I had Stage 3 Ranal Failure . My EGFR was 34 and I managed to bring it up to 62. Its took about 18 months but what I'm doing is helping. I fast , I fast for 16 hours and leave an 8 hour window for eating. What you eat and long walks will help tremendously.

That is what I do and it works One meal a day. I do exercising too. Run mostly. Get your heart rate up. Stop eating sugar. 8 years stage 3 and has not gotten worse. Never seen a kidney nephrologist. Did all on my own. I keep Blood Pressure under 120/80 with exercising eating right. Eat chicken, fish and salads. water. Stay away from ibuprofen too.

Get a urine test. Gfr can be manipulated by drinking lots of water and is not a true reflection of damage. I've been researching this so it's a good idea to do so.

I'm at stage 3 gfr of 55. I have a lot of the symptoms you have mentioned for my stage. I didn't realize just how many symptoms this can cause. I really think my cognitive issues are thw worst. My therapist has tried everything and said she never had someone go through mind battles like i have that was related only to mental health. Im am so unclear and unable to comprehend very well. The brain fog is almost unbearable. Hope all goes well with you in the future.

Im waffling between home hemo and PD and getting a visual of what its actually like; and what your day is like is helping me to prepare psychology for what is coming. Knowing that im not alone with those random toe/ feet charlie horses is oddly cathartic. Thank you again for opening up.

I’ve been on PD for a little over six months and I can recommend it. It has been my experience that people on Hemo do not have as good a lifestyle for a number of reasons. 1) The people that I’ve talked with have indicated that the Hemo sessions are very draining. The talk about being really tired after the sessions. 2) I have read about cases where the patient has problems with the blood vessels in their arm after being n Hemo for a long time. 3) Worst of all is the time that Hemo takes. You are probably looking at three sessions a week of about five hours. There is one more point that I can’t find any studies on but I believe that PD is easier on your body because you are doing PD daily and this keeps your body on a better equilibrium than Hemo. The other big advantage is that you do PD at night once you get on the cycler so you aren’t messing up your week with Hemo appointments. I’m not saying that PD is perfect by any means but for me it is the best option. If you have any questions that I can answer leave a comment here and I’ll try and answer them for you.

    • @gene108
      @gene108 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

In home hemodialysis can be done on a very flexible schedule, as long as you get 12 hours of treatment per week.
One difference between PD and in home hemo, is you can do PD by yourself. In home hemo requires a partner.
I chose going to the dialysis center. I have ADPKD and there’s not enough room in my abdomen to do PD. Hemodialysis was my only option.
When I came home, I wanted to be home and unwind, and turning part of my home into a dialysis treatment area and dealing with storing supplies, etc. was more than I wanted to deal with.
In home dialysis, whether PD or hemodialysis, is gentler on the body than in center treatment, because daily dialysis cleans the toxins out everyday, so they don’t build up over the 48 hours between in center appointments.

I can relate to a lot of these symptoms. I've been treated for hypertension for years, but was told last Nov that I had stage 3 ckd. Then weeks later, pre-diabetic. I started going to the doctors because I had trouble breathing... chest congestion that i can't get rid of. I can't catch my breath when climbing stair. I would tell my doctor about symptoms I'm having...swelling in feet, achyness in back, maybe bloated in stomach that I want to rub my stomach all of the time, lack of concentration cramps in toes and feet, and looks like it's no big deal from my doctor. While trying to watch my sugar and salt intake, I've lost 20 pounds. Lately I get dizziness while standing. I just want to lay down and sleep. I sleep a lot now. I understand the feeling of acceptance. I'm 73, and know I won't and I don't want to live forever. I want to tell my son and sister how I feel, but it seems like I'm complaining all of the time. I'm glad that you posted this video. I feel like I'm not alone.

Thanks for explaining your journey through kidney disease. I have been in kidney failure for 4 years. Without dialysis. I have managed my disease with a regimine of daily meds. My creatinine is rising and my GFR is very low. M y other markers are ok from taking my meds. I am very scared now and figure my days are numbered but I keep waking up each day. There is no medical explanation for my condition so I feel GOD is in control of my destiny.

Thank you so much, you are a wonderful person. I feel like I have fought illness so much over my life and now have kidney problems, that I do not plan to do more if the time comes for dialysis. I have no children, my husband is tired or taking care of me and has problems of his own, so, what life would I be fighting for? My dad had all the same things as I do, and I saw him suffer through hemodialysis for about 3 years. He just couldn’t do it any longer and stopped. He had no quality of life, it was one emergency after another. I don’t need that, I’ve had too many things already. Sometimes there are just not enough reasons to keep going when you have multiple illnesses. God Bless you

My husband has been doing PD dialysis for a couple of months now. He’s feeling better and his numbers are getting better. What was so surprising is that he was fine, except for diabetes and high blood pressure. He wasn’t having any other issues. He was keeping up with all his appointments too. Next thing we know, he was stage 3/4, then 5. This all happened in a matter of a few months. The decline was very quick and painful for him. His doctors were shocked, yet were slow to get him started on dialysis. He was suffering and my kids and I were scared we wouldn’t make it each day. It took the doctors several months to get it together. We felt very hopeless and helpless. But now that he survived all that, he’s doing well and his energy and everything has been increasing each day. ❤

I had total kidney failure, it took from a Monday to Wednesday, I had no symptoms, the only symptoms I noticed was I was talking silly things, not remembering things, on the Wednesday morning I collapsed and woke up in the ICU after being in a coma for 4 days,
Mine was due to an infection, no idea how I got that, I was very lucky, no dialysis, I spent a week in ICU, then two weeks on a ward, it took me easily a year to fully recover, the only warding I has was the day before I had pain in my lower back where your kidney’s are, but I have had back surgery 8 years prior, so as I often get back pain , I thought it was just that,
So now I really listen to my body and I wish everyone who this has happened to , a full recovery and good health

Thank you SO much for sharing your experience. I have just gone to the nephrologidt after a bad kidney stone last month. I don’t know the test results yet. However, your mention of the cramps in your feet startled me. I have had cramps in my feet increasing since 2018. All the doctors I’ve been to insist it’s from peripheral neuropathy, but I have none of the tingling and burning sensations usually described. If they had thought to test my kidney function, maybe we could have prevented my getting to this point.

i'm stage 4, CFR about 21. This took years to get this bad. I have had a lot of cardiac related surgery and little by little my CFR went down to where it is today. Aside from +5 pitting adema I have fatigue and breathlessness severly limiting my day to day life. I have already got the literature for the different types of dialysis from my nefrologist. He says that I'm not there yet but it's good to be prepared and informed. I still have more cardiac surgeries coming up so we'll see how it goes... fingers crossed. At my age a transplant is off the books as is a new heart, we have to deal with what we got and make the best of things.

I'm not sure. I haven't used an adjustable bed. It would have been nice to have when I was recovering from my PD Catheter surgery, but I haven't needed to change the height of my bed when using the Cycler at night. I did get a low dresser (from Goodwill) when I started PD to put the Cycler and bags on.

I have an interesting thing: I have Parkinson’s and I take several medications including amantadine. Amantadine can cause symptoms of kidney trouble without affecting glomerular function, including edema, mottled skin, and mildly elevated blood creatinine. If you have Parkinson’s, be aware! This sounds so familiar to me I had Liver failure from NASH (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis) I couldn't eat almost all proteins or anything with salt in it or sugar and no Dairy. Same thing weird taste in my mouth and it wasn't metallic either just made these foods non palatable. The only thing I could eat were Veggies and fish. March of 2020 I was 180lbs and three weeks went down to 129lbs. I was waiting for a transplant but at this point I too had no strength and muscles were gone. Once I went to replace a fog light on my car I got down and was able to replace it and it took me 45min to figure out how to get up as I had no strength to do so. I didn't ask for help and I only told my near family about this and the folks at work saw I was declining and asked but I would make something up and change the subject. And the cramping drove me nuts, same thing feet, toes and calves. I did have itching only in the shins I scratched so much they would bleed 24hours. I tried so many creams and nothing helped. Because I had no muscles my innards wanted to come out and I was getting many hernias. Once I was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery as my intestine popped out and twisted shutting it off Hence the emergency surgery.
I was given until December of 2020 (average wait time for a liver was 2 and a half years) and if no liver was found then I wouldn't make Christmas and I too as it was getting closer to the end of the year felt that resignation. I did Finally did get my liver (up here in Canada they don't do partial only full transplants) it was September 29th. I am coming to my third anniversary which means all should be good but now my kidney's are starting to go and I think it's the meds I have to take to live are now slowly killing my kidneys. All the best to you. I understand and felt your pain.

Did something cause your CKD? My kidneys were fine until I had taken Celebrex. I thought my fatigue was from my weight gain but I had that extra weight for a couple years, and wasn't exhausted. And really exhausted after moving, solo. But I'm realizing some of it is from CKD. I'm praying that in a month or two my new tests will show an improvement in my kidney function

What is your thoughts on the utube videos that claim to reverse kidney failure? Do you believe this is true?

Thanks for the question. My answer is yes and no. From what I understand, you can't heal the damaged parts of your Kidney BUT you can improve the function, slowing and even stopping the process of Kidney disease by changing a poor diet and life style to a better one.
In another comment you mentions Dadvice. I really like his channel and the dietitian he features. He suffered from KD because of his poor diet and lifestyle. When he started eating healthy and exercising his kidney function improved from end stage to stage 3.
For me, my Kidney Disease (I have FSGS) was not caused by a poor diet. Eating healthy, though I'm sure extended the life of my Kidney, had no effect on the disease attacking my Kidney's.

I know kidney damaged is irreversible, but u can prolong it by following renal diet. If you’re on stage 4-5, impossible to reverse it. I don’t know if these bloggers are saying d truth about stage 5 went down to stage 3? Do u believe it? I hope so cause I’m a CKD patient, too. Stage 3-B

@@kidneykeeping do u mean from end stage, is he on dialysis already? Otherwise he can’t urinate w/o dialysis, right.

I am not a doctor, but my understanding from conversations I've had with my doctors is that some things can be reversed. If you have inflammation in your kidneys because of poor dietary habits and high blood pressure, a lifestyle change can give your body the opportunity to heal. But you are correct that once the kidney is scarred, that damage cannot be reversed. A good diet is still important, so I have no problem with people who encourage it.

I'm glad that your first flush went well. I remember being really nervous when the fluid started to fill up. I don't know what I expected, but I didn't need to be as afraid as I was. I'm happy to hear that everyone at the clinic is nice! Thanks for the update.
