  • Karens go off on innocent workers. What's new? This week, we'll watch a few unhinged Karens unleash their hatred on innocent fast-food workers, cashiers, and flight attendants. These Karens have no respect, no patience and no limits.
You'll see what everyday workers go through as they attempt to do their job. Thank goodness for social media because this is where we see so many of them getting exposed throwing their childish temper tantrums.
Be sure to weigh in, in the comments section. I want to hear from all of the customer service workers who have dealt with Karens in the past or do so every day on your job. Share your horror stories. Enjoy the video.

There is a severe lack of empathy throughout our entire society. It’s not just toward service workers, but they often feel the brunt of it. People have gotten way too comfortable thinking they can disrespect others, and it honestly seems to be getting worse.

Been in customer service for almost 30 yrs now and I take pride in how well I treat people no matter what. Once I was helping an older lady giving my best customer service and she stopped me and said "Do you think you could be a little nicer to me?" With an attitude. I was very confused because I was being helpful and nice but I learned some people, no matter how good you treat them, just refuse to be satisfied and want special treatment. 😬🙄

Oh that sounds like a narcissist wanting special attention/treatment. Nothing to take personally. In France, we definitely don't like to serve disrespectful customers and respect is something the customer has to show to the business as well. If they aren't respectful, they have to be ready to be escorted out of there...
If an older lady told me "Do you think you could be a little nicer to me?" While I was giving good customer service, or even just "neutral" customer service, I'd probably tell her "I WAS being nice, but if you don't like the way I communicate, please do go and talk to someone else here". Some things customers demand aren't included in the service package, and that includes being a bootlicker...

I give out samples in Costco. I had a man and his wife come to my stand and the man picks up the sample, examines it, and puts it back. So, I took it off the tray and threw it in the garbage and said "Sir, you cannot touch the sample and put it back if it is to be consumed by mouth". The wife tells me that her husband didn't eat it and that I should talk nicer to customers. Maybe I could have adjusted my tone, but damn! My husband and I slept on the Queen size and the two teenage kiddos slept on the pull out. Granted they built a pillow wall between each other, but we still made it work. We didn't harass the front desk or throw a tantrum. I don't know why this person is making such a big deal. 🤷

I understand you over here in Portugal. People attending public SHOULD NOT be obliged to talk from a script. Normal "magic words" as mum called them, are enough. If they make you say a text, and repeat it over and over again, they make you sound fake. I don't know who came up with the idea, but it sucks.
Also work uniforms should be simple and confortable, not a parody.
I had a terrible experience at a fashionable hair salon here in Lisbon. And all I wanted was to cut my hair, because it was Summer, and it gets pretty hot here, and I was never a long hair woman.
I did customer service for 40 years at Lisbon's main train station, and it can get crazy on Fridays and the Summer.
      Be polite but be natural.

I was at the grocery store the other day and a guy at the bakery area was yelling at the workers because they accidentally put “happy 6th birthday” on his daughters birthday cake instead of “happy 9th birthday,” the staff said they could easily just change the 6 to the 9 and the cake will look just as good. The guy lost it on them and started yelling at them saying they’re good for nothing and that it would’ve caused his daughter childhood trauma if he hadn’t caught their mistake on the cake. He ended up having to be escorted out of the store because he was making violent threats.
I also remember I was at a restaurant about a couple of months ago, and this woman was yelling at the waitress because she thought she got an email from the restaurant saying that there were free appetizers, and the waitress was saying that they didn’t think they had that and asked the woman to show her the email. The woman lost it and started screaming at the top of her lungs saying how that was an invasion of privacy and that she didn’t like how she was being accused of lying. Of course, she asked to see the manager and the manager confirmed that there was indeed no free appetizer. I kid you not, the woman dumped her drink on the floor, tried to flip over the table but it was too heavy, and just angrily walked off.

I work in the automotive parts industry. There are so many stories I could tell you. One of my favorites is from a day that I somehow found myself working alone in the store during peak hours. I had a gentleman come in to get his battery tested. He waited in line and heard me explain to multiple people a head of him that due to me being the only one in the store, I was unable to go outside and perform any of the free services we offered (in car battery, starter, alternator testing, check engine light readings, and wiper blade replacements). Several people were upset, but they all understood why I was unable to perform them. This gentleman, though, flipped out on me. After he finished yelling at and berating me for being unable to step out to help him, he proceeded to write a negative review on google, which would have gotten me a write-up had it not been for one of my regular customers being in the store and writing a positive review and calling the 800 number and leaving a positive review.

That way she doesn’t get in trouble or further enrage the customer, but you can still clearly hear the exchange. It seems all Americans think that being a customer makes the staff of an establishment their slaves that can be treated like dirt. Wake up people - it doesn't. And stop masking putting up with abuse as "professional". The employee had the right to shut the window in that crazy woman's face, then call the cops on her, because that was verbal abuse sprinkled with some racial bias ("that arab guy"), who knows what else she said to him to finally make him put an end to her rant, closing the window is the least he could do. Also, this is a private business, they can refuse service at any time, they don't have to put up with your crap.

Dealt with it for way too long in the healthcare industry, I quit in 2020 it was too much. Patients are the most IMPATIENT ppl when they are inconvenienced. In the customer service industry, workers are used as punching bags for things beyond our control, and not our fault, and have to remain calm and civil. THEY ALWAYS frame the inconvenience as "so you're just not going to help...that's what you're saying?"
First video: As a jamaican, all I heard was privilege. King size bed + pull out sofa = hissy fit.

There were problems, of course, and people would get angry over fines, noise, children, computers, etc…One person became extremely irate over a missing investment newsletter which was probably delayed in the mail.
It’s difficult to remember that one shouldn’t take the outbursts personally; people were having a hard time back then, and things have only gotten worse in the intervening years. The customer is *not* always right. I'm not saying that the cashier or clerk is *always* right, but I'm really beginning to hate that saying. It's simply a way for a customer to heap verbal abuse onto a cashier or clerk and get away with it, simply because they're the aforementioned 'customer'.
What they forget is that I am not a machine; I'm not some robot taking their order and robotically handing them back their change or their meal. I have a name, and a face, and a brain and a heart. Do you ever stop and think about the people on the other side of the register from you? If they have children, or are engaged or married? If they're saving up for their first car, first house, or so that they can go to school for something they love?
Do you ever stop to think that... maybe that cashier or clerk came in on a day when they weren't sure they were going to have the strength to get out of bed? Or maybe they forgot to take their insulin and need to figure out the best time to take a break so they can take it before they lapse into a diabetic fit, or maybe they suffer from epilepsy and have been having issues with seizures lately, but they still came in today because they had to cover for someone else or because they couldn't afford the cost of losing their shift? Or that they suffer from a mental illness, and are doing the best they can while they suffer from a bipolar episode or a schizophrenic fuge?
Have you ever considered that maybe that person is trying their hardest to keep it all together without falling apart, and your yelling at them isn't making it any easier? That person is not a robot, not a machine. They're a real person. We have lives, just like you do. Consider that, the next time you feel the need to throw 'The Customer is Always Right' in the cashier's face, please.

I wrote a Facebook post a while ago empathizing with "certain" Karens. However, when I wrote it, it was referring to those people who may be having an extremely bad day or their mental health is poor and they may take it out SLIGHTLY on the customer service rep they are encountering. However, the OTHER types of Karens are those who go out of their way to treat customer service reps horribly because they want to. And to record it while they are doing it is atrocious. I miss the days before smart phones. I really do. Anyway, this is what I wrote about some Karens. I know this video was posted four months ago, but maybe someone will see what I have written here. I've been working extremely hard over the last four years to be a more empathetic person and also how not to take my bad day out on someone else because they don't deserve it.
    Wrote on March 2, 2022
Do you ever wonder when someone has a Karen (or the male equivalent) moment, that maybe that person is just having a really bad mental health day/week/year/etc.? I'm not talking about those Karens who go on racist rants, etc., but the ones who flip out over a simple thing like a restaurant screwing up on their order, and so on.
I know I have had those days where something small that has gone wrong feels like it's the end of the world and I find myself start crying or sounding annoyed and take my frustration out on the other person. I think most humans have and if you haven't had at least one moment like that in your life, then I applaud you and ask you how? I do have to say that since doing everything that I have done over the last year for myself, these moments don't occur hardly ever anymore, which is why I think that some people who seem to be losing their shit over something small might need to be shown empathy and compassion and possibly have someone come to them, talk to them, and diffuse the situation because you have absolutely NO idea what that person is going through. Instead, people pull out their stupid ass phones, take videos, and then do their best to ruin someone's life over the internet.
Once again, I am not talking about people saying racist, sexist, or homophobic comments, etc. Actually, with them, maybe try to take a few minutes to educate them, and when that doesn't work, then maybe shame them. I don't know!
Anyway, our world has just gotten so ugly, and people are mean to others, and I don't see as many people being as empathetic and understanding as they should be, and I think it's sad.
I just wish people showed a lot more compassion to other human beings instead of being nasty.
Maybe if we showed more compassion and empathy towards others, then maybe everyone in this world wouldn't currently he so damn angry!

I couldn't agree more. I just don't understand how people can treat workers this way. I could certainly understand firing back if the worker is being doenright rude. But, other than that...no way!

What I would have done is ask my manager if we could just give them one of the rooms and upgrade the first booking that arrived or seen if one had a family with them that could benefit. It'd get him what he wants and a nice surprise for the next customer.

There are two sides, always. The only fault is usually the company providing bad service. It is sad that employees have to deal with the backlash.

Sometimes it's not the company. Sometimes it's unreasonable customers who are committed to causing problems. I have watched employees bend over backwards for some of these folks, but they are committed to throwing tantrums and getting someone fired.

@@ThisBahamianGyal , true that, but we also don't know how many times those customers has to deal with bad service

@@ThisBahamianGyal , I don't think the employees need to deal with that, but it really is a reflection of bad service, people don't want to be a sceptical but if they have been treated badly many times, this seems to be their reaction.
