    I just replaced my starter and removed the wiring heatwrap I didn't put it back on for lengthy reasons. It looks like you left yours off as well. Do I need to worry about my wires melting?

      You will be fine as long as the wire harness is not rubbing on anything that could wear through the insulation. - Van

    Hello Brian, before installing my BMC filter, the sponge you glued on the filter tore when opening it. Should we install it without sponge or find another sponge and stick it on?

    • @sportbiketrackgear

      You need to have that in place. Try to repair the foam seal with some glue and let it dry before you slid it in place. - Van

    Hi STG, Ive installed a full system exhaust on my yamaha R3 2021 a year ago. Do I really have to reflash my ecu? I ddnt see any issues, its just that there are lots of backfires when I do a sudden downshift.

    hi Brian ,
    had a small tip over to the right today, yamaha r3 . fortunately frame slider , spool, rear brake pedal ( got bent) , took the brunt, got the pedal straightened. the forks are fine. Very lucky . Bad cement road , with lot of gravel, stones. probably pressed the front brake harder than usual , at slow speed while turning rite.. the weather is Hot in Madras ( India ). the grip level is low on the roads , due to high temperatures.

    If you have a 2019 or 2020 you don't need to take the main side fairings off or the tank and cover. If you loosen the tank cover and take all bolts and clips off that you can see that are attached to the plastic tank cover and remove just the fairing that's covering the air filter you can get enough space to avoid all the extra steps. But this is just to replace the filter only. Not clean everything out.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on how many miles are on the bike. If it is super new then you may not feel the need to clean up the airbox. - Van

    Hi. Did you have to lower the r3 so max could reach the floor? I’m asking because my daughter wants to start riding and I was thinking of the r3 for her first bike. Thanks

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I never lowered the bike for him, that will have a negative effect on the handling of the bike. He started when he was 11 and was only able to put 1 foot down. Now he is 13 and I have the bike raised up (race suspension) much higher than stock and he grew enough to put both feet down. - Van

    I’m confused why would you need to remove the tank…. The black fairing on the side is literally the access panel to the air filter… you remove the panel then undo the three screws on the left side or the 4 on the right side if you choose and there’s your filter… it’s literally in the service manual

    The red epoxy/caulking started coming apart and crumbling on my BMC filter. Don't want that being sucked into the throttles. I replaced it with a Sprint filter which is even less maintenance since all you do is blow it out with air.

    • @gz4789
      @gz4789 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      +1 on Sprint filter...I use a P08 filter on my 1299 and love it. No oil required.

    do you recommend piggy back fuel controller like Power commander or just getting ECU re flashed?

    • @sportbiketrackgear

      I am only using the PC for the quick shifter, all maps in the PC are at zero. We are running a flashed ecu on this bike for fuel management. - Van

    Hey STG, I currently run a Competition Werkes GP Slip On exhaust on my 16' R3. I noticed I have been getting really low gas mileage (granted all my riding is stop and go city riding, and I also have a small exhaust leak/dented/caved in mid pipe just before exhaust reaches the catalytic converter). I haven't made any other performance mods, and was wondering if a performance air filter, ecu flash, or new fuel map/controller are in order to solve my issue. Just for reference, I checked out Fuelly, and noticed most people averaging roughly 50-60 mpg and I only get 34-36 mpg. I will concede to being a rather aggressive rider (hard accel/decel, and many wheelie sessions in vacant lots). Could my issue be unrelated entirely? Thanks in advance for any insight/advice. -Avid Viewer

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Odds are you mileage has more to do with how you are riding the bike than anything else. What was the mileage like when the bike was new? If the difference is very slight odds are everything is good to go. If there is a big difference it may be time for some maintenance. - Van

    • @cyb0rg83
      @cyb0rg83 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sportbiketrackgear i usually do all the maintenance at the given intervals, sometimes do extra unnecessary maintenance just to keep it in perfect order. I did a little research and I think the crack in the midpipes could be drawing in fresh air while riding, tripping the O2 sensor into thinking the bike is running lean, thus telling the bike to inject more fuel and running rich consequently. If it is this, then all i gotta do is patch up the leak, or replace the pipes, and I think I should be good to go. Thanks for your input, there are few people I turn to for R3 advice, but STG has always been one of them. Thanks, -Avid Viewer

    How often should I change my air filter for the Yamaha R3 2017? Thanks!

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pull it out and inspect it at the start of every season. If it is dirty then replace it. How long it will last is determined by the conditions you ride in and how much you are riding the bike. - Van

    Would a k&n air filter and power commander be necessary for the installation of the m4 street slayer slip-on on a 2019 R3?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You do not have to install a fuel controller with that system if you prefer not to. We rode our STG R3 for quite a while with the M4 system on it before installing the fuel controller and had zero issues. If you want to get the maximum performance from the bike you will need to flash the ecu or install a fuel controller at some point. - Van

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The race filter offers a bit less filtration than the street so more will pass by over time. Odds are it is not enough to really cause any damage, that said it is possible. If you are concerned about it stick with the street version and error to the safe side. - Van
