Remember playing DW4 with my bro in the basement. Tried to get through entire story on hardest difficulty but were stuck on the jungle level for hours and hours. When you played on super hard mode, your team gets like 2 squads of soldiers and pits you against entire army.
The Nanman campaign was brutal in 4. Endless reinforcements, ally morale dropping every 3 minutes or something…and the poison marsh/elephant combo taking down your commander 😭
I knew I stumbled upon your videos for a reason. Dynasty Warriors 3 is my favorite, the music, the stages the mostly realistic but cool movesets etc. Perfect Dynasty Warriors to me! 🔥
I started with DW3 too and it’s one of my favorites. Felt bad when my bodyguards would die. You actually had moments where it was better to sneak around using archery. The gameplay was challenging but you could progress with some effort. It was fun but not mindless
Yeah bodyguards were useless in vanilla but became amazing in XL. Probably my favorite bodyguards are in 3XL followed by DW4s. DW2 bodyguards were just broke lmfao
Not everything about it was bad. It got so much extra hate because of a few horrendous changes and the fact it was pretty unfinished. It honestly could’ve been fixed but they went a whole other way with 7 that’s pretty meh to me.
The context you gotta understand though is 6 was coming off of 3,4, and 5. So the expectations and fan base was completely different at the time. It felt like a DRASTIC change at the time with less content than the ps2 games. And then, to make it worse, Koei released a PS2 version with MORE content that never came to PS3. Bad stuff that never happened before with warriors games at the time. So yeah, that’s why it’s so hated. I mean; we just got DW5 that had individual story modes and cutscenes with no clones and then you get DW6 which cut characters, changed the whole combat system, and only had story modes and cutscenes for a select few characters? People were furious
Great video! I bought DW3 when I was younger without knowing what it was and got super hooked on it. Great times playing on the hardest difficulty with the overpowered archers doing big damage to my Health. Great series with some up and downs but DW3 is the one that really sticks with me.
I never got how some DW3 fans dislike DW4. To me, DW4 is just DW3XL with quality of life improvements. The most dramatic change being the weapon system which I can see some people not liking. Other than that, they’re so close imo lol. The darker aesthetic of 4 is another thing but eh, it’s also quite a good looking game imo still.
Putting DW3 in 1st place is such an act of respect and love to the entire franchise. I believe the majority of the player base started with DW3 and kept playing the games onward. Taking the "nostalgia" factor aside, DW3 is such a fun game, very well designed, it has some of the best map designs, lots of original playable characters. Gameplay and combat feels and looks amazing, animations and effects for the game (when you're slashing through hordes of enemies with True Musou attacks it just looks amazing and it actually makes you feel powerful), the aesthetics of the game are great. The amount of items and weapons you can get, customizing your build and bodyguards, grinding your characters stats, the game has all the content you need. Many of the battles and voicelines are memorable. It has the "Do not pursue Lu Bu" line for the first time which is now a popular meme. The music is amazing, it has some of the best songs in the entire series. The game was made in 2001 and it doesn't feel outdated, at least for me, it has a lot of replayability. You can tell DW3 was made with love and it was a stepping stone for the future titles of the franchise. It's definitely THE game worth of the 1st place. 🏆
DW3 was the obvious and correct choice. Its still a challenge , attacks have meat , bodyguards , cut scenes , characters , replayability. It was the peak.
DW6 was the first DW game that I played (though Warriors Orochi was intro to the series), so I have a soft spot for it. The cloned movesets are lame, and some of the designs are kind of weird, but it's fun to play and it really brought the series into a new age. It also, weirdly, looks better than DW7 imo. Granted, I think DW8 is the most *complete* DW, and I wish Koei would've continued with that iteration, rather than what they did with DW9.
In terms of sheer content, character number, movesets, story, cutscenes as a full package, yes, I agree 8 is the most complete. However, I still think the PS2 trio of 3,4, and 5 were better games overall. Certainly hope DW10 digs deep and captures the magic again. I personally feel like DW3 should be used as the benchmark for a great DW game. It should strive to do everything better than 3XL. And imo, the game to come the closest to that is DW4
This is the most unusual list I’ve seen so far, and I’m fully agree with it except for one thing, I would switch DW5 and DW3. DW5 is still remains the best Warriors game for me, nothing comes close. And I also like DW6. It has its flaws, but I think it’s the most unique Warriors game (in a good way, unlike DW9) and very enjoyable to play. Also, it’s good to see at least someone didn’t put DW4 in 1st place. I think it’s the majority’s most favorite game, but I don’t see why, maybe it’s just a nostalgia. I tried to get in to it but it’s just doesn’t work for me, I can’t put it in words. For me DW5 is better in almost every aspect. Anyway great video as always!
DW4 is 100% the most popular game if its not its DW8, so I knew this vid might cause some stir. But all the comments so far have been pretty chill🔥 I appreciate the kind words!
I can tell you why for me. I love DW3XL (My 1b), and to me, 4 feels like it but with quality of life improvements (like picking up items on horse and not having to stop to get off and etc). Sure, there’s stage design, brightness/aesthetics, and the weapon system that are pretty different. But overall, mechanically and structurally, 4 is so much like 3XL just with better graphics, more characters, and qol improvements. Def my two favorite games bar none. Imo, DW5 while still a good game itself has some of the markings of what I feel has gone wrong in the series. The focus shifting to 1 vs 1,000 vs army vs army, peons actually becoming complete fodder, and officer ai becoming horrendous. Basically, the challenge and battlefield immersion/simulation aspects started to take a hit. To me, something in its core is missing that 3 and 4 had. That’s why it’s my least favorite of the best 3. Welp, just my perspective
Also, Idk why the went the way they did with elements in DW5. Why did they get rid of lightning element from DW4? Ice element is super op in 5 and especially XL and the only element that’s really worth using alternatively is light for some characters. Strange decision. Btw I have 100%ed all 3 games (maxed all characters, essentially all items, outfits (like edit ones in 5XL), and got all weapons 1-5 in 3 and 4 and 1-4 in 5). So I’ve given each their fair due lol.
Dynasty warriors 3 really is god tier im replaying it on an emulator and it feels like it has aged the best and has just the right difficulty with very satisfying combat
High key for real though, if they made a remake or remaster of Dynasty warriors 3 I would absolutely be able to live off of that one game I wouldn't need anymore from them if a release for 3 saw the light of day, so I can't help but agree with your number 1 choice there for all of the reasons you said and more.
Great video again bro! Love hearing other people's thoughts. DW4 is my favourite game still. And I've never played 3 or 6 so after watching this I really wanna find and play them somehow XD. Unfortunately, my country doesn't really give me easy access to any older games unless I have a house to mortgage or something LOL. So I totally agree they should remaster all the old games. That would be absolutely amazing. Let's hope for an amazing game in DW10 as well. 🔥🔥 Also the TH-cam algorithm pushed me away from your channel for a while there and I only just realised that, now I gotta go back and watch the videos I missed haha.
I respect your love for the franchise. The love and nostalgia you have for DW3 is what I have for DW5. It was the first game of the franchise I ever played, and the amount of hours I put into it to try and find all the cutscenes and character interactions is countless. As a kid, after a hard day at school, I'd fire it up and release all my stress at the Yellow Turban Rebellion on hard mode with either of my two favorite characters, Zhou Yu or Cao Pi just to rampage through thousands of soldiers and be dubbed "A true warrior of the three kingdoms". My love for it made me pick up DW7 for my PS3 since the designs in 6 and Strikeforce really didn't appeal to me, while 7 seemed to be a natural blend of 6 and 5. But I haven't picked up a DW game since and started looking at videos on youtube to grasp the changes since then. So, I appreciate you doing these videos.
4 was my introduction to this franchise and I love a lot of the mechanics from it. Equipping items, being able to charge up your musou gauge, double musou attack when fighting alongside another character, having a 1v1 duel against enemy officers! I remember playing every time I played the campaign against the Nanzhong I would have to fight an officer then run back to my stage leader and defend him from hoards of enemies! It frustrated me when I was younger, but looking back on it now I actually kinda like it. Also, the hidden items and weapons in each stage made them extremely replayable. Here's my personal list: 6 (I played a little bit of it and remember not liking it a whole lot but I haven't touched it in years so I'm putting it at the bottom of my list), 9 (I find this game to be a guilty pleasure. If I could stream 8 proper then I wouldn't have this game at all, but for what it is I find some enjoyment in it), 7 (haven't played this one in a bit, but I do still have a copy. I didn't care for the conquest mode as the battles were too short, but I seem to remember liking the main campaign missions and it's the game that introduced me to the Jin Kingdom), 4 (I have massive nostalgia for this one since it was my first and the one my brother and I played all the time. Sure it's rough around the edges and some stuff doesn't hold up but I still love it), and 8 (Specifically Xtreme Legends Complete Edition. It's the one I've sunk the most hours into and the one whose save data I keep deleting so I can start over from scratch. I love the hypothetical routes for the main four kingdoms PLUS Lu Bu! I'd say my only gripe against the game is enemies block SO DAMN OFTEN! I personally think it's dumb that they can block your musou or rage attacks)
Great video, Nightowl. I mostly agree with your rankings. 5 and 6 are my favorites, with 8, 3, and 7 close behind. My top five. 3 being one of your top picks was something I was expecting. A lot of devoted and knowledgeable fans of the series share it as a favorite, from what I've seen. Imo, despite not being my #1, DW3 gives you the biggest hype, and feeling of accomplishment when you beat a stage. Some of those opponents were SO HARD. It also has great game mechanics, stage design and music. Despite being a bit dated visually, it's still vibrant in color and attractive. I'm also a huge fan of the Empires expansions, and I think 5E is my favorite in those as well. 8E is fun because of the customization and having like 1000 of your own officers and creating your own scenarios. It's very cool and being able to at least slightly customize your own units, banners, etc. is great for roleplaying and aesthetics. Inserting your own creations or even yourself in the universe and existing stories of DW is an epic thing. What do you think of Empires?
I think empires is awesome, I played all of em except 4 n 7, and yeah they need to revamp destiny mode for a more RPG experience where your decsions decide which kingdom you serve, who you befriend, just a really in depth version of it would be amazing
DW2 has a special place in my heart, had such a blast in my childhood playing it. Killing Lu Bu with the crossbow and patiently so he wouldnt fall over and heal is a peak memory😅
Haha indeed they were! So far all the comments have been chill though, even though we all have our opinions in the end we all love the game and respect each others choice, love that
Glad I found this channel. My first DW game was 3 so it’s my favorite. I haven’t tracked the series for years and just watched an announcement trailer for a new title called Origins. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I completely agree with you DW6 is my second favourite games as well and DW3 is my all time favourite game as well, and I agree with everything you said about them. And DW7 is my 3rd favourite game as well.
I remember playing a Dynasty Warriors 3 demo once when I stayed at a buddies house and that was it for me. I fell in love with the series right there. Ended up getting 3 and playing the hell out of it untill 4 came out and I got it. Then 4 easily became my favorite. I also got the Samurai Warriors games and loved them too. Ended up getting 5 as an adult and I'd play split screen with my wife all the time. We maxed out all characters to 50 together and it was awesome. One of my favorite series of all time. I loved it growing up and couldn't get enough of it.
DW2 is definitely in my top 3 and maybe even top. It’s the game that started it all and unlike the later games, battles really felt like real war. Enemies fight and beating it is fulfilling.
Damn, good video! Remeberd playing DW3 back when I was a kid on the ps2, played every hero and got all items and the special weapens etc. Also the DW6 I played on the ps3 when i finaly got It, loved that game tbh. Felt so real with the new graphics and style of the game!
bruh making DW4 second from last hurt me so bad, but i just got my steamdeck and im gonna be playing DW4 5 and 5XL again, but i might try out 3 because i started playing with DW4. great video though i'll def try and check out whatever other videos you have on the DW series
My first DW is also 3, way back in 2002. But for some reason DW4 is the most memorable one for me. As someone who grew up in the part the world where literally everyone knows about the Three Kingdoms period, has read the novel and watched the TV show... DW4 just feels the most authentic to me.
I started with DW2 myself, but I completely understand why DW3 is your #1. I played 2 a bit, but I fell off with it (at least completed the game with Shu). Then DW3 came into the picture. I put SO MUCH time into it. It's definitely a classic, and something any DW fan should play bar none. Good video brother.
DW3 is iconic, i always crave playing it again when i have random voice lines enter my head 😂 Me: shopping for groceries My mind: WAOW Its like a RI-VERR Me: Eating dinner My mind: Front lines, RETAKE THE MIDDLE! 🗣️🗣️ Me: Dropping kids at school My Mind: HUMBLE THE REBELS! 🗣️💯🗣️💯
Great to see the love for DW3. Such a massive upgrade from #2 with the weapons, items, levels, characters, bgm plus the enemies were still really tough *cough cough crossbowmen* and the bad voice acting just added to its charm. Battle of he fei castle on the wei side or wu zhang plains on the wei side were my fav hardest battles with both quality bgm ^^
Forreal. DW3 all things considered is just a miracle game imo that truly stands as the benchmark for the series. It’s my favorite along with DW4 and they are firmly above the rest.
Its crazy I have that same exact list as you. 3 was my first one so it has a special place for me. And 6 was really fun I spent many hours playing it with my brother growing up. I hope they come out with dw10 and they make it better I've been waiting for a good current DW.
As a fellow Dynasty Warriors fan, I have nothing but respect for people’s personal opinions. We all have different experiences. Really like how you separated your personal view from how objectively good some of the games were. I LOVE 3-5 and 8 myself. I enjoyed 6 and 7 for trying new things. I couldn’t get into 9 to save my life though. I’m a sucker for the Samurai Warriors franchise too
Awesome video, bit of a controversial take on DW6 with renbu lol but nice to see the humble opinion though. All in all rest of the picks are good takes. DW3 reigns supreme. Thank you, earned a sub.
Me: this is my favorite game DW3 play with me friend friend: sure thing me: gives tips friend: ~holds up hand~ i know how to play a dw game (dw6 player) me: ok fair friend, dies, dies, refuses to let me switch it from normal to easy, died friend: I dont wanna play anymore
@@TheNightowlGaming they generic troops just were more aggressive and did more damage. Can’t run through them straight to the officer on an unleveled character with no mount
Dw3 was my first game on ps2 and is one of my fav games of all time! Happy to see its held up not just cause of my nostalgia for it but because of its gameplay mechanics being addicting
Definitely some interesting takes here. I feel the same way about DW4 that you do for DW3. 4 was my first game of the series and it's still my favorite to this day. I never played DW3 though and I wish that I did. But I totally get that you didn't enjoy DW4 as much. The game can be brutally challenging which is one of the things I love most about it. It doesn't hold your hand as much as the newer ones do.
For sure! and thats ok, dw4 has always been one to have a good time in, idk it just always fell short, but maybe thats cause i had such a limited time with it as a kid
Thanks for your vid bro I finally found someone that loves dw6 as much as me cause of the nostalgia and how unique it is. I no life’d that game back in middle school 😂
Respect for the unpopular opinion on DW6. I also loved that game and put an unhealthy amount of hours into it. But I have to come at you for disrespecting DW4. In your soul you know you wanna play DW4 more than DW9.
Lol perhaps, but I didnt enjoy it as much when I went thru it for the analysis series, it was quite a drag, idk why I just didnt enjoy my time,, maybe cause it doesnt have that nostalgic feel to me and its kind of dated
I was like 6 years old and became good friends with someone that lived across the road from me as my mum at the time was good friends with his mum. He introduced me to Dynasty Warriors 3 as it was his favourite game, this new mate of mine was like 4 years older then me so he was 10 but we both still got along heaps well as mates as he finally had someone to play 2 player on Dynasty Warriors 3 with. Ever since then this franchise has been my all time favorite hack and slash title. I'm 28 now and still since playing all these Dynasty Warriors games even the Samurai and Orochi series. Dynasty Warriors 3 would still have to be my most favored game too the point it's the only Dynasty Warriors game where I cleared everyone's musos, Leveled up every characters Attack, Defense, Muso and health too max, was the only game I obtained every single item even the rare ones and was the only Dynasty Warriors game where I unlocked every single characters 4th weapons. (All done completely only just last year 2023)
I remember replaying DW6 and 6Empires, one or two years back and being surprised by how much I enjoyed it, I would say DW6 brought in a lot of great elements, some of which were not to be seen again. Grapple attacks, (from the guard stance, timed parries, an actual reward for filling the bar when your character is clashing against an enemy. The circular duels, the special skills like true speed. Running charge attacks. The renbu system itself was not the funnest base combat, but if you had the charge system, and then everything else on top of that or even a blend of charge/renbu, it would probably be the best combat ever.
Yeah I didnt about the little quality of life pieces of the fighting system that DW6 had that made it more enjoyable, but 100% they made the game better
I really agree with this. But other problems that made the game hated were lack of stories for every character, cut characters, and clones. However, I def agree with what you say just that DW6 is also hated for more than that especially when it came off of 3,4, and 5 sadly.
FINALLY someone who doesn't hate DW6. I grew up playing Dynasty Warriors games starting from 3 but I skipped 9 because I was not sold on their approach with the open world, gameplay and the voice acting for most of the casts. If we include all the Xtreme Legends and Empire games I would easily place DW6 in my top 5. 5 was my favorite last DW game on the PS2 era and 6 took it to the next level for me. I remember I was in awe with the drastic improvement with the graphics from PS2 to PS3 with 6 and the gameplay was just as fun if not better than 5 and I really love the story of 6 and it's what if scenarios. 7 was the game where the series starts to go downhill for me because it felt like they were starting to cut corners and the gameplay just doesn't feel right for me, still I enjoyed it for what it is. 8 (including Xtreme Legends) is by far one of the best modern DW game but I still would prefer if they went back to the gameplay of 6. Having the ability to switch weapons is nice and all but it doesn't feel unique to the characters without their signature weapon, characters felt like clones of each other with the same move sets. I would rather have them stick to their original weapons with move sets that are unique to them. I'm excited for DW Origins but I really hope we get multiplayer modes including PvP where players tries to control an army and take over territories from each other if we're only going have access to our CaW character.
I agree with a lot that you gotta say for DW6 and maybe I’m a bit biased cuz it was my entry to the series even then I still found it’s story really up there out of all the ones I played, I really liked its designs, and it’s OST is so good and nostalgic 😎. This is a rambly comment too but yeah, as much as a departure as 6 was its story, designs, and OST all hold a special place in my heart
I started with dw3 as well as that has definitely always been my favorite! Dw4 should be right under that though!! That’s where we bump heads lol. I love the video!
great video bro! can tell that you really love this game! 🔥👍 i disagree with the list but its all good! 😄 i started with DW2 and have been a fan ever since, my most nostalgic and favourite one is DW4 but i still think DW8 XL beats it today since they have come a long way in the mechanics. my list would be from worst to best: DW 6 (i really had a hard time with the renbu system and some of the changes to some characters + the copy, paste with moves.. Where is Lu Bu's halberd... xD), DW 9 was sadly a swing and a miss for me, to much copy, paste on characters and the world is so lifeless.., DW 2 even though its my first game of this series and i loved it when i first got it but, it just lacks alot of the story and mechanics of the later ones., DW3 since i didnt play it as much since i jumped right into DW 4 before i got DW 3 even though i did enjoy DW 3 it still felt alot more sluggish than 4 at the time, DW 7 is a really story driven game and i love it!, DW 5 is just awesome aswell and you are able to turn while you swing??!, DW 4 mostly nostalgic reasons and i think the characters and stages look so good and making bodyguards and Custom characters was fun, DW 8 even though its easy i do not really play DW for its difficulty mostly just for a good pass time and its fast pace, with good story, looks awesome, big roster to choose from, good moveset, and flows like a charm.
Thats okay! I appreciate the comment and kind words 😁 everything about the game will vary and be subjective from person to person, but the one thing I think everyone can agree on is we love the franchise and that's why I make the vids for people like us 🔥😁
When DW4 came out my cousin bought it and would occasionally let me play on his ps2 but when i got my own ps2 i bought DW4 empires which was my first DW game. My first main DW game was DW5 and man i was happy when i got it. Than my first PS3 game was DW6 and when DW7 came out i saved my money just to buy it. Good times
I like this tier list being honest I appreciate that this list says "I admit that this game (9) is objetively worse than 4, but I can't lie, I enjoyed 9 more". Its good to see that the list is just saying honestly one's opinion instead of trying to please an audience
@@TheNightowlGaming Again, it feels very good to watch. Anyone who is a decent person will understand that these videos must be personal opinion, and in that regard I apreciate that you went ahead and gave precisely what's advertised: >"hi, I played all these games and these is how much I liked them" I hate when youtubers do the loathesome thing of trying to predict what people want to hear. I personally find it bad to watch a video about the thoughs of someone only to want to hear them reinforcing my own opinion stay healthy, my man
Found out about Dynasty warriors on a demo disc from a Playstation Underrground Magazine fell in love and bought it. Then ended up getting the sequel Dynasty Warriors 4 and it was everything and more
My favorite game is either 7 or 8xl imo got some of the best world building and character progression. You feel their emotions so much more than earlier adaptations. of course my opinion.
Dynasty Warriors 3 and 3 extreme legends were my first foray into the series and takes my #2 spot, but hands down Dynasty Warriors 5 and 5 Empires were my absolute favorite and the ones i spent the most time with. It was also the first time i ever maxed out the kill counter in the game at the battle of the yellow turbans, which i always thought was pretty funny.
My favorite, even though not a mainline, was DW 5 Empires for Xbox 360. It was the best Empires game and the 360 version had massively improved graphics over the PS2 version of DW 5. Still my go to game, also I love the ability to create your own army from the Empires games as far as pure gameplay
@@TheNightowlGaming I don’t know what it was about this generation of games (my other favorite was SW 2 Empires that came out around the same time). I think they had the best art design and graphics were perfect. With the newer games they started making the character designs look super weird and cartoony. So this was my last of my favorite generations of DW games even though I still played up to 8
dynasty warriors 3 is my favorite as well. It was great having the body guards. It was also good because the AI wasn't so easy to cut down and you needed to use your allies a lot more then in the later games.
Although DW6 didn't stick to the historical events, didn't have all the characters, and the renbu system was not the best. We cannot forget that it was a unique upgrade in alot of other terms. The character design, the costumes, the cut scenes are 10 times better than DW9, also the voice acting was elite. even the graphics were awesome. We cannot ignore the fire sound tracks it has. I still listen to them till this day
DW3 is my favorite. It has good moral system, hits have weight, soldiers are there to defeat you and actually can defeat you instead of standing in front of you just to defeat them and get high K.O count.
I've only played Dynasty Warriors 2, 3, and 4 as a kid and I loved them all but then I fell off after that. My interest in the series has been renewed after seeing the gameplay for Dynasty Warriors Origins so it's cool to hear opinions on the other games I haven't played. I'm hoping to at least play 5, and 8XL before Origins comes out. Maybe 6, and 7 as well if I have time.
@@TheNightowlGaming It's been so long since I played 2-4 (over 20 years for me at this point haha) that I don't really have any biases towards them so I can see myself enjoying the PS3-PS4 generation games for what they are as well, who knows. Definitely gonna play DW5 before Origins though.
DW4 Empires was my childhood. It was my own tradition to play it every Christmas stsying up all night playing the empire mode with different characters lol good times. Ik this is about DW not the empires series but i played empires the most so😂
DW3 was My first. After getting all characters and weapons, I would used Gan Ning to farm items...took forever. Only playing as him. He was my favorite. Played everyday after school until 3am. Got up at 6am and went to school. I was obsessed haha I even took the booklet to school everyday and read it over and over in study hall lol did this for 3 years. Did you know that Zhang Jiao's last weapon is actually the strongest in the game in terms of Attack? Even beats LuBu's sky Scorcher.
Is it? I did a strongest weapons of all time based on the base level of all weapons and I dont remember if it was on it, must be the element that makes it OP or the flamethrower move lol respect the dedication!
Three was my first DW game. I remember playing a demo at target or maybe Walmart. I didn’t even know at the time that it had any basis in history 😂. It was just cool that you had all the guys on screen to fight. I remember it was the level where you fight the guy on the elephant with the big metal fists I think. You had to beat him several times in the level.
I 💯 agree on the 1st pick. Especially xtreme legends for that trick where if you equip that one special item that gave you double damage attack after a fall, you quit and save the game, load back to that position and the double attack status becomes permanent. But then ofcourse your defense is lowered too 😅! But with a maxed character it does not matter especially Gan Ning 💀
As a person who started with 2 back when I got a PS2 for Christmas as a teenager and have played all the main ones (save for 9) since through the years I'd say... 1. 3 2. 5 3. 4 4. 8 5. 6 7. 7 8. 2 Put thousands of hours in the games and 3, 4, and 5 are my favorites by far, 8 came pretty damn close though but 6 and 7 were meh, and 2 aged badly and is a worse version of 3. 3 truly has stood the test of time though, considering getting a new PS2 to play my copies again but a used PS2 goes for $200 where I live and my last one only lasted 4 months before it died. Tried emulation but it's just not the same. Pretty much stuck playing 8/xl on PC these days but damn do I miss the classics. Hu Lao gate, Chi Bi, Wu Zhang Plains, Fan castle, He Fei, etc are such damn good maps and the grinding aspect kept you playing and mastering the characters/maps as you went up the difficulty modes. The newer games just lack the same feeling as you pretty much run around wiping enemies out like nothing and getting 1000+ kills is stupid easy by comparison to 3, 4, and 5. I wish they'd just release a collection of 2-5 on Steam that actually works on PC without emulation. I've had horrible luck with consoles and have went through half a dozen PS2's in my life and am just done with them. Tried getting 4 Hyper to work on my PC, did compatibility modes, changed settings, and everything I've scrounged up on Google and nothing works as the game won't even load on Windows 10.
I was given Dynasty Warriors 3 for Christmas by my sister's boyfriend at the time. He had gotten 4 at some point and gave me 3, I really enjoyed everything about it and I went on to get 5, 6, 4, 2, 7, had to skip 8 in terms of mainline games, though I got XLCE, and 9 for like 10 bucks. As for my rankings, it'd be 9. Reason being the English Cast Change, cloning, too easy(Lu Bu is defeatable in the first go), and they don't even tell you how to do EX Attacks if they're in the game. 6. Reason being the Rainbu System and them removing characters. 2. Reason being it was not possible for me to go around Lu Bu so I never got passed Hu Lao Gate. 4. It was fun but I prefer the other ways the story was told. 7. No Free Mode, though Conquest Mode was fun and they did the death scenes to perfection. 3. Fun and no complaints about it. 5. Love the story development and hints.
Bro I'm obsessed too, you heard of 'romance of the three kingdoms podcast'? Guy does a great job telling the actual story tanslated it's awesome to hear all the extra stories in between and the way he introduces new characters is awesome always has you guessing who it is 👍
My top 5: 5- Dynasty Warriors- I know its completely different from the later games but it was my introduction into this franchise when i was a kid. Its still really fun for me as i also grew up playing fighting games like soul caliber and MK. 4- Dynasty Warriors 5- havent played the maingame but i have played 5 empires and the movesets are great, battles are faster and its just a fun game. 3- dynasty warriors 3- love this game I remember how hard it was which made it challenging but battles are slower compared to my top 2. 2- Dynasty warriors 4- Another really challenging game but everything from designs to movesets and story mode make it a blast to play. 1- Dynasty warriors 8- asked my dad for it when i was 12. Love the movesets,, the musous, the maps, the story, designs and especially the musou rage. I know its easier compared to 3, 4, and 5 but it was fast paced action that truly makes you feel like a one man army.
@@TheNightowlGaming it felt like a total war game more enemies sieges you had to break down base doors and kill enemies to capture bases set up rams laddies catapults take down ballista and watchpost to stop them firing down on you such a grand scale that we don’t see anymore
Remember playing DW4 with my bro in the basement. Tried to get through entire story on hardest difficulty but were stuck on the jungle level for hours and hours. When you played on super hard mode, your team gets like 2 squads of soldiers and pits you against entire army.
Jeeeez that does sound like a challenge
Fighting the nanan or whatever whos boss is meng ho was a bitch. Arguably hardest level In the game
Exactly
The Nanman campaign was brutal in 4. Endless reinforcements, ally morale dropping every 3 minutes or something…and the poison marsh/elephant combo taking down your commander 😭
OMG that level lol
I knew I stumbled upon your videos for a reason. Dynasty Warriors 3 is my favorite, the music, the stages the mostly realistic but cool movesets etc. Perfect Dynasty Warriors to me! 🔥
Ayeeeee lets gooo!
So nice to see others that appreciate dynasty warriors 6, been my favourite game in the series since it came out🙌
lets go! Welcome to the minority!
No no. Low level bodyguards were useless. 8 maxed out guards were were some monsters
PS2 graphics Are trash And gameplay too
I also started at 3 but 5 was the one that made me a loyal disciple. 7 made me a fanatic. 9 made me a hopeless apostate.
I miss DW3, I played that game for years and wont forget the fun I had on it during my childhood.
so fun
Same
Dude. It is so nice and rare to see dw6 receive some love.
It really is! And I know it gets alot of hate but it was a fun game for me
👍🏼
DW2 is the Goat! It was the very first DW game and my very first PS2 GAME EVER!. I love this one. It's a classic masterpiece
Nice! Not too many DW2 fans, love to see it!
DW 3 was my first DW game and I really enjoyed playing 6 also. Cool list. appreciate the honesty.
Glad You liked it! definitely risky with my opinions lol
I spent so much time playing dw6 as well. The ost, the personalisation of the stories, the aesthetic and pace was really engaging
Yep! Welcome to the minority!
Great video!
I bought DW3 when I was younger without knowing what it was and got super hooked on it. Great times playing on the hardest difficulty with the overpowered archers doing big damage to my Health.
Great series with some up and downs but DW3 is the one that really sticks with me.
DW3 is goated forever. My forever and I really hope they remaster it
I never got how some DW3 fans dislike DW4.
100% glad you agree!
DW3 was the obvious and correct choice. Its still a challenge , attacks have meat , bodyguards , cut scenes , characters , replayability. It was the peak.
So freaking good
DW3 was my first as well amazing game, great list man
Appreciate the kind words! 🙏
100% DW10 gonna be a banger though, I can feel it
In terms of sheer content, character number, movesets, story, cutscenes as a full package, yes, I agree 8 is the most complete.
So wich dw is best at the moment? 8???
@@josefernandez1364 Depends some like 3,4,5 and some like newer ones 7,8.
I saw someone with DW9 and 6 as their S and 3, 4 and 5 at the lower tiers, so I think this is a very normal list.
Wow 3 4 and 5!? thats insane!
Right!! Its one of the few I never get tired of, mainly from nostalgia but still my fave and I hope they remaster them at some point
High key for real though, if they made a remake or remaster of Dynasty warriors 3 I would absolutely be able to live off of that one game I wouldn't need anymore from them if a release for 3 saw the light of day, so I can't help but agree with your number 1 choice there for all of the reasons you said and more.
1000% Like I'd be so in to play
Great video again bro! Love hearing other people's thoughts. DW4 is my favourite game still. And I've never played 3 or 6 so after watching this I really wanna find and play them somehow XD. Unfortunately, my country doesn't really give me easy access to any older games unless I have a house to mortgage or something LOL. So I totally agree they should remaster all the old games. That would be absolutely amazing. Let's hope for an amazing game in DW10 as well. 🔥🔥
Also the TH-cam algorithm pushed me away from your channel for a while there and I only just realised that, now I gotta go back and watch the videos I missed haha.
Hahah nice! Thats unfortunate you're unable to get certain games and thats interesting the algorithm did that, enjoy the other vids!!
For me, if you love 4 like I do, you’ll adore DW3 and 3XL. It’s amazing. My top two DW games hands down.
I personally think it's dumb that they can block your musou or rage attacks)
haha thats awesome and thats totally fine! Love the love shown for the games and not just hating for my opinions, I respect that 8xl is a great game
@@TheNightowlGaming wholeheartedly agree
DW2 has a special place in my heart, had such a blast in my childhood playing it. Killing Lu Bu with the crossbow and patiently so he wouldnt fall over and heal is a peak memory😅
Lol good times!
These takes were volcanicly hot lol. Though I also played a LOT of DW6. DW3 was also my first game. I respect the choices
Absolutely, glad you enjoyed it! hopefully the new game brings us all back
You stuck to your guns, that's admirable. Good video, man!
came at a cost, but gotta stay true, appreciate it!
I completely agree with you DW6 is my second favourite games as well and DW3 is my all time favourite game as well, and I agree with everything you said about them.
And DW7 is my 3rd favourite game as well.
Nice! Nice to know im not alone!
Enemies fight and beating it is fulfilling.
for sure dw2 is underrated
Damn, good video! Remeberd playing DW3 back when I was a kid on the ps2, played every hero and got all items and the special weapens etc. Also the DW6 I played on the ps3 when i finaly got It, loved that game tbh. Felt so real with the new graphics and style of the game!
Yep! Love those games !
Finally Dynasty warriors 6 Gets some love!!!
Just Subscribed!
Ayeee appreciate it! I've been getting alot of comments about people liking DW6, nice to know I aint the only one haha
@@TheNightowlGamingi wanna play a dw game but idk wich one is best so far plz help
bruh making DW4 second from last hurt me so bad, but i just got my steamdeck and im gonna be playing DW4 5 and 5XL again, but i might try out 3 because i started playing with DW4. great video though i'll def try and check out whatever other videos you have on the DW series
Yeah I know, Im gonna get a lot of flak for it, but Im okay with that! I appreciate it!
How would you play DW5 XL on the steam deck? I’ve played the crap out of 5 but not sure how the change disc thing would work on an emulator for 5XL
My first DW is also 3, way back in 2002. But for some reason DW4 is the most memorable one for me. As someone who grew up in the part the world where literally everyone knows about the Three Kingdoms period, has read the novel and watched the TV show... DW4 just feels the most authentic to me.
thats awesome and there's nothing wrong w that!
I played so much DYNASTY WARRIORS 5, i grew up playing that game, it's sooo good.
so good!
Good video brother.
nice! Appreciate the kind words 🙏

Formal? their regular?
Or you mean informal?
Thats a good one, I got the top looks for each game written down, ill write this one too

100% will remain as my favorite for a while, so much fun and I'd still play it to this day
Dw3 definitely my favorite i also liked there bodyguard system better then the newer ones
Im sure theyll make it much better, itll be exciting to see what they do
As a fellow Dynasty Warriors fan, I have nothing but respect for people’s personal opinions. We all have different experiences. Really like how you separated your personal view from how objectively good some of the games were.
I LOVE 3-5 and 8 myself. I enjoyed 6 and 7 for trying new things. I couldn’t get into 9 to save my life though.
I’m a sucker for the Samurai Warriors franchise too
I appreciate this! Yeah definitely a subjective personal list vs objectively, I might do an objective one at some point
Awesome video, bit of a controversial take on DW6 with renbu lol but nice to see the humble opinion though. All in all rest of the picks are good takes. DW3 reigns supreme. Thank you, earned a sub.
Appreciate the kind words very much! 🙏

My first and forever favorite 💓
Started dw3 demo version and was hooked from the start. The rest is history now. Love your vids
Lets go! Appreciate it very much!
Feel the power of my maaaaaagiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiic!!!!!!!!!

Haha nice, glad you enjoyed it!
I think my favorite is 5 Empires lol. I started with 3 and played everything in the series up to Dynasty Warriors 7.
Great video!
5e is a great one, glad u enjoyed it!
(All done completely only just last year 2023)
Awesome origin story
However, I def agree with what you say just that DW6 is also hated for more than that especially when it came off of 3,4, and 5 sadly.
getting Liu Bei's 4th weapon on Yi Ling on Hard is one of the toughest achievement i have done in any game
which game is that
FINALLY someone who doesn't hate DW6.
Yep welcome to the minority! Not tooo many like 6, and yeah im excited for DW Origins too, hopefully its just full of content to explore
Damn finally someone that sees what i see when it comes to dw 6.
Yezzzzzzirrr lo
3 was also my entry into DW. Loved that game.
But for me my favorite is 8. Love all the paths and the hypotheticals.
8 is probably the best game objectively
DW3 was the game that started my love for this series. And if they remastered 3, I would pre-order and the whole 9 yards for the game
Oh 100%
A Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster would be SOOOOO COOL!!!
SO DOPE!
Love your videos and voice talent
Haha I appreciate that very much!
Haha nice welcome to the minority!
I started with dw3 as well as that has definitely always been my favorite! Dw4 should be right under that though!! That’s where we bump heads lol. I love the video!
Haha thats awesome, im gonna bump heads with a lot of peeps but thats okay! We all love the same game at the end of the day and thats what matters 😁
great video bro! can tell that you really love this game! 🔥👍
i disagree with the list but its all good! 😄
i started with DW2 and have been a fan ever since, my most nostalgic and favourite one is DW4 but i still think DW8 XL beats it today since they have come a long way in the mechanics.
my list would be from worst to best:
DW 6 (i really had a hard time with the renbu system and some of the changes to some characters + the copy, paste with moves.. Where is Lu Bu's halberd... xD),
DW 9 was sadly a swing and a miss for me, to much copy, paste on characters and the world is so lifeless..,
DW 2 even though its my first game of this series and i loved it when i first got it but, it just lacks alot of the story and mechanics of the later ones.,
DW3 since i didnt play it as much since i jumped right into DW 4 before i got DW 3 even though i did enjoy DW 3 it still felt alot more sluggish than 4 at the time,
DW 7 is a really story driven game and i love it!,
DW 5 is just awesome aswell and you are able to turn while you swing??!,
DW 4 mostly nostalgic reasons and i think the characters and stages look so good and making bodyguards and Custom characters was fun,
DW 8 even though its easy i do not really play DW for its difficulty mostly just for a good pass time and its fast pace, with good story, looks awesome, big roster to choose from, good moveset, and flows like a charm.
Good times
Sounds like some good times 🔥
I like this tier list being honest
I appreciate that this list says "I admit that this game (9) is objetively worse than 4, but I can't lie, I enjoyed 9 more". Its good to see that the list is just saying honestly one's opinion instead of trying to please an audience
Yep! Even though ive gotten tons of hate from it, have to stay true to what I feel, appreciate it! 🙏
@@TheNightowlGaming Again, it feels very good to watch. Anyone who is a decent person will understand that these videos must be personal opinion, and in that regard I apreciate that you went ahead and gave precisely what's advertised:
>"hi, I played all these games and these is how much I liked them"
I hate when youtubers do the loathesome thing of trying to predict what people want to hear. I personally find it bad to watch a video about the thoughs of someone only to want to hear them reinforcing my own opinion
stay healthy, my man
Dw5 empire is goated! Love your list 🎉
DW5E is a fave for sure !
Found out about Dynasty warriors on a demo disc from a Playstation Underrground Magazine fell in love and bought it. Then ended up getting the sequel Dynasty Warriors 4 and it was everything and more
haha thats awesome
My favorite game is either 7 or 8xl imo got some of the best world building and character progression. You feel their emotions so much more than earlier adaptations. of course my opinion.
8XLCE is the best game hands down, unless DW10 comes out w a bang
@@TheNightowlGaming let's all hope it does. We need something after DW9 disappointment.
My best part and what I enjoy to this day is Dynasty Warriors 3 with the expansion
DW3 is the goat 🔥
Dynasty Warriors 3 and 3 extreme legends were my first foray into the series and takes my #2 spot, but hands down Dynasty Warriors 5 and 5 Empires were my absolute favorite and the ones i spent the most time with. It was also the first time i ever maxed out the kill counter in the game at the battle of the yellow turbans, which i always thought was pretty funny.
Thats awesome! Dw5 is amazing 👏
My favorite, even though not a mainline, was DW 5 Empires for Xbox 360. It was the best Empires game and the 360 version had massively improved graphics over the PS2 version of DW 5. Still my go to game, also I love the ability to create your own army from the Empires games as far as pure gameplay
Yeah the empires games are always good, except DW9
@@TheNightowlGaming I don’t know what it was about this generation of games (my other favorite was SW 2 Empires that came out around the same time). I think they had the best art design and graphics were perfect. With the newer games they started making the character designs look super weird and cartoony. So this was my last of my favorite generations of DW games even though I still played up to 8
Man, im thay dark horse right with you. 3 was my first and unforgettable, but 6 I had a stupid amount of fun with. My top three are 3, 6 then 5
Nice! Welcome to the club! It gets dark over here sometimes.. lol 😁
dynasty warriors 3 is my favorite as well. It was great having the body guards. It was also good because the AI wasn't so easy to cut down and you needed to use your allies a lot more then in the later games.
100% so fun
Although DW6 didn't stick to the historical events, didn't have all the characters, and the renbu system was not the best.
We cannot forget that it was a unique upgrade in alot of other terms. The character design, the costumes, the cut scenes are 10 times better than DW9, also the voice acting was elite. even the graphics were awesome.
We cannot ignore the fire sound tracks it has. I still listen to them till this day
1000% an underrated game, it had its problems, but still one of my faves
DW3 is my favorite. It has good moral system, hits have weight, soldiers are there to defeat you and actually can defeat you instead of standing in front of you just to defeat them and get high K.O count.
Lets gooO!
Hey, I’m glad to know 6 is actually a good game if you get good at its weird systems!
Yep! Its a big comfort game for me, so much fun
5 is a good one if you love 3 n 4
@@TheNightowlGaming It's been so long since I played 2-4 (over 20 years for me at this point haha) that I don't really have any biases towards them so I can see myself enjoying the PS3-PS4 generation games for what they are as well, who knows.
Definitely gonna play DW5 before Origins though.
DW4 Empires was my childhood. It was my own tradition to play it every Christmas stsying up all night playing the empire mode with different characters lol good times. Ik this is about DW not the empires series but i played empires the most so😂
Yeah the empires games are great
DW3 was My first.
11:43 Turn on Captions, to see a cool potential band name xD
This guy 😂 🦖
2 was my first game and 6 was definitely my favorite too
Let's goooo
Three was my first DW game. I remember playing a demo at target or maybe Walmart. I didn’t even know at the time that it had any basis in history 😂. It was just cool that you had all the guys on screen to fight. I remember it was the level where you fight the guy on the elephant with the big metal fists I think. You had to beat him several times in the level.
Haha yep DW3 a classic and my fave !
Dynasty Warriors 6 is my favorite game, it had the perfect amount of characters and all the characters looked the coolest they have ever looked
Lets go! Welcome to the minority!
I did not know about this trick.. will have to try it haha
@@TheNightowlGaming the item is called “Scroll of Accuracy” I think. If it wasn’t for this trick it would not be part of my item equips at all.
As a person who started with 2 back when I got a PS2 for Christmas as a teenager and have played all the main ones (save for 9) since through the years I'd say...
1. 3
2. 5
3. 4
4. 8
5. 6
7. 7
8. 2
Put thousands of hours in the games and 3, 4, and 5 are my favorites by far, 8 came pretty damn close though but 6 and 7 were meh, and 2 aged badly and is a worse version of 3.
Damn that sucks, hopefully they remaster em and rerelease em one day, that'd be lit!!!
Yes Dynasty 3 got it all started for me. Loved the duels in vs mode. I’m currently playing 8. Awesome game!
So fun!
As for my rankings, it'd be
Hell yeah solid rankings and always nice hearing the origin stories from you guys 🔥
Bro I'm obsessed too, you heard of 'romance of the three kingdoms podcast'? Guy does a great job telling the actual story tanslated it's awesome to hear all the extra stories in between and the way he introduces new characters is awesome always has you guessing who it is 👍
i will check it out!
5 XL had the best levels imo. So many fun missions.
Gotta go through them, played both destiny and extreme mode, didnt do legend mode yet
My top 5:
5- Dynasty Warriors- I know its completely different from the later games but it was my introduction into this franchise when i was a kid.
I know its easier compared to 3, 4, and 5 but it was fast paced action that truly makes you feel like a one man army.
the older combat and map mechanics of dw3 & sheer quantity of maps from 8 would be great.
Good choices, mate! It just makes sense!
Solid list cant argue with it!
Dynasty Warriors 4,5,2 and my favorites to this day lol hahah
Haha nice! Everyone got their faves!
D3 remember dynasty tactics 2 that was a gem.
What’s wired is that dynasty warriors 6 is also my second favourite
Lets gooooo, such good memories
@@TheNightowlGaming it felt like a total war game more enemies sieges you had to break down base doors and kill enemies to capture bases set up rams laddies catapults take down ballista and watchpost to stop them firing down on you such a grand scale that we don’t see anymore
I used to race my dad to see who gets more kills. Definitely want to see a dw3 or 4 remake.
A remake would be awesome
I'd take just a Steam release with innate windows 10/11 support.
