You can see the kind of languages used by the host is quite condescending and showing his European superiority. E.g. follow Europeans, get to the European level, a more matured China, etc. Not to be trapped by his framing, Mr. Lee handled the situation very well! I strongly dislike it whenever someone tries to show their superiority foolishly. In Malay, it's called "bodoh sombong", literally translated as "fool arrogance".

Quite the reverse! You've misunderstood the references to the southern Europeans. John is asking if SG might descend to the lower levels of the Europeans.

@@graceazlee Ok, i will listen again but what about the "matured China" remark? Remember, China is a civilization state with more than 5000 years of history. China chose the so-called "authoritarian" system right now cos the multi parties failed and brought China into a chaotic state. At one point in time before 1949, China had more than 200 parties with warlords all over the country -- something that the West is hoping to see.

PM has been interviewed by this person at least five times so there is a familiarity and ease in their relationship. If you go back to their early interviews they were more formal. There is no doubt that the interviewer has a lot of respect for PM. He even mentioned that he did some background reading and found that PM was Senior Wrangler at Cambridge. In the UK, being SW was once described as the highest intellectual attainment. As a Brit Mr Micklewaithe would have been aware of the intellectual distinction this title carries.
PM does not mention the SW on the biography sketch in the parliament website. It merely says he studied mathematics at Cambridge. He also completed his three- year course in two. And the gap between him and the second placed person was the biggest ever recorded in the history of the mathematics degree at the University.

    • @hengbin2974
      @hengbin2974 ปีที่แล้ว

How was his academic achievement @ Cambridge U reflected in his dismal performance as PM? Simple eg is the epic mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic with preventable deaths & damaging impact on people's lives & the economy. Ppl might like to know that I had debunked the govt. White Paper on its handling of the C-19 pandemic. The US$275 million total loss in FTX even as the Chair of the CFTC described as "flashing red light" that it was a total fraud, is another eg. showing up his incompetence as PM!!!

LHL managed to complete his 3 yr Maths course in 2 & had to stay on for another yr when he further earned a diploma in compute science in order to be awarded his degree from Cambridge. In any case his academic achievement did NOT prepare him for his role as Cabinet Minister & subsequently as PM. Back in around 1985 then Finance Minister Dr Richard Hu publicly complained in PARLIAMENT that LH, as MTI Minister took away a file from the Finance Ministry WITHOUG Hu's knowledge. , Such was LHL's arrogance not to mention about the alleged SLAPPING of MND Minister S.Dhanabalan @ a Cabinet mtg.

@@Abraham-uk4xy At one point not so long ago in British society, attaining the rank of Senior Wrangler in the Cambridge Mathematical Tripos was considered the highest academic achievement possible, and the recipient of the recognition would be met with instant public renown. Some Senior and Second Wranglers include James Clerk Maxwell, Lord Kelvin, Arthur Cayley, and George Airy. It means, basically, that PM Lee had the raw potential to be a world-class mathematician.

I admire his political spirit, Singapore before self. Because, he grew up as his father's son, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, from mudflat to metropolis. Singapore mudflat, no, zinc roof house, yes.
My childhood is Zinc roof house under cherry tree born in 1958, so, every morning, a man will collect buckets of night soil from a shared toilet. 1958. So, I am only 66 years old this year, just look at how Singapore has become. Incredible.
From 1965. Amazing, and all highly educated individuals in Singapore with foreign talents, to supplement or complement Singapore livelihood, with continuous water and electricity, takes a lot of insight planning. For me, personally, Singaporean should know foreign affairs, and Geography. We are not a big Continent.
      African Stream. Food for thoughts.
So, Singapore's policy is critical, watching out for headwinds is vital.
Coming together is equally vital. Move forward together is vital, or be left behind by headwinds between big Continents.

Different countries have different political system to govern their country. The event of war in middle east can easily affect the mindset of people who will become emotional and act negatively action which may jeopardy the security of one country.

A one-state secular solution is what most countries have where atheists and religious groups live together in harmony. Many Jews and Palestinians live that way in Europe and in North America.

i absolutely hate it when mainstream media interviewers interrupt their guests and their thought process. why is it so hard to let them speak? they know much more about the subject than you do, you're not the expert here. this is why podcasts are thriving now.

I prefer the late honourable Lee Kwan Yew, he was a more powerful and less hypocritical leader and got things done. He would have definitely taken a more interesting view on the Russia - Ukraine and Israel - Palestinian war that is happening today. He would have definitely wanted to know who and why the Nordstream pipeline was blown up….

As long as one country comes with greediness then it is hard to cooperate and balance. Even win win comes with 2 wins to be balanced. So how can China and the US cooperate, I believe only the US will take care of the west and china take care of the east , then China and the US take care of each other's in everything need too

What might be also helpful in addition to what's being addressed, is for Israel to truly build their land or share of land they legally owned. They need to do it for many good reasons and the primary one is that they do not still have a stable dwelling they can wholeheartedly claim it's their home -- as one collective civilization. Their people are still scattered in different places before and ever since the ending of world war one and II living in foreign lands and this is still a true situation today. They must come together and return home dispersed from foreign countries and from other societies not their own.
In retrospect and in very much the same way other civilizations had built their homelands and for that matter -- created a robust economy for themselves to provide Jobs for their own kindred or people to earn an income to support life and avoid disrupting the socioeconomic systems of other societies. Rest assured them of manpower support around the world should they need it. It's not a hidden secret all countries have their own money or currency to use for whatever their civilization needs -- they must do the same. May you be led forth in Joy and go out in Peace. be blessed. nov2023

China is China, Britain is Britain, America 🇺🇸 is America, Japan is Japan, Italy is Italy, India is India…etc. Every countries are different with own histories, own cultures, own values, own principles and traditions. However, America 🇺🇸 is unique, great, strong and kind for sure. Only America will accept all different peoples from different countries of different histories, different cultures, different religions, different languages and different recognitions kindly and even adopted more than own generations and generations of accumulated Americans’ total population as now a very diversified country America to build America’s greatness and strength by America’s own recognitions and principles together. The most important thing is making our country America great and strong by happy Americans together. Only America’s greatness will be able to help others better more effectively and efficiently. If America accumulates massive huge amounts of debts, America’s financial resources, economy and strength can be impacted quickly. This is why America’s greatness will be Americans’ attentions and efforts as number one important. Also getting along with other countries for peace efforts as best as possible, establish strong alliances with our allies are very important strength extras, because America’s world leadership status and efforts need alliances’ strong supports to generate more supports for peace efforts and longevity of the earth from communication efforts, peace and harmony, benefits from the peace, productivity from the peace, prosperity and safety from the peace, better life from peace and happiness from the peace. Peace will come from principles, efforts, communications and strategies altogether. Also peace will come from strength to face unpredictable circumstances too. Many America’s government leaders talked about those things for reasons, I guess.
