Turns out he was on the wing and his opponent put on the burners and took 4 bounces and sailed a goal through the sticks. He didn't chase hard enough and was benched for his lack of effort. He said something along the lines of "that was the day I realised I wanted to persue cricket, too much running in footy." First and last game for the reserves. 😂 God he was a legend. What a character too. A cunning tactician who could enter the minds of the opposing batters. Also, 'The Gatting Ball?' First ball on English soil and he does that?! Iconic.
Good to see genuinely nice blokes getting a 6 fer. And they were all good bowling too. He got them out. Plus a wicket in the first innings and 2 catches. Pretty big game.
And you don't realise how good of a ball that one that got Root actually was till you watch that close up. Angled in with the arm, perfect length to get the drive and decks off the pitch. An absolute Jaffa.
Great point. There is not one bad shot in this highlight reel. Just brilliant bowling. If you are really critical Mark Wood should have defended the one that he got, and and Jack Leach could have got a stride in, but that is about it.
I remember Boland being part of a pace attack of Tremain, Worrall, Mennie and Hastings that came out with the Aussies to SA for an ODI series at the end of 2016, and they got hammered 5-0 themselves. Nice for him that he got to be part of an Ashes winning test match in the end. What a story!

Sydney Kiwi here, never heard of Scott Boland before Boxing DayTest. I wasn’t able to see his spell of bowling live but highlights packages were great! Humble guy, was delighted to see the team reaction to his first scalp, then after that ‘haul’ my god what a champ! It must be hard for a bloke to come on and do the damage then think about not being in the mix for the next test.
I'll never forget this moment. I remember watching this test match on tv and watching Scott Boland bowl, I was in awe of his talent. I don't think any other Australian bowler on debut has ever achieved the figures that Scott Boland produced that day. 6 wickets and only conceded 7 runs throughout his spell was phenomenal. Hope to see Scott Boland in a baggy green again someday.

I agree. It was truly a once in a lifetime team twenty years ago which will be hard to match, but when you least expect it they pull back in with some of the best cricket you’re likely to see. I’d love to see this current team play India.

Being an England fan I have to say that Australia have been absolutely on fire and have battered England since day one and totally deserve to be where they are in this series so I salute them and give them credit where credit is due 👏. On England, well, I have to say that they’ve been absolutely dreadful in every single way, bar a couple of individual performances I’d have to say this is one of the worst England teams I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a few, English cricket needs a total overhaul, it’s not just about white ball, it’s about all 3 formats, we have to learn from the Aussies, India and New Zealand in that respect that it is possible to be good at all 3 formats at once, I’m afraid in our pursuit of one day glory we’ve seriously let the test format hang out to dry and that’s unforgivable, any true cricket fan will always say Test match cricket is true cricket, so until England realise that I’m afraid we will be in test decline for a few years yet, but once again well done Australia

@@silmarienprince3137 yes, England never seem to find a right ballance, it is possible to be good in all 3 formats as India, Australia and New Zealand are all proof off that, I hate to say it but I think there’s a certain arrogance among English cricket, not the players but the hierarchy above them, there needs to be a big re-think and overhaul with the system in this country, what astounds me is the fact that guys like us can see all this but the ECB can’t, we need to stop looking at stats and start looking at technique and mentality for a start, I mean, when you look at guys like Labuschagne and Smith they are not easy on the eye but boy can they bat, and they bat long, they have the attitude of wanting to bat all day every day and will never give away their wickets, I’d love guys like that in the England team, every player has he’s own individual technique and that’s so important I feel, the best thing to happen to England now will be to get absolutely annihilated in the next two tests which will open the cracks even further

Boland has to be the most unlucky, overlooked bowler of recent times. To be able to bowl like that and not be a permanent fixture in the Australian team must be incredibly frustrating for him

On England, well, I have to say that they’ve been absolutely dreadful in every single way, bar a couple of individual performances I’d have to say this is one of the worst England teams I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a few, English cricket needs a total overhaul, it’s not just about white ball, it’s about all 3 formats, we have to learn from the Aussies, India and New Zealand in that respect that it is possible to be good at all 3 formats at once, I’m afraid in our pursuit of one day glory we’ve seriously let the test format hang out to dry and that’s unforgivable, any true cricket fan will always say Test match cricket is true cricket, so until England realise that I’m afraid we will be in test decline for a few years yet, but once again well done Australia

Fair points and true . The Poms have focused so much on white ball stuff( with obvious success) they have forgotten everything else. Test cricket 🏏 is how your remembered. With the obvious exception of World cups etc
@@silmarienprince3137 yes, England never seem to find a right ballance, it is possible to be good in all 3 formats as India, Australia and New Zealand are all proof off that, I hate to say it but I think there’s a certain arrogance among English cricket, not the players but the hierarchy above them, there needs to be a big re-think and overhaul with the system in this country, what astounds me is the fact that guys like us can see all this but the ECB can’t, we need to stop looking at stats and start looking at technique and mentality for a start, I mean, when you look at guys like Labuschagne and Smith they are not easy on the eye but boy can they bat, and they bat long, they have the attitude of wanting to bat all day every day and will never give away their wickets, I’d love guys like that in the England team, every player has he’s own individual technique and that’s so important I feel, the best thing to happen to England now will be to get absolutely annihilated in the next two tests which will open the cracks even further

Boland has to be the most unlucky, overlooked bowler of recent times. To be able to bowl like that and not be a permanent fixture in the Australian team must be incredibly frustrating for him
No questioning, no doubting, Boland is something truly special... even with our current attack it seems criminal he's not a certain starter.

This is why we should rotate bowlers based on venue/form. We have the depth, we just need to use it correctly.
It’s hard not to pick Cummins, Hazlewood and Stark for every game if they are fit. The only reason Bolton got a test cap is because Hazlewood is injured.
