Pratt was only selected as a substitute fielder. England then took their fast bowlers off when they weren’t bowling. Basically cheating. Always remember watching this, breaking off to make some food, by the time I'd returned ponting was run out. Funny thing was the scoreboard popped up and read "ponting run out" and at the side of his name it said pratt, genuinely thought the scoreboard was trolling him as I hadn't heard of the player at the time lol.

I admire Ponting, always have. Great batsman, great captain. But he did get done by Flintoff 4 years later in exactly the same way. If you're out, walk and keep quiet.
I think he thought England were taking advantage of the twelfth man and using it to rest their bowlers. Also Pratt wasn’t close to selection, he was hand picked because he is a expert fielder.
why u don't give us todays ashes match highlights.... we found South Africa vs England test (2017) highlights this channel but why we can't get ashes highlights...
Ponting wasn't to know that this was one of the few genuine substitutes that England made - Simon Jones had to go to hospital and would retire after this game as a result of his injury. I'm convinced that Jones would have been an England great but for having his career cut short.
Reason why ponting is angry is due to unknown substitute fielders used by england through the series . Batting side didn't even knew strong arm of these substitutes
I remember watching this as a kid, teams started making the 12th man players that would never make the team just for their fielding according to Ponting lol
Ponting blew a gasket coz the poms kept resting players taking them on and off far too much. Then with an injury they used the best fieldsman in the country as 13th man sub rather than next best player that deserved a go in an ashes game. Nothing illegal but it was taking the piss. Ponting eventually gave Fletcher a spray but not without it being earnt.
Yeah but if you were selecting a player who could only go on to field then are you going to pick a gun fielder or a bloke who can bowl really well but wasn't as good at fielding then who would ypu pick

Max Page Exactly, which is why ponting got rightly pissed, England have a history of being sly, i remember once in the 80/90s Wasim started a spell of late swing which was unknown to England then, during the break they had the ball replaced with a ball of the same conditions which had would then still reverse, but once flintoff found out how to do it, it was hailed as an all time great skill
