    I’ve got a mate who throws the rask. It’s not for proper 14 speed drives, but instead for really hilariously awesome forced anny shots. That thing will fight out of ANYTHING. He throws it on these berserk annies that are sharper than a normal roller shot would be, and that thing just battles it’s way out of it with plenty of time to orient itself to tombstone. It’s a crazy disc, but if you work it out it can be a bit of a beast.

    The rask has recently made my bag. I had wanted to try it out for a while but it was just so overstable. Kastaplast has released a newer version of the Rask called the "Z-Line version" and its the max distnace rask everyone needs in my opinion because it isn't quite as overstable. If you get the change I'd highly suggest testing one out and even comparing the two versions of the Rask together to see the differences

      This 👆. Try out the Z-Line Rask or the Luke Samson Team Series Rask that seems to be the same disc. You get all the pros you lined up but without the excessive beef. Think of it like a "throwable" Rask :) . It flies kind of like a beat in "normal" Rask.

    Love what you do! I’ve been involved in discgolf long enough to tried the first Brittish brand DiscWing, they actually had a mold called Quarter K, that also had a rounded ”inside rim edge.” So Loft was not first, but discwing was a bit before it’s time and do not longer exist. Try out blunt blow fly, and old school dolphin or ”10 meter brick” for odd design. Also first molds of Latitude64 had uniqe design with a ”power dome” on top for best glide. They had a special sound when they hit the ground so you could here on the sound what Disc it was that landed. Love from Sweden, keep on the good work!

    • @caseysmith544
      @caseysmith544 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quarter K was so soft the discs on hard ground would begin to deform. Disc Wing had another mold like the Quarter K and then Quarter K II that was the Quater K in same plastic but by the time these came out the company was no longer making discs due to nobody buying the discs. One of the shortest lived companies to make PDGA approved discs at only 2 years as a company.
      10 meter Brick they all shattered over time due to how fragile/brittle the plastic was that started at max flex to only become stiffer over time. The later new quest company started in 2013 ones were from what I saw on Amazon in 2015 were softer the the Gumputt models or Blowfly/Blowfly two one brands discs in a Z/Champion plastic, all other discs were normal plastic. They were made in Rockford Illinois until 2016/2017 when they started up again in 2013/2014. The Seller for the new Quest discs on Amazon claimed in lower description the discs were the exact old molds somebody found in the Dumpster of Gateway, the old company after they went under in 2009 or 2010 they first Quest company from St Louis area dumped the molds to Gateway in 2012 who had no use for them with Quest making a mold for Gateway that Gateway was pissed about the quality with the Diablo. The pictures of the discs looked like most molds had as much flashing as Innova could in some runs from 2011 until 2017 up to 1/2 inch/1 cm flashing. Of the Quest molds the Quest T-Bone in the new plastic is the One needed to be tried similar disc to the Gateway Diablo but smaller mold.
      The DGA Blow Fly and 2 as well as the Gumputt Driver and regular, regular was called Blunt in 2000's are some of the softest discs besides this new brand making silicon plastic PDG approved discs that are some of the softest molds besides the DGA Steady signature series. Funny story is the PDGA would have been DGA if it were not for Ed Hendrick who was making the Mach I/1.5 but none of its own discs was getting his company name DGA registered at about the same time that the PDGA was making its own mold.

    Yes! More breakdowns of discs attempting to be innovative!..
    I really want to see someone re-tool the turbo-putt to be legal.
    If I could design it, it would have a raised "second rim" like the rask, but only about the size of a quarter in the center of the disc. I don't think the handle-like outer rim would be legal, but there's gotta be another easy way to get good grip, like the golf-ball dimples or something. Turbo putting is a gem in the rough, in my opinion. :)

    The Monarch/Groove should be mentioned as having a unique rim. I'd certainly be interested in learning how that affects flight shape. I'd also be interested to know how much correlation there is with the glide/lift of a disc increasing understability.

    • @natebauer
      @natebauer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @H K I wasn't attempting to correlate the rim shape of the Monarch/Groove to stability. I was commenting on the unique rim of the Monarch/Groove while also independently pondering if the glide/lift of a disc has a tremendous correlation to stability.
      I would hypothesize, though, that an increase in lift decreases the stability of a disc.

      I always keep a groove in my bag. I don't have another disc that I can flip over easily but still have a really heavy fade as soon as it slows down. And it ALWAYS skips on the ground, which is a nice reliable trick for some shots.

    • @caseysmith544
      @caseysmith544 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Monarch is the one that needs to be tested if still in production. The Grove in Champion is an unpredictable disc so much they are still running on old discs in the warehouse from 2014 or so, they each fly very very off in flight like one will be Destroyer in flight then another will be like an Archon or new Wahoo in flight from the people I have talked with in person about the mold.

    • @jawaring4367
      @jawaring4367 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@caseysmith544 I've heard this for years but every Groove I've had (five over the last decade) has flown exactly the same except for when they get neat in and become more Flippy. 5/5 disc that all fly the same and nobody who I've ever heard that same story from has never actually used a Groove. I golf with another person who has also been throwing Grooves regularly for as long as I'm have and he agrees with me. I personally think that the "unreliability" is actually a variance in the technique, not the disc.

    • @caseysmith544
      @caseysmith544 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jawaring4367 I picked up two Champion Groves in 2014 and one had the Grove size grove in the discs wing with the other having the Monarch size grove in the mold, tell me those two discs would not fly the same. Also, you said after the mold wears in after a bit they do not fly the same like the initial break in, there in lies the problem of your problem of the mold becoming this unreliable flippy disc. Even the Valkyrie Or Road Runner dose not do this in better plastics nor does other US Innova Discs, they tend to wear in with a slower pattern.
      Oh, stay away from the Champion Archon unless you want a disc with 0 or lower glide. This is common with the Champion Archon I got in 2019, it had a dome to flat section in the middle that is common with the mold. The Star does not have this issue with the plastic as much and feels like a faster Valkyrie.

    I truly believe that MVPs overmold tech+Lofts rounded rim would make for the perfect combination. The overmold atleast on paper moves weight out to the edge of the disc, making discs more stable without being overstable, and that allows for a more understable wing design without the requirement for extreme RPMs and thus a straighter longer flight. Atleast in theory :D

    It was one of the first discs I hit 325 with for the first time

    I've always wondered how a disc with an inside rim would feel with a melted in cross hatch pattern for extra grip (or anything extra, could just be random raised letters). I'm curious if something like this with a rounded rim like Bohrium's would give you a little more grip and make it feel more comfortable.

    I like this video series a lot. That Rask is weird. If you do a midrange version of this video, you should look into the Storm Discs Wall Cloud. It has a double bead.

    I have the Discwing QK in Streamline plastic, which is an 11-speed with rounded rim. Not thrown it yet but it will during this spring. So no Løft was not first with rounded rim =)

    I got a rask because I wanted an ultra beefy utility disc for scrambles or super low flare skip shots. but the rask I got is not beefy at all. i don't really have a big arm either, i think i top out just shy of 400 ft, and it goes laser straight for a good bit before fading. was slightly disappointing because it was not doing what i wanted to do but it's staying in the bag for a while...

    Got a Rask in the christmas discswap, have a Missilen in the mail as we speak, just miss the Bohrium for the oddball triple. They'll fill a niche as flex forehand shots on my nemesis hole. Would you recommend Bohrium for a forehand?

      @@TrashPandaDiscGolf Just got that disc in the mail, the seller had it confused it wasn't the Missilen but Raketen, another 'prototype' from Latitude 64 with that hex grid on. Less overstable so I'm well pleased as it fits my nemesis beating plan better.

    I'd like to see something about all discs with dimples and compare them. Answer the question ...Does where they add the dimples affect how it flies and if so in what way. I used a lot of Quest AT with dimples...liked the flight, not the plastic , nor the learning curve to toss them.

    Kastaplast made a run of flippy Rasks. If you can pick up one of the Luke Samson, or Rask Zs, then you'll be crushing them without any issues. My distance crushing friend gets a standard Rask to flip up, and the flight is completely unique. It goes straight or flipped over for forever, and then suddenly drops from the sky with the hardest fade.

    Just the discs I expected to see. Could have added Epic on the list.
    Someone already mentioned Discwing's Quarter K. They did the rounded rim disc in 2005. Some liked, but most didn't like it. Those are still being sold at least in Ebay. I don't mind that Bohrium tried it again, but I don't like it being advertised as unique or something that has not been done before.
    Prodigy made M5 with two rims probably close to 10 years ago. Those rims were very close to each other though and not like Rask has. I think the purpose of it was the same.
    Understable midrange that feels in a way like a faster disc because it has a thicker rim. That was a bit odd disc as well and didn't sell well.
    What is common with experimental discs? Low sales.
    It is still nice to see new attempts to reinvent modern disc. I am sure there will be some that breaks through. It has happened in all sports. Sometimes it can take a long time.
    Clapper skates in speed skating were patented in 1894 and re-invented in 1979-1980 and despite with clear benefits and scientific proves it broke through in late 1990's. Now you can't be on top without those.

    *Rask thrower* You mentioned the Rask gives you a 14 speed with a smaller rim comparatively. Do you know what the rim size is on the Borhhum? I'd also wonder if the "innovations" make the disc better or worse as they beat in compared to new.

    • @TrashPandaDiscGolf
      @TrashPandaDiscGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Bohrium’s rim is 2.5cm - that said, the measurement is from the inside to outside, but doesn’t account for feel due to the gradual rounding on the rim. I’d say it also feels more like an 11 speed 👍
