    I got the Standard simply because I didn't want all blacked out this time around, I wanted chrome. I have the upgraded BOOM touch display and ABS though, as well as the Day Maker headlight. Beyond that, the 107 is far more powerful than the 96 in my Springer and I don't find myself needing more power. It's plenty fast and very smooth. I could have gone full CVO had I really wanted, but I did not see the need. I got everything I wanted and nothing I didn't.

    Great comparision. I have a 2020 SG special and the extras were 100% worth the difference in price. A motorcycle is a luxury item...essentially a toy for most of us. If I'm going to buy something for my entertainment I'm not gonna scrimp on it just to save a couple grand. If I can't afford the one I like and want then I don't need one at all.

    In 2018 I traded in my 2000 Ultra Classic for a street glide sp. because the sp. had a bigger engine and bigger infotainment screen than the regular street glide. I also got the detachable tour pack. It's like having two bikes. With the tour pack on it's a long haul cruiser. With it off it's like a sports car. It now has 40k miles and I am still smiling

    I got the 2021 Street Glide Standard in River Rock Gray, i did get the upgraded Boom touch display and ABS. I like the chrome, the standard bags and the blank slate that is the standard.
    The 107 vs 114 is little difference in power. Ive done a fair amount of work to it, changed out to the SE Ventilator air filter, the full exhaust system including the headers, went with Cobra Neighbor Haters and Cobra headers, did a tune, changed out the shocks to Legend, Adaptive Daymaker headlight, got rig of the seat and added a Mustang with removable passenger seat, added saddlebag lights and some low profile fairing lights, saddlebag liners from Advanblack and a nice shelf added to my bags to keep things organized, bought a SE8 515 cam but not in yet, looking to add colour matched lowers and a razor trunk - Not sure if i will go with Harley or Advanblack. Changed out the grips to Harley AirFlow.
    Most of the work i did I would have had to do on the Special also.
    I also have a 2009 Rocker C with a 96" and a 2014 Wide Glide with a 103" - The 107 has poor to burn.
    My next bike will be a Street Glide with a larger version of the Revolution Max engine, when that is released, i will have one in my garage (hopefully it doesnt come in the CVO 1st as i dont really see any value for the price difference), i like the blank slate i can make my own.
    Thought about getting a Challenger but after looking at it and sitting on it, kinda felt like i was buying a Toyota - Very plastic feeling

    I have a 2020 SGS. I went with it strictly for the bigger motor. I don't even need the info system. I didn't want the 107 then have to stage 4 it because the longevity of the M8 at that level has not been proven. I did put the stage 2 kit in along with Feuling oil pump, cam plate and lifters. I have the Krause inverted front end which comes with Ohlins internals and Ohlins on the rear also. Added Kraus fly Moto bars and a lucky Daves seat. Waiting on my Bassani exhaust to arrive. I know it's a lot of money but I'm 62 and retired. This is my fourth Harley and I decided do do something for myself. I will say I do seem to see a lot more Road Glides these days than Street glides. Nice informative video.

    I have a 2020 Street Glide Special in river rock gray denim and love it. The only gripe that I have is for the extra money I would have expected LED lights, a completed Streamline collection for foot controls and grips and then a second key fob. For the money it is really cheesy for Harley to not have those options standard.

      Can't stand where they put the gascap; very unsightly. So it lowered the console a little bit. Big Deal!
      What about at the gaspump - now your bike has to face away from the pump, unless you don't mind
      dragging the hose over your tank.

    I know this is about the street glide, but I purchased a 2021 Road Glide standard in gauntlet grey, two weeks ago put 1800miles on it so far.
    Personally I like the chrome, and the enforcer wheel, didn't want the extended saddle bags, got the GTS and RDRS for under MSRP. Yes the 114 would be great but I'll end up going aftermarket for jugs/cam
    But the main thing is the color for me, and the only way to get gauntlet grey in the RG was in a standard.
    I can only imagine how much more my primary and the bags would be scraped with the lower shocks. Still lookin to upgrade to legends

    • @snakebite6511
      @snakebite6511 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Similar for me, I really like the River Rock Gray and was only on the standard, the upgrades that came with the special didnt mean that much.
      I still had to change out the seat, shocks, mufflers & heads and get it tuned, that would not have changed if i had bought the special no no thanks.
      I am looking forward to a larger version of the Revolution Max engine added to a Street Glide and when that happens i guess im buying another.

  • @timconway7860

    I like the review, even though my style is almost opposite. Almost every point you gave to the special, I gave to the standard. I like the standard's wheels better, I like chrome, I don't like the glossy finish on the inner batwing, etc. Maybe the 114 would be nice, but I'm perfectly fine with the 107. I do agree with you on the stretched bags. Color options are a good thing, but since one of my favorite Harley colors is Billiard Red, my point goes to the standard. The end result for me is the FLHX in Billiard Red with the upgraded infotainment system. I bought it yesterday. Thanks for the informative review! 👍

    • @timconway7860
      @timconway7860 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh, and I agree on the Daymaker. I brought one home with me to install. So I added $1400 to the standard price for the headlight and infotainment system which was a better deal for me than adding $5000 for the special that I didn't like as much.

    • @throttleblip9854
      @throttleblip9854  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You know I'm kinda changing my mind on the inner fairing based on how much it throws sun in my face when riding! You are a perfect example of someone who shouldn't buy the special because like you said you got more of the things that YOU like and spent less money. ALWAYS weigh that stuff out.

      I actually prefer the standard bags. The stretched bags are pure style over substance. I've seen a fair number of specials with 2 into 1 aftermarket exhausts and it's not a good look. If the standard bike had stretched bags I bet they could sell the standard bags with an upcharge. :-)

    how many things are you seeing you would want to change?
    Are the changes going to be with Harley products?
    only buy the specials or limited or CVOs if you are going to leave it exactly like that
    with me it'll be a standard edition I will deck out over the next few years. bigger motor than they offer, different cams (and not the screaming eagle), different totally custom paint, change of fenders/saddlebags to much longer and deeper than Harley even offers, change of stereo to a much higher quality than HD offers, diff speakers etc etc etc. so all that "special" "limited" or CVO stuff would be a total waste of money.

    If the plan was to customize it, a standard with a blacked out motor would be the way to go. But why would HD offer that, makes too much sense!

      LOL .50 seconds in I literally talk about that and then again at the end of the video. Also, as I’ve said many times also in the description of EVERY video, I don’t work for the dealership so I don’t make a dollar of any bike they sell. Back end profit is almost the same anyway. 🤣

      @@throttleblip9854 another thing worth mentioning, is that the CVO is a good value also of you account for everything it comes with. If you were to take a street glide standard and spent the money on the necessary upgrades to make it CVO-like, you'll end up spending twice as much as you would if you simply bought a CVO. Just food for thought.

    Special isn't worth it, chrome belongs on bikes. You take the standard and chrome out the switches and grips and a couple other things and it's sharp, plus everyone just has matt black painted stuff. Chrome!!!!!

      that the interior of the saddlebags must get very warm or hot.
