Ugh, I just love the soundtracks from If… even if they are remasters it feels like the final arrangement for that era of 16bit music before the new generation. Also, idk how intermingling it has with MegaTen games, but I feel like Etrian Odyssey is often left out of the conversation when looking at Altus’ works. A dungeon crawler it it’s purest form and having some very rich music of their own.
something to note with SMT IF, when you were showing off the music the second song is Old Enemy while the third is Boss, while all three play exclusively on PSX's Akira Volume since SFC used the same soundtrack as the original for Akira Volume
Phenomenal video. Just absolutely great, as an older fan of Shin Megami Tensei it really makes me happy whenever anyone brings up the music that truly makes what SMT is. Especially for this video, it brings more recognition to the Devil Summoner series as I feel as if not much people have ever heard or touched the songs for the series. Truly the composers need to absolutely be more appreciated and I’m glad to see this video to do just that. I can’t wait to see more of your content in the future, I look very forward to them.
Great video! Personally I've always considered this era of Atlus music my favorite. I think it might have to do with how simple the songs technically are, but still somehow sound so multifaceted at the same time. Covers of these songs are somehow always good too.
I love this video! I appreciate the use of in-game imagery to help convey the aesthetics of the music. I'm a relatively newer fan of the Megami Tensei/Persona series so getting to learn more about it is really nice. Can't wait to see the next part of this series.
I can't wait till we get to the 2010's and modern era because im completely in love with the style we see now that sounds like a culmination of decades long of game osts. and i would love to see if some composers can be seen outside of smt
oh wait , in smt if... that´s Akira battle theme (as they use the standard SMTII battle with anyone but him in the psx version), boss amd old enemy are reversed in this video; the video is excellent as it´s own.
Appreciate you not making the video all about Meguro. I feel like Atlus REALLY needs to do a Theatrythm style, SMT music game where it isn't just Persona but ALL of their music. I like the original Persona sound over the PSP versions. Sounds less grimey.
In the next video it would be nice to delve deeper on the respective composers, Like maybe just a bit more background besides the tracks they worked on Good video thou
thank you for making this! i've always wanted to learn more about the history of the music, SMT's music as a whole is very iconic to the genre of RPG OSTs in general and deserves more love.
Couldnt agree more, i love the music from the megaten proper games. I started with persona in the 90s, and even then the soundtracks for the persona games were some kind of pop epic techno/ambient. Some of the tracks on the OST of vengeance are better than the game, and it's a good game. Kyuuyaku soundtrack is top notch. Digital devil saga, awful game but impeccable everything else. So many wins. Edit: that cathedral of shadows from majin tensei is one of the best Megaten tracks. The arrangement in IV is fantastic.
Your editing was very clean and succinct, and I thought the video had a good pace. Keep it up man the SMT franchise needs more channels like you. Very happy to hear Devil Summoner's music get some recognition too!
Evolution and Eurythmics Battle themes are backwards. But hey, the message is clear 😎👌. Aoki was an actual magician working on a SFC to produce music at such a quality for the system, truly ahead of its time. Some SMT IF’s dungeon tracks sound the same but with a different pitch and a usually, a new bridge 😊👌
That was interesting. Definitely do another someday. I saw your Krishna video recmnd to me and that was fine, but geez no one bothers to check out your other videos? What the heck!
Tsukasa Masuko eventually became a freelancer and moved on to work on games such as The Caligula Effect, which features a lot of his distinctive sounds from the SMT era. As a fun little fact I myself didn't know until fairly recently, he also worked on a Dragonball game, Dragonball Z Attack of the Saiyans, if memory serves. Though not really an Atlus connoisseur, I would still highly recommend you to contact Dr. Papá de Bulma for further and deeper analysis. He no longer produces videos, as stated by himself, but I'm sure he'd be willing to help you out with this sort thing, as he's himself a composer and arranger and his Dragonball videos are mostly focused on analysing the franchise's music. He's pretty knowledgeable.
I got into Persona when I heard a banger of a soundtrack coming out of my cousin's 3DS the F.O.E. battle theme from Persona Q. Then I saw the colorful cast of characters wearing school uniform/casual clothing in Persona Q and it got my attention. At the time I have finally found a series that is a turn-based RPG game that takes place in a modern setting and none of that fantasy setting games with their overused orchestrated music. I just want to hear modern music from my time and then I found ATLUS' Shin Megami Tensei and Persona games.
super important topic. history hasn't been too kind to VGM composers from the 80s/90s...
How does this not have more views?
who knows? send it to your friends
Cuz a lot people dont know smt/persona?
@@qorrn and i feel most people who know persona only know the 3-5 trilogy they neither know SMT or other Atlus games.
Thank you, algorithm 🙏🏻
This video is incredibly underrated. I always wondered who was behind these tracks, thank you.
I’ve been desperate to learn more after playing the old persona games. The original Persona 1 has such phenomenal music!! Thank you for this

Finally some recognition for the devil summoner soundtrack, for me it's my second favorite atlus game soundtrack next to SMT IV.

Man I love discovering new great SMT channels
Great video!

The music go CRAZY but what’s your favorite SMT song?
That's really tough. Either the Battle for Everyone's Souls from Persona 3 or Battle B2 from SMTIV
@@bluemori2822 you should do a tier list next video of your favorite tracks maybe top 50
What a phenomenal video! Cannot wait for the next part!

really hoping to see the next parts of this series, great video
Great video, subscribed
Waiting for the part II with Ryota Kozuka
What a great video dude!!!
Yo this video was actually really solid! You could’ve told me you had 100k subs and I’d believe it. Keep it up man!
Amazing channel ❤

More MegaTen content! ❤
Awesome video, we needed a video like this. 🎉😎

Great video man
awsom :J only thing is that eurythmic battle and evolution from majin tensei II are swapped in the video.
Hey this is great
Thanks to algorithm found this banger!
A fantastic video, from script to execution. Instasubscribed
This was amazing, thank you for sharing all this gold info
Great job. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Subscribed.
Tsuchiya is a legend just for the If... remixes alone
That was interesting. Definitely do another someday. I saw your Krishna video recmnd to me and that was fine, but geez no one bothers to check out your other videos? What the heck!
Excellent video, love this topic... Keep them coming!
12:53 Still he did remixes and rearrangements like the P5R Kichojoji Theme and etc.

Aoki was such a prodigy, it's such a shame he passed away so young, also at 11:11 you mixed up eurythmic battle and evolution, not that it matter tbf

List of the music used on the vid? Really liked the songs first two songs.
Assuming you mean the intro the first song is moonlight and eyes from devil summoner and the second is world step from groove on fight
Still waiting for an actual musician to do these type of videos.
