, I almost got the angler achievements I think I have about 167 done or something close. But it’s crazy how little I knew while now I am fighting the hardest bosses in calamity.

What did you do about the corruption or crimson? I didn’t prepare tunnels because I beat the wall of flesh super early lol now a lot of my jungle is corrupted

Welcome to the REAL game!!
I want to add something that was neither suggested in your pre-hardmode or early hardmode prep. In addition to making arenas for bosses and farms, those who are new to Terraria should know that crafting Holy Arrows in a great thing to do before even thinking about fighting any mechanical bosses in hardmode. Either before starting hardmode or as you start in hardmode, you should set up some areas above ground for artifical biomes. One in particular is an artifical Hallowed Biome, dirt can be used but make sure you grab some hallowed seeds from the Dryad before you lay down your dirt for your artifical Biome. You will need this so that you can start spawning in Unicorns and Pixies so that you can farm the Pixie Dust and Unicorn horns (respectively) you need 3 pixie dust and a unicorn horn along with 200 arrows to craft Holy Arrows. Holy Arrows, along with the Daedalus Stormbow (Unreal modification) should allow you to melt through the mechanical bosses
Oh, Holy Arrows along with Daedalus Stormbow will most definitely be getting covered in the mech boss guides! I've always just used my naturally spawned hallow areas, unless the V misses the surface forest, in which case I'll just plant some hallow blocks somewhere else to convert a new area. I've never found it necessary to make a specific artificial biome for farming stuff, but if you like terraforming, then go for it!

@@salendrak question. I entered hard mode a little too early. I'm only now setting up pylons. I'm trying to navigate the world but am dying very easily. My problem is I did not explore underground enough and can't figure out where my V is. But when I explore underground I get destroyed. But I'm really paranoid that if I destroy an alter I'll lose my world to corruption.
Should my order of progress be:
Set pylons up in each biom
Quarantine pylons
Destroy alerts
Mine/figure out where V is?
If I naturally let the V go will I be doomed?

Yeah, the spread of the Corruption/Crimson is definitely a problem. In my most recent playthrough, I've tried to isolate the Corruption, but my Ice Biome still ended up getting corrupted, probably from the underground up. Cleaning that shit up will take some time and I think the Clentaminator is also quite expensive.
By the time you can buy it, the Clentaminator isn't too hard to afford. Unless the Goblin Tinkerer has been stingy with good mods lol
Overall though biome spread isn't as big of a problem as it was before the Labor of Love update. The lack of random blocks converting when altars are smashed will really decrease the amount of biome spread, especially if you contain the evil areas that are present when the world is created.

After accidentally summoning the wall of flesh and being woefully unprepared for hardmode (including a crimson diagonal that has wrecked my cavern pylon and threatens my forest one.) this is a huge help. Thanks for making an easy to follow guide.
Happy to be of service! And your experience is why I usually put my main base in the very center of the world, with the cavern pylon directly below it. MUCH less likely to have any V issues that way!

I picked up Terraria about two weeks ago and have put +/- 40 hours into the game already 😂 I had no idea what I was doing for the first day or two but then I came across your guide and it saved my life! Currently, I am in hard mode with the “V” kinda contained and the mech bosses defeated! Thanks for the great info.

I spent three days in other worlds because when I defeated the wof I couldn't get pwn hammer I just got it and smashed 2 altars now I am watching ur vids to learn what to do
Interesting! The wall drops the hammer every time it's killed, and all the loot should be in the square of evil blocks that form where you kill it.
When I enter hard mode I almost always do a suicide rush for the altars. There are plenty of things I could do to prepare, but I enjoy breaking a dozen altars in a row before getting swarmed by wraiths and either dying or just coming close. It’s not practical, but it’s like a tradition for me.

If you have a Night's Edge, the 1.4.4 changes to it should keep any wraiths off of you no problem.

not gonna lie when i entered hardmode for the first time i quit almost instantly, because the biome spread seemed to be really fast and most of my npcs kept dying in blood moons. Thanks for the tutorial! I'll try to play hardmode again but with all the things you recommended.

These videos are my bible, I recently started playing terraria after having it for a while and not playing due to being overwhelmed by the amount of content early game. I was able to get help from a friend for starting and figured the rest out myself, I'm now past the Wall of Flesh and he's acting like a proud dad lmao. When he's busy these videos are a huge help. It's so nice to have things explained to me like I'm a child just learning a new skill, can't wait to beat classic so I can try my hand at master mode!

I think I was the 4,000th like! Great video, and super informative! I have a way to go until I'm ready for hard mode on my current player, but I'll be coming back here frequently when I'm there! I love how you layout your videos--they are jam-packed with awesome information, but can be too much for me to take in all at once so I frequently find myself re-watching portions and/or coming back them, but I never get bored with seeing the same information again!

Thanks!! I do try to put as much value as I can into these videos, but that does tend to make them a bit dense. If you're newer to the game though, re-watching is definitely a good idea, as sometimes topics that don't make a lot of sense the first time you hear them suddenly click once you have a bit more experience playing the game. As for mech bosses - hopefully in the next month or so! I had been meaning to get to them a while ago, but keep getting sidetracked with other stuff 😉

I have found this series to be extremely helpful! Thank you for making these. Is there any timeframe on when you will release the next hardmode guide? (Totally understand if you don’t know, but thought I’d ask) I’m a first time player and am a little apprehensive to go into hardmode without a plan haha
Timeframe is usually pretty variable depending on how busy I am and what other projects I might be working on. I'll hopefully have another one out sometime in December though.

Nothing to worry about - that's how it USED to be, but the 1.4.4 update removed that. Smash altars to your heart's content with no fear!!

The Uzi is a pain to get. But once you get it, it will carry you all the way till pre plantera. Even then it can be used as a secondary weapon. Grinding for it is worth it.
I honestly am not sure if I've ever gotten it when I would have wanted to use it!
Tip: if you want a specific type of kre to be blessed, like you want palladium and not cobalt, save your game before smashing altar and if you get cobalt just close without saving and smash again. That way, you can get any ore you want
How do you do that? Close without saving? I've never tried to savescum in this game lol, but then I also don't care which variant of ore I ever get soooo 😆

Wowowowow this is a huge gamechanger! About to head into hardmode on my current playthrough and been dreading this the most
legit smashed 12 altars without even knowing this first. crazy to think nothing too bad actually happen, despite the fact that i was bracing myself to face the consequences later on.

This helps a lot since i went in mostly blind with terraria and got killed 52 times by jungle enimies (those dang turtles), but right now im mining for platinum.
Those turtles are BRUTAL in early hardmode!

Well good news - all this stuff I talk about here can also be done in early hardmode, though you'll want to act fast to protect areas from the V and other evil areas spreading. But at least you don't have to worry about altars converting random blocks anymore!

I find hard mode so much harder on expert mode compared to my normal difficulty playtrough. Im stuck defeating any of the mechanical bosses. But i will get them soon i hope! This guide helps a lot !

Love how the surface Crimson side of the V hit only my jungle and leads right through my hellevator at the bottom reaching the other side of it but left my villages alone
Sometimes you get lucky with the V's placement!
I remember that on my second playthrough I took up on fishing in early hardmode and a Toxicarp got into my hands really quickly. I did not quite grasp the rarity and strength of that drop, nonetheless I appreciated it for cheesing early hardmode

Whats really sad about my world is that when I defeated the jungle, my entire jungle was filled with crimson and my pylon village was corrupted, there is no jungle left, and since I just got into hardmore I can’t do anything. Can probably get fixed with cletaminator
That shouldn't be a problem now that they changed it so that the evil biomes don't destroy the jungle - it just changes it into an evil version of jungle. But yeah, to restore it you'll just need to use the clentaminator, and all should be fine!

@@salendrakim good now, i beat all mech bosses by getting frost armor and using excaliber, daedalus stormbow, mega shark, and onyx blaster. Even plantera, i just made the terra blade and I already cleared most of the crimson on my jungle, there is still crimson under the jungle but It doesn’t effect my town.

Man, I wish the infection spread option from journey mode was on world gen settings, or as a perma buff item. I genuinely only play on the journey version of expert/master just because of it
I've never really been much bothered by biome spread, but from what I've heard, there are plenty of players who really don't like it. I bet there are mods to remove biome spread in non-journey worlds though, but those are only available on PC...
When I went into hardmode I knew the hallow and crimson would spread fast. BUT I DIDNT THINK IT WOULD SPREAD THAT FAST😭😭😭😭

I just basically made a large underground hotel for all my NPCs at my spawn point.
Guess I need to look into side villages instead.
While there's certainly nothing wrong with underground hotels (so long as you don't care about vendor discounts), having multiple pylon villages so you can warp around the world sure comes in handy!

For anyone not aware, the Witch Doctor no longer sells the Leaf Wings until AFTER defeating Plantera in the latest version

Queen slime is something we should get next, because even with titanium armor, legendary titanium sword, dark lance, titanium spear, murderous night's edge, weak sunfury, hel-fire yoyo spectre boots, cloud in a bottle, angel wings, stinger necklace, and charm of myths. I seem to be having difficulty with hard mode bosses overall. I have been able to get queen slime down to 1000 hp and spasmatism into his second phase! Do you have any recommendations to improve my gear using hard mode ingredients (eg. Cloud in a bottle turned into sandstorm in a bottle using a forbidden fragment, something I am looking out for) or anything I could do without (Like swapping out the charm of myth for an emblem)

Having a class emblem (that you later upgrade) is pretty standard once you're in Hardmode. I'll do a guide on the different mech bosses eventually, but generally speaking you want a BIG arena to fight them in, and want as much movement speed as you can so you can keep your distance from them while using ranged weapons to whittle them down. Common first boss is Destroyer with Daedalus Stormbow and Holy Arrows. That combo got nerfed a while back, but is still pretty effective. Just not as ridiculously OP as it was before.

early hardmode always felt like a chore to me...i always felt underleveled for anything and farming and getting the dawn ores it was just so...annoying and boring...i dropped the game several times at this point of the game...the only thing i defeated was queen slime...i am planning on going back to it, hopefully your tips will help me

Leaf wings no longer sold by the witch doctor at night in the jungle, instead they're sold after defeating plantera, instead make Harpy or Fair wings maybe Frozen

Nope! I've had the V directly hit my base before. I just moved the pylon to a nearby forest area and kept some NPCs there until I downed a mech boss, got the Clentaminator, and cleaned everything up. Inconvenient, but definitely not catastrophic!

I just bet wall of flesh, went to check on my dryad in the jungle and realised the the corruption is in the middle of the jungle really close to my village
Doh! Yeah, that can happen. You'll probably need to set up a new jungle village somewhere else for the time being. But at least the corruption no longer destroys the jungle anymore!
You can get the forbidden armour using forbidden fragments and Hardmode ore, so summoners don't have to wait for hallowed armour.
It's true!
If you actually fish prehardmode and have either the golden fishing rod or sitting ducks fishing pole along with most of the fishing gear and journeyman/master bait I think it's 100% worth farming for biome weapons. It took me one well fed buff and fishing potion to farm the crystal serpent and toxicarp each.
If you don't have any gear, then yeah it's not worth it to farm. But most people probably have some of the gear already if they use buff potions and fish for crates
Yeah, high fishing power makes a HUGE difference for your odds on getting those rare items. Worth it if you have it, not worth it if you don't!
As soon as hardmode starts get cobolt or mythral to make a drill THEN clean the corruption spreading. Drills have a waaaay faster speed at that point

I’m a little bit of a new player and I just started a hard mode world by complete accident and this world was relatively new so it was not ready for the new world horrors I real-leased upon the world. I died a lot.

My Hallow spawned in my Jungle biome. Which is good because Hallow can't take over the jungle, but on the other hand... my Hallow is in the hardmode Jungle.
