Beautiful blue color, nice specs, let's discover how this affordable Ibanez plays and sounds !
EDIT : In order to make it clear : my problem with those Quantum pickups is not the overall tone. It's the note definition. I could enjoy those pickups if they were much more articulate :)

I agree with u. Maybe it sounds crazy to say but as myseld i enjoy alot more with Infinity R pickups becuase it feels like very tight and accurate on feedback delay time and sounds feels like in closed box and strong
@ToroKchannel Is this humbuckers good for clean songs? I want buy this guitar but not for heavy metal. Something like progressive metal and math rock
Great demo track! The guitar sounded good in the mix. Not the brightest or clearest pickups probably but sounded good for that style of track.
Thanks ! Well I worte the track in order to suit the tone of the guitar :)
Great honest review. Needs EMG or some Duncan pickups. Just got 1 today. Have 45 days to try it with my JC40.
Thanks ! Hope you will enoy it. Let us know :)
It has a veneer top which is fine.
My problem is the 'twang' on the upper strings.
😄 Very cool video 👍
The rga looks very nice and with a pickup exchange you end up with a good-sounding beauty that is well made.I really like that you play the guitar without an amp, so you know if it's worth swapping pickups.👌👍 I'm really looking forward to the upcoming Harley Benton video, i'm so excited 😛🔥🌶🙃
Thanks Yetimatze ! This axe definitely deserves much better pickups :) The Benton is coming soon, I've almost finished writing the demo !
@@ToroKchannel what pickups would you recommend?
i got one of these in the same blue lagoon burst, i put a seymour duncan nazgul in the bridge and i put a seymour duncan black winter in the neck sounds mean.
Well I just got it back from my luthier. Now it comes with SD Black Winter set. I've got reviews coming so not a lot of time to play my own axes, but I think I made it a killer !
@@ToroKchannel they are pretty nice pickups, alot of guys in the metal scene either go black winters or sh-6,10,15, i opted for the nazgul in the bridge to bump the highs up so i get a bit more clarity, i really only play metal but it really brings out the sound of palm muting and short notes, there's a video of a dude doing a comparison of a lot of pickups here playing the same riff watch?v=0FE2PDH61h0
Hello, thanks for the review of this guitar.
I have the same one and I would also like, in the near future, a change of pickups. I was doing some research on the subject, and first I opted for a Dimarzio set (super distortion - paf pro), apparently it is a set that has no loss. Could you give me your opinion, please? That set would be fine, or I could look for some others. I will appreciate your recommendations.
Regards!
Thanks for your comment. I haven't played DiMarzio pickups in years but I have good memories of the Tone Zone and the PAF Pro. Never played the super Distorsion but I've heard good things about it. I will personally go for some Seymour Duncan Black Winter, I've find some on the used market. To be fair, I have never played those pickups so, well, hit or miss :)
I think there might be other options as well:
Super Distortion - PAF 36th anniversary
Tone Zone - Air Norton (nearly the standard on higher end Ibanez guitars)
Crunch Lab/D-Sonic/D-activator/Evolution/Evo 2/Satchur8/Tone Zone/Super Distortion - Liquifire
Liquifire as a neck pickup is really good, you should definitely do some search about it. I am still not sure which bridge pickup is best suited for it. Satchur8 might be the one maybe.
Damn that flamed top looks killer, love it. The tone... could be better
I fell in love with the way this axe looks ! But really, those pickups... Come on Ibanez, you must do better !
@@ToroKchannel Think of it as an opportunity, to put in your choice of pickups :)
@Martin Emes Exactly! What, you expect Duncan's at this price point?😂
I just ordered one from Sweetwater for $429.00 retail.
As it is, it comes with a plastic nut. Both that and the pups are immediately getting changed, as well as a Hipshot hardtail bridge and locking tuners.
What is the second compartment on the back used for ?
It's an access to the jack input.
Sir,this ibanez rga42fm or ltd ec256 will you choose??0
Well I have bought another Ibanez R§GA 42 FM cos I have found some Seymour Duncan Black winter pickups used and I thought it would be great in this axe. Now, speaking about tone, the EC256 is better, the LTD pickups have a better note definition than the Ibanez Quantum. But if you consider the difference of price between these 2, (550 vs 420), I would go for the Ibanez cos' it's an amazing player, better than the LTD.
Is this humbuckers good for clean songs? I want buy this guitar but not for heavy metal.
Something like progressive metal and math rock.
The clean tones are OK, and the 5 different positions offer a nice variety of tones so I think you could play good songs with it.
I own that guitar. The pickups are fine. The tone knob is right there you know. What are you playiing through and why didn't you adjust the settings on your amp? I do it with each guitar to get my sound.
as I have mentioned MANY times in the comment section of this video, what I didn't appreciate about the pickups is not the tone (eventhough my setup were not good on this video, too dark, too much low end and not enough hi end, but that's not about the guitar) but about the note definition. I have returned this guitar, then ordered another one several months later and the pickups were much better. But I had a set of Seymour Duncan Black Winter and so I have installed these great pickups in my Ibanez RGA 42 FM.
@@ToroKchannel too dark? Mine are brighter, treble side, and I play dark low end C standard tuning. The pickups work great and the tone knob still shapes the edges off my sound. It works wonders. I guess if you play in E standard you might not experience how awesome this guitar is.
If i bought this guitar changed the nut and pick ups, which ones would you suggest?
I have changed the pickups on mine for some Seymour Dunacn Black Winter and it sounds damn good ! Seymour Duncan Distorsion in bridge and Jazz in neck position would be fine too. For the nut, my luthier and I were surprised to discover it’s a graphite nut, as good as agraphtech but not branded. You don’t need to change it :)
I put the Seymour Duncan Pegasus+Sentient in. ;)
Satchur8 (bridge) / Liquifire (neck)
I've been wanting a purple guitar for like 20 years and still have not got even a single one, same with white guitars
I love purple guitars too but still I've got only one in my collection !
they do have a purple version
This one or cort x300? Awesome review btw
Gonna review a cort X-300 in a couple of weeks, then I will be able to answer your question :)
How song are You playing?
Just a demo song I wrote for this review. I haven't found a title - to be honest, I haven't searched for a title :)
I have exact same guitar. If I need to change the pickups which one you would recommend?
I think I would go for some seymour duncan. Distorsion / jazz would suit it pretty well.
This is very similar a $1200 USD Axion guitar. That has Bareknuckle Aftermaths.
But the pickups sound good on the edge of breakup or lower amounts of gain.IMO
Not a matter of gain. I have realized several months later that some Ibanez Quantum can be good, I mean articulate. On this guitar, they were not, even the clean tone do not have a very good note definition. I might have been unlucky but if it happens to me, it might happen to anybody.
😉
The guy is so beautiful! but the sound is not that good. Ibanez needs to upgrade their pickup for the standard line.
Totally agree !
I have one of these. It sounds muddled because you have your amp EQ set up badly. Put the low down, crank the mids and put the treble up about 3/4 of the way. The guitar isn’t the problem with the tone here
As I said several times in the video, my problem about those pickups is not the global tone that I find ok, but the note definition. Nothing to do with amp settings !
I thank You for effort of making review and it is well done, but I must notice that You have too low action or guitar has very poor fretwork. It is obvious that notes are choking on clean tones.
I’ve set the action pretty low on this one, perhaps a bit too low :)
They were a great deal for 329. But now they go for 429, oof.
Every guitar has stopped being a good deal. I'm very nostalgic of the time when a Schecter Omen Extreme was 450 on retail... But I'm afraid we have to cope with that.
