Well said! There’s always a cheaper alternative in sg while still able to live quite comfortably. Most that complains about the high cost of living basically refuse to settle for the cheaper alternative
I do not feel SG is TOO expensive given that it is a modern international city. Just spend wisely and manage your budget properly. In every country, there will be the haves and have-nots people. It’s unavoidable.
I think the part on we have cheaper alternatives here in Singapore is a big factor
Just stay away from tourist places.
I was in Switzerland last year, the only item that's cheaper compare to Singapore is Evian water 🤣... and the cheapest meal I manage to get was around $30++ and that's without drink
Validates Marion's point =)
Totally agreed
I am Singaporean living in Switzerland and I agree with Marion on so many points!
You're there on a work employment or migrated there?
@@JOSHTANLIVE On the Swiss equivalent of a work employment pass, into our 4th year here.
The Swiss lifestyle is definitely more expensive than Singapore lifestyle on many levels. We complain about our high cost of living because we do not control our budget monthly properly. With proper management of cash flow, I believe we can find a suitable lifestyle for every individual.
Well said
That what we should compare with. Developed country against developed country. Not Developed vs Developing. Salary basis is already not comparable. 😊
Bus driver in Sg earn 36k S$ p.a
Bus driver in Switzerland earn 60k CHF p.a
You have to include benefits, working hours, individual taxations and so on.
Mary is correct . Some Singaporeans ignorant about what is happening in other countries
Just bought 4 buns for 3.80 at near Bukit panjang LRT. Luncheon meat, meat floss, red bean and hot dog buns.
Please thank her for her valued opinion
👍 for you Marion ^
Good interview, thought it leads me to think perhaps income is another question 😅 maybe if we use percentages of general expenses versus earning power, we may get a more accurate depiction of the cost of living comparison?
According to Numbeo, Switzerland is $8000+ after tax while Sg's is $6000+
Singapore is expensive to live in, but has cheap aspects to it, thats the best way to put it. Yes transport is cheap, and so is food at the lower-hawker end, travels around S.E.A., but besides that (if you are a foreigner) it is not cheap. Car owning is expensive, healthcare is not cheap, sending your child to school is not cheap, and buying a property is very expensive which must be free-hold and with a stamp duty of 65% for most foreigners (and renting property). Yes comparing it to Switzerland it will seem cheap in some regards, however in general it is not a cheap city. For citizens I cannot speak, as I am not one but I assume some costs are cheaper (related to BTO/property and healthcare/education related to the CPF). Overall: if you are an expat it is cheap in many factors, but if that expat wishes to settle down, it is not! (my 2 cents)
no probs, pov noted
For past 20 years and still counting, I have always advocated that food in Singapore is the CHEAPEST in the world among all the developed countries! When I was in Zurich 3-4 years ago, my Thai seafood noodles for 2 pax at a restaurant cost me over S$90! Maybe you can find the same cheapest noodles at S$30 if you are willing to search for it. A 15-minute taxi cost over S$50!!
Echoes what Marion is sharing =)
She’s correct ❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊
Ok, taxi rides really depend. Just went for an appointment at SGH earlier this week and because the appointment was at 9am, the trip from YCK road area to SGH, about 20 minutes ride, it was more than S$37. That wasn't cheap.
thats a peak hour surge maybe?
@@JOSHTANLIVE Tis definitely peak hour...but I decided to go by meter thinking it'll be cheaper than rides (about 32 then) or taxi flat rate (also mid-30s). Ended up paying even more. Oh well...contribute to uncle's kopi money and economy bah...
I just had some kappa maki just now. It was S$1.90 ooops!
As i can see ...for those can manage their money and some have some assets of cos is not expensive especially foreigner earning over 10k here per month
For skiing holiday, it’s probably better to go Japan, Yuzawa.
My house nearby coffeeshop still selling chicken rice for S$2.50
I cant even believe it
Gov wants to roll out a “economic set” with coffeeshop. You may see the trend
Singapore is a financial hub or centre similar to Hong Kong, definitely prices should be expensive. That is what visitors should expect. If you come to visit Singapore, just be prepared with the budget for you're holidays or stay. Other countries are different. Some country has more land and some no. In Malaysia, 60% of the population own a car and most of the people out of KL can own a landed property. Singapore is an amazing and unique country, a financial hub in the region. Singapore has many tourists attractions, good food, entertainment, pubs magnificent hotels, museums, zoos. Singapore is number 1 in Asean..must come and visit. Uniquely Singapore❤❤❤❤
Thank you for this very honest contribution.
Everything that is said in this video is correct - but the conclusions about such statements are missing.
The price you pay as a consumer is expressed in a monetary term. A comparison between two prices without breaking these prices down into their cost drivers is really meaningless.
How many hours are retail businesses open in a week in Singapore compared to Switzerland?
How much is the average hourly cost of a retail worker including all social benefits the employers offer in Switzerland and how much does that compare to the hourly cost of a worker in Singapore?
It’ll be good to include the taxes.
Those not been to Switzerland, still not convinced 😂
100%!
And those who complained abt car do not own a car for leisure
SG is just like Switzerland. Maybe it's the hills we have. The $3B money laundering awarded 13mths jail. Such a strict sentence right? What happens if 100million laundering only? Shorter jail time? SG Asia bagus🎉
Those who said sg expensive are
1) low SES singaporean who earn less becoz of their capability limits
2) expats that got fired or retrenched.
Singapore is so cheap without car and condo.
Be nice be nice 🙏
Sg is not cheap for awhile now,:it’s expensive, I visit Sg every year till 2019 n Covid stopped my travelling until 2023. I will give u “cheap”, to me reasonable price goods in hawker centres. Restaurants r expensive, hotels hv increased in prices too. Hv u been to buffets in hotels? It has gone up a lot too. So, as a travellers I know expensive as I see one n compared to other countries…Sg is expensive. 😖😖😖
Cute cumber!😂
only poor said Singapore is expensive…dis gusting mentality 🤮🤮🤮
Several billionaires and many millionaires choose to live in Singapore for good. Indeed, Singapore is one of the best places on the planet to live comfortably. Of course, the choice is individual. Individuals may choose to live in the mountains facing the seas, so on and so forth in many other countries. Individual may stare at the mountains and the seas for 24/7 the whole year round, and that is his or her personal choice. Very importantly, the health care systems in among the top in the world and the hygiene is also among the top in the world. Your life is more precious than the few dollars saving. Your life is priceless and invaluable. There is no time to regret later on and there is no turning the clock back to rewind back after a decision is made on the wrong choice
