I compare those Ford powertrains to the 2023 Ram 6.4L Hemi, 2023 Ram 6.7L Cummins, and 2023 Ram 6.7L High Output Cummins!

I would go with the Ford with the 7.3 gas engine. The towing numbers for that motor are impressive with out spending an extra 10K to 12,500 for a Diesel that is going to cost you more to run per mile. The 7.3 will tow much more than most people will ever need.

I think each manufacturer from Ford to GM to Ram has its plus and minuses. I've owned all 3 from gas to diesel over the years. I like Ram offers push button start standard, Ford doesn't but offers other benefits on lower trim levels. I priced a 24 Chevy base and with some added options and came out comparable in price to a base Ford and Ram with not nearly the options. In my opinion it comes down to what your looking for. Then of course powertrain and what you need and what you like. Bottom line though is all trucks are overpriced these days and I wish people would stop buying at these prices! Quick question, you recently did a review on the red F350 xlt but it did not have power adjustment mirrors. What package on this was different giving that option? Thanks for the reviews Ben

    What Ram needs:
-Upgrade the chassis and body on the HD trucks to match the 1500s since they’re still using components from the 4th Gen trucks, which haven’t had too many major updates since 2010. Let that sink in. This would also allow them to put the Dual Pane Panoramic Sunroof and the Multi-Function Tailgate on the HD. It’s also possible we might get RamBoxes on the 8’ bed or the 3500 DRW.
-The new diesel transmission will almost certainly be the ZF Powerline 8-speed. Although the Allison is extremely unlikely to happen, if they do go with Allison, it’ll be the 9-speed rather than the 10-speed “Allison” in the GM diesel trucks. But regardless, the new transmission will be entirely shift by wire, so the column shifter will be deleted and replaced with the dial shifter, which is already being used on the HD Rams with the Hemi since they have an 8-speed from ZF.
-I would hope that they upgrade the specs on the Cummins diesel engines. I would make it so that the new Standard Output would be equal to the current High Output, which is 420 HP and 1075 lb-ft. of torque. The new High Output would produce something like 475 HP (equal to the Duramax) and 1300 lb-ft. of torque, which would be more than the new High Output Powerstroke in the Ford Super Duty. I’m going to go out on a limb and say the max towing capacity with the High Output would climb to 42,069 lbs. (I had to make that joke 😂).
-I already know this would never happen, but I can dream, right? The price needs to be severely reduced. I would think $50K is probably going to be the starting price for the new Ram HD, but I wouldn’t spend more than that on even a Limited model.

Higher GVWR means more payload. More payload means more towing capacity. A minimum of 10% for bumper pull, 25% recommended for GN/FW. For the max towing DRW rating, the 37k tow cap with a payload of 5200lbs(thats a 14% GTW) I personally wouldn't pull a a bumper pull trailer over 10k, without 15% hitch weight. 15% for GN/FW upto 18k, more than 20% over 20k. You need weight on the drive axle to "lead" the trailer

RAM doesn’t have as many recalls because they haven’t updated their truck in a decade! It’s had the same cab for 15 years! There’s half the rear leg room as the Ford. Plus ford has aluminum body, which is great where there’s road salt. I like RAM and have owned a few, but the Super Duty BLOWS the Ram out of the water.

iv been looking and comparing HD trucks for the last couple years. Intent is to daily drive (20 miles-ish each way from work) and tow a trailer 3-4-5 times a year. So Im in it for a gasser (up front cost, maintenance & fuel cost overall) Im goin Ford F350 w/ 7.3 & probly a 3.73 gear. Cost & capability to me just makes the most since. I have never been a ford guy (grew up a GM lover) but love me some mopar tho!! I think its just to damn hard to beat the Ford right now! Wished it was the Ram, but... it is what it is!!

I can't imagine giving up the capability of 4.30 gearing on a gasser to save what really amounts to almost no notable mpg savings.
That's just me. I use my SD as a regular driver (not daily), and the torque to wheels and acceleration with low gearing is awesome. Especially when you need it.

@Nissan Guy here in Chicago land $25K was a low sticker markup on trucks. Gold Mill Ford had a Mustang market up over $50K because it was something special or whatnot. I paid below MSRP on my Ram even in this market. The Ford I ordered is still sitting on the lot in Kentucky over a year later. 😳 I'm glad Ford made my choice easier by not communicating about it either.
