    I think this goes without saying but one of the reasons I enjoy this channel's coverage of foldables is because they come from someone who genuinely immerses themselves into the technology and daily drives it. You know more than anyone else how this category has evolved and what needs to still be improved upon. So many other reviewers have become used to the idea of cashing in a review for a foldable only to run back to their iPhone or Pixel of choice, so seeing someone truly knowledgeable in what they're reviewing is such a delight

    The Samsung Z Flip 6 looks cool especially the crafted black, but $1099 is a lot of money. So I decided that I will get a Motorola Razr- 2024, because $699 seems like a good price still expensive but Z Flip 6 for $400 more doesn’t seem worth it imo.
    edit:
    I just got the Motorola Razr- 2024, and so far it is awesome, and I like it alot totally worth $699!

    My first flip phone, and I love it.
    I swapped off Samsung to Sony for a while, and while spec-wise it's similarily top-of-the-line, the user experience is just more refined on a Samsung phone.
    Coupled with trade-in deals, it's hard to justify buying a new phone from any brand that isn't from Samsung or Apple, especially if you change you phones every 2 to 3 years.
    With a spigen tough armor pro case, I haven't been babying it either, and the folding screen feels solid enough for me to use with confidence that I (or anyone I lend my phone to) won't accidentally damage it.

    I have a Flip 5 I bought at launch so now it's 1 year old. It has survived a few drops onto concrete (in a full case) foldables are plenty durable, except maybe sand, and despite it not having the best cameras it takes really good photos. I'm just not a huge fan of Goodlock, but the small display is good for timers, streaming audio, weather, step counts, that sort of thing.

      @ccroy2001 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@collin.a. it's slightly peeling from a drop when it was unfolded (fell like any other phone) Otherwise no. I think since when it goes in a purse or pocket it's folded helps keep the inner screen protected.

    • @txteva
      @txteva 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @collin.a. The screen protector is a 10 quid sticker- I don't get why people are so focused on it... all my previous non folding phones needed a new screen protector at least 1-3 times a year too!

    • @collin.a.
      @collin.a. 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@txteva that's not so much my concern, it's more that, once it bubbles, you apparently aren't supposed to fold it, or you risk damaging the display. and samsung says you shouldn't take it off or replace it by yourself, but instead go to a Samsung repair location to have it done. otherwise you void warranty I believe. it just seems like it has a lot of potential to damage the screen if you don't closely monitor the bubble-presence, and if you aren't always able to immediately go get it installed at a repair center. Just seems like more anxiety and hassle for me, lol.

    • @txteva
      @txteva 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @collin.a. I've replaced about 5 of the protector screens (my Mum also has had a Flip3 since 2021, along with myself) and it's no more difficult than a standard screen protector other than remembering to keep it open for the first overnight to let the screen stick properly.
      I'd agree if the protector is creased then could pick up dirt etc and that's what causes the damage. If it bubbles then replace it but any phone would be the same.
      It's best changed at Samsung of course but since there aren't many stores and they were charging a lot for it (free in the US, not in the UK - well some people got one for free or it was £30) then DIY was the best option.

      Honestly as much as I do miss some key things from my slab Pixel 7 Pro, I'm just so sick of big heavy phones. I've gotten so sick of that form factor that I've decided I'm willing to give up those important things, just to have a small and light phone. I traded in for the zflip6, and like it quite a bit so far. The feeling of just a small square in your pocket and in your hand is amazing.
      I'm in Canada and I would have got the Asus Zenphone 10, but apparently phone calls drop a lot and connectivity is not great in Canada. So I basically had no other choice for a small Android phone lol.

    Most of the pain of moving subjects in samsung cameras has been solved for me by using the motion photo setting in camera app on my 23 ultra. It might be jarring when looking at the image at first as it will be a short video, but the final frame is the post processed image which will be the one shared if you chose to share the file. Most of the times it has also tweaked with the exposure and other settings slightly in the way which I preffered.

  • @sayid2012

    If you're considering purchasing a Samsung Galaxy Flip or Fold phone, I strongly suggest you think twice. As a loyal Samsung user, I bought a Galaxy Flip 5 less than a year ago, and it already has two pink lines and a black dot on the screen. After a lot of back-and-forth with customer service, they finally asked me to reset the phone yesterday, Friday, August 9, 2024. Today, I went to the Samsung store at Westfield Stratford, where I was informed that I would need to pay £340 to repair it because of a small dent, which apparently voids my two-year warranty.
    Given my long relationship with Samsung, I can no longer recommend their Flip or Fold phones. I've been a Samsung user since 2013, starting with the Galaxy Note 3. I still own a Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy Note 9, and a Galaxy S24 Plus, along with a Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and Galaxy Buds Live. I had been considering upgrading to the Galaxy Fold 6, but this experience has completely turned me off Samsung. Even though I’ve been satisfied with their products in the past, I now find their two-year warranty untrustworthy. Goodbye, Samsung. I have photos of the damage that voided my warranty.

    • @siopowar
      @siopowar 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That just sounds like buyer's remorse after one unit. And it has nothing to do with the Flip 6. I plan on going into the Flip 6 from an S23 Ultra, knowing I'm downsizing and that this Flip will have quirks. The flexible screen is new tech for every manufacturer, so you have to create a new baseline and invest in a good warranty because you can't really compare it to a classic slab phone. This is a marketing move to see what users want from their phones. The best one gets more R&D in the next iteration,

    This would be my first flip/foldable phone. I definitely was able to get a $1050 trade-in to offset the cost. It definitely isn't an ambitious phone like Motorola 2024 flip, but I think by constantly following Mr. Mobile on his love for Foldable devices, I can see that there have been a lot of improvements along the way to this 6th generation that is now breaking into the "mainstream" market. And that down the road, Samsung would have better software support for this device Vs Motorola. If I wasn't in the US market, I would probably have more choices... But sadly, I do not. I had always been on the fence with the flip, loved the concept of a smaller phone in my female clothing pockets. But I was always on the fence about it because the technology wasn't completely there yet for me to jump in 2020. But now, I think Samsung has gotten a lot of feedback from the flip, that it is a solid & refined product now.

    Thanks for the coverage Michael, keep it up. I'll be interested to see how the screen and screen protector hold up on this one. Have you needed to replace your Flip 5 screen protector yet? I am a bit flip-curious, but I worry about the screen protector. I have heard that once it starts to bubble, you shouldn't close the phone before replacing that bubbled-protector because you may damage the screen. That concerns me a bit, as does Samsung advising against removing the protector yourself (I believe that's still the case at least).

    I agree. The Samsung Z flip 6 is a matured version. I enjoy using the cover screen. It really works for NFC payments and checking mail, etc. Responding, to mail, messages, not as easy. TH-cam is pretty bad on the cover screen. The fact that you can't get Google Assistant (voice command) to work on the cover screen is a big issue. For 100% of all other phones (except z flip...) you can use voice command anytime. The fact that it will not work on the cover is a missed opportunity. IT seems that it could probably be easily fixed....but I'm not holding my breath. I feel much better now that I said this...thank you. I just got a Nothing Watch Pro 2, and I think you would find it interesting. Its RTOS is limited for sure compared to Android Wear or even Samsung's old Tizen-based OS, but the insane battery life enables a whole other workflow. I never have to think about charging it, and together with its IP68 rating, I basically never take it off -- it's just always there. Honestly, it feels more like a modern take on those old Casio watches than whatever the "smart watch" competition has been cooking up. Its compromises might not be your style, but I think you can appreciate what it has going for it.

I just ordered my Flip 6 in Yellow and I cannot wait. I feel It has reached a point to being near perfect. I still also have a razr coming too because...why not !

    I got this phone and it's the first flip I have but I definitely feel a little jealous of the Razr 50 Ultra, it's beautiful in person and my worry that it was too big in videos basically disappeared once I held it. I do like the build quality of this Flip 6 however and the crafted black back feels great. I hope Samsung finally makes the cover screen bigger in the next Flip and hopefully OneUI 7 will solve much of the software stuff.

  • @mutlsam

    What I learned after years of Galaxy Flips is that a potential buyer of a Flip should not consider it as a two-displayed phone, like a Fold or a bit more similar-looking option that is Moto's Razr, and should consider it as a smartphone that happen to has a buffed Galaxy Watch on the outside.
    Personally, I'm a full time (dumb) watch user. I can't go anywhere without one and I dislike the existence of a smart watch on my wrist, even though I like the convenience of it secretly. So, a phone that happened to has an oversized and overpowered smart watch on its cover should be just the thing I'm looking for.
    Therefore, I believe that it is time for me to trade-in my iPhone for a Flip that actually has a main camera which can hold up to a certain standard along with a (finally) respectable camera and a built-in smart watch.
    As always, a great review, Mr Flip. I always love watching your content and the honesty you provide within your content, which is actually succesfully will be leading me to buy something that folds this year. Peace (❁´◡`❁)

    Today is day 2 with the Flip 6. Not my first foldable but my first flip style. I originally wanted the Razr but got a Flip for almost half the RRP without trading in anything so thought I'd give it a try.
    It's far from a perfect device. I haven't used a single AI feature. It is not the phone for everyone but so far it's being a good phone for me.
    I go for walks wherever I can and like watching or just listening to videos, folded this device is so comfy in one hand for this.

    I am definitely an iPhone guy. Up until recently my daily driver was an iPhone 15 Pro. I do see the benefits of a quality android device. My current daily driver is the Galaxy Z Flip 6. I have to say the pocket size form factor is phenomenal. This year Samsung has gotten a lot right with this upgrade for the Flip 6. The 12 GB of ram and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 are nice improvements. This year's phones feel sturdy and premium build. To be honest, many of the AI features seem like a party trick that will not get a lot of use.
    The battery life seems to be an improvement over last year. I returned the Flip 4 and 5 because of the subpar battery. So far so good with battery life with my Flip 6 😊.

    Thanks for pointing out that sadly shutter lag/motion blur still plagues Samsung devices, after all those years. I mean, I appreciate xyz zoom range, megapixels and AI thingies, but blurry unusable picture of anything with even slight movement (no, Camera assistant does not help, no, one should not use Pro mode for this) should not be acceptable in 2024.

      @@derekisthematrix literally everyone else solved shutter lag problem. Using S23U last year, my prehistoric Iphone 6 and friends Pixel 4a had better results when it comes to moving subjects. Ill shine a light on the cover screen, it's because Samsung is working with Google and until Android 15 cover screens are severely limited, Android 15 adds in official cover screen support and will allow apps and stuff to run on it outside of an unofficial capacity. Alongside treating the external display much more like a secondary real screen. Part of the contract.
    You want circle to search and quick security patches etc, you gotta work with google!

    I don't understand why they don't include faster charging. The phone has two separate batteries by default, to fit its architecture. If each battery charged at 30 Watts, you'd have 60 Watts fast charge. Good for its battery life and your time economy.
