    I don’t get why people hate on the stego and tilt. They do exactly what they’re supposed to do. It’s be one thing if they were advertised as regular workable discs. But they’re supposed to be a brick that goes left. That’s the point.

    • @beetorstevie

    The Dragon is a great disc for what it is intended to be. Just to be used by beginners and give them some confidence throwing and knowing that it will float so they won't lose it right away. I still have mine from 12+ years ago and use it as a training disc when i take people out for the first time.

    • @Veggamattic
      @Veggamattic 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree...I am a beginner (2nd season) and the Dragon is the worst of the 30 disks I bought. Way too floaty in the air with almost no control. I have nothing positive to say about the way it flies.

      I found a dragon stuck in some pond mud and have used it here and there and it’s absolutely terrible and flips super easy due to its weight…. But… it does float so I still use it when around deep water!

  • @A.J.K87
    @A.J.K87 3 ปีที่แล้ว +39

    The dragon is still in production. I bag it for over water shots. I can hyzer flip it and get it to fly pretty straight actually. A guy in my club said that weirdly enough for him different colours flew differently. According to him white ones are a tad more stable than pink ones. It's anecdotal evidence so take this with a grain of salt. Mine is a white one. It's pretty flippy, but when thrown smooth and with some hyzer it flies pretty great.

    • @docxen
      @docxen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      i love dragons they are my sacrificial discs. can get them like 6 bucks including shipping. I use around water which around here is usually still. and yea different colors do seem to flly different. And i have hand issues the plastic helps me

    • @jamminjtree3347
      @jamminjtree3347 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I throw a white one. Over water, into water, and I'm still going to pack it in the trunk, just not everyday.

    • @tonyg1011
      @tonyg1011 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a very common thing that happens with discs. I have flippy instincts and then i have OS ones. White and pink ones are typically straighter or flippier and then blue and lime colored ones have been fairly os

    • @jackl4laughs
      @jackl4laughs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I kinda doubt it's just the color making changes to the stability, I'm not outright dismissing that, but I'd point more towards the biggest factor in molding discs being weather. For example let's say you made a bunch of red, blue, and green Dragons one day when it's gorgeous out(higher temps, higher air pressure, but lower humidity) then the next day you stamp your white, yellows, and blacks but a storm rolled in overnight(lower temp, lower pressure, higher humidity), well it makes those identical molds different because of how the plastic sets in different conditions. It's one of the reasons Innova is seen as so inconsistent between molds, they make so many discs that it can be completely different conditions between some colors to others and that alone makes the discs fly a little different than the ones before. I still love Innova, but I tend to just buy their used discs when they have things I want and I tend to bring by bag to the store so I can really compare my favorite discs to ones I might buy. I have some of those godly destroyers from Avery Jenkins times, and for the most part I only buy other destroyers that have a similar feel and dome to them. Now if they'd just swap back the Nova plastic on the inside, the new ones rip like construction paper and break when they hit anything at any force. I broke one on a jump putt last summer, 1st throw I made with it on a really short putter course hit a tree and broke, and that was after I'd broken 4 other ones since Covid appeared. My 2 old ones(5 or 6 years) hit trees occasionally and never had a problem, the new plastic is worthless...

      @truboyd1632 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup.. Got an innova leopard, fairway driver in a starter kit with stats 6 5 -2 1

      I have a beat in Champ Groove. Honestly, it flies pretty close to the #'s, and i can probably throw it about 350-375'. Nice long S-Curve--never understood why it got all the hate, maybe I just got lucky and got a good one.

    I have to stand up for the dragon. I think it's a great disc. But for some reasons. i play near water and bushes on some holes that's easy to lose a disc. Bad knee/hip keeps me from climbing down the hills into the water so for me i grab them 6 bucks including shipping and they are sacrificial discs. Also i throw leftie cause of a bum shoulder and my arm speed sucks so they fly fine for me. The plastic even helps me cause of hand issues (factory job life ya'll ) so i just love them. This made me laugh - my experience has been the same with the Dragon. I have mixed feelings about "losing" it on a course: not sure it's right to put that burden on another person. If anyone is looking for a floating disk they can throw over a pond, I've had better success with the Peace Frog from AquaFlight discs. It flies like a stable putter, similar to a Judge. It has a deeper edge though.

    I don't mind the groove. I think it's more like - 0.5 turn. Thrown a bunch and they all fly the same. Stable straight flight for 300 then a 30-40 foot fade. It's not great but I don't have hate for it.

    I love the Goove...only bad disc golfers hate it cause they don't know how to throw it. It is very predictable...understable hss and it dumps hard at the end...lots of situations where that comes in handy.

    I think I own the flippiest Albatross ever... First disc golf purchase. Lost it in the woods. Played another year, learned the game.. and then someone found my Albatross. It spent something like 9 months (partly through the winter) in the woods, unprotected. It is absolutely unthrowable. I can attest to the barrel roll phenomena. I keep it on my shelf for its sentimental value.. but garbage otherwise. (SIDE NOTE, the putter that came in that pack is really good in my opinion, I still practice put with it to this day).

    I honestly like every disc I've ever thrown.
    The only reason people don't like the Groove is because during the cooling process the wing tends to droop or pull up more causing the PLH to be more inconsistent then most molds. So it's only inconsistent between different runs, thus being harder to find a equal replacement.
    Once the disc cools off it is what it is, the stability doesn't change between different throws.
    I happen to like the Stego but mine version is the Gateway disc Sports predecessor. Dave McCormick designed it way back and never put it in production because he didn't think it would be widely accepted. Then RDG bought the rights to the mold about 4 or 5 years ago and had it PDGA approved.
    As far as the Dragon it a nice feeling DX plastic mixture and of course it turns into a paper plate flight for most if you exceed the speed limit of the disc. For a player with any type of arm speed it's definitely a finesse discs.
    I have see Paul McBeth throw extremely flippy plastic that would normally hyzer flip or turn over to roller for most players on a pure hyzer line out to 350+ feet.
    Most people can't throw a beat-up flippy Dragon on a pure Hyzer line to 350+ it would simply turn over or at least Flip to Flat.
    Honestly most people throw with some amount of OAT (off-axis torque) leading them to believe the disc isn't as stable as it really is.
    Most people have never heard of the Optimizer or Maximizer golf discs, if they were familiar they would both be on the list. You really don't know what a flippy disc is until you throw an Optimizer 😉.
    When I'm not itching for the discin, I have the yearnin to get the plastic turning ✌UNUS❤

      I think what he meant is that it is a touchy disc, not that the stability actually changes. This is true also of the katana and ANY understable, high speed driver. If you throw at a 13 arm speed, the Groove and Katana will both hyzer flip and glide off course for AGES before the katana hooks hard and the groove settles out a bit straighter. BUT throw just slightly too slow, and they will hook up, flip flat, but never turn over going for a long J shape. Throw slightly too much anhyzer and they will burn into the ground. Due to lack of stability, but extreme speed needed to throw properly, they are just very very difficult to throw consistently.
      Comparitively, no matter how hard you throw a Boss, or Firebird you're not going to overturn it. And the different in throwing it too slow vs the correct speed is just distance, not actual flight path. Same thing with a disc like T bird. Basically no matter how you throw it, it will just hold whatever line you put it on.

    The tilt seems like an extreme utility disc like if you have to do a skyzer 100 feet to your left over trees in very strong wind. Probably not enough to justify keeping it in the bag though.
