Today is my Mother's Birthday.. Prince was her favorite musician and this is her favorite song.... And now she's dancing with Prince in the Purple Rain.. Rest easy, Mom!
Prince crying while he's singing is so iconic. He knew then that it was his life altering moment. I went to see Purple Rain with my Mom when I was 16. During this scene everyone in the theater was waving their hands in the air, including my Mom. I looked over at her and her eyes were welled with tears. Like Prince, she's gone now too, so it's a VERY special memory for me. 💜
My girlfriend and I watched this movie in Reno during the summer of 1985, and at the time we both thought it was a great movie with an incredible soundtrack, and a powerful message about love, but we had no idea about the pain and suffering involved in loving one another. Fastforward 40 years later, a career, 3 children and 2 grandchildren later, we now understand the pain and agony involved in loving one another and protecting a relationship.
My brother, who passed away in 2013 at the age of 16, once told us how underrated Prince was and that Purple Rain was such a masterpiece. So we played it at his funeral and whenever I hear this song, I'm taken back to this time right after we lost him. It's so incredibly sad to me and even now that I'm 19 and it's been so many years, this song makes me (and my mom) cry as soon as we hear the first few seconds of it.
I'm sorry to hear and it's story like yours is the reason behind me uploading this masterpiece ♥ Prince is a legend and may both your brother and Prince Rest in Peace ♥

Welcome to the culture started by Purple Rain in 1984-my birth year. If you're 61 and just coming across this gem, you're in for a wonderful trip thru Prince's history and why he's the icon he is.
This is one of those songs that no matter how many times you listen to it, you don’t lose that feeling you experienced the first time you listened to it. There’s something magical about this song.
Who like me is listening to this in 2025? Timeless! No words can describe this masterpiece of a song...to Prince, one of the greatest artists, may God rest his soul.
I’d also like to dedicate this song to my father, he worked on tour for Prince as a keyboard technician when I was only a few months old. We lost him to brain cancer 10 years ago now, but songs like this remind me of his spirit and the passion he had for music 💜
As a child, I remember when Elvis died. My mother cried and cried, but I did not understand. When I was a bit older, John Lennon died and my older sister cried and cried, but I did not understand. Then Prince died... and I understood.

I've always felt that way too. I grew up in the 80s n wore my parents by a copy of this movie to death. It didn't matter if we were walking thru the purple rain in a field of violets on the back of his bike going to old man Johnson's farm.. Prince was on a journey n he brought you along ❤❤❤❤
100% truth..This audio and video represent a moment in my preteen life when my mom had this LP I used to listen to behind her back. While she had to go to work and I was 8. I had Access to the stereo and records. 🎉
I saw him do this song at earls court around 96. He played it on his own, and when it came to the last vocal part 8000 people sang it.. totally mind blowing.
My father always told me that he didn't want to get close to me because I would suffer and miss him when he died. I remember telling him Isnt that what you are supposed to do? Well guess what? He died suddenly and it was a shock but I didn't miss him and I didn't cry.
My older sister dragged me to this concert in in 1984. I was a .Metalhead. I told my friends what I saw. They didn't believe me. My God! What a talent! R.I,P. Prince!
@@donjuan2421 It was not this exact concert from this video, but it was the Purple Rain tour in 1984. We saw him at Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas. Tons of girls there! Wow!
38 years and it still hits all the feels. My mama stood in line with me for hours waiting for ticket master to open, so I could buy tickets to the Cleveland concert. 🥲 Mom passed last week at age 80.
My mum took a job in a hotel gift shop in Glasgow when she was older, one day, Prince came into the shop and spent 45 minutes with her trying all the aftershaves, perfumes and soaps..she said he was a lovely wee man and an absolute gentleman
Thirty-seven years later, . . . and this song STILL stops me dead in my tracks, and brings a tear to my eye, EVERY time that I hear it. Love you, Prince.
In my money back and Andy palacz saying smile and you can't always get what you want but you can try sometimes you might find what you're looking for, Andrew w rajca is now only Andrew w palacz saying smile
Prince we are still here listening to you 2024, going into 2025. In a another 100 years after im gone, your music will still be played. Rip my dear knowing your music will live on!!
Being a guitar player and student for around 5 years, I know how difficult is to convey your emotions through your instrument. It takes a pure a master to make the music you think in your head sound the same as the music that comes out from your instrument and prince has done just that in the solo of this song.
The fact that you realise the challenge ,in conveying the emotions through the instrument tells me you are the greatest in the making....keep pushing....dearest
@@spiroberto I guess it’s an opinion you are rightfully entitled too and many will agree with your opinion, and many will ( like myself who thinks it’s a fantastic song ) also disagree with the opinion it’s the greatest . I think there are too many fantastic songs in the world to make that judgement.
@@mikeyhughes8992 least pretentious Prince enjoyer.Appreciate your witful response unlike other fans of this popstar. Hard to find someone with a brain in Prince's fanbase.
Is there an award for that, because i have all my life loved this song. It has always been my no 1 song. And i am now fully sure thats what purple rain is. Its his rainy days, his broken heart its his tears that no one saw. Purple rain is princes pain.
Dressed like prince, singing like prince and plays like prince. I Also have a hard time to picture morzart wearing a purple leather jacket with rivets on.
When Prince goes, "honey, I know, I know, I know times are changing." It just hits me super hard and I keep replaying it. I don't know why. I guess it feels like he's speaking directly to us and letting us know that everything is going to be okay despite the uncertainty. I love this song so much.
Truly great music stands the test of time, not a huge prince fan, but man this is one of the greatest bits of music ever written. Decades will pass and people will still listen.
I'm 56 now, and it doesn't look like Purple Rain by Prince is going to be knocked off the top of my all time favourite songs list.... nothing has even come close, it will be played at my funeral. Its just simply my song.
@@Stakwell Been in the music business for over 10 years I was 13 years old when Purple Rain came out and I've heard very few people ever mention him. He's extremely underrated.
Having Prince in my life, I sometimes think must have been like the time when Mozart and Beethoven were around, musical geniuses spreading joy and happiness with their music and never appreciated as much until their passing, only then were they truly appreciated! In a thousand years this song will still be played and people will still know the name Prince Rogers Nelson. RIP sweet Prince and thank you for making my small life special with your music in it!
Purple Rain was and still is a masterpiece by Prince I don't know how anyone can not like this song. Prince was very talented and at times treated so unfairly by some in the media especially not understanding the pain he was going through. Sometimes you never know what a person is going through unless you've walked in their shoes. Let the person without sin cast the first stone is something we all need to remind ourselves at times.
The Media needs stay out of everyone business n stop the DAMN GOSSIPING! Get your own life then you'll be to busy to Gossip we have no right to put he said ,she said shit out there ,because that's what it is everybody wants be the Damn Judge ! If where all judge then who will the jury be !
Shit there isn't one Damn person on this earth that is perfect nobody n people need stop talking about other people's life cause that's bullshit I've got bunch Boys well i call them my Boys and they are my family by choice not blood but none the less i love each n everyone of them the same and i have n i would do anything for them no matter what it's loyalty things with me i promised them I'd always br here n i will yeah they all got little caught up with drugs but before anyone says shit or shakes their head don't cause nobody knows why and what those Boys been through but i do i know more then anyone n they all at one point lived with me n i tried help n look out for them n those Boys have a big big heart n are sweet n good young men that just never had anyone that really cared n stuck by them n showed them their worth and they always made sure i was ok one would ride his bike or whatever every night after working all day on roofs to see if i needed anything or if i had food n money i would never take nothing from either of them but it felt good to see him have something that was important to him I'd just smile n he would tell his guy friends that came with him that he had better not see any of them come to my house if he isn't there i laughed said Boy he said Na i mean it ! No one has the right to judge or talk about anyone's life because like i say you know my name but not my story! I always find the good in someone n trust this they are all paying for what they did n that was hurting themselves n no one else. N shouldn't be because those Boys have already paid enough in their lives thats for sure and shouldnt have to pay more n should be getting the right help needed most of the time the people talking s*** and running their mouth are the people that are doing the most and have more to hide that's why they talk ! So next time you get ready to open your mouth and talk about someone DON'T JUDGE YOURSELF BECAUSE YOUR NO ONE'S JUDGE N IF WE ARE ALL JUDGE'S THEN WHO BE WILL BE THE JURY! TO SAVE SOME OF THESE BOYS OR WHOEVER THAT NEED TO BE SAVED !
He could throw the best shade... that side eye. 😏 Idk why he was so dang sexy... and his music pure genius that could baptize love or exercise demons. Never forgotten
Purple Rain isn’t just a song, it’s a cultural reset, it’s the oxygen you breathe, it’s a lifestyle, a reason to breathe, an escape from this cruel world, it’s art, the first gift you open on christmas, a hug from a loved one, everything you’ve ever wanted 💖
My philosophy of life: Don't lose hope on every choice & action you're doing. There must have reasons & rewards/lessons from them. Even nothingness has a meaning. Fighting for your existence.
It's a song about loving someone enough to let them go. It hurts so much and cuts so deep but also healing and helping to make peace with what could have been but wasn't meant to be.
My generation (anybody who grew up in the 80s) is truly blessed. There will never be another Prince. No artist today even comes close. Prince, Bowie, MJ... they were all legends.
I'd be honored if some Prince & MJ fans would check out my acoustic piano & vocal covers of PURPLE RAIN and MAN IN THE MIRROR on my channel in tribute to the 2 greatest musical superstars of the 1980s. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and RESPECT to the legends.
Truly one of the most beautiful, intense and meaningful songs that have ever been written. Flash forward to 200 years from now, this song will still sound ahead of its time. You were a genius, Prince, you left us way too early, but you live in your music
I have never seen a musician (artist) sing a song with so much feeling in my life. Sung and played with a great emotional charge. Emotion and feeling bubble up with each syllable and chord. Prince: Pure talent.
I would like to dedicate this song to myself, thank you Prince for bringing me back to life every time I listen to Purple Rain. 40 years on and it still brings me chills and takes me to another level every time I hear it. Loving that guitar, loving the look of that crowd, there is NO ONE above you Prince!! You are on top of my musical pyramid. Long live Prince!!!
He had epilepsy growing up. He taught himself how to play all the instruments in a band..he was a musical icon that can never be forgotten..peace and love to you forever Prince..
I didn't know that but hes my icon I play gibson and fender guitars I have the original video tape of the movie and it pulls my heart strings every time I watch it and let's not forget wendy and lisa,,outstanding angie burke.
Epilepsy?!! I had Epilepsy when I was a kid, resulted in me having 2 seizures I can remember. The other one ended with me in a ambulance. I never knew he had it.
I'm 51, so when he passed, it was like a big part of my younger self died as well. Being born in '73 was a blessing. Being alive during that time was AMAZING! His music was then, and always will be, in my heart and soul. 💜
For two weeks straight after Prince tragically passed away, I played this song on repeat every day. I still get teary-eyed when he hits that guitar rift. This man was such a legend #RIP 😔

“When there’s blood in the sky… red and blue = purple. Purple rain pertains to the end of the world and being with the one you love and letting your faith/God guide you through the purple rain,” - Prince said of the song’s meaning.
There are stories that in the far past the atmosphere was purple. More oxygen, bigger life forms etc. It's a hidden message. Prince was taken out by 'them'...

Wasn’t a fan in the least, back in the 80’s. Total metalhead: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy, Dio, ect. Still a 57 year old metal head. As the years have rolled on, I’ve really come to appreciate Prince. Great song writer, laid a bunch of hot women, knew how to play guitar, wasn’t into children, unlike another big talent of that time. Can’t tell you how much I respect this man’s talent. Phenomenal song and performance. I’m here in January of 2025. I’ll be here until the end of my days.
I agree!! I love Prince and miss him dearly. This song and movie defined my childhood and teenage years. Thank you so very much for posting it. As his music was so hard to find on TH-cam for a long time. I know why though and I agree completely with why it wasn't here before. Thank you once again.
Watching on Sept 25, 2018. I'm 48 years old, and I'm thinking this: "I am so grateful that I can say I lived at the time Prince blew the doors off the music world in the 1980s. God has been good to me indeed." :) Thank you, Purple One. You poured your heart out up there. We heard you. The energy exchange is magical.

My father always told me that he didn't want to get close to me because I would suffer and miss him when he died. I remember telling him Isnt that what you are supposed to do? Well guess what? He died suddenly and it was a shock but I didn't miss him and I didn't cry.

Being a guitar player and student for around 5 years, I know how difficult is to convey your emotions through your instrument. It takes a pure a master to make the music you think in your head sound the same as the music that comes out from your instrument and prince has done just that in the solo of this song.

Eric clpaton was once asked how it was being thengreatest guitarist ever....he said they would have to ask Prince. Such a great response
Well shit eh.. Imagine how many bands, got worse treatment by the presstitute over the years.. You want a fkn beach towel for those tears?
Jim love the way he sings He has a very special talent

Wasn’t a fan in the least, back in the 80’s. Total metalhead: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy, Dio, ect. Still a 57 year old metal head. As the years have rolled on, I’ve really come to appreciate Prince.
