Thank you for the video Bryan. I did the r6 throttle tube on my r3 and the throttle cable was too tight to fit on the new r6 tube even with the adjustment maxed out topside. If not for this video I'd be lost especially since I couldn't get my old throttle tube back on. This video explained everything perfectly and made it look so easy. I had a harder time getting the fairings back on lol! I also used your video to install my woodcraft clip ons last year. You rock Bryan, please keep making these great videos!
For anyone wondering i installed the R6 throttle tube on a 2019 MT-03 (im in Australia) and it works perfectly. Very noticeable improvement in response. The cable was a total PITA to get on with the larger circumference , even with full slack. I ended up partially threading the screws on the throttle body when trying to remove them 😢 they are on very tight!
i'm doing this mod on an MT07 and i have the same problem with cable. Basically with both cables in, the throttle grip just locks up and refused to return. I did not open up the screws at the throttle body. At the moment i'm running it single cable (pulling the throttle open). STG's video, 6 min = throttle body cable is removed. 10 min = throttle body cable is reinserted. Question : can the return cable (the cable that pushes the throttle open, the longer cable at the throttle tube)) be adjusted ? because my problem is here. IF i run one cable (the cable that pulls the throttle open) it works perfectly fine.
A GOOD TRICK IS TO START THE BIKE WHEN YOU INSTALL A TROTTLE TUBE. AND GO FROM LOCK TO LOCK IF THE REVS GO UP ITS BINDING OR NEEDS ADJUSTING TO KEEP THE REVS AT IDLE SPEED FROM GOING FROM SIDE TO SIDE
did throttle mod to my k6 gsxr 1000. you had to double grab to get to WOT so i threw on 03 R1 throttle tube($10 ebay) with zip tie mod to drastically reduce the throw on my throttle. works so well now but had to relearn to rev match the bike cuz i would over rev now on the down shifts. have to micro rev to catch it right.
I have never done the mod with the zip tie. It is very important your throttle is smooth and does stick. I would recommend installing a new quick turn throttle instead of the zip tie deal. - Van
i love your videos they are very accurate and true, I also have the same year model, so everything i get the pleasure of learning from you i really appreciate it, and what yall do for the rest of us that want to do things the right way
Your videos are Fantastic!! Quick question, what can be done if you have the slack adjuster backed off all the way with no more room? Is there another place to adjust the slack or do you have to re-cable it?
Thanks for watching. It has been a minute since we shot this or since I have handled the OEM R3 throttle. I am pretty sure we show all the available adjustment in this video. From your comment it is hard to tell if you are having trouble getting this installed or if you are not able to get it adjust after installing. One thing I can tell you is it is important the work is done correctly and the throttle does not bind. - Van
2022 MT-03 all i had to do was take the three screws of the housing, and pop the Tube in. No adjustment, worked like a dream. No sense in greasing the bars either if the bike is within the last 2 years or so.
I have the exact same bike. May I know if in the video your fork is lowered? I've seen a couple of R3's with different placement of the clipon bars and mine looks like yours so I was wondering whether it was stock or whether it has been altered
Just finished doing this 2019 R3, and the difference is noticeable. I was able to slip mine on with out removing the cable at the throttle body. The bike idles fine while sweeping the bars, but I have all the free play out of the cable at the throttle. Should this be a concern? Is there way to add more slack to that cable? Thanks for the great videos!
As long as the throttle has a good strong return and the rpm's do not pick up when you sweep the bars back and forth you are good to go. Thanks for watching and sharing your feedback. - Van
I did the tube and it went fine, I just want to get rid of some of the heavy engine braking and I heard that cones from the ecu, but is there an easier way to adjust that tube so it returns to less of that?
hi van . i just watched your videos. ive been thingkin to get the R6 trottle tube. but not sure which year of the R6 would i get. my R3 is 2015. pls and thank. stay safe
The R6 is 1/6 of a turn the oem is 1/4 but I'm trying to find a 1/8 trottle tube. Not easy... Also does the R6 throttle cables fit in the R3 as I'm considering fitting a whole R6 throttle assembly on my R3 but not sure about the R6 cable length??, Also is the R6 throttle tube a quicker turn then the motionpro rev2 50mm ring or the progressive orange ring.
I would suggest going with the Motion Pro REV2 kit. This is what we have on all three of our bikes and I believe this is the absolute be option out there currently. With all the cams in the kit you will be able to get the throttle right where you want it. - Van
Hey I have a question I just buy a bike and try to change my handle grips and I found out the last owner glue them with some hard glue what can I do to remove them thanks in advance.
Man that is a bummer for sure. All you can do is try to chip or sand it off, this may be hard to do on the plastic throttle tube. You may need to purchase a new throttle tube to save time. - Van
Thank you for your insight as always. However, it would be great if the cameraman could more clearly capture what Brian is doing with his hands rather than being blocked by them.
You are welcome. Important to remember we are a bike shop and not a Hollywood studio. End of the day we can only invest so much time on each video as I have a ton of other stuff to do. Comparing us to Revzilla at STG the owner is the dude doing the 1000's of install videos that has a professional mechanical background that goes back over 30 years. - Van
From what I understand, you can simply adjust the cable tension to take out the 'dead spot', no need to replace the throttle tube. Dunno if that info is legit, but it seemed to make sense.
That Will only eliminate the slack, however, the travel Will be the same once It starts pulling the cable until WOT, this throttle tube Is phisically bigger so the actual travel is way shorter, the travel adjustment does make It Easy Better to ride, tho
You can adjust the cable to remove the free play. Replacing the throttle tube allows you to get to 100% throttle without less rotation of the throttle. This mod helps a bit but is not as effective as installing a full quick turn throttle kit. - Van
What if the cable seems too long even with the top fine adjuster fully absorbing all the slack it can? Its like the cable is too long. (not too short like you had)
@@sportbiketrackgear yeah it seems there is no adjustment on the throttle body like on some other bikes . Mine was an Amazon heated grips, it was ok for a spring road trip. but I'm probably going to rip and replace with the r6 tube as this bike is getting repurposed for track only use
Si yo quiero poner alreves el mando decencendido , me afectara el acelerador ? Quiero poner por debajo el manillar pero los cables rozan en las tolvas .
If you have the exact same bike and installed this tube you need to double check your work. Pay close attention to your throttle cable adjustment. - Van
You should be able to reuse the grip as long as you can get it off without damage. The OEM stuff is usually glued on and hard to save. Best to order new ones IMO. - Van
"I like to get a real thin layer of grease in there" - What grease are you using inside the throttle tube? I searched online and everyone says to not use any, or in rarer cases use WD40 or use graphite.
I use a thin layer of common universal grease under all of the throttle tubes I install. Have been doing this for years. My Son is racing the bikes I build in MotoAmerica. - Van
I want to install lever guard to my stock handle bar but got the anti vibrate rod , so if i remove the rod and install my lever guard , whats the effect and what i need to do to to make it normal again ?
The Driven Lever Guard kits can typically be installed with the OEM bars and insert. Take a look at this video we did with a 2017 Yamaha R6: th-cam.com/video/sUfCjApIAe4/w-d-xo.html - Brian Van
Replacing the throttle tube should not have anything to do with vibrations. This is most likely a new issue or something you did not notice previous to installing the throttle tube. Make sure you double check all of your work to ensure you have not left something loose. - Van
Yeah i figured. I like K-Tech, but for my 19 zx-6r they are asking $1300 - $2400 it's alot. I takes plenty of money to go fast, no secret....anyway love your videos...all the best, stay healthy.
Hello StG I’ve been following you since I decided to buy my first bike which is R3 and I made some mods on it, I change the stock exhaust into yoshimura full system but since the changes made I feel my bike bacame slower , it throws more back fire than before it run lean sometimes when I riding it there re times that you’re going to revs the throttle but only fart, unless you will revs again to gain power I will glad if you can help me to solve this I ask some mechanic they told that if I decided to full exhaust I will be needed power commander 5 right now I remove the full exhaust and put back my stock exhaust full system I’m thinking what if if I just change cannister only and not the stock pipe below? We installed full systems on our R3 without any fuel controllers and felt the performance was improved over stock. If you feel the performance went backwards you may have another issue with the bike. Installing a slip on will keep the performance and sound pretty close to stock. With a full system you will need to either flash the ecu or install a fuel controller as well as remove the PAIR system to get the maximum benefit. - Van
The R3 has Woodcraft clip ons with Motion Pro Grips (they came with the Rev2 throttle kit) and a Driven trackday lever guard on the brake side. When I rode the R3 I did not feel any excessive vibrations with our set up and Max has never complained. What are you running on your bike? - Van
This mod helps and makes it a little quicker than stock. If you do not feel this is enough then you need to replace the OEM throttle assy with a Motion Pro REV 2 quick turn throttle. We did this on our R3 after Max rode the bike once or twice with the throttle tube mod. He said he noticed a difference with the throttle tube mod, but the difference with the REV 2 was much better and more along the lines of what he wanted. We used the RR Cam in the throttle.
