In empires 8, I play as Dong Zhou and only recruit female officers. Then I realize I can't maintain the kingdom since there are only a few female officers available and also none of them has strategist ability. So I recruited Guo Hai as the only male playable officer, and a bunch of NPC officers for manpower and then when there was only one enemy kingdom left, I executed/fired all the male officers lol. It's so funny when a female officer confessed love to Dong Zhou, I couldn't stop laughing for almost a full minute.
How is Sun Quan not on the list? He rode off on the success of others, he ends up backstabbing an ally when there was a bigger monster they had to face right in front of them and he ends up being another example of the overplayed anime trope of the unattractive socially inept boy being able to get with the smoking hot girl. Okay yes I get you wanted Jing province back but can you not wait until AFTER Wei is beaten?
In addition, in many of the games, they made him really annoying talking about "The pride of the Sun Family" Every ten seconds! I get to emphatize with him in DW7, but his dialogues are too annoying TBH.
I thought that Jing Province was part of the deal from Liu Bei. As far as I know, Zhuge Liang or maybe Liu Bei send a letter to Wu's kingdom to participate attacking Wei at the same time. Shu attacking from the West at Hanzhong and Wu attacking from the East at Hefei Castle. And if Wu agree to attack Wei at the same time, Liu Bei promised to give Jing Province to them after that. But well you know, even after Wu agree to attack Hefei Castle with a 100.000 men, they got obliterated by Zhang Liao who defended Hefei Castle with only 800 men if I'm not mistaken. That's why, despite the loss.. Sun Quan already give Shu an opportunity to take Hanzhong and then they recall the deal about Jing Province. But unfortunately Guan Yu doesn't agree about that deal and refuse to give up Jing Province to Wu and then they wanted to take Jing Province at all cost even if they had to team up with Cao Ren from Wei. @@karmst1996 That's not the point, Shu just requested that Wu attacking Wei and if they agree to do so. Shu promised to give Jing province regardless of whether the attacks succeeds or fails. But after Wu tried to invade Hefei, Shu breaks their promise.
Yuan Shao's characterization is really tragic. He can serve as such an interesting warlord to add depth and different dynamics to the early pre-3K portion of the game's storytelling. A bit of a pompous attitude would be very apt but as you say they drive it to the extent that he's almost entirely a one dimensional character His defeat really signals Cao Caos ascension to superpower status and depicting Yuan Shao as an entirety self important moronic goofball really takes the wind out of it There are lots of opportunities to flesh out chars like Zilong, Zhang He, Zhenji, and Yuan Shu w/ Yuan Shaos career as well. My jaw dropped when guan siblings was on number. How the hell is Guan Yinping hated especially?! I thought she was one of the fan favorites in the dynasty warriors in the franchise.
I think she is hated the same way as Bao Sanniang. The difference here is that she isn't annoying, she just has a cute personality and insane strength, which are waifu materials, i guess. But other than that, she has no contribution to the story other than just be there in the battle of Fan castle.
Yeah what the other person said, from what i saw its cause she doesnt add anything and was made playable when characters like liao hua, wang ping, jian yong and others are still NPCs. they just need to add more depth to them, I dont want them to get rid of them just add more depth to their stories!
personally for me Yuan Shao dw9 changed how I feel about his character. I love him now I think he as over the top he is, is very grounded and down to business when it comes to it plus the over the top part is him trying to uphold his family name. Can you imagine the stress he was under being a Yuan in the chaotic times?
Veery true, but if you see how Yuan Shao is displayed in Wo Long you'll see how good the character can get and since they helped make the game why not just use pointers from it. Yuan shao in Wo Long was awesome
Liu Bei is in my top five favorite characters. I kinda have a soft spot for his "virtue" he's like a kind hearted version of Cao Cao. Cao Cao is "the ends justify the means" Liu Bei is more of "every life has meaning". He seems to be the most "good" of the rulers. Cao Cao wanted to judge the other rulers and when he saw none fit, he chose himself to restore glory to the Han, but again he can be very cruel and ruthless. I don't really get the point of Wu. Their whole motivation is just "to spread the glory of the Sun family!" To me Wu is the worst kingdom. They really are only in this for glory and fame. Liu Bei is different. He just wants peace. He wants to cause as little pain as possible. Which is why Guan Yu's death, is my favorite part of the story. I love seeing my boy snap and just being like "No fk Wei fk what's smart, Wu killed my brother and I'm ripping their hearts out!" I'm pretty sure that's what he says. I also love his original weapon design, but post dw6 when they gave him the dual blades...YEAH! Now he's just soooo much fun to play. I just love how his musu attack, is just him flexing on everyone with endless sword flourishes. Liu Bei and Shu fans, we do exist mate!
Ayee! Im a shu fan too, I like a lot of the characters from Shu, they're my 2nd fave faction so I definitely share the sentiment. But Alot of people dont like them for their own reasons and thats okay, I love that this game brings out so many different opinions and thats what makes it great
GLORY TO LIU BEI!!! If I lived back in the late 180'S to early 200's I would have most definitely JOINED Liu Bei. Wu, to me is not an excellent kingdom. I do like, Sun Jian and Sun Ce as well as Sun Quan... But the rest....total train wrecks in my opinion.
Zhuge Liang is my favorite character and I usually favor strategist characters in the games and history. That being said, I do dislike the constant bias where Shu is good, Wei is bad and Wu gets less focus. Can thank Romance of the Three Kingdoms bias for that.
Indeed you can, but the games can make it to where it doesnt have to be like that, and I think theyve done a good job so far with it, but the bias is already there and its difficult to change with personalities like Jiang Wei :/
Cao Cao had the entire population of Xu Province killed when he fought Tao Qian. And he had the farmers overworked which caused rebellion in Jing giving Guan Yu the opening he needed. Cao Ren then killed everyone involved including the civilians. Cao Cao gets you in the first half but when he says I can do whatever I want because the world is in a bad state he looses you especially after his famous conversation with Liu Bei. Where he says showing compassion to an enemy is wrong. When in reality it should depend on the enemy and who your fighting especially after he pacified the Yellow Turban remnants with farm land so he went against his own words once.
Finally, Shu hegemony in a top! Also, you can add Zhang Bao and Zhou Cang to the Guan kids. Like, Guan Yu no longer had any kids to add so they took his fictional bodyguard.
As Shu Fan The truth of Zhang fei I look at him so different because of his background specially with his wife . Now Jiang Wei Chile he took things to far, Liu Shan I get why people don’t like him but I understood why he did what he did he was tired of it so and as far as xiao qiao just make both of them mature minded and in looks it could be better if they did that
I hate yuan shao but how the hell Xiao Qiao is hated. She is adorable and she has this brave innocence and always try to help or cheer Zhou Yu up. Sure she is kinda clingy and her voice is kinda annoying but she loves her sister and husband. I’m biased because I love her double fans moveset haha

If Exclusive to only Playable Characters, Yuan Shu should also be considered in the list, at least Top 3 , He basically withdraw Sun Jian's supply line during the fight against Dong Zhuo, where he was the only one at the frontlines , and he was the ONLY WARLOAD THAT SUPPORTS THE YUAN'S FORCE . Yuan Shu then conspires to kill him and provoke him when Sun Jian has the Imperial Seal, even though Sun Jian didn't even want it. He then gains control over the WU's strongest generals, and guess the f*ck he does afterwards. HE TRADES ALL OF HIS GENERALS FOR A PIECE OF ROCK (which he technically owns since Sun's family were under Yuan Shu's alliance (or probably Yuan Shao)) THEN DECLARES HIMSELF TO BE THE EMPEROR, IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE SURROUNDED BY OTHER WARLOADS . Then wonders why he was defeated. like bruh. Then we have Zhong Hui, Jin Dynasty. A f*cking retard. literally team killed his entire colleagues, then rebels with....... a defeated army of Shu. then argues to Jiang Wei on why he lost.

as a Shu fan,seeing a lot of Shu officers hurts me😭. but yeah i agree on some of the takes about Jiang Wei,Wei Yan,Liu Shan,Guans Family and Zhang Fei(even though personally I like Zhang Fei more than Guan Yu🥲). but i really like Liu Bei before the Battle of Yi Ling.if only he could've listen to Zhuge Liang.cuz i remember crying while playing the battle for the first time(I started with DW6,and the cutscenes really killed me)

Ughh Play DW5 then DW4 you will like these games way more and then play DW8 imho DW4 gave the best experience in all sides of the game the way to play story mode over and over to find new things too is unique and hidden story and stages are unlocked by certain conditions and the different game modes as well DW5 was refreshing because of the new characters and design DW6 is just the worst DW7 was them trying to fix things and DW8 is them actually fixing it but it still lacked the feeling DW4 and 5 gave
@@Elmondo1994 i know, it's crazy to think of it back😭. Actually I started with DW5E but in the case of the original DW series,I started with DW6. But I played 3,4,5,5E,5XL,6,7E & 8E. For the entire Empires Series, I would say 7 is the best, followed by 5. But in the case of the original ones, 5 is my personal fav,7 is the best cutscenes,6 is the best BGM(even though I'm a bit biased cuz it brings back the nostalgia),4 is also overall great,the battlefield in 3 is fun,but the cutscenes are just too cringy. How can people hate Liu Bei and Jian Wei man!? All they ever wanted was to create a better world for the people- a land of benevolence! They are both tragic and flawed characters with a heart of gold! Wei Yan - I actually like how he is portrayed in the game! Despite all the mistrust from Zhuge Liang and other Shu officers Wei Yan is a feral beast of warrior who is fiercely loyal to his master Liu Bei and the Kingdom of Shu! His Move-set is cool as heck- His feral moans and grunts adds to his personality! Loved his DW9 ending! Han Dang /Xu Chu/Guan Suo- As you said they all need a Character/Personality/Weapon revamp! Guan Xing - He along with Zhang Bao represent the future of Shu! He is a bit bland but I definitely don't hate him! Zhan Fei - Yea not the most likable character but there is nothing wrong with the way he is in the game! A heavy-violent drunkard who is loyal to the death to his brothers! Yuan Shao - Arrogant- aristocrat with a personality to match! Makes it all the more satisfying when he is humbled by Cao Cao! I don't think that needs to be changed! Dong Zhuo should be number 1 in the list ! He was tyrannical scum in history and is a tyrannical scum in the game! There is nothing to change about him! He is exactly how he should be!!

It hurts me that ppl hates jiang wei this much. After being treated like a trash by wei, zhuge liang saw his potential and gave hima new reason to fight for a land of benevolence... and he sticked to that till the end, i dont see why is that to be hated.
It sounds like your list is going based on if a character is good or evil, rather than they're design, personality, and execution. For example you say Dong Zhuo should be 1. In my opinion he was a pretty well made character that everyone loves beat up because of how slimy and evil he is. I'd personally put Zhao Yun at 1 because to me, he comes off as a goody 2 shoes who has 1 standing out part in history, yet he's portrayed as some kind of anime super hero. He's also obsessed with "justice" like most of the Shu warriors, and has little personality outside of that.
Man Yuan Shao was such a fall from grace. I remember playing DW5 for the first time (my first entry) and thinking hey this guy is cool. He has gold armor, I love his attitude and charisma especially with Hu Lao gate. He just had this presence about him. He felt like a strong leader especially when he had Liu Bei and Cao Cao under his banner at times. So sad to see after that his character change was just so so so bad. Like who asked for that 🤷♂️
Honestly the whole game needs a revamp. Dynasty warriors 3 and 4, soldiers where legit difficult. Killing 1000 was beyond a feat early game, enemies and allies had active strategies. Bases had gates. I like the improvement to combat styles and diverse weapons but honestly the whole game series needs drastic improvement to keep my interest. Also storyline. Slowly build them. If the guan kids do not have anything now. Add 2 to 3 missions in dynasty warriors 10. Then 1 or 2 more in 11. Also make strategies matter again. That would be nice.
I would say a mix of all the games would be great. Bodyguards Character story mode from older games. Base system from dw6 and tomes. Weapon switch from dw7. Multiple type of musou from dw8. No open world like the one in dw9.
Personally I really dislike Liu Shan because he's too "realistic" for a warriors game. We have someone like Zhao Yun who is known for his prowess, bravery, and loyalty. We have the wise genius Zhuge Liang where his stratagems able to turn the tide of battlefield... There's also someone like Dong Zhuo was intentionally designed to be the villain. He's unattractive, greedy, etc. And someone like Pang Tong/Zuo Ci is just straight up weird and mysterious, yet these 3 examples still have their own charm. The former was necessary because he exist to be hated, and the latter two was somewhat weird and funny. It's quite interesting to play as the "fat evil guy", or the rice farmer ninja, or even the funny mustache magic grandpa. Meanwhile we have Liu Shan who act all lethargic, cowardly, irritating, and indecisive. Also his design is just so... bland when compared to other "colorful" characters. He's very lacking in any charm. He's not the cool powerful character, nor he's the smart scheming character, he's not overly evil to be totally hated, and he doesn't even qualify as the weird or funny character. Personally, I always enjoy playing as the leaders, cool, flashy characters (eg: Cao Cao, Xiahou Dun, Xu Shu, etc). And interestingly, my little brother enjoys playing the "weird", less popular characters such as Dian Wei and Meng Huo (to name a few), just for the sole reason because the former is bald buff guy, and the latter because he fought like a wrestler and punches people. In Liu Shan case, we just straight up ignores him because he's too boring. So yeah, not too fond of him.
Historically Liu Bei was much more brutal than how he was portrayed in the books and especially the game. That being said benevolent leadership is a good thing, but unfortunately more often than not the most brutal regimes claim benevolence and once they get in power they show themselves to be anything but benevolent. I like Liu Bei in the game, but also realize it may not be a very accurate representation of how he really was.
True, but that also probably rings true for every character in history as it was a brutal time period. but for the most part my vids are a reflection of them in game, and in game most of the characters are pretty dope 😁
Yeah, it goes without saying that to be a successful warlord you cannot be a kind sweet person overall. Be that as it may, it comparison to most other warlords Liu Bei was quite kind. He was known to be very polite, very personable and treated people with kindness no matter their station. There is even a record of when he was the mayor of Ping Yuan (i think that was the city) where one of the local nobles hated Liu Bei so he hired an assassin. When he assassin met Liu Bei he was invited to join for dinner and was so impressed by Liu Bei he ended up telling Liu Bei what he was hired for and by whom. Also Liu Bei was pretty much the only major warlord who didn't slaughter civilians, nor did he tend to kill the family members of officers who defected/betray him. No saint but known for being better then his competition.

Actually, historically, he was a lot younger. Guan Yu told Cao Cao in 198ish that he wanted to marry Lu Bu's wife as his current wife didn't give him any sons. Most likely, Guan Ping was born a little after 200. So, most likely, he was around 16 to 18 years old when he was executed.
Dynasty warriors 3 had the best Xu Zhu/club mainly cause there really wasn't many alternatives. It felt so good swinging and wiping out everyone around you. It just felt sooooo satisfying.
Semi-Sanguozhi (which the whole RotK franchising is based off of) buff here. The historical Zhang Fei wasn’t a drunkard, however he was notorious for his fiery temper and abuse of personnel, which led to Luo Guanzhong romanticizing him into being an alcoholic because it fit in with the personality. Further, the historical Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, and Guan Yu were known to have engaged in banditry in much of their early career. And Liu Bei was known to be as conniving as the other warlords of the time, he just had exceedingly good interpersonal skills. The historical Zhao Yun had little actual documentation about himself other than he was a general of some skill under Liu Bei, but that he fell out of favor at some point. I could go on about the blaring contrasts between historical Wu and RotK Wu. 😅
@@TheNightowlGaming yeah, the novelization adds life and personality to an otherwise dry and “by the standards” accounting of a historical event. I just wish some things(like Wu’s involvement) hadn’t been twisted *so* much.
It always drove me nuts how they tried so hard to try to make Zhao look like some sort of god-like hero when he didn't really even have any special history in the first place. All they seem to have consistent was that he saved a baby. All these cinematic scenes with him have nothing to do with anything he actually did.
Liao hua lived from the start to almost the finish line of the tree Kingdom period (if i Remember correctly he Is probably the only officer Who lived fo almost 90 years!) So what are they waiting for to make him a playble character? Edit: i personally like the club but Is not my favorite, i don't have a real reason why i like It maybe because in dw3 that was a different type of weapon that most officers had, and I'm probably the only one that plays Xiaoqiao instead of Daqiao, same as xu zhu/chu my dw3 Memories with her weapon and her Attack set was Better than Daqiao
I agree the only time I dislike Xiao qiao moveset is her one fan moveset in dynasty warriors 8 . But I love her DLC double fans moveset in dynasty warriors 8 empires I think Liao hua should be be added in Shu’s roster in dynasty warriors 10
Yeah I just recently used her in dw3 her moveset is so fast, its good and yeah Liao Hua is an awesome opportunity to make a good story and add on to some really good pieces, similar to Cheng Pu. I just hope its not as bland as DW9 and they will be good
I’m glad there’s a mix of “love to hate” characters like DZ. I loved his original design and his redesign, just oozing scumbagginess. Poor Jiang Wei. I think everyone wants to love him, but he just gets done dirty in the early stories, and apparently took a turn for the obnoxious in 9. And Wei Yan…I love that character, even with his self-inflicted tragic decision making, but fuck, that speech pattern. I do love in one of the Orochi games when Zhao Yun refers to him as “my ineloquent friend.”
Honestly, i quite like Han Dang's quirk in DW. But i can see why you didn't like that. I probably need to read his actual historical profile though. Edit: after i read it. I theorized that the reason why he's obsessed with being recognized is that when he served Sun Jian through Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Dong Zhuo campaingn, he is technically only a mercenary despite serving in the main army. Hence why he isn't awarded any titles despite his hard work and many contributions in battle.
Yeah and I can see that, however the games obviously put an emphasis on how important Han Dang is to Sun Jian and the vets of Wu so maybe his arc they have battles and moments him trying even harder to stand out and become more and eventually does instead of being the way he is, instead of weepy he's more humble about his contributions, or if they wanna spice it up have that be a conflict of early days of Wu where maybe he gets into heated arguments with others or something. There is opportunity there they just need to build on it
Xu zhu was such a silly character. My dad and cousins used to play dynasty warriors 3 with me when i was a kid and we always called him lunch box haha. Been beinge watching your videos! Tbf, characters like guan siblings and sanniang doesn't really deserve to be "hated" only because of their lack of historical relevance. If you're upset on the lack of story depth then you should blame the developer instead of the characters
Like a lot of the later characters, the Guan siblings just need more fleshing out. Heck, Xing and Zhang Bao were (allegedly) sworn brothers, but they're only together for like two battles. But really, besides about 20-25 of the cast, everyone needs so much more fleshing out. I'd take shorter battles in favor of more cutscenes and character moments. Really, with the exception of about 5-6 early game NPCs, most new characters should be in that middle to late period to flesh that out more. For a game set in the Three Kingdoms period, 90% of the missions take place before the period actually begins. I like Xiaoqiao's moveset and her general characterization is fine, I guess, but she never does anything. It was so weird in DW6 when they cut DaQiao, who had loads more development and personality. Again, I'd have to reiterate my point that a huge chunk of the cast needs fleshed out.
i am a whopping 6 months late, but Bao and Xing were never sworn brothers historically. Both died well before they saw any combat. Their entire story was made up for the book. Just like most of Guan Yu's story.

Personally, I would have switched Jiang Wei’s placement with Xiao Qiao. Mainly because of Jiang Wei’s motivation to fight. Benevolence through war. Not even Lu Bu had a reason to fight like him. Edit - Surprised Zhong Hui was not mentioned for his english dub voice. People petitioned for that change to be denied.
I can understand why people don't like the ones in the list. Personally, I like Guan Yinping the most from Shu, she is the least annoying. I think the biggest problem with Shu, is they deify Guan Yu and Zhuge Liang so much, it leaves no room for anyone else to shine. My ten least liked(in no order) are: Jiang Wei, Zhong Hui, Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei, Ma Chao, Xu Chu, Zhang Jiao, Yuan Shao, Zuo Ci and Zhang Chunhua. There are more that I don't like, but I think those are the worst for me.
It's one of these reasons I'm very against the mainstream mentality or the fans that influence this list. They see a flaw in something, they overexaggerate it and let it define their opinion, forgetting the rest. It's why I now like the Shu faction even more. Beforehand, I like them for simplistic reason, like benevolence and justice. However, as time goes on, I'm finding myself to like them more as they're actually the underdogs, hated by the fandom because they're not as perfect as they're presented as. I'm fine with imperfections, and always looking for both the good and bad. I think it's a matter of when you present Dynasty Warriors into people with strongly 'Western' ethics, morality standards and culture of fandom-ing. But for those who don't follow those (because, like, maybe they're born in the Eastern part of the world?), it might not generate a similar dislike. I'm Indonesian and I'm not quite following this fandom mindset.
Yeah for sure culturally is why alot of these characters made people's list but I think holistically speaking that most of the characters on the list have a poor rep in the story and thats why they get their flak, but I totally understand your point. Koei could make the perfect game hitting everyone's requests and would still make some people unhappy
He is kinda of an ass though. Sure he is one of the most mightiest warriors in the three kingdom and he is loyal to his brothers and family ,but he is a drunkard, physically abuse his men that leads to his death, and kidnapped Xiahou Yuan’s niece, Xiahou Ji and force her to be his bride.

Surprised about Xiao Qiao honestly lol. I never disliked her but she was never my favorite character. I do find it funny how most of these characters were on your revamp video 😂 But as much as I love the series they really should take a more serious approach to it. Like Xiao Qiao is a perfect example. In the games she has the mentality of a 8 year old. And with Dong Zhuo obviously at this point we all know why we dislike him but let see him actually burning Luo Yang and laughing. Or having him killing a servant that spoke to him a certain way. I wish they would go all out in these games but their very tip-toey with it. My favorite thing with the series are the duels. Maybe you can do a top ten about that! Wei is probably my least favorite faction because it has so many characters with annoying gimmicks. There is big dum dum man Xu Zhu, flamboyant Zhang He, eternally sick Guo Huai, etc. But then "please remember me" Han Dang from Wu is also pretty annoying.
I used to play Xu Shu first in every game to finish his story, max his stats, and get his weapons. I felt like I could finally play the game after that.

Reasonable list, I must say lol. Here's my Top 3 most HATED and WORST characters in Dynasty Warriors in my opinion: 3.) Jiang Wei - Firstly, the "BENEVOLENCE BENEVOLENCE BENEVOLENCE" talk. Secondly, he sided with Zhong Hui in his rebellion. 2.) Yuan Shu - Doesn't give supplies to Sun Jian in Si Shui Gate. Next, he declared himself emperor... for a mere Imperial Seal I call cake. 1.) Zhong Hui - I hate his personality, I hate his historical figure, I hate how he tried to rebel against Sima Zhao after the Fall of Shu. I HATE his DLC story in DW9. Worst Charcter Ever. And don't get me started on his broken-ass DW9 Weapon. Overall, I will ALWAYS execute my Top 3 hated characters in 9 Empires regardless of my situation. I may have spared Jiang Wei once, but yeah, I'm always gonna execute those 3 characters every time I come across these scrawny little bastards. So yeah, here's my list lmao.

Heh... OF COURSE Xiao Qiao ends up being the most hated. Western fans are so predictable when it comes to dislike certain characters in videogames made by the japanese, as soon as a cutesy little girl with obvious anime traits shows up. The hate you guys have for her is not because of her characterization, it's because of the contrasting culture between your own and Japan's. You need to expect over the top portrayals like this because you need to remember that this is still a japanese videogame franchise. Based on ancient China yes, but still made by the japanese, meaning that anime aspects are going to be there, subtle or openly. So in reality the true reason why you people hate Xiao Qiao so freaking much is because you are not used to this, or maybe because it's a big reminder that the true main audience still remains the japanese community, not ours. And side note: Xiao Qiao is one of the strongest characters in Dynasty Warriors 4, at least in my experience.
thats fine and there's nothing wrong with that, if you're advocating for her personality to remain the same I could see that, but if the argument is for like the age thing ehhh idk about that, cause then that would mean everyone should be okay with xiahouji too, all im saying and everyone that put her on the list is that they should make her more relatable and grounded as a character.

Just like how Tekken western fans have a heart attack when there's Lucky Chloe on screen (And in the past, their main target was Xiaoyu and now even if she's more 'mature' and 'serious' people can't freaking stop hating her) and claim "it's so anime" when the series has freaking devils, animals, dinosaurs in the roster and it's known for it's over the top slapstick humor endings in the series, completely disregarding that Tekken is a japanese franchise, so this is to be expected. Dynasty Warriors is basically the same. It is a cheesy over the top videogame franchise based on the Romance Of The Three Kingdoms. It is not supposed to be an overly edgy serious or accurate representation of China's history. Even in the old games, where the characters were at least more "serious", there were still some over the top and even funny moments (and no, it's not just the hilarious english voice acting in DW3 or the mispronunciation of the names such as "Cow Cow") like the way Meng Huo speaks and interracts with his wife, Xu Zhu's entire character, Zhang Jiao's creepy zealot attitude... it was ALWAYS an anime-like videogame series. So a character like Xiao Qiao being like your typical cutesy 'immature' anime little girl should come up to no surprise. So the hate is not because of how underdeveloped she is, it's because western fans have apparently some schizophrenia the moment a character like this shows up, to the point of hating her even more than actual hateful character like Dong Zhuo. I'm simply pointing out the craziness surrounding this kind of hate.
For sure, and that's completely understandable, everyone's got their love and hate for the game and you cant make everyone happy even if they put out a "perfect" game, but everyone's got their opinions and at the end of the day, I just love talking anything and everything about the franchise as it is near and dear to me and always will be🤙🤙 @@ZIggler9

I didnt play much modern Dynasty, but i play some old ROTK. Jiang Wei was one of my fave, i mean when i play shu, many good general will die in late game, makes me relly on jiang wei so much. Heck sometime even i pick him as successor rather than playing Lui Chan XD
Yeah a list I could unleash my hatred 😁. Special choice Xiahou Ji: This character should not exist in first place and have to be removed in next game. You can't create a romantic story from an abduction. Historical Zhang Fei is already a nut job but still important and he is okay in games. 1-Bao Shanniang: Most useless character. She is the wife of another useless character that waste of space. 2-Guan and Zhang kids: Most of them are unnecessary characters that have no place in the game. Just Xing Cai and Guan Ping are enough. Others just steals more important characters places. 3-Qiao Sisters: They are boring characters that just exist because of novel shenanigans. I actually like younger sister more than stone cold unlikable elder sister. 4-Sun Shangxiang: Okay, they are trying to make this weird political marriage some sort of romantic story but it doesn't work. Liu Bei is still SSX's father age and making her Liu Bei fangirl is not interesting. I really don't know how they could fix her . 5-Zhu Ran: He is lame. His moveset is lame. He is no match for Lu Xun. 6-Jiang Wei: He is incredibly annoying. He is the real reason of Shu's downfall, how Sima family dissing him is hilarious. He is an important character and game needs him, just making him less annoying and that could work. 7-Dong Zhou: In theory you shoud hate him, he was a cruel monster in history but I hate him all the wrong reasons. He is just boring in the game. His characterization is not interesting. Make him more capable serious thread, that make him a good villian. He was better in old games. 8-Yuan Shao: Similar case. Make him more capable, it could fix him. 9-Han Dang: He is boring. 10- Ma Chao: My personal beef. I never liked Ma Chao, he has cool moveset I can't deny that, just not fan of his shenanigans.
What i want in the next game but im not sure it will happen after how people received the new Samurai Warriors, but i think they need to reboot the games, start with a smaller roster of HISTORICAL people, have more detailed and less arcadey maps(like realistic maps not what we got in 8) and add an aging system so we can follow how old some of the characters are at what point in the story because ive been playing since DW2 and to this day i still have trouble remembering how old people were at what point
This video shook me. I have really only played Dynasty Warriors 3-5 and 5 extremely religiously. Xiao Qiao was my favorite character to play. The Musou is my favorite one of all the characters.
Xiao qiao is actually one of my favorite characters. She just reminds me of one of the over the top perky girls from tv with the childlike innocence yet cute and charming enough that you want to wife her up cause you need that energy around you. The designs of her weapon throughout the series has been hit or miss but it's manageable. I honestly place her in my top 6 favorite characters
I actually like Han Dang and Bao Sanniang and i don't mind numbers 7 to 2. I can understand Zhang Fei historically. I can definitely understand Xiaoqiao but complaining about Xu Zhu being unrealistic is dumb especially in a game with magic and characters who can throw fire balls and ice shards around also i don't mind the club

Funny thing, one line of dialog made me like Ma Dai, and it's him randomly referencing Scar Face in empires 9. On a side note, I love how dynasty warriors, for the most part, does not depict anyone as being directly evil because in war, it's not that simple, well except for Dong Zhuo
Nice video I used to play the series constantly. I stopped around 6 when they changed the weapons and stuff. Sad to see what happened to Jiang Wei. He used to be a fun character to use. Totally agree with most of these (some characters I don't know at all since they were introduced after I stopped playing). Some of those outfits in the newer games look amazing - especially Zhou Yu and Cao Pi. My favorite character has always been Gan Ning. I laughed at number 1. And yes, nobody likes the club.
Cao Cao for me he's someone I say is he gets you in the first half but as soon as he extends to I can do whatever I want because of the state the world is in he looses me. Cao Cao had the entire population of Xu Province killed when he fought Tao Qian. And he overworked the farmers to the point they rebelled in which gave Guan Yu the opening he needed to attack Fan Castle. Cao Ren had everyone who rebelled killed including civilians. So the idea of killing civilians isn't foreign to them.

I love GUan Yinping too! But she gets lumped in with her brothers because she's not a historical character and took the spots of characters people thought should be playable like liao hua, so that's why ppl dislike them!
Liu Shan deserves more respect, at least in Dynasty Warriors. Bro wanted peace in China and knew that he was continuing it, even if he couldn't rule a unified China, he knew that there would at least be a unified China, moreso, he knew that he couldn't win and that he was dooming many to die if the conflict continued.
My defenses for number 1 and 2: they both have really meme-y musou attacks. I mean, I get we're fighting in a war and all but lemme just play volleyball (you're the ball) or "EVERYONE! GIVE ME ALL YOU STRENGTH!!" *powers up for ten episodes* "FRIEZA!! TAKE THIS, THE COMBINED MIGHT OF EARTH! SPIRIT BOMB!!" *hurls a ball of pure energy bigger than the sun towards the ground*

Honestly, i would put Dong Bai somewhere on the top 10 list, maybe in Zhang Fei's or Xiao Qiao's position :))) But that's just me, i'm just salty that they got the audacity to make her out of all people, a playable/Unique NPC instead of many other significant figures like Liao Hoa or Zhuge Jin
Speaking of Unique NPC, i would love if Koei give it to other significant warlords at the time like Liu Biao, Ma Teng or Gongsun Zan, etc. We already got Yuan Shu, so i hope the rest would soon follow.
I like most of it, but here's my top hated characters: 1. Ma Chao - The most hypocritical character ever to exist in Dynasty Warriors. Preaching out Justice loud but harboring revenge against Cao Cao and even slaughtering Wang Yi's family 2. Zhang Fei - His attitude really makes me sick to the core. I have no remorse whenever see him dead. I even say "you reap what you sow, idiot" 3. Jiang Wei - Don't too eager to uphold and fight for something you know you couldn't achieve if the reality is against you 4. Guan Yinping - Actually, I didn't hate her when she is initially playable. I hate her ever since she's part of integral story in Warriors Orochi 4 5. Liu Bei - Dude, what's the point of benevolence if you're ending up consuming revenge and hatred over your brother's death toward his killer. 6. Dong Zhuo - simply because of his history, nothing else 7. Sun Shangxiang - her availability in the Wu story and personality. I just hate her being available as early as possible in other DW series and being the only playable female character in DW7 story. Not mentioning her girl-tomboyish personality, why don't you make her even manlier and warrior-ish also her outfit should reflect on that 8. Wei Yan - KOEI missed the opportunity to explore his rebellion and death over his rebellion's failure. He could be barbaric, have a broken speech pattern but also (just a lil bit) smart and traitorous as well 9. Yuan Shao - I prefer his pre DW6 persona, tbh. Not a big fan of his current persona as it suits Yuan Shu more 10. Xu Shu - unfortunately his low self-esteem and confidence makes him regretful of not being able to unleash his full potential. That's it

10. That’s fair. I do wish they do more with his relationship with Cao Cao, and actually make him feel like a threat. He has the largest army at that time after all. 9. Yeah he complains a lot about being noticed, but his ending in DW9 did him justice. Plus, I did like his relationship with Cheng Pu. He showed a more softer side when Cheng Pu scolded the youth. Han Dang was actually the only one to believe the new generation. 8. Can’t disagree. Her personality sucks. She’s just there for Guan Suo and they don’t do anything with their relationship. It almost feels like Guan Suo friendzones her all the time. Can’t lie though, Spinner is totally broken in DW8. 7. But you’re supposed to hate him. He is basically an evil tyrant villain. 6. Yes! Can we talk about how crappy Shu adds are? The fact they just keep adding anyone relating to Guan Yu and Zhang Fei is so annoying and unnecessary (Zhou Cang included). Like we get it. Can we make other more important characters? 5. I’m gonna say it again, but almost all of the characters are horrible real life people that did disgusting things. If Zhang Fei is here then I think others like Cao Pi are also guilty. 4. I think that’s the point. Jiang Wei is like an annoying pest that you can never get rid of, always escaping at the last second. About the benevolence thing, he’s not the only one. Almost every Shu scene a character will say that word in the modern games. It’s bad because Wei never said ambition that much. 3. I like him, but his speech thing does ruin his character. Because of it, he doesn’t get much relationship with other characters like Zhuge Liang. I think he does need a change. 2. Self-explanatory. They ruin his historical portrayal and the club sucks in almost every game. 1. This was quite a shocker, but I do see it. She suffers the same issues as Bao Sanniang. Her childish personality can be too much, and she has 0 chemistry with Zhou Yu. If they fix that, she’ll be as good as her sister. As for the awkward age thing, I might be wrong but I thought Zhou Yu, Sun Ce, and the Qiaos were all teens when married.
People hating Xu Zhu genuinely feels like the decision is made with shallowness in mind... He does not deserve to be as hated as he is. Hate a character for their personality and place in history/story, not for the design... He's had so many wonderful moments and is a great character. I love him and Dian Wei a lot. I agreed with everyone else though. Except Yuan Shao. I love him to deeeaaatthhhh.

Wei Yan and Xu Zhu absolutely need redesigns. They are bad caricatures of vague traits Koei over-embellished, which undermines the importance they played for their respective kingdoms.

Yuan Shao from DW2 to 5E was a pretty good character, especially in 3XL. From 6 onwards it was decadence... Same thing Jiang Wei (but I particularly like this one).
Nice video thanks man! For me I always liked Zhangfei historically and in the game. Historically he was a way more reliable fighter and leader than Guanyu (think about it), in the game he’s basically a funnier Lubu.
Jiang Wei was my fav in 3,4,5 and I was so mad he wasnt in 6 and when he came back in 7 not only was he annoying but his move set was terrible and it just felt bad to play as him.
For me, a lot of characters were ruined after the release of DW6. Some of these really surprised me, as I have always liked Wei Yan for example. Others like Liu Bei and Yuan Shao, I liked until DW5 but their changes were far too stark after. My top 5 hated, in no particular order 1. Pang Tong (he has a purpose in the story but not a playable character I ever have any interest in using) 2. Dong Zhuo (I liked him as a character until dw6 then he was simply ruined to me) 3. Zhang Jiao (his preaching was always quite grating, but I get that’s his angle) 4. Yuan Shu (I didn’t like how over the top ‘sneaky villain’ they made him out to be. If it had toned down, he’d have been more palatable) 5. Liu Bei, his son too (I used to love him from Dw3-5, but from 6 onwards he just seemed too young and too cartoonish for my liking. Maybe I’m not putting it well)
honestly, i do main xiao qiao but she does do a little too much when it comes to asking for praise/pats from zhou yu, other than that she deserves a little more persona the only character i personally dislike is probably zhu ran, just because he did one fire attack at yi ling and practically made it his whole personality….hes not a bad character but when he makes everything about “fire” or something relating to it. got kinda repetitive
so mucu wasted potential…lotta characters that deserve so much more than just a good design. NOT to mention they literally gave Zhu Ran a FLAME BOW, hmmm i wonder why….

In empires 8, I play as Dong Zhou and only recruit female officers. Then I realize I can't maintain the kingdom since there are only a few female officers available and also none of them has strategist ability. So I recruited Guo Hai as the only male playable officer, and a bunch of NPC officers for manpower and then when there was only one enemy kingdom left, I executed/fired all the male officers lol. It's so funny when a female officer confessed love to Dong Zhou, I couldn't stop laughing for almost a full minute.
How is Sun Quan not on the list? He rode off on the success of others, he ends up backstabbing an ally when there was a bigger monster they had to face right in front of them and he ends up being another example of the overplayed anime trope of the unattractive socially inept boy being able to get with the smoking hot girl. Okay yes I get you wanted Jing province back but can you not wait until AFTER Wei is beaten?

In addition, in many of the games, they made him really annoying talking about "The pride of the Sun Family" Every ten seconds! I get to emphatize with him in DW7, but his dialogues are too annoying TBH.
I thought that Jing Province was part of the deal from Liu Bei. As far as I know, Zhuge Liang or maybe Liu Bei send a letter to Wu's kingdom to participate attacking Wei at the same time.
Shu attacking from the West at Hanzhong and Wu attacking from the East at Hefei Castle.
And if Wu agree to attack Wei at the same time, Liu Bei promised to give Jing Province to them after that. But well you know, even after Wu agree to attack Hefei Castle with a 100.000 men, they got obliterated by Zhang Liao who defended Hefei Castle with only 800 men if I'm not mistaken.
That's why, despite the loss.. Sun Quan already give Shu an opportunity to take Hanzhong and then they recall the deal about Jing Province.
But unfortunately Guan Yu doesn't agree about that deal and refuse to give up Jing Province to Wu and then they wanted to take Jing Province at all cost even if they had to team up with Cao Ren from Wei. CMIIW

@@karmst1996 That's not the point, Shu just requested that Wu attacking Wei and if they agree to do so. Shu promised to give Jing province regardless of whether the attacks succeeds or fails.
But after Wu tried to invade Hefei, Shu breaks their promise.
Yuan Shao's characterization is really tragic. He can serve as such an interesting warlord to add depth and different dynamics to the early pre-3K portion of the game's storytelling. A bit of a pompous attitude would be very apt but as you say they drive it to the extent that he's almost entirely a one dimensional character
His defeat really signals Cao Caos ascension to superpower status and depicting Yuan Shao as an entirety self important moronic goofball really takes the wind out of it
There are lots of opportunities to flesh out chars like Zilong, Zhang He, Zhenji, and Yuan Shu w/ Yuan Shaos career as well. Shame really

I think she is hated the same way as Bao Sanniang. The difference here is that she isn't annoying, she just has a cute personality and insane strength, which are waifu materials, i guess. But other than that, she has no contribution to the story other than just be there in the battle of Fan castle.

personally for me Yuan Shao dw9 changed how I feel about his character. I love him now I think he as over the top he is, is very grounded and down to business when it comes to it plus the over the top part is him trying to uphold his family name. Can you imagine the stress he was under being a Yuan in the chaotic times?
Veery true, but if you see how Yuan Shao is displayed in Wo Long you'll see how good the character can get and since they helped make the game why not just use pointers from it. Yuan shao in Wo Long was awesome
Liu Bei is in my top five favorite characters. I kinda have a soft spot for his "virtue" he's like a kind hearted version of Cao Cao. Cao Cao is "the ends justify the means" Liu Bei is more of "every life has meaning". He seems to be the most "good" of the rulers. Cao Cao wanted to judge the other rulers and when he saw none fit, he chose himself to restore glory to the Han, but again he can be very cruel and ruthless. I don't really get the point of Wu. Their whole motivation is just "to spread the glory of the Sun family!" To me Wu is the worst kingdom. They really are only in this for glory and fame. Liu Bei is different. He just wants peace. He wants to cause as little pain as possible. Which is why Guan Yu's death, is my favorite part of the story. I love seeing my boy snap and just being like "No fk Wei fk what's smart, Wu killed my brother and I'm ripping their hearts out!" I'm pretty sure that's what he says. I also love his original weapon design, but post dw6 when they gave him the dual blades...YEAH! Now he's just soooo much fun to play. I just love how his musu attack, is just him flexing on everyone with endless sword flourishes. Liu Bei and Shu fans, we do exist mate!
Ayee! Im a shu fan too, I like a lot of the characters from Shu, they're my 2nd fave faction so I definitely share the sentiment. But Alot of people dont like them for their own reasons and thats okay, I love that this game brings out so many different opinions and thats what makes it great
Rotk is about shu and wei, but wu was there the whole time in the history so in the romance they are kind of just there as a random group of badasses.

If I lived back in the late 180'S to early 200's I would have most definitely JOINED Liu Bei. Wu, to me is not an excellent kingdom. I do like, Sun Jian and Sun Ce as well as Sun Quan... But the rest....total train wrecks in my opinion.
The problem with liu bei is that he is cartoony virtues and just end up kinda lame, ma chao is the virtuous character done right
Zhuge Liang is my favorite character and I usually favor strategist characters in the games and history. That being said, I do dislike the constant bias where Shu is good, Wei is bad and Wu gets less focus. Can thank Romance of the Three Kingdoms bias for that.
Indeed you can, but the games can make it to where it doesnt have to be like that, and I think theyve done a good job so far with it, but the bias is already there and its difficult to change with personalities like Jiang Wei :/
Cao Cao had the entire population of Xu Province killed when he fought Tao Qian. And he had the farmers overworked which caused rebellion in Jing giving Guan Yu the opening he needed. Cao Ren then killed everyone involved including the civilians. Cao Cao gets you in the first half but when he says I can do whatever I want because the world is in a bad state he looses you especially after his famous conversation with Liu Bei. Where he says showing compassion to an enemy is wrong. When in reality it should depend on the enemy and who your fighting especially after he pacified the Yellow Turban remnants with farm land so he went against his own words once.
Finally, Shu hegemony in a top! Also, you can add Zhang Bao and Zhou Cang to the Guan kids. Like, Guan Yu no longer had any kids to add so they took his fictional bodyguard.

As Shu Fan The truth of Zhang fei I look at him so different because of his background specially with his wife . Yuan Shu should also be considered in the list, at least Top 3 , He basically withdraw Sun Jian's supply line during the fight against Dong Zhuo, where he was the only one at the frontlines , and he was the ONLY WARLOAD THAT SUPPORTS THE YUAN'S FORCE . Yuan Shu then conspires to kill him and provoke him when Sun Jian has the Imperial Seal, even though Sun Jian didn't even want it. He then gains control over the WU's strongest generals, and guess the f*ck he does afterwards.
HE TRADES ALL OF HIS GENERALS FOR A PIECE OF ROCK (which he technically owns since Sun's family were under Yuan Shu's alliance (or probably Yuan Shao)) THEN DECLARES HIMSELF TO BE THE EMPEROR, IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE SURROUNDED BY OTHER WARLOADS .
Then wonders why he was defeated. like bruh.

@@Elmondo1994 i know, it's crazy to think of it back😭. Actually I started with DW5E but in the case of the original DW series,I started with DW6. But I played 3,4,5,5E,5XL,6,7E & 8E. For the entire Empires Series, I would say 7 is the best, followed by 5. But in the case of the original ones, 5 is my personal fav,7 is the best cutscenes,6 is the best BGM(even though I'm a bit biased cuz it brings back the nostalgia),4 is also overall great,the battlefield in 3 is fun,but the cutscenes are just too cringy. I'm sorry😭

Wei Yan - I actually like how he is portrayed in the game! Despite all the mistrust from Zhuge Liang and other Shu officers Wei Yan is a feral beast of warrior who is fiercely loyal to his master Liu Bei and the Kingdom of Shu! His Move-set is cool as heck- His feral moans and grunts adds to his personality! Loved his DW9 ending!
Han Dang /Xu Chu/Guan Suo- As you said they all need a Character/Personality/Weapon revamp!
Guan Xing - He along with Zhang Bao represent the future of Shu! He is a bit bland but I definitely don't hate him!
Zhan Fei - Yea not the most likable character but there is nothing wrong with the way he is in the game! A heavy-violent drunkard who is loyal to the death to his brothers!
Yuan Shao - Arrogant- aristocrat with a personality to match! Makes it all the more satisfying when he is humbled by Cao Cao! I don't think that needs to be changed!

It hurts me that ppl hates jiang wei this much. After being treated like a trash by wei, zhuge liang saw his potential and gave hima new reason to fight for a land of benevolence... and he sticked to that till the end, i dont see why is that to be hated.
It sounds like your list is going based on if a character is good or evil, rather than they're design, personality, and execution. For example you say Dong Zhuo should be 1. In my opinion he was a pretty well made character that everyone loves beat up because of how slimy and evil he is. I'd personally put Zhao Yun at 1 because to me, he comes off as a goody 2 shoes who has 1 standing out part in history, yet he's portrayed as some kind of anime super hero. He's also obsessed with "justice" like most of the Shu warriors, and has little personality outside of that.
Man Yuan Shao was such a fall from grace. I remember playing DW5 for the first time (my first entry) and thinking hey this guy is cool. He has gold armor, I love his attitude and charisma especially with Hu Lao gate. He just had this presence about him. He felt like a strong leader especially when he had Liu Bei and Cao Cao under his banner at times. So sad to see after that his character change was just so so so bad. Like who asked for that 🤷♂️
Yeah they went more cartoonish and made him more of a buffoon, its not as bad in DW9 I just wish they would tone it down more
Honestly the whole game needs a revamp. Dynasty warriors 3 and 4, soldiers where legit difficult. Killing 1000 was beyond a feat early game, enemies and allies had active strategies. Bases had gates. I like the improvement to combat styles and diverse weapons but honestly the whole game series needs drastic improvement to keep my interest. Also storyline. Slowly build them. If the guan kids do not have anything now. Add 2 to 3 missions in dynasty warriors 10. Then 1 or 2 more in 11. Also make strategies matter again. That would be nice.
I would say a mix of all the games would be great.
Bodyguards Character story mode from older games.
Base system from dw6 and tomes.
Weapon switch from dw7.
Multiple type of musou from dw8.
No open world like the one in dw9.

Personally I really dislike Liu Shan because he's too "realistic" for a warriors game. We have someone like Zhao Yun who is known for his prowess, bravery, and loyalty. We have the wise genius Zhuge Liang where his stratagems able to turn the tide of battlefield...
There's also someone like Dong Zhuo was intentionally designed to be the villain. He's unattractive, greedy, etc. And someone like Pang Tong/Zuo Ci is just straight up weird and mysterious, yet these 3 examples still have their own charm. The former was necessary because he exist to be hated, and the latter two was somewhat weird and funny. It's quite interesting to play as the "fat evil guy", or the rice farmer ninja, or even the funny mustache magic grandpa.
Meanwhile we have Liu Shan who act all lethargic, cowardly, irritating, and indecisive. Also his design is just so... bland when compared to other "colorful" characters. He's very lacking in any charm. He's not the cool powerful character, nor he's the smart scheming character, he's not overly evil to be totally hated, and he doesn't even qualify as the weird or funny character.
Personally, I always enjoy playing as the leaders, cool, flashy characters (eg: Cao Cao, Xiahou Dun, Xu Shu, etc). And interestingly, my little brother enjoys playing the "weird", less popular characters such as Dian Wei and Meng Huo (to name a few), just for the sole reason because the former is bald buff guy, and the latter because he fought like a wrestler and punches people. In Liu Shan case, we just straight up ignores him because he's too boring.
So yeah, not too fond of him.
I can respect that, I think he's built well in terms of a character and not meant to be more than what he is
I'll still say it. DW4-DW5 is the actual Yuan Shao. The one from DW6-onwards is an impostor who impersonated him.

Historically Liu Bei was much more brutal than how he was portrayed in the books and especially the game. That being said benevolent leadership is a good thing, but unfortunately more often than not the most brutal regimes claim benevolence and once they get in power they show themselves to be anything but benevolent. I like Liu Bei in the game, but also realize it may not be a very accurate representation of how he really was.
True, but that also probably rings true for every character in history as it was a brutal time period. but for the most part my vids are a reflection of them in game, and in game most of the characters are pretty dope 😁
Yeah, it goes without saying that to be a successful warlord you cannot be a kind sweet person overall. Be that as it may, it comparison to most other warlords Liu Bei was quite kind. He was known to be very polite, very personable and treated people with kindness no matter their station. There is even a record of when he was the mayor of Ping Yuan (i think that was the city) where one of the local nobles hated Liu Bei so he hired an assassin. When he assassin met Liu Bei he was invited to join for dinner and was so impressed by Liu Bei he ended up telling Liu Bei what he was hired for and by whom.
Also Liu Bei was pretty much the only major warlord who didn't slaughter civilians, nor did he tend to kill the family members of officers who defected/betray him.
No saint but known for being better then his competition.
And the way he betrayed a lot of people just made me don't like him as much play some his actions in history was questionable

Guan Ping was the eldest son of Guan Yu in historical records. He died when he was 42 years old
Actually, historically, he was a lot younger. Guan Yu told Cao Cao in 198ish that he wanted to marry Lu Bu's wife as his current wife didn't give him any sons. Most likely, Guan Ping was born a little after 200. So, most likely, he was around 16 to 18 years old when he was executed.
Dynasty warriors 3 had the best Xu Zhu/club mainly cause there really wasn't many alternatives. It felt so good swinging and wiping out everyone around you. It just felt sooooo satisfying.

Semi-Sanguozhi (which the whole RotK franchising is based off of) buff here.
The historical Zhang Fei wasn’t a drunkard, however he was notorious for his fiery temper and abuse of personnel, which led to Luo Guanzhong romanticizing him into being an alcoholic because it fit in with the personality.
Further, the historical Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, and Guan Yu were known to have engaged in banditry in much of their early career. And Liu Bei was known to be as conniving as the other warlords of the time, he just had exceedingly good interpersonal skills. The historical Zhao Yun had little actual documentation about himself other than he was a general of some skill under Liu Bei, but that he fell out of favor at some point.
I could go on about the blaring contrasts between historical Wu and RotK Wu. 😅
Lol for sure, the history and novel are so different but I like the dramatized version makes the game and characters more interesting

It always drove me nuts how they tried so hard to try to make Zhao look like some sort of god-like hero when he didn't really even have any special history in the first place. All they seem to have consistent was that he saved a baby. All these cinematic scenes with him have nothing to do with anything he actually did.

Liao hua lived from the start to almost the finish line of the tree Kingdom period (if i Remember correctly he Is probably the only officer Who lived fo almost 90 years!) So what are they waiting for to make him a playble character?
Edit: i personally like the club but Is not my favorite, i don't have a real reason why i like It maybe because in dw3 that was a different type of weapon that most officers had, and I'm probably the only one that plays Xiaoqiao instead of Daqiao, same as xu zhu/chu my dw3 Memories with her weapon and her Attack set was Better than Daqiao

Yeah I just recently used her in dw3 her moveset is so fast, its good and yeah Liao Hua is an awesome opportunity to make a good story and add on to some really good pieces, similar to Cheng Pu. I just hope its not as bland as DW9 and they will be good

Poor Jiang Wei. I think everyone wants to love him, but he just gets done dirty in the early stories, and apparently took a turn for the obnoxious in 9.
And Wei Yan…I love that character, even with his self-inflicted tragic decision making, but fuck, that speech pattern. I do love in one of the Orochi games when Zhao Yun refers to him as “my ineloquent friend.”

Honestly, i quite like Han Dang's quirk in DW. But i can see why you didn't like that. I probably need to read his actual historical profile though.
Edit: after i read it. I theorized that the reason why he's obsessed with being recognized is that when he served Sun Jian through Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Dong Zhuo campaingn, he is technically only a mercenary despite serving in the main army. Hence why he isn't awarded any titles despite his hard work and many contributions in battle.
Yeah and I can see that, however the games obviously put an emphasis on how important Han Dang is to Sun Jian and the vets of Wu so maybe his arc they have battles and moments him trying even harder to stand out and become more and eventually does instead of being the way he is, instead of weepy he's more humble about his contributions, or if they wanna spice it up have that be a conflict of early days of Wu where maybe he gets into heated arguments with others or something. There is opportunity there they just need to build on it

Tbf, characters like guan siblings and sanniang doesn't really deserve to be "hated" only because of their lack of historical relevance. If you're upset on the lack of story depth then you should blame the developer instead of the characters
right, also they should just give them more in the games
Like a lot of the later characters, the Guan siblings just need more fleshing out. Heck, Xing and Zhang Bao were (allegedly) sworn brothers, but they're only together for like two battles. But really, besides about 20-25 of the cast, everyone needs so much more fleshing out. I'd take shorter battles in favor of more cutscenes and character moments.
Really, with the exception of about 5-6 early game NPCs, most new characters should be in that middle to late period to flesh that out more.
For a game set in the Three Kingdoms period, 90% of the missions take place before the period actually begins.
I like Xiaoqiao's moveset and her general characterization is fine, I guess, but she never does anything. It was so weird in DW6 when they cut DaQiao, who had loads more development and personality. Again, I'd have to reiterate my point that a huge chunk of the cast needs fleshed out.
Yes alot to be done with the characters development, they just need to have the passion to sit down and make them really well
i am a whopping 6 months late, but Bao and Xing were never sworn brothers historically. Both died well before they saw any combat. Their entire story was made up for the book. Just like most of Guan Yu's story.

Personally, I would have switched Jiang Wei’s placement with Xiao Qiao. Mainly because of Jiang Wei’s motivation to fight. Benevolence through war. Not even Lu Bu had a reason to fight like him.

I can understand why people don't like the ones in the list. Personally, I like Guan Yinping the most from Shu, she is the least annoying. I think the biggest problem with Shu, is they deify Guan Yu and Zhuge Liang so much, it leaves no room for anyone else to shine.
My ten least liked(in no order) are: Jiang Wei, Zhong Hui, Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei, Ma Chao, Xu Chu, Zhang Jiao, Yuan Shao, Zuo Ci and Zhang Chunhua. There are more that I don't like, but I think those are the worst for me.

It's one of these reasons I'm very against the mainstream mentality or the fans that influence this list. They see a flaw in something, they overexaggerate it and let it define their opinion, forgetting the rest. It's why I now like the Shu faction even more. Beforehand, I like them for simplistic reason, like benevolence and justice. However, as time goes on, I'm finding myself to like them more as they're actually the underdogs, hated by the fandom because they're not as perfect as they're presented as. I'm fine with imperfections, and always looking for both the good and bad.
I think it's a matter of when you present Dynasty Warriors into people with strongly 'Western' ethics, morality standards and culture of fandom-ing. But for those who don't follow those (because, like, maybe they're born in the Eastern part of the world?), it might not generate a similar dislike. I'm Indonesian and I'm not quite following this fandom mindset.
Yeah for sure culturally is why alot of these characters made people's list but I think holistically speaking that most of the characters on the list have a poor rep in the story and thats why they get their flak, but I totally understand your point. Koei could make the perfect game hitting everyone's requests and would still make some people unhappy

But as much as I love the series they really should take a more serious approach to it. Like Xiao Qiao is a perfect example. In the games she has the mentality of a 8 year old. And with Dong Zhuo obviously at this point we all know why we dislike him but let see him actually burning Luo Yang and laughing. Or having him killing a servant that spoke to him a certain way. I wish they would go all out in these games but their very tip-toey with it. My favorite thing with the series are the duels. Maybe you can do a top ten about that! Even though I know DW rarely has cutscenes for that lol. Regardless great video! Still love the series!

Wei is probably my least favorite faction because it has so many characters with annoying gimmicks. There is big dum dum man Xu Zhu, flamboyant Zhang He, eternally sick Guo Huai, etc. But then "please remember me" Han Dang from Wu is also pretty annoying.

Here's my Top 3 most HATED and WORST characters in Dynasty Warriors in my opinion:
3.) Jiang Wei - Firstly, the "BENEVOLENCE BENEVOLENCE BENEVOLENCE" talk. Secondly, he sided with Zhong Hui in his rebellion.
2.) Yuan Shu - Doesn't give supplies to Sun Jian in Si Shui Gate. Next, he declared himself emperor... for a mere Imperial Seal I call cake.
1.) Zhong Hui - I hate his personality, I hate his historical figure, I hate how he tried to rebel against Sima Zhao after the Fall of Shu. I HATE his DLC story in DW9. Worst Charcter Ever. And don't get me started on his broken-ass DW9 Weapon.
Overall, I will ALWAYS execute my Top 3 hated characters in 9 Empires regardless of my situation. I may have spared Jiang Wei once, but yeah, I'm always gonna execute those 3 characters every time I come across these scrawny little bastards. So yeah, here's my list lmao.

Heh... OF COURSE Xiao Qiao ends up being the most hated. Western fans are so predictable when it comes to dislike certain characters in videogames made by the japanese, as soon as a cutesy little girl with obvious anime traits shows up. The hate you guys have for her is not because of her characterization, it's because of the contrasting culture between your own and Japan's. You need to expect over the top portrayals like this because you need to remember that this is still a japanese videogame franchise. Based on ancient China yes, but still made by the japanese, meaning that anime aspects are going to be there, subtle or openly. So in reality the true reason why you people hate Xiao Qiao so freaking much is because you are not used to this, or maybe because it's a big reminder that the true main audience still remains the japanese community, not ours.
And side note: Xiao Qiao is one of the strongest characters in Dynasty Warriors 4, at least in my experience.
thats fine and there's nothing wrong with that, if you're advocating for her personality to remain the same I could see that, but if the argument is for like the age thing ehhh idk about that, cause then that would mean everyone should be okay with xiahouji too, all im saying and everyone that put her on the list is that they should make her more relatable and grounded as a character.

Just like how Tekken western fans have a heart attack when there's Lucky Chloe on screen (And in the past, their main target was Xiaoyu and now even if she's more 'mature' and 'serious' people can't freaking stop hating her) and claim "it's so anime" when the series has freaking devils, animals, dinosaurs in the roster and it's known for it's over the top slapstick humor endings in the series, completely disregarding that Tekken is a japanese franchise, so this is to be expected.
Dynasty Warriors is basically the same. It is a cheesy over the top videogame franchise based on the Romance Of The Three Kingdoms. It is not supposed to be an overly edgy serious or accurate representation of China's history. Even in the old games, where the characters were at least more "serious", there were still some over the top and even funny moments (and no, it's not just the hilarious english voice acting in DW3 or the mispronunciation of the names such as "Cow Cow") like the way Meng Huo speaks and interracts with his wife, Xu Zhu's entire character, Zhang Jiao's creepy zealot attitude... it was ALWAYS an anime-like videogame series. So a character like Xiao Qiao being like your typical cutesy 'immature' anime little girl should come up to no surprise. So the hate is not because of how underdeveloped she is, it's because western fans have apparently some schizophrenia the moment a character like this shows up, to the point of hating her even more than actual hateful character like Dong Zhuo. I'm simply pointing out the craziness surrounding this kind of hate.
For sure, and that's completely understandable, everyone's got their love and hate for the game and you cant make everyone happy even if they put out a "perfect" game, but everyone's got their opinions and at the end of the day, I just love talking anything and everything about the franchise as it is near and dear to me and always will be🤙🤙 @@ZIggler9

She’s my main and go to I love all version of her from dw3 to dw8 however I dislike dw9 as a whole
I didnt play much modern Dynasty, but i play some old ROTK. Jiang Wei was one of my fave, i mean when i play shu, many good general will die in late game, makes me relly on jiang wei so much. Heck sometime even i pick him as successor rather than playing Lui Chan XD

Special choice Xiahou Ji: This character should not exist in first place and have to be removed in next game. You can't create a romantic story from an abduction. Historical Zhang Fei is already a nut job but still important and he is okay in games.
1-Bao Shanniang: Most useless character. She is the wife of another useless character that waste of space.
2-Guan and Zhang kids: Most of them are unnecessary characters that have no place in the game. Just Xing Cai and Guan Ping are enough. Others just steals more important characters places.
3-Qiao Sisters: They are boring characters that just exist because of novel shenanigans. I actually like younger sister more than stone cold unlikable elder sister.
4-Sun Shangxiang: Okay, they are trying to make this weird political marriage some sort of romantic story but it doesn't work. Liu Bei is still SSX's father age and making her Liu Bei fangirl is not interesting. I really don't know how they could fix her .
5-Zhu Ran: He is lame. His moveset is lame. He is no match for Lu Xun.
6-Jiang Wei: He is incredibly annoying. He is the real reason of Shu's downfall, how Sima family dissing him is hilarious. He is an important character and game needs him, just making him less annoying and that could work.
7-Dong Zhou: In theory you shoud hate him, he was a cruel monster in history but I hate him all the wrong reasons. He is just boring in the game. His characterization is not interesting. Make him more capable serious thread, that make him a good villian. He was better in old games.
8-Yuan Shao: Similar case. Make him more capable, it could fix him.
9-Han Dang: He is boring.
10- Ma Chao: My personal beef. I never liked Ma Chao, he has cool moveset I can't deny that, just not fan of his shenanigans.

What i want in the next game but im not sure it will happen after how people received the new Samurai Warriors, but i think they need to reboot the games, start with a smaller roster of HISTORICAL people, have more detailed and less arcadey maps(like realistic maps not what we got in 8) and add an aging system so we can follow how old some of the characters are at what point in the story because ive been playing since DW2 and to this day i still have trouble remembering how old people were at what point
Thats not a bad idea, I dont know about roster reduction, I think remastering might be coool but removing people I dont think is necessary
This video shook me. I have really only played Dynasty Warriors 3-5 and 5 extremely religiously. Xiao Qiao was my favorite character to play. The Musou is my favorite one of all the characters.

Xiao qiao is actually one of my favorite characters. She just reminds me of one of the over the top perky girls from tv with the childlike innocence yet cute and charming enough that you want to wife her up cause you need that energy around you. The designs of her weapon throughout the series has been hit or miss but it's manageable. I honestly place her in my top 6 favorite characters

I actually like Han Dang and Bao Sanniang and i don't mind numbers 7 to 2. I can understand Zhang Fei historically. I can definitely understand Xiaoqiao but complaining about Xu Zhu being unrealistic is dumb especially in a game with magic and characters who can throw fire balls and ice shards around also i don't mind the club

@TheNightowlGaming Hey, I get why you might dislike him if you're not a fan of one-note comedic characters. Funny thing, one line of dialog made me like Ma Dai, and it's him randomly referencing Scar Face in empires 9. On a side note, I love how dynasty warriors, for the most part, does not depict anyone as being directly evil because in war, it's not that simple, well except for Dong Zhuo

I used to play the series constantly. I stopped around 6 when they changed the weapons and stuff.
Sad to see what happened to Jiang Wei. He used to be a fun character to use.
Totally agree with most of these (some characters I don't know at all since they were introduced after I stopped playing).
Some of those outfits in the newer games look amazing - especially Zhou Yu and Cao Pi.
My favorite character has always been Gan Ning.

Cao Cao for me he's someone I say is he gets you in the first half but as soon as he extends to I can do whatever I want because of the state the world is in he looses me. Cao Cao had the entire population of Xu Province killed when he fought Tao Qian. And he overworked the farmers to the point they rebelled in which gave Guan Yu the opening he needed to attack Fan Castle. Cao Ren had everyone who rebelled killed including civilians. So the idea of killing civilians isn't foreign to them.

I love GUan Yinping too! But she gets lumped in with her brothers because she's not a historical character and took the spots of characters people thought should be playable like liao hua, so that's why ppl dislike them!
But...i think Yuan Shao is supposed to be a bit ectra flamboyant for levity. Like I couldn't imagine him being the same throughout the whole series.
Liu Shan deserves more respect, at least in Dynasty Warriors. Bro wanted peace in China and knew that he was continuing it, even if he couldn't rule a unified China, he knew that there would at least be a unified China, moreso, he knew that he couldn't win and that he was dooming many to die if the conflict continued.

My defenses for number 1 and 2: they both have really meme-y musou attacks. I mean, I get we're fighting in a war and all but lemme just play volleyball (you're the ball) or "EVERYONE! GIVE ME ALL YOU STRENGTH!!" *powers up for ten episodes* "FRIEZA!! TAKE THIS, THE COMBINED MIGHT OF EARTH! SPIRIT BOMB!!" *hurls a ball of pure energy bigger than the sun towards the ground*

I like most of it, but here's my top hated characters:
1. Ma Chao - The most hypocritical character ever to exist in Dynasty Warriors. Preaching out Justice loud but harboring revenge against Cao Cao and even slaughtering Wang Yi's family
2. Zhang Fei - His attitude really makes me sick to the core. I have no remorse whenever see him dead. I even say "you reap what you sow, idiot"
3. Jiang Wei - Don't too eager to uphold and fight for something you know you couldn't achieve if the reality is against you
4. Guan Yinping - Actually, I didn't hate her when she is initially playable. I hate her ever since she's part of integral story in Warriors Orochi 4
5. Liu Bei - Dude, what's the point of benevolence if you're ending up consuming revenge and hatred over your brother's death toward his killer.
6. Dong Zhuo - simply because of his history, nothing else
7. Sun Shangxiang - her availability in the Wu story and personality. I just hate her being available as early as possible in other DW series and being the only playable female character in DW7 story. Not mentioning her girl-tomboyish personality, why don't you make her even manlier and warrior-ish also her outfit should reflect on that
8. Wei Yan - KOEI missed the opportunity to explore his rebellion and death over his rebellion's failure. He could be barbaric, have a broken speech pattern but also (just a lil bit) smart and traitorous as well
9. Yuan Shao - I prefer his pre DW6 persona, tbh. Not a big fan of his current persona as it suits Yuan Shu more
10. Xu Shu - unfortunately his low self-esteem and confidence makes him regretful of not being able to unleash his full potential. That's it

10. That’s fair. I do wish they do more with his relationship with Cao Cao, and actually make him feel like a threat. He has the largest army at that time after all.
9. Yeah he complains a lot about being noticed, but his ending in DW9 did him justice. Plus, I did like his relationship with Cheng Pu. He showed a more softer side when Cheng Pu scolded the youth. Han Dang was actually the only one to believe the new generation.
8. Can’t disagree. Her personality sucks. She’s just there for Guan Suo and they don’t do anything with their relationship. It almost feels like Guan Suo friendzones her all the time. Can’t lie though, Spinner is totally broken in DW8.
7. But you’re supposed to hate him. He is basically an evil tyrant villain.
6. Yes! Can we talk about how crappy Shu adds are? The fact they just keep adding anyone relating to Guan Yu and Zhang Fei is so annoying and unnecessary (Zhou Cang included). Like we get it. Can we make other more important characters?
5. I’m gonna say it again, but almost all of the characters are horrible real life people that did disgusting things. If Zhang Fei is here then I think others like Cao Pi are also guilty.
4. I think that’s the point. Jiang Wei is like an annoying pest that you can never get rid of, always escaping at the last second. About the benevolence thing, he’s not the only one. Almost every Shu scene a character will say that word in the modern games. It’s bad because Wei never said ambition that much.
3. I like him, but his speech thing does ruin his character. Because of it, he doesn’t get much relationship with other characters like Zhuge Liang. I think he does need a change.

1. This was quite a shocker, but I do see it. She suffers the same issues as Bao Sanniang. Her childish personality can be too much, and she has 0 chemistry with Zhou Yu. If they fix that, she’ll be as good as her sister. As for the awkward age thing, I might be wrong but I thought Zhou Yu, Sun Ce, and the Qiaos were all teens when married.
True some good points, if they're gonna put xiahouji in it make it make sense and appropriate, Cao Pi and Zhenji look appropriate together
People hating Xu Zhu genuinely feels like the decision is made with shallowness in mind... He does not deserve to be as hated as he is. Hate a character for their personality and place in history/story, not for the design... He's had so many wonderful moments and is a great character. I love him and Dian Wei a lot.

Wei Yan and Xu Zhu absolutely need redesigns. They are bad caricatures of vague traits Koei over-embellished, which undermines the importance they played for their respective kingdoms.
100% its fine to have the traits but just change em up, with the new game announcement and a chance at a soft reboot, that looks good

Nice video thanks man! For me I always liked Zhangfei historically and in the game. Historically he was a way more reliable fighter and leader than Guanyu (think about it), in the game he’s basically a funnier Lubu.

Jiang Wei was my fav in 3,4,5 and I was so mad he wasnt in 6 and when he came back in 7 not only was he annoying but his move set was terrible and it just felt bad to play as him.

For me, a lot of characters were ruined after the release of DW6.
Some of these really surprised me, as I have always liked Wei Yan for example. Others like Liu Bei and Yuan Shao, I liked until DW5 but their changes were far too stark after.
My top 5 hated, in no particular order
1. Pang Tong (he has a purpose in the story but not a playable character I ever have any interest in using)
2. Dong Zhuo (I liked him as a character until dw6 then he was simply ruined to me)
3. Zhang Jiao (his preaching was always quite grating, but I get that’s his angle)
4. Yuan Shu (I didn’t like how over the top ‘sneaky villain’ they made him out to be. If it had toned down, he’d have been more palatable)
5. Liu Bei, his son too (I used to love him from Dw3-5, but from 6 onwards he just seemed too young and too cartoonish for my liking. Maybe I’m not putting it well)
I haven’t had much interaction since DW6 so am not so familiar with the newer characters that people seem to hate on

honestly, i do main xiao qiao but she does do a little too much when it comes to asking for praise/pats from zhou yu, other than that she deserves a little more persona
the only character i personally dislike is probably zhu ran, just because he did one fire attack at yi ling and practically made it his whole personality….hes not a bad character but when he makes everything about “fire” or something relating to it. got kinda repetitive
