Meet Koala, an American who has traveled to 193 countries as a solo traveler. She has been living in Singapore for the past seven years and joined the Singapore Army three years ago. Koala shared with me why Singapore is the best country to live in, why she decided to become a soldier in the Singapore Armed Forces, and which countries are the most boring and exciting in the world. Enjoy!

Congratulations Ms Koala. You found where you feel is home 🎉
She is truly a positive person

Hi Max,
I have full respect for this Lady Koala.
Dennis. 🐨🐨🫶🏻
Ms Koala is so well travelled her description of different types of country is pretty spot on.
Honestly, i am sure its like 1 in a million where we can see a solo traveller covered more than 190 countries. Got to give it to her!!! Kudos 🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍
👍👍👍💪💪💪💘

I have nothing but respect for U as a grateful person which many lacks Thank You for loving Singapore.🙏🏻

Miss Koala is an amazing woman! Nice to see her in your channel too
Yes indeed!
Thank u 🙏 hope to see you 2 of my channels too 🥰🐨
Thank you very much for interviewing her, Mr. Max 🙏🙇♀️ My wish is finally granted ❤❤❤
Haha 🫶🏻🐨
Thank you Koala for volunteering with the SAF but I'm not sure that I agree on your comments that you did "all the things that the NS people would do". Your induction course is a 2-weeks stay-in training. Mine was over 52 weeks long. You enjoyed your training while some from my units self-terminated.
I suspect it took MINDEF a year to get back to you partly because of overseas background checks. A locally-born female applicant would get a response way faster.
Max love ur videos ..As a US doctor who visited Singapore recently from Florida (it was hot in Singapore still ) and loved it a lot with my wife and kid ..Wondered if u had any medical professionals like doctors who moved to Singapore that u interviewed or will interview …and how it varies from their home country ..Would love to watch that …Keep up the great content
I know a doctor working at our government hospital who was originally from the UK.
I’m proud of Koala 👍
I respect Koala. She quit her last job because her last job was not happy that she joined NS. She appreciates the peace and efficiency Singapore has offered to her. And she is a female! She is able to prove she is better than some of the guys.
She got laid off, not quit.
Her last employer was not happy that she joined NS? How come? Care to share?
@@kwpf They felt it is taking off her time and effort away from her work.
@@rocketsteel Laid off or quit, she has the courage to carry on the NS despite the company displeasure. Not everyone can do that.
Joining the army is a logical thought process for her to potentially help obtain a Citizenship. Given her age, I would imagine it's quite difficult for her to get an SC, assuming she loves Singapore and would like to settle here. I also don't think she's married , so it would make sense why she joins the army especially if she's laid off.
I fully agree with her, Singapore is the best place to be!! (I also have travelled all over the world)
It's not even a real country. It's sort of a Walt Disney park, a bigger park than usual, of course.
Singapore, Luxembourg, San Marino, the AUE, Qatar, etc. these are artificially created Athens-like city-states, from some eclectic congregations of very rich individuals and corporations.... most don't produce any thing on their own; and all of them depend on the sweats, tears, and suffering of extremely EXPLOITED FOREIGN workers ("guest workers") to baby sit their kids, to cook for them, to wipe their elderly's butts, to build for them, etc.
Real countries are the messy, big ones that may STRUGGLE on many fronts but which are able to grow most or all of their own foods, produce their own teachers, plumbers, doctors, engineers, etc... real countries --- as opposed to Disneyland types of big theme parks ---- are those able to build big & small factories & companies, able to invent technologies & construct or manufacture computers, chips, missiles & cars & planes & satellites, etc.
@@kiabtoomlauj6249 The fact u took your time to write such a long comment clearly showed that u are too jealous of Singapore😂🤭Why do u bother if Singapore is big or small country??😂Clearly u aren’t happy with ur own country, that’s why u can’t stand whatever Singapore has been offering to the world❤❤❤
HAHAHA, What makes u think Singapore can’t & dont produce our own teacher, lawyer, doctor,,engineer, banker etc? Singapore is such an unique country that is able to produce TOP notch brilliant students & intelligent ppl to run the country too!! 🇸🇬🇸🇬Singapore students also ALWAYS TOPPED IN THE WORLD FOR INTELLIGENCE,READING, MATH & SCIENCE. That’s why Singapore is WELL KNOWN for that & been ranked MOST intelligent country for many yrs!!🎉🎉NONE of those countries u mentioned are considered intelligent countries EXCEPT Singapore!!❤So, are u awake now or still living in diff planet?🙃
What guest workers? U mean those ppl come to work in Singapore are all doing FOR FREE?😂🤣LMAO.. So when they do cooking, cleaning, building houses etc all are considered as “intolerable” chores for them? 🤣🤣Oh Wow ..Oh ya so they must be so stupid to work in Singapore for HIGHER salary & their country “actually” can provide “more” opportunity for them to work🤭🤭..Wow…u are so clever to think this way, bravo to u👏👏So everyone else so stupid except u can tell that by giving them jobs in Singapore is called exploiting them?? HAHAHA🤣🤣
Have u actually talked to the workers? Who invited them to come to Singapore? Hello? Excuse me, they all come to Singapore voluntarily & many would pay to come to Singapore cos they know SG can provide the income they can NEVER dream of having back home, that explains why average foreigners work in Singapore for 10-20 yrs, some even 30yrs cos they LUV TO WORK IN SINGAPORE & for as long as they can!! There are so many countries in this world, they can choose to work elsewhere too if they want but they chose Singapore!! Nobody pointing gun at them, so what the fcuk is wrong with u by twisting fact that we are exploiting them?? Are they working for free in Singapore?? 🙄Exploiting my beautiful a*ss, u jealous piece of sh*t…🥰
Singapore is such a systematic & well run country that even takes care of foreigners with proper laws that help protect their safety too, so why the fxck u put us the same level as those other countries esp comparing us to the middle eastern countries??!! Are we muslim country governed by Muslim laws?? If u are being exploited by them that’s ur problem, don’t come here & start accusing Singapore is doing the same as them. Go get a better life pls in your own REAL LOUSY country.🥰 That’s real country for u HAHAHA❤

do all Singaporeans act like her ?
It doesn't matter say Singapore is the best country, because she is on duty in Singapore.
but calling other countries bad is a rude
@@adijanuardea1582 Seems like you dont know how to read English. He never said that other countries are bad. Though he rightly pointed out that a few small countries are Artificial places and are a concentrated hub of some rich people. So far she is fortunate. All the best.
Wow... 193 countries! I can only spend my lifetime dreaming about seeing maybe 20% of that!
Lucky you, i have been abroad 3 times during my life. And if i am in my mid 50's
@randar1969 haha yes I guess I ought to be grateful for what I have rather than be sorry for what I have not. Thanks.

Hi Max and KK: Thank you for making the video. Absolutely love it. Great content- Max! Especially for KK, you made us and yourself proud to be a Singaporean. Great job in serving the armed forces. It can be exciting- all good. Sincerely, Golden State resident admiring the Yosemite Waterfalls and enjoying Napa Valley.

Hahaha... Serving the armed forces? Her's totally different from what a Singaporean male experienced as a conscript. Please don't insult the sacrifice of all Singaporean male.
Her english accent is more Singaporean than American now. Kudos for her joining the Singapore armed forces.
Curious about her background, seems that English is not her mother tongue.
Her English sounded like a Hong Konger
she looks like Chinese/Southeast Asian, like Michelle Yeoh
Lol. No. Sound like china or hongkong.
@@yiming99 You're right. English is her 1st language, not her mother tongue. There's no concept of "mother tongue" in the US. That's a Singaporean thing.
Ms Koala is such a worldly, insightful person. I love how she could instantly respond to your questions on which is the country that is most.. Like she knew the world at the back of her hand. Mad respect for the choices she made in her life and also for serving the country.

She doesn't sound like she was born in America though

Good interview and conversation. I love it. Very good Video. Good job Koala and Max.. !!! 😊☺️😃😄

Back when I was doing my NS, there was an Australian and an Indonesian in my batch. The Indonesian fella don't even know what National service is. He just applied for PR and got an enlistment letter.
she's back!!
She is cool!!
Great personality & Great talent, thanks 🙏

Why doesn't she tell us where she is originally from? She's clearly not born in the USA. A lot of us are curious.
In her other video she mentioned she has 3 ethnicities which she didnt wanna reveal. And also hinted growing up in a number of different countries outside US...Australia being just one of them..but yeah she doesnt sound Aussie either.
Yeah, sounds like Asian or SEA english for me
hi koala thank you for serving in the SAFVC!
Thank u 🙏 hope to see you 2 of my channels too 🥰🐨
She joining The Singapore Armed Forces Volunteer Corps is a uniformed volunteer auxiliary branch of the Singapore Armed Forces also NOT as a regular.
thats why i wondered how come foreigner can join regular army..
Yes. It's better to be clear about SAFVC. It's true the training is real tough for all, not only females, no doubt about it, but no need to be ambiguous.
Whatever is a contribution to Singapore we have to appreciate.
@@shadowj3311It still won’t make these foreigners one of us.
It would also be nice if they would interview "itchyboots" (Her name is Noraly) another amazing solo world traveler that rides her bike everywhere or perhaps "Eva zu Beck" with her overlanding around the world too. 😊
Come to Ang mo kio, l will treat you to all our local delights
What are the local delights in Ang mo kio?
She went to 106 countries and she is in the army.
Hmm, something suspicious. Is she some kind of James Bond?
Jane Bond, not James Bond😂
You are brainwashed by the American 1962 The Longest Day plus the British 1953 James Bond that US & UK as No. 1
Joesph Schooling enlisted in 2022 too. Hope to see him at Worlds Masters Championships in 2025 as it is easy to get there from San Francisco. Had Worlds at Stanford in 2006, but US Masters not equipped to host such a huge event. Wow she went to Columbia. It’s good to be a an Ivy Leaguer as one is less impressed by people from Ivy League schools. A lot of them went to prep schools like Philips Exeter. Feeling depressed that I didn’t even know about this route. I swim to shake off these negative thoughts. Traveling is such a pain.
Her accent is definitely more Singaporean than American
She is Chinese ethnicity, and has obviously not spent her early years in the USA
Maybe she has a Singaporean boyfriend, got her Singaporean accent through kisses with him
You should interview/collab with Satshya Tharien she is a Indian youtuber/insta based in Singapore. Maybe she can give a glimpse between the two countries?
Ms Koala ? Yea I can imagine how a Koala can adapt to Singapore . When people are living in condos and coming from overseas ... They surely have got themselves well covered ... Which is a far cry from those who were born here . I think people can resonate with those
i am from Singapore lets go singapore
I saw that photo of a girl wearing the uniform, she is so cool 😎 only now I know who she is after watching this video. Thank you ☺️
Great video! Absolutely love Ms Koala 😊 Solo female traveller to Gabon, Egypt and Brazil? She's probably braver and has more street smarts than most SAF officers (including the Generals!!) 😁😁

Hey Max, can you do some videos or find some expats frkm Australia / NZ and living in Singapore / Malaysia please
Sure but I actually had a lot of Australians on my channel already
@@MaxChernov oh really? I will check some of your old videos to find some
Feels safe here
Oh, she's still in SG. After so many years...
She doesn’t have an American accent at all. She speaks English with Chinese accent. Since she served the Singaporean army, her US citizenship could/should be revoked per the citizenship laws in the USA
That's fantastic for her! Otherwise it costs $5000 in govt fees, tens of thousands in legal fees, 25%-50% of your net worth, and takes years to shake off horrid US citizenship, the worst in the world which is the only one that taxes you all over the earth wherever you go - and has the most negative image of all nationalities.
Dammit, I should have thought of that as an easier, cheaper way to renounce the hellish US citizenship before.
Nothing great to be an american. Some americans are also giving up their american citizenship to be Singaporeans.
3K - 5K americans leave and renounce the US every month now. They're all the successul ppl, leaving behind the high US crime & taxes. The US govt is hiding this fact. Also, most of the brightest Chinese and Asians are fleeing the US due to rampant US racism and fear for their lives. It's the biggest brain drain in human history. The US is finished!
I visited 7 planets, but best is home 😊
Can we get a comparison of hawaii and singapore from your future videos?
She's from China who just has American citizenship.
Volunteer corp siboh? She sign on can travel so freely meh? Your lingo tells me you did a short volunteer course niah.
It's rare to see traffic jam in Singapore, because the normal car prices are insane overpriced over 1000% of is real price..
bikes here costs as much as cars in other countries
And they should keep it that way. Cars are not supposed to be priced like they are in other countries. The real costs of the cars are way beyond what they charge; it's more road maintenance, carbon emissions, destruction of cohesive communities, time wasted in traffic, and toll on mental health.
why should cars be cheap/affordable? Outside cities, sure no big deal but in cities, walk-2 wheelers-public

Yes completely agree...was PR in au but over time u start to see the ugly side and makes you appreciate singapore more
where is koala originally from? i watched her videos she says shes american, but i wonder whats her ethnicity, she kinda sounds hong kong ish, just curious!

wow...thanks for the praise on Singapore, but i dont take 5 mins to go from my place to airport?haha...
It is not 5 mins from my home to the airport..... it is 45mins
You know, I'm something of a soldier myself.
NS 1971 - 1974, trained with faulty frequent jammed AR15 from felled GI in Vietnam War, Ceylon rice with rats' heads, limbs and tails, in forested and jungled heavy commandos' mosquitoes caused very sharp pain on you, filtered dirty drinking water from rivers, illogical insane punishment from CSM or RSM burnt your weekends, missed your girlfriends or your parents. Cooks used dirty smelly socks to filter coffee or tea for SGT, CSM, RSM, Officer who burnt the weekends of cooks. The foods tasted bad. We were not so well educated like our parents, suffered in silence. NS boys were majority pai kia, ah beng or ah huat, thugs, uncouth, frequent fist fights to resolve dispute, made us tough badass today, strong immune systems to withstand most kind of food. It's a blessing after all the years of torture in NS of 1971
It is incorrect to say that Singapore PRs do not have to serve National Service. PRs who turn 18 are called up for NS. Singapore must be the only country in the world that conscripts foreigners into its armed forces....
singapore is best to live if you are rich. plain and simple brother.
Should be comma , " if you can afford to "😂😅
Which 5 countries she didn't travel to?
Her first sentence "you have no idea". Well Singapore fits her subtle narcissism well. Singapore is a well run country, but it is far from a free society and monitoring of the population is well in place, but for 2 attention hungry YT's that is no problem.
🤑😇
Comparing her time to volunteer and full time conscription and say that what she went through is more intense. What an insult to full time NS. LOL. I am sure many Singaporean males would love to volunteer then
Don't be sensitive. In her body built, she felt and proud, ok for her, no insult, don't feel insulted or insult yourself or NS
@@user-gp5ls5iz7x I am sure I understand English. She said it was more intense because their course was condensed compared to what the other NS boys go through. C'mon...taking a sh1t at what our boys go through?? I for one would like to go through her "intense" and shorter training regime...anytime! :)
I have seen some of her videos before. She has one where she got "scam" by landlord.
How are you able to just immigrate to Singapore?
she said she doesnt want to waste her time to queue...Isnt that sg people like to queue...even they dont know what is the people queuing..

She doesn't speak like an American.
She is wearing a beautifully embroidered yellow dress of cotton comfortable material. This dress could only be bought at the place she visited. You can't buy it at any shopping center around the world, not branded, but beautiful. You'll appreciate its uniqueness and beauty. People who have sharp eyes like the top fashion designers or the managers of the garment factories, chief merchandisers or purchasing managers will notice its beauty. Wealthy women love this type of dresses with laced outline. She resembles Sally Yeh, faithful wife of George Lam, a good woman who appreciated George Lam's help. Why are you still waiting?
You choose the quality and standard but Don't mind of price best for you
Originally, she came from where? I don't think she's an American by blood...
She sounded like a Hong Konger speaking English
She sings in perfect hk cantonese
Which is most dangerous one is the world?
I never knew foreigners can join the army.
Yeah, like a bad joke
Join Spore army, for how long ? 😅
Where did Miss Koala grow up? Where does an American learn to speak with a sort of Singlish accent?
I doubt her accent is due to Singlish influence but rather the accent she grew up with in America among her immigrant family/neighbourhood (the ethnicity of which she prefers to keep private, I guess). I can see why she likes Singapore which is often misunderstood as a non-English speaking country just because they do not have typical Western sounding "native" accents ...just like herself.. I suppose it makes her English sound less "pidgin" in comparison. (I mean she has even made "comedies" about Singlish in other videos).
