    Thank you. So far you are the only person who has mentioned the SD HC. I seen it etched in to the door and was like I guess I have and extra 128gb for my camera. I went ahead and purchased the 32gb once I seen the SD HC on the side. You're video is the best so far.

    I use this Tascam a lot. I also use Sennheiser microphones that need phantom power. I do not have a noise floor problem at all but I have a different problem. If the powerbank drops a bit in voltage because the battery is getting more empty, then one of the channels begins to give low frequenty thumbs into the channel making the audio recording useless. So remember to always listen to the signal while you are recording. Using aa batteries is useless because the Tascam drains batteries really quick.

    Thanks for this - the noise floor comment is helpful as I also plan to use mine with an MKE 600

    Hi, I have a problem and I hope you can help me. I just recorded my voice with the recorder. The audio was very clear and loud. Now I'm playing the audio on my laptop and the recording is incredibly quiet, even on maximum volume it's barely audible. Do you have any idea why that is and how I can fix it? Is there a way to not have to record all of it again?

    • @SkaMateria
      @SkaMateria 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There are a couple possible culprits. I'd check the levels (next to the inputs) of your "Camera Out" connection compared to your "Phones" and connection. Having the camera out volume too low or your headphones too high can create that sitiation. You could also check if your mic requires phantom power, and whether or not your settings match that. But, from my experience, the most likely culprit is that you connected your camera's audio to the Tascam's "CAMERA OUT (LOW)". It's on the left side. Try connecting to the "CAMERA OUT (HIGH)" input on the right side.

      I forgot to respond to whether or not you have to record it again. It depends. There is a chance that when you import it into an audio editor, like Audition, you could increase the volume, and you'd be set. After doing that and you only encounter his or background noise, you can use a denoiser to clear the audio up. You might have to finagle it a bit, and there are some techniques of covering up audio mistakes like using music or lowering the volume during the portions that aren't important while maintaining a separate track of background sounds that fit the scene. If it's more troublesome than that, I'd either rerecord or take it as a learning opportunity to watch some tutorials and learn about the tools your preferred audio editor has to offer. Of course, that's on the assumption you have access to more powerful stuff than Audacity.
      I don't know if you're just starting to use this device, but I'd really suggest taking a day to play around with it. If you have multiple microphones, use each each one, make several recordings each changing the settings on your recorder significantly and see what the finished product is. Even if you only have one microphone, do several recordings in each input doing the same thing. Alter the gain, low/mids/highs, see how different plugging it into the low input is compared to the high input. Go into the settings through the menus as well, and mess with those, because there's a ton. Hell, use an XLR to TRS adapter and see if that messes with the sound. Use your worst microphone, and see if you can make it sound good! Really get crazy with it. I promise, a single session like that will be impossibly worth it. When starting out, recording good audio is such an unexpected hurdle compared to getting good footage. Even if you have good equipment!
      Sorry for rambling. I hope this helps! Let me know how fixing your audio goes. I can even take a look at it for you if you like.

      @@SkaMateria thank you so much! I've already found a way to increase the audio. For my next recording, I'll definitely consider your tips!
      Again, thank you so much for answering! I've tried googling my problem but didn't found any solutions, so I've turned to experts on TH-cam!

      @@sigma.analysis I'm glad it worked out! But, by no means, am I an expert. An amateur AT BEST! I just went through the exact same situation. I was hoping to make the learning process a bit less frustrating as mine was. I wish I was as willing as you to ask for help back then, instead of stubbornly stumbling through on my home in a misdirected attempt at self sufficiency. At least it made me confident in my ability to troubleshoot. Lord knows the most common response online for a beginner facing an audio problem is "it could be a thousand things" and "it depends". But if you know your equipment, finding answers online becomes MUCH easier. Mind if I ask what your solution ended up being for increasing the volume, and did you find out the initial issue? I'm about to teach some high school students video production using the DR-60DMKII. It could be helpful hearing what issues you've run into.

    Would you recommend this for a radio broadcaster who needs to conduct interviews in-field? Basically I’m thinking of recording interviews with this, transfer to my laptop, edit/mix, and then broadcast the interview. The mics I’ll be using are both the Shure MV7.

    Hey, thanks for this video, I'm thinking about getting the Dr 60mk2, when you speak about the noise floor, do you mean its best to keep the mic phantom power off or on?

    • @DiegeticAudio
      @DiegeticAudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will have to play around with it. I get different results depending on what mic I use, and what power supply I have the recorder plugged into. But I normally use a self powered microphone, and keep the phantom power off.

      @@DiegeticAudio that was a quick answer, thanks :) Yeah, I will experiment a bit, as you suggested. I'm thinking about getting the DR-60 mkII because I had an unpleasant surprise when I used NTG4+ mic with Zoom H1n... The noise floor was very very high. That's why I was thinking about getting a recorder with phantom power, so I could drive the mic level a bit hotter than NTG4+ does on it's own...

    do you know of a recording device that can use a USB-C ssd instead of sd cards or other too small media? my camera uses an ssd, and i would like to continue using the workflow i have gotten used to when i add an independent audio recorder.

    Why does it record to its own SD card? I just want to record directly to my camera's SD card instead so audio and video are automatically synced every time

    • @SkaMateria
      @SkaMateria 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm pretty sure it can do exactly that. It's just bad practice. That's what the "camera out" is for. Connect it to your camera's "mic" input, and the audio from the TASCAM will be the audio in your camera. Keep in mind, if you're running multiple mics, the audio will combine into a single stereo track with the video file. Even if you're running a single mic, I'd highly reccommend recording to the SD card as well as your camera for several reasons.
      1. It's a backup of the audio that will save you if technical issues arise (bad wire, loose connection, file corruption)
      2. It gives you the ability to review and work the audio files on the fly.
      3. Separate each mic into its own audio track, which is simply required if you're working multiple mics.

    Could you use this for a podcast?

    • @SkaMateria
      @SkaMateria 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You could if you needed to, but it kind of negates the functionality of it being portable. You could get a much cheaper alternative, with better functionality if you're just podcasting. But if you just want a single device that can get the job done, there are worse options.
