@@ohdirtracer yes, I totally agree, BMW K1600 & Honda Goldwing & Harley Street Glide are at the same price, but Honda and BMW have everything, you don't nearly need to add anything to them and they're much powerful and much smoothier than Harley. Harley makes you spend more after buying bikes.

When i compared the new base Indian Chieftain to the Base Street glide, in Canada anyway, a few things pushed me towards the Indian. Led lights, rear cylinder shut off at stops, better suspension, better power, bigger engine and a sweet electric windshield and 7 inch vs 4 inch screen, all come stock and aren't upgrades like on the Harley and for the exact same price.

@@ohdirtracer water cooling is a downgrade. It complicates the mechanicals and will be the very first thing to leak.

@@snakebite6511 every water cooled system on any vehicle, ever, will leak coolant and/or have pump failure at some point. Again, it over-complicates the mechanicals and adds another item to service and repair at some point. It is common sense and Murphy’s Law. You are just inhaling smoke.

I have a brand new Street Glide Special 2019. It's a nice bike but you do not get $27,000 worth of motorcycle. I have never met a dealership I really like both of the ones I've been to up here in Pennsylvania kind of treat you like shit. I literally bought a $27,000 motorcycle went back in a week later for my first service and they didn't even ask me how the ride was or if I was enjoying the bike it was just like hey. I just gave you 27 Grand and that's the warm welcome you get when you come back? They're pretty much assholes and arrogant. And I have not bought a single aftermarket piece from the Harley dealership as they are priced ridiculously out of control.

I LOVE my Harley but that comes w a fair amount of ... I guess you would say “disappointment. Disdain, dissatisfaction “ because Harley is taking extreme advantage of the folks loyal to their brand. I feel like that is the reason their brand loyalty is beginning to wane. So, why buy the garbage barge? Get a Road King and listen to music over your phone. Better fidelity anyway. RK also weighs a lot less and doesn't have that awful slammed suspension. Comes with rear crash bars too. Best part is it's about 25% cheaper!
For a big, comfy touring rig that gets around town and the backroads just fine too, I didn't find the price objectionable at all. Cheaper than most bikes in its class and doesn't have a bunch of crap I don't want anyway. If I need "infotainment," I'll get a beer, sit on the couch, and grab the remote.

The BMW K1600B is a much better value than the HD SGS. My fully loaded 2018 K1600B was $25k. The SGS is what... $2-4K more and then you still have to add a crap ton of accessories. Many of the added accessories you’re talking about come standard on the BMW and plus some; Adaptive Xenon headlight, all LED lights, step-less adjustable windshield, heated seat/passenger and grips, 3 ride modes, Dynamic Traction Control, Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment), ABS Pro, clutch-less shift (up and down), central locking, more torque and HP (no need to add a Stage 1,2,3 performance kit), and lighter weight (740lbs wet).

Good review. I have the 2020 street glide special and not much has changed from your review. Still no LED lights. How in 2020 can you sell this expensive of a bike without LED’s? Mind boggling. I upgraded them right away. It’s a safety issue. You need to be seen. I also added motolights for the same reason. I wish I had known about the Boom Box GTS before I purchased. Finding out about the “whim” module was a shocker to me. They tell you all about the Bluetooth and features of the radio then you find out you need a WHIM? $300 plus 2 hours labor to install ($200). In other words $500 to use the Bluetooth. Insane. And as you mentioned you are locked into the HD Sena headset as well. All of that and I opted not to do it. I disagree with your assessment of the speakers. At high volume they distort badly and at 70 mph I can NOT hear them. Period. In the end your options are to upgrade the speakers and add an amp (lot’s of labor, est. $2000) or consider the Boom Box GTS as nothing more than an in-dash GPSr and do what I did, buy a Cardo Pactalk bold and use your helmet mounted speakers and IPhone for listening to music. It’s a shame because it sure looks great in the showroom. Not so much on the highway. Agree about the saddlebag guards which I also added and am glad I did as it turns out. The bike itself is very nice. Engine is incredible. I opted for stage 1 and S&S mufflers. The other thing I’m looking at is a new handlebar. It’s just too low for me and is causing a great deal of stress in my wrists and forearms. The one change in 2020 was the option of the RDRS system which I like a lot. Thanks again for or the review.

I disagree 100%. The items you did not get..but had to buy? This is how H.D. screws the buyers. The Tour park adds 30 lbs to the bike and makes it top heavy..which in turn makes it want to fall over when at a stop. I own a Ultra Classic...it is nice..but is top hevay... fully loaded with just fluids..it weigh 950 lbs. And the CVO..weighs more...money wise...I would buy a nice used bike...the price of a new one...is just plain...stupid..and outrageous....I bought my 2018 used with 5238 miles..saved myself & 9,000.00.

My 2017 SGS was a very good bike, a bit pricey, but still a good bike. Loved the M8 motor and the look as well, but overall it was not the best touring bike I've owned. At 6'1", I always felt a little cramped ergonomically and the suspension/ride quality was terrible. That "slammed" look comes at a price. And forget about riding 2 up unless you replace the stock seat and suspension. I ultimately ended up trading it in after 3 years for a "new", leftover 2018 Star Transcontinental Venture. I only got $11.5k for a trade-in on the SGS, but got the Venture out the door for $19,995 (MSRP $18k) with a 4-year extended warranty.
The Venture's suspension rides like a limo. It has ABS brakes, traction control, two ride modes, navigation, tire pressure monitors, AM/FM, CB radio, Bluetooth (phone/iPod), heated seats & grips, remote locking saddlebags, an electronic windshield, just to start. It doesn't have the fit & finish of the Harley and it's not as "cool" looking, but it's a better bike in almost every conceivable way IMHO. You'd have to spend over $30k+ to get a comparably equipped Harley.

It’s whatever the buyer wants.. for me.. it’s way overpriced... the 114 should be standard in all touring bikes... the specials should get 117 or 120 ... just blackening them out and putting in a 114 isn’t really all that special is it? Not when it’s in there ultra standard....

Ive had Harley for a while, i currently have a 2009 Rocker C, 2014 Dyna Wide Glide & 2021 Street Glide, there was a brief period where i did go over to Indian & picked up a new Chieftain in 2019 but that bike was gone late 2021 and i ended up picking up a 2021 Street Glide. Sure, there are things to upgrade on a Harley but thats part of the fun of customizing and individualizing your motorcycle, if a Harley came stock with all of these things that people cry should be included then every Harley would look the same, no thanks.
Ive added a ton of things to my 3 motorcycles but its part of the fun and the experience, there is nothing i can not do to any of my Harley's, thats what i love about Harley.

This is your first bagger. Many of us who have had many bagger touring bikes put thousands of dollars in extras on every bike we've owned. My newest bike is a 2019 Roadglide ultra. $29,000. For the bike and I've put another $8,000. In extras. I keep every bike I buy so I don't mind putting money into them. I just had my stereo done to concert quality. $3800. All smoked led custom dynamics front and back.$2,000. Handlebars and grips $1100. Painted inner fairing and trim. $1,000. Ohlins rear shocks.$950. Floorboard upgrade, this that and whatever. You get the picture. When you get bit by the accessory bug it turns into an obsession.. I wouldn't change a thing.

The previous owner put 2600 miles on it and stage 1 everything, then traded it in. From there I've done Stage 3 (gen 2) 122 w/TQ cam, 55mm alum Intake, Rekluse slave cylinder, S.E. clutch kit upgrade, Legend revo-a, Legend aexo, Black pushrods, Black Tappet covers, S&S Tappet collars, Plugs and cables, Reinhart full system, Auto Tune Module, Aux lights & housings, Mustang Seat, Sissy bar & luggage rack, Adjustable Levers, Cooling Fan & deflectors, Feuling vented dipstick, F/R & bag signals, LED Headlight, Heated Grips, S.E Pro tuner, Windscreen, Saddle guards, Full front fender, Lighted Hand controls
Hwy pegs, Matching D/P Boards, Fan oil cooler, Bag liners, KST 12" Bars, Mirrors, Shift linkage, Derby cover, Plug covers
Ext foot brake lever & floorboards. About another 8gs including labor. Did this all through harley to retain my warranty for the next 6yrs and then 5yrs after that. I recently bought a Honda Grom after owning a Yamaha raider 1900cc cruiser. I have had more fun on the Grom than any other bike I've had. 30k for a motorcycle is crazy. Smaller bikes are more fun. I still have the raider and honestly it sits in the garage. I will never buy another cruiser unless it's like an iron 883 or something small and cheap. The bigger cruisers suck cause you are limited to where you ride, I could never ride dirt or gravel roads on my raider due to the weight. Smaller cruisers I can with ease. The big baggers are really for touring only. I just never saw the thrill in long road trips, I get tired of the 3 hour non stop highway riding.

Saddle bag bars a must and yes expensive and unfortunately can't be repaired when the bike drops and then detracts from the appearance and value of the bike especially if you want to actually be one of the few to learn how to operate and control the bike at slow speeds. And hence motorcycledropguards.com. easily repairable and transferable from one bike to the next without detracting from the appearance and value of your present bike and allowing so many to actually learn to operate the bike like a pro.

Your right, it is too expensive and you will have to actually love the look. Which I do. It's very heavy and designed for long hauls. Since this covid19 thing, long hauls are kind of risky. I might think of getting a light tourer for everyday use and some short trips. It's like buying a 4x4 and never taking it off road. It's there if you need but you have to ask yourself, how often will you need a bike like this.

TOTALLY WRONG!!! The price difference between the Street Glide and the Street Glide Special is way out of line! The blackout parts are no more expensive than the chrome or polished parts. There’s just not that much more value in a special. The motor company could price the Special at least $2000 less and still be profitable with it. A blatant attempt by HD to gouge it’s customers by taking advantage the craze for blacked out bikes!
