I swam competitively for a while, and we spent a good chunk of time in practice working on glides. It doesn't seem like there's a ton of technique to it, but there is. From the form you should try and hold, how deep to go, how far, all of it has some sort of angle to try and perfect. I remember we'd literally count tiles on the bottom or look for a marker.

Every Olympics I think how having an average swimmer in the pool with these athletes would really emphasize how strong and fast even the guys in lane 8 are. This clip shows that even an 18 second head start isn't enough for some of these kids. The man's an absolute beast!

In 1, this is a competition between a star, a famous athlete, with amateurs and his fans, or simply novice athletes. in 2 they were deliberately given a head start since this would not make sense. + did you see how everyone dived? 1 meter from the side, while Adam dived and swam at 5-6 meters and the swimming speed itself was at a different level. and even with a handicap of so much time, Adam is in 2nd place. only 1 guy was able to swim 1-2 seconds faster than the athlete. Afterwards, Alam praised the young athlete.

They get paid by the tax payer and from gambling profits to train 6 times a week full time. Appreciate their craft but the working mum with 2 jobs is a far greater super hero.

Dude the workouts go insane I was a olympic trials qualifier my freshmen year before I stopped didnt go and I trained for 2 hours before school 3 hours after and did dryland for another 2 hours full time job basically most people get burnt out after a few years.
I'm nowhere near as fast as Peaty but I'm pretty quick still. I used to teach swimming, at the end of term I'd race the older kids, they'd do 25m, I'd do 50m. They loved it.
My 50 free in high-school my senior year I got down to 24.5 ... michael phelps time if I remember was 23.02 ... 1.5 seconds faster in a pool that's alot more then a body length.. . That's actually a lot in a sprint . NY lifeguard test is a 50m in under 30 sec.... and that's after a mile run in the sand .. swimming practice warm up minimum 75 laps in a 25m pool which is a mile and that's warm up ...

I used to be a lifeguard at a gym pool. Some dude bros were being a problem, so I came over to set things right. One of them said, "I bet I can swim faster than you." It was slow and I was semi on break. I dropped my shorts, kicked my flip flops, and dropped right in the lap lane next to them. "Who's first?" I let the guy get halfway down the pool before starting and still beat him by 5 feet. I raced all the rest of them with the same outcome. They were all much more respectful and well behaved after that.
Don't know the program but ill guess the handicap is relative to the best time for each group, swim class, whatever. I don't think he'd give you that much. 😛
This wasn't a "I will still beat you even with this head start" thing, it was a "i will give you a fighting chance" thing. He was trying to make it fair, rather than boost his ego to easily beat them.

И покруче зарубы видел. Как-то тренер попросила заезжего серьёзного пловца с её воспитанниками погонять. Пачаны на воде клёвые но он их легко сделал. Пацанам есть куда расти.
