      I think I remember another reviewer saying the vignettes you noticed are supposed to be there to make the center of the screen brighter, kind of like how OLEDS can get to higher peak brightness in smaller windows. I think it's a setting you can turn off.

      your comment has gone a long way to convince me to order this monitor... still undecided, though. I may be getting caught up in the details that don't even apply to me...
      The part about it being glossy and being like a huge iPhone screen (I have an iPhone 14 OLED display) and LOVE it.
      I also have an M2 Macbook Air with 13" LED screen and it's pretty close to OLED for me (not talking gaming, just using for desktop related apps). Honestly, I thought this MacBook M2 Air had an OLED. Apple has some nice displays.
      Thanks.
      ** Update ** I got the AW2725DF and experienced immediate and extreme eye strain. I returned it within a week and got the ASUS ROG Swift 27" 240Hz matte WOLED (PG27AQDM) to replace it. The Asus is not quite as nice but it's amazing if it's your first OLED computer monitor and theres no painful eye strain.

    • @josephparry
      @josephparry 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      can you define clear winner? As when is comes to motion clarity the 360 ulmb does actually beat the OLED, assuming you have it set correctly that is (locked fps to refresh rate and strobe rate). But I can easily see a lot of people not understanding how to get the 360 ulmb setup to actually come out on top. Other than motion clarity which is almost tied, it's pretty negligible tbh, the AW looks better in every other way. What are your thoughts?@@ralfman5

      @@josephparrywhat I can say is that I only play fps games, mostly Warzone and some Fortnite and I am getting more kills with the clarity and the smooth motion. Theres really no lag. I had my asus with my Rtx 4090 so I was able to take advantage of the ulmb2 and like I said that monitor is awesome but the AW is on another level. The clarity and motion and even the brightness is excellent.

  • @tylerthere5832
    @tylerthere5832 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    A competitive geared monitor needs to have a better sdr experience, especially in the brightness. I don't understand why they cap the screen to 250 nits... all they needed to do was allow it to peak at 350-400 the smaller windows, like some of the lg variations and it would've been perfect.
    But from my personal experience from the monitor and owning a qd-oled tv, Alienware isn't pushing the bar of this displays capabilities. HDR is also not widely adopted in competitive games, or even always better looking in most cases to.

    • @andrewmorris3479
      @andrewmorris3479 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @tylerthere5832
      @tylerthere5832 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @andrewmorris3479 They don't need too, I'd say its the 20-70 percent windows that need the extra brightness for typical scenes, and the lg ones *can do that, like the asus. I also own a S95B Qd-oled that hits a max of around 400nits, but only 200 nits full screen, but its miles brighter in normal scenes compared to this monitor.

    • @MrDutch1e
      @MrDutch1e 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I run my aw3423dwf at 70% brightness in sdr and it's plenty bright. Have you actually used a qd oled monitor for yourself? I'd agree with you when talking about lg woled from last year that doesn't even hit 200 nits but qd oled is plenty bright.

    • @tylerthere5832
      @tylerthere5832 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MrDutch1e I used the 360hz and returned it. I prefer a display that can pop in sdr and most of the competitive games I play only have sdr. The Alienware just looked flat compared to my last monitor and especially compared to my S95B qd-oled. It's bright enough to USE in most cases, but it just lacks an engaging amount of brightness for the games I play.

    • @MrDutch1e
      @MrDutch1e 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @tylerthere5832 I only play competitive shooters and I went from a 240hz ips to the aw3423dwf and am quite happy with the brightness. Defaults to 70% or 75% and I never changed it off of that. I'm in a dark basement tho. I also have the s95b for comparison and I actually find it quite dim for games. I heard there is an issue with game hdr in recent updates and it needs to be turned off tho. Yet to try it since I rarely use it for games with my ps5.

    Flickering is not only on low gray windowed applications, it is on any low gray picture with VRR enabled. The reason why you see it in windowed desktop applications is because G-sync is applied to them incorrectly which causes refresh rate to go wild. But you will see it with any low grayish scene with VRR if FPS is fluctuating at all. This is a huge issue and those displays should not be advertised as VRR compatible.

    • @Relax-il7zn
      @Relax-il7zn 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I didn't even notice the flickering, but my eyes hurt when I tried to use the VRR. It really shouldn't even be advertised as compatible with how awful it is. Even watching youtube videos my eyes were dying. I thought it was the brightness or glossy screen, but nope, just terrible VRR.

I would personally recommend you the Asus Rog PG248QP for 1080p super competitive, the one in this vid for 1440p QD-OLED: The Alienware AW2725DF, and the ASUS ROG PG32UCDM for 4k 240hz QD-OLED. Probably the one in this vid that's 1440p. I would just not get the Alienware AW3225QF, because the firmware just completely fucks over the appeal of the monitor and motion clarity is better on display in this vid and ofcourse 360hz refresh rate combined with lower response times than the Alienware 4k makes the 1440p 360hz one way better. The biggest point why I would just not recommend the Alienware 4k OLED is just the atrocious firmware in sdr. The firmware really makes the monitor unusable for video editing and gaming

I know most people don't care about the color of their monitor in their setup, but if 85%+ of your products (Alienware) are Lunar Light, and if there's options to get keyboards, mice, etc. in several colors, it's not like nobody thinks about it.

      It's 2k, with a 4090 you can easily reach those numbers on e sport titles, and a much higher frame rate on the likes of CyberPunk, or Alan Wake 2.....and starfield which still baffles me optimization wise. (A 4080, the flagship amd gpu which name escapes me, and even a 4070ti/super will do the trick just fine at 2k but a 4090 to take full advantage.)
      4k is a very different story. Since your effectively chopping a 4k resolution by more than half at 2k aka qhd its great.

Point is, current hardware can't take full advantage of 360hz monitors. On text fringing: Why create a subpixel layout for high end OLED panels that produces text fringing??
    These tech companies have no clue what they’re doing: create a technology that fails on basic functionality such as reading text.

    I find it quite funny how you clowned on matte finishes for so long and were begging for glossy monitors. Now they're here they have their issues and aren't perfect. I genuienly don't mind the matte finish, I don't know why you hate it so much.

    A monitor with poor text clarity means its a Tv with bs marketing, the fact they can't even ship such basic software that comes with it without bugs says it all, definitely an "early access" product...... Except with no hope of a software fix for half of its short comings. Looks like the wait for a real oled monitor that deserves the title is not over yet.

    1:16 sorry what? you do know hdmi is limited to 144hz?? ..this is technology limits not faulty ports....its always been the case that display ports gives a way higher refresh rate.

      @@toohigh5721 how so…the highest possible is 144hz at 4k for hdmi2.1 and 240hz at 1080p… unless the Alienware introduced a mode switching similar to the MSI model i think it was it simply can’t go higher. And there’s no point doing it at 1440p.. definitely benefits of doing it on the 4k version.

      If you have money and don't intend to play competitive games a high % of the time, sure. But 32in and 240hz is significantly worse for competitive shooters. Also, upkeep cost of 4k is far higher, forcing you to upgrade your GPU potentially every gen just to keep up and use your 4k monitor at good enough frames on modern titles.

      @@TheCabIe what are you talking about? A 4080 is capable od 240 hz on warzone, other shooters are easy to run, at the end the most heavy games to run are all story games, like alan wake... for those games you can use frame generation and tou don't need to reach 240 fps... sure it is not cheap to game a 4k, but not because is expensive I am going to say that is dumb or it is better a 1440p 🤷🏻‍♂️
