  • You should be grateful you have a job! How many times has someone said that to you every time you vented that you hate your job?
While most people are indeed grateful to have a job, the reality is that many of them are not happy for more reasons than one. From low pay to toxic work environments to no growth prospects, workers experience it all. The fact is, many people's morale is low because they feel unsatisfied with the work they do.
A global study revealed that 45% of Americans hate their jobs so much that they wouldn't wish it on their worst enemy. Yikes.
This week, I share some personal stories of my past job experiences and highlight a few people on Tik Tok who explain in great detail why they hate their job and have either quit or are looking to get out.
Tune in now. Watch the entire video to the end. Take part in the Question of the Day. I want to hear from you.

I hate my job because I am unable to see the fruits of my labor nor am I able to care for my patients correctly because of the red tape enacted by the government and insurance companies. It’s not that I’m not grateful to be working. I’m a nurse. And the healthcare sector is a willing participant in the deaths of people at this point. My job is out of alignment with my values at this point.

I had a cat for 21yrs. I got him when I was 15. He had been with me/beside me longer than my own family. He was struggling & dying on the bathroom floor & I had to leave him because "I had to go to work." When i came home, he was gone. He died alone. THAT is the biggest regret of my life. I am a retired boomer who went BACK to work after being off for a year. (I actually got bored being off!) However, I work part-time and never on Sundays. This time, I'm doing what I want to do without being responsible for others. I love my fellow boomer co-workers who returned to work for the same reasons as me. Because we're great workers, we get USED, not utilized! That's why many good people hate their jobs. Many managers/supervisors need to learn HOW to stop using people and utilize their workers. When my crew and me quit, these people will be in a world of hurt!

    • @ThisBahamianGyal
      @ThisBahamianGyal  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

There are so many people who look forward to retiring, but honestly, I would imagine that gets boring pretty quickly. I have been off from work due to surgeries, ailments, etc and ALWAYS want to return to work because it gets a bit boring. I love having more seasoned people in the workplace, older folks who can guide the rest of us or give us a different perspective. But, it's like you said...you get used, not utilized and that is MOST unfortunate and a waste of your skills/talent.

I’m a grocery clerk. Mostly I love my job. I get to talk all day to all kinds of people. When I hate my job is when someone comes through my line treating me less than human, like I’m below them. There is a specific kind of person who won’t look at me, nor speak to me, nor even acknowledge my presence. And I can tell when they walk up to my stand, just by lack of eye contact, their attempt to demoralize me has begun. I just got home from work. Today was a great day ❤

Baby girl, those types of people are THE MOST INSECURE people on the planet. Secure people do not feel the need to make someone feel beneath them. You are doing an honest living and it makes my heart smile to hear that you LOVE your job. That is true happiness. Those types of people are sad and bitter. I hate it when people act like others are beneath them. I'm the type of person who stands up for workers. Because I know most of you can't talk back (or at least aren't supposed to talk back to the customer) lol...I will speak up if I see a fellow customer treating them rudely. No, ma'am...not on my watch. Thanks for sharing your story and I am soooo happy you had a great day today!

If not for poor management, I could love retail. I love making the store clean the way I’d want to shop it. I have a lot of energy while stocking shelves and it’s fun to get creative to fix planogram issues only to make it look better than what corporate wanted. Kind customers always restore my faith in humanity and kind leads make me want to work even harder. If it weren’t for the bad customers/leads I’d really have no issue. But they’re the minority. The team leads right above us understand who can be left alone and who actually needs to be managed + to what extent. But the ones who spend most of their time in the office gossiping (or in a corner where quiet-ol-me can hear them), suddenly decide to micromanage us without knowing the game plan then get mad when nothing gets done as a result of their bad managing. I almost snapped at a temporary ETL for saying something condescending to my fav TL (that wasn’t even her fault) so publicly. Can’t wait for him to leave. The thing that stops me from rage quitting is thinking, “Oh well, I’ll do my best and clock out, the rest is their problem.” 😂

In 2008 I quit my finance job to pursue my side hustle full-time. At that time I was so excited to leave because I absolutely hated my job.
In these past six years I've had my fair share of ups and downs financially. During those down times I always wondered if I left my job too soon. Sometimes I even envied those who had a consistent income.
Despite all of that the benefit of being in control of my own financial destiny keeps me going.
Whether you move to another job where you find it to be more rewarding or you launch a business on your own- you have to do what's right for you no matter what anyone says. I attempted to get another 9 to 5:00 job and I quit within a week and a half. It's just not right for me. Best decision I made in 2024

He was an older man who stayed in his office all the time and kept hiring Management that stole from all the registers and I wasn't a manager or a supervisor because I worked for multiple parts of the parks department and didn't have the time, but I was put in charge of training and pretty much running things while the managers made a lot more money than me to steal from the registers and clock in and go back home. As a gen x rebellious human this was the first time I'd ever preferred the strict boss.

I was blessed with a mom and dad who straight up told me that they do not care what I do for employment as long as I could survive with it one way or another. I'm 32 now and completely understand how lucky I am to have that. I always had a knack for fixing computers in both hardware and software growing up. I was happy that I grew up in the timeframe when it was all becoming commonplace and mainstream. So for me, tinkering with that stuff was just fun and more like a hobby. Fast forward through my school years and I took as many computer related classes as I could. They had XP's at that time and worked on them probably the most even though I went through 95, 98, and even the odd variants of OS's and some DOS in the beginning. I think was at the VERY tail end of DOS. I honestly learned more on it as an adult than growing up but oh well. So naturally I went to college for IT. Took the classes, took some certifications, even tried a basic tech support job.
Long story short. I just didn't like it in a employment sense. I guess I just enjoyed it more as a hobby. So again my parents were great and said that's fine just try to find something. So after that I got a job just at a grocery store. I learned two giant things at that job.
    1. I was great at customer service.
    2. I loved working with money.
I was TERRIBLE at math my entire school career, but I was fantastic at math when it came to anything financial. I should also say that I probably would not be a good accountant though. I always say I'm good with money in a realistic sense, like day to day money handling. So I worked there for a while, got promoted twice, and ended up with a position with good pay and very good health insurance. Did that for about 2 years and they changed the system I used for that position and it became a total nightmare. I hated it. So after an extended period of time I just flat out told them I don't like my position anymore and I'm quitting. Left on good terms and never really had any issues outside the realm of standard when dealing with higher ups in a corporation.
Worked another grocery store for about 3 years. COVID happened and things just didn't end up working out.
Didn't work for about a year because of my health, was hospitalized 6 times in one year, lost my home, my partner, and totaled my car. Just one of those tough times you have to go through. Which I was warned about by my parents growing up. Trouble comes in 3's I think is what my grandma told me once but anyway...
So I got better and decided to get a part time job to start back out. I live in a small town and we have a gas station and a Dollar General. Applied, got the job, and was told that I was probably only going to get one or two days week. That was perfectly fine as I was trying to ease my way back in.
    Two years later
    1. I'm still working there.
    2. I've been promoted twice and received two raises. (I don't believe I'm truly getting paid what I'm worth but that kinda fails into what you said about they money isn't always everything.)
    3. My boss is amazing and so supportive of me in every aspect of my life.
    4. I get about 30-35 hours a week.
    5. I like every person I work with
and for me the biggest thing, I like my job. That's really the crux of it for me.
So I'm doing me, got a car again, getting my debt down significantly, and have a wonderful relationship with my boss and my parents.
Sometimes what you're good at isn't always what you end up doing employment wise, and that's fine.
If you find a job and you can say you enjoy it, for the love of god hold on to it. It's like finding the Holy Grail.

    But....
This was not what Im trained to do. Not what I spent time, money to do. The stress of exams. Sleepless nights studying and writing papers. Since the passing of the Covid vaxx mandate, I've been working outside of the healthcare field. Now the state is more laxed about the vaxx. And I do have a fake covid vaxx card which I may use....
But this job I have... The money is good, the job is fun, my co-workers are cool or I don't have to talk to them. Hell, I don't have to look at them if I don't want to. I feel like: ok get back in the clinic/hospital...but I don't want to leave this job.

I couldn’t take that they wouldn’t even let their workers nurse themselves to health!

I have been in a couple of positions I absolutely hated. The jobs were uninspiring and didn't fulfill some notion of happiness at work, but they paid well and the time off was fantastic. The reason I hated them had nothing to do with being unfulfilling...it was my coworkers. Coworkers that were narcissistic, control obsessed, drama filled, some of whom reveled in misery, etc., and the supervisor who turned a blind eye. I can bring my passion to just about any job, but I can't deal with a corrosive toxic environment.

I like the points made in the video but i wanted to also add some counter arguments to whats presented, as well as my final thoughts.
I think some people are in a job they like, but the pay is not enough to make it sustainable. For example, some people are built for the customer service industry, and they love helping and they do it with a genuine smile. But most of the jobs in that field do not pay well. With rising rates of inflation, its difficult to save up for a car or house with that level of pay.
Another thing to consider is standard of living. Some people in high paying positions create an expensive standard of living. Its hard to walk away from that knowing you may have to change how you live, especially if you're already locked into an expensive car or mortgage / rent payment.
I think you addressed this though when you talked about diversifying your skillset and taking the time to learn something new. One must take the time out from somewhere, even if its just 15 mins a day, and make it work.
Overall great video though. Im a new subscriber and love your stuff! 😊

My career being a mail carrier wouldn't be so bad if the people I deliver to show some empathy, compassion and understanding that I'm doing a hard physical job every day.
Also if all of management and the supervisors do their part and are transparent everything works smoothly.
What I like about my job?
1.) It's an easy job (mentally) to do. Just walk and deliver.
    2.) Some customers are cool.
3.) I can make a great living doing this with a full benefits and retirement package.
(I'm on track to retire by 58. That's really my own reason to work is that I want to retire early. Don't care about family, kids or relationships. Nope.)
4.) If the mail is light that's also good. Less stress on my body.
    5.) Serving my community.
What I hate about my job?
    1.) Karens
(Entitled people in general piss me off. There's a special place in hell for these people.)
2.) People who can't control their dogs.
(I don't care if you think your dog is friendly and won't bite me. Standards are standards. If it's unsafe I'm not delivering to you. Period.)
3.) I have no control over what comes in the mail or what packages are given to me.
(Whatever the sorting machine spits out is what I deliver. Like it or not.)
    4.) Co-workers who don't play their role.
(Just do your job so we can all go home at a reasonable time. Please.)
5.) If management and supervisors would communicate better on the tasks I need to do.
(Nothing is more frustrating when you are told you have an 8 hour day but then they throw more work at you. FML.)

    • @ThisBahamianGyal
      @ThisBahamianGyal  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

This is true, too. We have some really crappy employees out there. But, managers have to be careful to not ascribe certain behaviours to all of the employees. Because they could be making a mistake. I find that some managers get lies because the don't accept the truth. My old employee told me her dog died, which was true. Now, had she said this to another manager, they would have said, "and???" So, that employee might have had to say a family member is dying in order to get some sympathy.

I went to school for teaching. I’m in my second year teaching. I taught 1st grade last year, and didn’t like it. I am teaching middle school this year, and I’m mentally struggling. I’m tired of how I am treated by the students and parents. I’m tired of having so much work to do at home, because there is just not enough time during the school day. And I’m tired of not having enough time and mental capacity to do things like read and write. I love those things, but I just can’t. They say to do self care, but even when I do that, I feel bad because I’m slacking off on grading or whatever. But with the grading, I’m not getting to it because of god knows what else I have to do otherwise at school and what not. I’m glad I don’t have kids, because I honestly would be losing my mind and neglecting them for this job. But I might want kids but I don’t see me teaching and having kids at the same time. I don’t know how other teachers do it.
Sorry for the rant, but I think I’m going to quite at the end of the school year and go into something else. I don’t know what yet, but anything for a little while to find what I really want to do would be better than wasting away here. 1.Nowadays being “thankful” to have a job is far from being enough to motivate someone to work, our necessities are unnecessarily expensive, work hours are long as hell and some jobs pay are shit and they’re away from friends and family
    2. I don’t see what’s wrong with looking forward to leaving work for the day or getting annoyed that you have to work cuz at the end of the day nobody gets up in the morning hyped to go to work like they’re SpongeBob.Regardless if we have a good paying job and benefits and work with good people everyone has somewhere else they would much rather be at if they didn’t have to worry about work and bills

A lot of people quit/hate their jobs because of a laundry list of issues.
Management let problems build up over the years to line their pockets.
That leads to shTTy work environments for the slaves!
ShTTy work environments cause stress, depression, lack of sleep, overeating etc....
ShTTy pay for dealing with daily ShTTy work environments, make home life worse.
Now, I can't pay bills and do activities I once loved.
    Why would I stay there?

I'm 16 and sometimes I do ten hour shifts, I normally go to work everyday and I do like my job but some parts of it I hate, but like at the end of the month when I get a fat amount of money put in my bank account it's all just so worth it. But the other people my age like at school cba to do any work and idk anyone else my age who has a job or wants one, I think a big problem is like that a lot of young people cba to do things and give up really easy cuz they have the freedom and privelage to do so and they don't have worries in their mind of like oh what if I go homeless cuz they got their phones and tiktok to hide behind and take their mind off of it and they can see videos of other young people with the same lazy attitudes as them so they just think oh its okay cuz other people are like me.

When you are trying to escape an abusive home in a dead end town, you don’t get to be that selective. In a perfect world everyone would have a support system and not have to choose the least detrimental thing to their mental health before their dreams/ ambitions. Yes, you can move, but you need money and resources to do so. You almost have to have a job lined up and a place to stay before you go because without connections or room mates how are you going to make rent/afford housing? And you need food.
I did it anyway. With the last pennies I had. If I had not met my partner, I’d probably be dead. That’s bleak, but true.
And honestly, for me, the jobs weren’t the problem. I can be fulfilled anywhere as long as I have my health and never have to face the prospect of living at home again. It was the micro managing, out of touch, borderline sociopathic bosses I’ve had to deal with. Also, no one wants to actually train anybody. They pay lip service to it. Of course they do. But a lot of these places just want you to fall out of college graduation knowing everything. Just take a look at the requirements for ‘entry-level jobs.’ I’m am not saying this to have a pity party, but few things have traumatized me like dealing with the American workforce has. It’s so demoralizing. You couldn’t pay me to go through that again.

please explain this if you can. "I'm a dog mom, my family has paws, my family has fur, If my dogs don't like you, I won't either." Animals give me Unconditional love. I noticed that money is first and no human family is even mentioned.

I dont hate my job.... I'm a clinical research coordinator in the cardiothoracic sugery department for the main hospital in my city. However, i wish i was paid more. I have a bachelors degree in biological sciences, i had 3 years in coordination before starting this job, I'm now 1 year into it, and im the only CRC in that department. I make 50k a year. It's nothing to scoff at, but i had to take on another part time job just to make ends meet. The other problem is if there is a research study that requires me to work after hours, then that's what i have to do, but i dont get paid for thos extra hours, it's just part of my salary...but then i pose out on getting paid at my part time job. Then they gave me a raise this year of $0.39. i almsot laughed in their face.
I dont want to leave so soon, but i need more money to stay afloat, so i may need to find a different full time job.

What im confused about is how we have so many empty positions still. Where did all these people go? I know covid is why people left and stayed home but I thought everyone would have gone back to work by now but it seems that's not the case and it confuses me! I need to know how they're paying their bills.

I choose to be an account by myself lol but I did it mainly for the money and easy work. I don't hate my work itself but right now I'm unhappy with the company itself, my not enough workload (I'm mainly bored at work and underworked) and my colleagues.
I'm planning to leave at the end of this year.
Anyways choosing a career out of passion was not an option for me personally. I wanted to earn good money and so I was willing for a Job that I don't love.

I hope you get where you want to be and where God has you to be. I hope stock trading works out for you. I was shopping alongside a young, black girl a year ago and she was picking up a LOT of items. I said, "girl...you're doing damage in this store." We both laughed and she told me that she works as a trader and had a really good week. She said she had made something like $15k in a week. I was like, how do I get in on that. LOLOL.

The problem is, capitalism doesn't LET you pick your dream job. My dream job doesn't even exist anymore, it's being a clown! An ADULT party clown, not for kids! Capitalism makes everything so unfair and if your parents didn't have enough to put you in college, or you pick the wrong college, you are absolutely screwed and have to get SOMETHING, ANYTHING just so you can keep living in a home and have food to eat. Capitalism doesn't breed innovation, it breeds misery.

My job is very difficult. Sometimes I love it, but I hate some aspects of it. The unfortunate thing is the job market is very competitive and we have to pay our bills somehow. We dont always have the choice to love our job, because depending on our needs, location, credentials we have to take what we can get. I'd love to go back to school, but school is expensive. I also want to try YT and Tiktok just to see if I can make something of it. Currently I am a phone seggs operator, which I use a lot of skills I learned in my initial schooling for neuroscience so I can love those aspects. But some of the guys are just disgusting. Depraved. But then I think if they are having "fun" on calls with me, they arent doing that other stuff at that moment. Maybe I can fill that void for some time. But it is HARD when it comes to being iron willed. Most women dont last and I can't blame them, especially if they have children.
